@Rando1975 Yeah, that was great. A few years ago, I played this game with two 13 or 14 year old girls in an arcade and showed them how to kick the enemies in the balls. This became their favorite move.
When I was stationed in Korea back in the early 2000's, I saw that game in every arcade building I came across while I was on a Pump it Up! spree (which was everywhere as well lol).
Violent Storm may be the best beat em up ever, and this is coming from an OG who grew up on double dragon and golden axe. I didn't play violent Storm until mane, and man, does that game need more respect.

Knights of Valor reminded me a lot of Capcom's Warriors of Fate, one of my favorite Beat 'em Ups of all time. I never played the console versions though, AFAIK it was released on PS1 and Saturn back in the day...
Yeah they're both based on the same story, but Warriors of Fate (and Capcom's horse-em-up, Dynasty Wars) is an adaptation of manga version, Tenchi wo Kurau. It has a very distinctive art style.

Vendetta was an obsession of mine as a teen. Also Revenge of Death Adder. That one was right next to Tower of Doom back in 94 in our old local arcade. Was extremely popular at the arcade too. Everyone played the centaur.
Arabian Fight and Golden Axe Revenge of Death Adder both got ported on the Sega Astro City Mini. Warrior Blade will be on Taito Milestones 3 on Nintendo Switch soon.
Night Slashers actually did get a home console release with all the blood and gore included on the Nintendo switch i got it and an HD remake is currently in development
Omg, Boris in Violent Storm looks absolutely ridiculous. That's the sort of design that would be a typical throwaway villain in just about any other beat -'em -up.
I'm suprised that Capcom will release for the first time The Punisher with their upcoming X-men vs Street Fighter collection, I'm looking forward for this. I still have hopes for Cadillacs & Dinosaurs (for me is on of the best Beat 'Em Ups ever because of such fine tuned gameplay). Recently I played with a friend Streets of Rage 4 and we agreed that it holds the crown of beeing the best game in this genre. Good list!
A bunch of these games have made it home over the years, hell many that have you can still buy! Battle Circuit is available on all consoles in the Capcom arcade and beat em up bundles on almost every console. Vendetta is part of the Arcade Archives, Night Slashers is in Johnny Turbos' Arcade on Switch, Battletoads is an Xbox Exclusive with the Rare Replay, Knights of Valor is in the IGS Classic Arcade Collection for Switch. Alien vs Predator, Golden Axe and Arabian fight were released on a mini arcade consoles for home, still available on Amazon. X-men was released to home on the PS3 and 360. So yea, a bunch of these games are not stuck in the arcade anymore.
'Night Slashers' did get A home port for The Switch as part of the 'Johnny Turbo's Arcade' releases. Also, 'Vendetta' did get an 'Arcade Archive' release on Switch.
Knights of Valour also got two numbered and a bunch of sub-titled sequels. Some are hard to emulate (need to use current MAME core) because PGM2 is pretty recent, as far as arcade hardware goes. It's the same system used for another modern Taiwanese beatemup you mentioned, Oriental Legend 2. Good list overall, at 0:50 you can see heavy dithering on shadows, I suggest people to prepend "mdapt" dedithering shader before your setup to fix that. It's built-in in Retroarch, dunno other emus. Unless you have other setup that blends the crosshatch dithering. If modern re-releases don't have dedither it's sad.
Excellent list! I have played all of these thanks to MAME. I was at Bartari in Scranton, PA about a month ago and they have the 6 player X-MEN cab. I forgot how massive it is. I have a theory that a lot of the beat 'em ups that feature licensed characters that are stuck in the arcade is publishing rights issues. A good example is in the 90's Acclaim seemed to be the only company releasing X-Men and Simpsons games, but Konami made arcade games based on the licenses. MS-DOS and Commodore 64 got the Simpsons beat 'em up, but those aren't consoles. What's also interesting is that the fighting game X-Men Children Of The Atom is a Capcom game, but you'll find the Acclaim logo on the Saturn and PS1 box art. Seemed like a rare deal since Capcom usually always published their own games on PS1 and Saturn. Capcom had a ton of releases on both consoles. Seems like more evidence of license issues.
