Oh. This is about child abuse. It was the fantasy. That the pain would just go away. That you would have somewhere to run to, someone to run to. You feel trapped and helpless. I know firsthand. And even to using music as a therapy, and your parents telling you it's the devil's music, or to stop listening to that noise. (That's what's in the box.) This one hits deep, man.

Dad used the smash the fuck out of me for any reason, he claims he did it to discipline me. When I was 15 I fought back by holding him, I had started to get a little stronger than him at that point. Still traumatising for me, I'm 35 now and my dad has stopped talking to me in the last year because I didn't meet his expectations

@@jehanariyaratnam2874 I hear you, man. For me, my dad had about 24 inch biceps, so he was a force of nature. You just took cover. I admire that you fought back. And the belt....yeah. That happened to me. Took years to talk about it without pain. I didn't speak to my dad for years, as well. We reconnected when he stopped drinking. But it wasn't easy to try to forgive. I've got a few years on you. It's a hard slog to get through all the rage in your head. But it's better when you do. We're survivors, man.

Korn is what got me through my teenage years man. Follow the Leader, Issues, KoRn, and Life is Peachy albums are 4 of my favorite albums of all time. I listened to KoRn literally anytime I wasn't in school. Didn't matter if i was riding around or sitting at home. One of their first 4 albums was playing. There's some really good tracks on their first self titled album. I actually got to meet the entire band in 2015 during their 25 year anniversary tour of their self titled album. They were all pretty down to earth people. Especially Monkey and Jonathan Davis. Plus got to see them play a live acoustic version of Alone I Break just me my wife and 48 other people that got VIP passes to the show. Was one of the best live shows I've ever been to. They played their first album from start to finish plus got to see Jonathan Davis perform Daddy live for the first time in 25 years. One of those shows that I'll remember forever.

Issues saved my life repeatedly. The way I felt, the trauma i was dealing with, was all put down like it was written about me in track 16 "Dirty"
and having my thoughts and feelings expressed by my favorite band was immensely helpful to me pushing on.

I love this video so much, every child with a red light in their room is another abuse victim or former victim, and they hear the child crying and they all sneak out to get them out of there! Korn is the music in her box that she hides and what gives her the strength to get out.

@@angelabordack I found music like that in the last few years from Tom MacDonald (not his political stuff, even tho I like that stuff from him too), Falling In Reverse, Jelly Roll, Phix, Problematic, Madchild, Ekoh, Lo Spirit, Ren - mostly independent artists. Although FFDP, Avenged Sevenfold, Shinedown, Sixx AM, Three Days Grace, Breaking Benjamin, Court Taylor (alone, with Slipknot, or with Stone Sour), Halestorm.... And Tool, Disturbed and Korn are still touring! I took my niece a couple of years ago to see Korn and Avenged Sevenfold headline Warped Tour and we went and saw Disturbed for their 25th year touring (funny cuz I saw them their 1st year touring, 6 times total in 25 years) while they were headlining a tour with Three Days Grace and Breaking Benjamin! Even tho we are almost 18 years apart music has always been a bond for us and I raised her for most of her life because she was abused at the age of 2 and was not protected by her biological parent so I made my mom get guardianship and even tho I was only 19 at the time, she gave me a reason to straighten out my life so I could be there for her. Unfortunately, when she was almost 10 years old I lost someone that I was in love with very tragically and relapsed into addiction for 4 years and ended up going to prison for another 3.... But she became my reason to get myself better and to be a better person and she got pregnant while I was in jail (at age 14) so when I got out I helped her with her son for a few years and now she has given me a total of 3 more reasons besides herself to keep my addiction in check and be better! We communicate with music. I dedicated Hoobastank "Reason" to her.... And I have "You are my sunshine" tattooed on my back and she has "My Only Sunshine" on hers because that was the song I sang to her to calm her down after the abuse. Now her 11 year old son listens to Disturbed too and we are going to try to take him with us to a show in the next couple of months! Music has a way of connecting people, expressing what I can't express myself and a way of bringing (my family at least) close together and being something we can share no matter where we are in the world!

