A great list of titles. I'm glad you added Oriental Legend 2. It was an absolute crime it wasn't included in the recent IGS Collection because otherwise the line up was great. The Gladiator is definitely a hidden gem that deserves more exposure. Gaia Crusaders Sonic Blastman 2 Batman Returns (snes) Captain Commando Would have been some of my additions but even there there are still loads more great titles.
Shout out to Golden Axe 3, the most underrated beat em up of the 16-bit era. Additionally, Streets of Rage 2 is the greatest video game of all-time. I'm glad it's in the #1 spot.

Yes!! So good to see Guardians aka Denjin Makia 2 in here. Barely anyone talks about this game. Lucky enough to have the arcade PCB as it never got a home release and likely never will.
Fantastic video! But why on Earth are there no titles or graphics in this video!? I had to spend a few minutes trying to figure out and research what you were saying when you were talking about *Paprium*. I couldn't quite understand what you were saying so I kept trying to Google things and I finally stumbled upon it. Kind of frustrating. But great content overall, I loved seeing such a great overview of the best beat em ups! Seeing that it's one of my favorite genres, I was pleased to see a few games I had never heard of.

I'm the freak who actually loved Sword of Sodan on Amiga as a kid! If I had to pick just one I think it'd be DC due to being such a extravagant package.. It was a hellova Christmas present on Vita.. Another thing I'd like to mention the hidden gem Bruce Lee(GBA version) that no one seems to remember
Great video, stellar game list but I think SIFU should've been talked about. Aside from it being an amazing game is t needs to be talked about more. I think right now it has a hidden gem/cult classic type label on it and it's so much better than not only most the games on this list but better than a lot of games in general. It's crazy challenging and fun.

God hand, urban Reign and Madworld are also my top favorites. Both 3D and 2D have amazing beat em ups. When the gameplay is great doesn't matter if it's 2D or 3D.
Look up Astra: Knights of Veda; it's art alone will put it among the top instantly as no other game could live up to it's development cycle. Sadly, is quite underrated being a korean game; it's second season bringing more story chapters next month should be really exciting!

It was very well known & famous for its time; specially due to the 6player cabinet being such a spectacle : but it has aged very poorly and all the Capcom games of the same time are just flat out superior in every way.

No Skinny & Franko!? Strange, because it's the most advanced and innovative beat'em up on the market. There wasn't and probably won't be, another title as advanced, very brutal, and uncompromising. Of course, it has its flaws, but it's the only one that stands out from the competition

I can see why the genre died. Of course there's the classics but in terms of evolving most of these games just look horrible in their choice of art style trying to be different or just an explosion of chaos on screen with a royal rumble of characters or a light show so I'm grateful to be old enough that my introduction to the genre was double dragon final fight streets of rage golden axe and the one that criminally wasn't in the list bad dudes vs dragon ninja
If Turtles in Time for SNES is that far down the list and Streets of Rage 2 is right at the top, with all that suggests, I can't take the list entirely seriously to be honest. Streets of Rage 2 is the best Genesis beat 'em up for sure, and arguably the best 16-bit beat 'em up (I'd put Turtles in Time on SNES right up there in that same category). But if you're including all the best beat 'em ups ever, including all the truly amazing arcade beat 'em ups, your just not seeing things objectively if Streets of Rage 2 is still rated higher than every single one of them. Also, no arcade versions of Final Fight, The Simpsons, King of Dragons, Vendetta, Revenge of Death Adder?
I don’t think SOR2 being considered the all time best beat em up is as controversial as you’re making it out to be. Lots of people agree with me on that. I think it’s as close to perfect as a game can get. So I definitely stand by my placement.

It’s fine if you don’t like it, but it definitely doesn’t suck. It takes all of the best parts of the originals games and refined it. I played through the whole game with two non gamers, and they were able to pick it up pretty quickly. And yeah, how is it woke? 😅
And I hate those visuals too. That kinda clumsy "Flash" art style just does not work for me. It's fugly as **** imo. I think the dude only considers it so highly because it's another Streets of Rage game, which he clearly can't look at fully objectively next to all the other beat 'em ups out there. But I guess that's what opinions are all about.

I do enjoy that game, but after trying it again recently, there are certain things I don’t think hold up well.