For X-Men and other Marvel properties. it is absolutely liscencing that kept them in the arcades. At the time, Acclaim and LJN had the console rights for all Marvel properties.
Actually, Golden Axe did have a returning character, but he's not obvious. IF you play as Goah, the dwarf on top of him is actually an older Gilius from the Original Golden Axe.
i know im probably older than a lot of other gamers here but i remember a lot of these games and at least 3 from the list i can remember playing on the Super Nintendo back in the day! my friends and i used to love co-op beat em ups because we could both play together and they were pretty fun! from your list i remember playing a copy of aliens vs predator, the spider man video game, hook, and bucky o'hare on the SNES back when i was young! i may have even played that battletoads one after it got ported over like you had mentioned! nice list though! cant believe i missed some of these! knights of valor seems like it woulda been pretty sweet seeing as how i used to love mowing down enemies in the dynasty warriors series too!
Aliens vs Predator on snes is a totally different game, so are the spiderman games on snes, same with hook, Bucky OHare had a nes platformer but it was also different and never came to snes. They are the same properties but not close to the same game
Don't forget that The Gladiator (2003) is not to be confused with the 1986 game by Taito. And these two games have different Japanese names - The 2003 bmup game is "Road of the Sword" in Japan while the 1986 game by Taito is "The Golden Castle" (Ougon no Shiro) in Japan. And Arabian Fight should've been ported to either the Sega 16-bit or the 32X since it's made by Sega...
Yes, the other game always comes up with I research for this game haha. Should’ve included the title road of the sword too. A port of that on 32x would’ve been so cool!
oriental legends, the gladiator and knights of valour are available on the Nintendo Switch under IGS Classic Arcade Collection and it has a physical copy.. Undercover Cop, Knuckle Bash and Shadow Force this are great too that still stuck on the arcade.. I love the list sir keep making videos about beat-em-up games..
Revenge of Death Adder actually did eventually get a home port. It was on that Sega Astrocity Mini Console that came out to celebrate their 60th anniversary. It's a perfect version of the game as well. As of right now it's the only official home version. It's a fantastic little machine if you can get hold of one!
You missed Konami's Gaiapolis, which was a top down 2D beat em uo that had a pretty lengthy story in fact Also missed Konami's Monster Maulers which starts off as a boss rush similar to Metemquister, but then evoles to your stadnard scrolling beat em up Also nissed The Crystal of Kings, which eas an early 2000's beat em up similar to Golden Axe byt had some interesting graphics and a cool metal soundtrack Also left out Dungeon Magic/Lightbringer which eas an isometric arcade beat em up / hack n slash And you left out Shadow Force by Technos (same makers of Double Dragon) as well as The Combatribes And you left out Asterix, also by Konami which is based on the long running french comic Also you left out Capcom's Armored Warriors/Powered Gear which was a mech beat em up You also left out Pretty Sokdier Sailor Moon by Gazelle which came out 1995 and was not the same as the SNES and Sega Genesis Sailor Moon beat em ups Lastly, you left out Michael Jackson's Moonealker by Sega which is totally different from the console game Theres also some 3D beat em ups such as Slashout and Spiiker's Battle, bith by Sega, thought Spikeout woukd have bee listed as well but you can now pkay that on console via the lastest Yakuza game
Check out Dungeon Magic from Taito. It's a fantastic medieval themed beat-em-up with action RPG elements. It reminds me of the Capcom D&D games, but with secrets to find, and isometric level design.
Vendetta is now part of Arcade Archives. Battle Circuit is currently in the Capcom Beat'em Up Bundle. X-Men Arcade was on Xbox Live Arcade, but it's delisted. Night Slashers is currently on Switch. Battletoads Arcade, yes, it's currently on Rare Replay. Personally, I want to see Ninja Baseball Bat Man in the Arcade Archives catalog.
Man I remembered loving those beatem ups as a kids. Especially Ninja Baseball Batman. Though it oddly enough received a PC port yrs ago back in the early 2000's. Though it was called NBBM 2. Despite being called 2 it was just a PC port. The only difference I could recall was that one of the bosses gets a rematch against the player in the final stage, Windy Plane.