@@MegsD79 Check out Ren and Chinchilla. Rancid never missed! EZ Mil too, though it’s rap/r&b. Scary Kids Scaring Kids and Coheed and Cambria. Nine Inch Nails and Tool got me through childhood. I have a ton of bands to recommend to you!!

    • @MegsD79
      @MegsD79 11 месяцев назад

@@angelabordack I am a huge Ren fan, like EZ Mil, I like pretty much everyone you mentioned. Tool is my all time favorite (seen them 6 times in concert as well. Tool, Korn, Disturbed - I've seen all 3 bands in concert 6 times each) I've just been gravitating to independent artists more in the past couple of years because I love an underdog and if their music makes me feel something then I would rather support the artist then the label and the artist gets nothing from it.
In the beginning of 2020 Tom MacDonald's music (Sober specifically) and Problematic's music (Angel Vs Demon 1 thru 4) spoke to me and by Dec 2020 when I was homeless and fell back into Addiction, their music was the only thing that gave me hope of pulling myself back out (became homeless because of COVID, took until June 2021 to find a place to live and had to move 100 miles away from my family and friends without a license) and the past year Ren, FIR, Tom, Ekoh, Phix.... They have all been putting out music that helps me when I start to fall back into the same old thinking that says using is the only way to cope.... Church, Fighter, Sober, Don't Look Down.... Those songs keep me in the right head space.... I do listen to the other stuff as well but it's just those artists seem to be the stage I'm in, I guess. If that makes sense. But I'm always open to suggestions!! ❤️

KoRn is my band and hits my soul and they still can do that for me. But I had never heard music before. Like a song or the radio.....nope nothing like that. I read Goosebumps and Animorphs, and played with K'nex by myself all the time. A Lonely life.
But when we moved and I made a friend, he showed me 2 albums, Nirvana Nevermind and Korn Issues.

I totally agree about albums as a concept- now days I would prefer to have a concept album- sleep token- concept trilogy albums- and it’s epic to listen as a playlist of all three albums and it all just flows - I live listening to albums from 1996-2010ish that’s my middle school- college era and ut was albums all the way!
But nowadays it’s not a huge concept to make a concept album where even every song flows - I do like how falling In reverse does it now- dropping the epic singles is what he leans towards right now and I get it- and his seems to follow a pattern of three and still slow- a have seen a few others drop a few singles together and make it more like a trilogy small project and put a lot of work and focus into those releases verses long albums that can take longer to build.

I HIGHLY RECOMMEND "Tom Traubert's Blues (4 Sheets to the Wind in Copenhagen)" by Tom Waits (Also known as "Waltzing Matilda"). His voice is so unique that one critic once described it as though "it was soaked in a vat of bourbon, left hanging in the smokehouse for a few months and then taken outside & run over with a car"! He's a well-regarded & respected songwriter from within the "Rock" genre from the 70's & 80's. I'd LOVE to hear your take on his signature song. Link Here: ruclips.net/video/hW2vyytxCGM/видео.html

If you want to hear a ridiculously good concept album check out Queensryche’s album “Operation Mindcrime”. It was released in 1988 and was written from the perspective of a drug addicted hit man for an organized crime group that’s got their hands in politics and religion. He falls for a “nun” in the order and wants to get out. It’s different from anything you’ve heard, but it’s loaded with great writing and awesome musicianship.

Also Eminem showed up in the Korn video “got the life” in a blink and you’ll miss him role when he was still trying to get his demo in the right hands when he was trying to get signed

Fred Durst helped direct this. Anyways. i watched ur weird al reactions, and now i know youre listening/watching one of the best eras of music/videos. Everything after 2005ish, was garbage. MAN you suprised me with weird al, but even more so diving into late 90's. Getting my parents to buy my Korn, limp bizkit, and blink 182 albums on CD was a hard sell, LOL. Listen to the cranberries, Dream.

Child abuse is not cool, but if my kid starts blasting Korn in the middle of a work night....it's not going well.