@ClassicCo-op it's pretty rare to find. I only knew of it because I was South Korea way back in 2004 or 05. Though if you do find a copy they are probably expensive
Warriors of fate is another one that never really made it to home consoles sadly. I think it's on one of those recent capcom beat em ups collections but yeah, it never made it to home consoles, it was 3 players and was more of a hack and slash like knights of the round by Capcom, u could even cut people in half in that game.
Aliens vs Predator did have an obscure home release. It was part of the "Capcom Home Arcade" console that was essentially a big arcade stick that hooked into your TV. Not a proper release but it exists I guess. This is the number 1 game on your list that needs a wider release.
AvP probably my fav on the list. Ever play Die Hard? It has nothing to do with the movie, and it's 3-D. Played a lot of that in the arcade back in the day.
Aliens Vs Predator is one of my all time faves . I got tired of waiting for a port so got an arcade cabinet. I've had it around 15 years and they still haven't ported it. I know there's licensing issues but they gotta get it out there, people WILL buy it. I was mad the recent "Capcom Beat em up bundle" just had the same games they always have
I think it was in 1994 or 1995 that I saw a game in an arcade where there was a character who looked exactly like Ryu from SF2 but wore sunglasses. Is it possible to locate that game?
Whoa, Warrior's Blade is connected to the Rastan Saga series? I never knew that. The Rastan Saga games were dumb and hard, but also kind of cool. I used to really like the music even though I thought the games were kind of annoying. Warrior's Blade looks amazing, though. Wish the rest of the series was that detailed.
The problem was the hardware on the consoles. There were limitations that were combined with graphics and sound. Even the 64 bit era had challenges like on N64. That is why there were a few anticipated releases and sequels that never carried over from SNES to N64. One example was the Metroid franchise. There was never a Metriod game on N64 despite of popularity on SNES and Game Boy, but picked up production on Game Cube.
Do one for isometric co-op shooters stuck in arcades.. There's this one game I've been looking for where you're these 2 Elvis looking dudes shooting robots and aliens and it was in the arcades, i just don't remember the name of it
Another good one was Arabian Magic, where one of the bosses is a takeoff on Dhalsim from Street Fighter. 😆 Oh, Combatribes and Knights of the Round were good, too, but all of these were ported to home systems, I think.
There was 1 obscure beatem up I played at a fair once. Very heavily demon influenced story and villains with multiple playable characters and 1 is a demon wolf that walks on 4 legs. All of the characters were good but the wolf was my favorite. Can't remember the name and its impossible to find any info on it.
Twice in my adult life I've gone to an arcade hoping to play the X-Men arcade game. The cabinet was out of order the first time. The second arcade didn't have it despite being the biggest arcade in the world at that time.
The Punisher, Final Fight, TMNT, DND Shadows over Mystara, Double Dragon, Armored Warriors, Streets of Rage, etc. There are a ton that easily could qualify as better but yeah there are almost to many to cover as is.
Battle Circuit - on capcom beat em up collection Night Slashers - available on Switch GA2 - yes, it does feature one of the original characters - the dwarf on Goah's back is the dwarf from part 1 Xmen - released on xbla (you did mention that) This is a great list but I think the title was a bit misleading. Some of these games are somewhat lost to time, but others are readily available. A bit more research would have made this video a lot better.
Those are all modern releases. I’m aware of all of those. I even mentioned some of them. But that wasn’t the point of the video. All of the games I talked about were never ported to consoles when back in the day. I can see why I should’ve made that more clear.
There are a few more games that can be mentioned: the Sengoku Series, Shadow Force, D&D Shadow Over Mystara and Tower Of Doom, Mutation Nation, Robo Army, Undercover Cops, 😊
Sengonku, Robo Army, Mutation Nation were released on Neo Geo AES so it would still count as home release Dungeon and Dragons were released on Saturn but in Japan only and then re-released again on the PS3 Network and XBLA.
You mention Battle Circuit not getting the respect it deserves but how could it? I'm pretty sure it was never released for North American arcades. That's a large audience that never got to see this title in an arcade at the time.
A good number of these were developed by taiwanese devs IGS, they never really got any exposure until the games were made available on MAME. Also, Knights of Valor (IGS) being based on Romance of the Three Kingdoms -- Capcom's Warriors of Fate series is also based on the same novel, so it's interesting to see their diff takes on the source material. Plus, Knights of Valor also had multiple versions and sequels and versions-of-sequels.
Getting a ton of comments about games from this list that got modern releases. I am aware of these, but the point of this video was to highlight games that never got home console ports back in the day. Should’ve been more clear about that in the intro.

Also nissed The Crystal of Kings, which eas an early 2000's beat em up similar to Golden Axe byt had some interesting graphics and a cool metal soundtrack
Also left out Dungeon Magic/Lightbringer which eas an isometric arcade beat em up / hack n slash
And you left out Shadow Force by Technos (same makers of Double Dragon) as well as The Combatribes
And you left out Asterix, also by Konami which is based on the long running french comic
Also you left out Capcom's Armored Warriors/Powered Gear which was a mech beat em up
You also left out Pretty Sokdier Sailor Moon by Gazelle which came out 1995 and was not the same as the SNES and Sega Genesis Sailor Moon beat em ups
Lastly, you left out Michael Jackson's Moonealker by Sega which is totally different from the console game
Theres also some 3D beat em ups such as Slashout and Spiiker's Battle, bith by Sega, thought Spikeout woukd have bee listed as well but you can now pkay that on console via the lastest Yakuza game
Haven’t played some of those! I’ll look into it. Thanks for the comment!
Check out Dungeon Magic from Taito. It's a fantastic medieval themed beat-em-up with action RPG elements. It reminds me of the Capcom D&D games, but with secrets to find, and isometric level design.
Metamorphic Force is just a reskinned X-men Arcade, but it's still awesome!
I can see that haha.
Make sense seeing that it used the same game engine as X-men along with mystic warriors.
Final Fight Arcade is one of the best but Streets of Rage 2 is my favorite of all time
Agreed! Streets of rage 2 is the greatest!
One of the best beat em ups I played in my time was Die Hard.
Fun Fact:
Battle Circuit was released for various systems, including PC, in 2018 as part of "Capcom Beat 'Em Up Bundle".
Battle Circuit is one of my favorite beat em ups ever, probably only second to Dragon's Crown (if that even counts). Such a fun game.
The Gladiator, Knights of Valor, and the first Oriental Legend is on the IGS Classic Arcade Collection via Switch.
Didn’t know about that PC port! That’s cool. I’ll check it out.
@ClassicCo-op it's pretty rare to find. I only knew of it because I was South Korea way back in 2004 or 05. Though if you do find a copy they are probably expensive
Ninja Baseball Batman and Oriental Legend 2 look amazing
They’re great!
Warriors of fate is another one that never really made it to home consoles sadly. I think it's on one of those recent capcom beat em ups collections but yeah, it never made it to home consoles, it was 3 players and was more of a hack and slash like knights of the round by Capcom, u could even cut people in half in that game.
I can’t remember if I tried that one or not! Gonna have to look for it!
@@ClassicCo-op Yeah like I said it was a 3 player game, and it was kind of gory, you can google it, to see what it looks like.
Got an excellent Saturn port back in the day 👍
Loved that game! It's also based on Romance of the Three Kingdoms like Warriors of Fate, but changed the character names.
I literally got a Guardians jamma PCB last week. Fantastic game. I’m also after Violent Storm but it’s pretty expensive now.
Love die hard arcade! Played it a bunch on Saturn!
@@ClassicCo-op Ahhh, so it did have a console release. Don't think I knew that.
Aliens Vs Predator is one of my all time faves . I got tired of waiting for a port so got an arcade cabinet. I've had it around 15 years and they still haven't ported it. I know there's licensing issues but they gotta get it out there, people WILL buy it. I was mad the recent "Capcom Beat em up bundle" just had the same games they always have
AvP is such a great beat em up arcade game. I still play it on MAME occasionally.
I think it was in 1994 or 1995 that I saw a game in an arcade where there was a character who looked exactly like Ryu from SF2 but wore sunglasses. Is it possible to locate that game?
3:52 Is that mantis fist Feilin from Fighter's History / Karnov's Revenge ?
Gentleman! What the FUCK do you know about Night Slashers!
Good question.
Who are the characters in the thumbail? What game is it? Looks cyberpunk-ish.
From denjin makai 2!
AvsP, Cadillacs&dinosaurs and Violent storm - 3 best 2d beat'em ups ever
Which retroarch shader are you using while playing these games? Might as well include it in the description.
Really love Dora from golden axe.she have a lot of plus points in my eyes
I really loved Cadillacs and Dinosaurs and Bucky O'Hare
Hi, I'm new to this channel. Is there a video on fighting games?
I might do a video about co-op fighting games in the future!
I remember going hard to emulate Oriental Legend 2 and when I finally played it I was amped up 😂
There's a returning character in that Golden Axe arcade game. The dwarf from the first is riding on the giant's shoulders.
Awesome list, thank goodness for emulation handhelds.
Do one for isometric co-op shooters stuck in arcades..
There's this one game I've been looking for where you're these 2 Elvis looking dudes shooting robots and aliens and it was in the arcades, i just don't remember the name of it
That’s a good idea! I’ll look into some games.
Was it Escape From the Planet of the Robot Monsters?
@@ClassicCo-op YEEEEEEES! THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU💯💯💯
Great, but for me no.1 is Skinny & Franko: FOV. If you haven't played it, then hmm you don't know what a juicy Beat'em up means 😁👍.
Another good one was Arabian Magic, where one of the bosses is a takeoff on Dhalsim from Street Fighter. 😆 Oh, Combatribes and Knights of the Round were good, too, but all of these were ported to home systems, I think.
Haven’t heard of Arabian Magic! I’ll check it out!
@@ClassicCo-opIt's on Taito Legends for the Playstation 2.
Double dragon classic, tenchi wo kurai2, big fight battle in atlantis, udercover cops.. They were good game
I don’t think I know about big fight Atlantis! I’ll check it out.
Twice in my adult life I've gone to an arcade hoping to play the X-Men arcade game. The cabinet was out of order the first time. The second arcade didn't have it despite being the biggest arcade in the world at that time.
you can find an ASH from evil dead version of Night Slashers
Really?! Is it a rom hack? Sounds awesome!
Where's legends of silk road!
Didn’t even know about that one! Looks cool!
Brooooo. Mystical Warriors is the best arcade beat/shoot em up ever. Try it! ❤
I love that game!
The Punisher, Final Fight, TMNT, DND Shadows over Mystara, Double Dragon, Armored Warriors, Streets of Rage, etc. There are a ton that easily could qualify as better but yeah there are almost to many to cover as is.
Alien vs Predator is on the Capcom Home Arcade system. Pretty much the only reason I bought it 😂
Battle Circuit - on capcom beat em up collection
Night Slashers - available on Switch
GA2 - yes, it does feature one of the original characters - the dwarf on Goah's back is the dwarf from part 1
Xmen - released on xbla (you did mention that)
This is a great list but I think the title was a bit misleading.
I'm gonna have to get back into my MAMES...some of these popped up, but I haven't tried them yet.
Another Konami game that probably stayed in arcades was Mystic Warriors. It plays similar to Sunset Riders but with Ninjas.
for me, Battle Circuit is basically Captain Commando 2
Battle circuit is on Capcom arcade stadium it's shert next to snks sengoku 3
Is that why the gas leak hasnt been repaired at the apartment?
Im sure to mention the wooden paneling aince it is the best feature….
For sure! Wish I could find it in an arcade to play through it!
Golden Axe was also my favorite. But its the same game for every single one
Warriors of fate and armored wars, from capcom, i think were arcade exclusives too
Oriental Legends 2 makers were clearly D&D fans, at least in arcades. ;)
10:50 Bruh, Gillius Thunderhead is riding the giant dude. He's the OG dwarf of Golden Axe.
You forget to mention "Armoured Warriors" from Capcom and also "Shadow Force" from Technos.
How did you forget Rastan Saga 3?
