⁴ᴷ⁶⁰ R32s Operating on the J and Z Lines

  • Due to a recently-identified issue with the new Bombardier-built R179 cars, the entire fleet of R179s has again been pulled from service. This smart and prudent action taken by MTA NYCT will ensure that these cars go through the required checks to make sure that they are safe and reliable. In the interim, several trains of R32s were reactivated for use on the J line. These cars will fill in for the R179s while they undergo engineering inspections. Enjoy!

The R32s out of all the trains that have retired are the bestest old reliable trains that MTA has, it might be old but it's still a good use to have them in the MTA.

    • @TheRailLeaguer
      @TheRailLeaguer 4 года назад +3

Actually, it is the R62As that are the more reliable of them all, and maybe the R68s. The R32s are not that reliable and should be used more for movie trains, work service, or a few fan trips.

@@TheRailLeaguer well either way their way better than any other train that's in the MTA but 56 years for the R32s is a good run for them besides they were there when the R179s broke down but first the R42s replaced them then the R32s but with all due respect, the R42s and R32s are forever legends retired or not retired their still great.

thebuglonerer 034 The R160s, R188s are also better trains than most of the fleet. They’re legends too despite being a young age. The performance of those cars pretty much swayed the awarding of the R211s in Kawasaki’s favor, something other cars couldn’t do.
Though in order of how better these trains are: the R160 and R188s tie for first place, followed by the R32, with the R42s dead last (don’t forget that the R42s were often taken out of service in later years).

They’re literally the second worst performing cars in the entire fleet, the definite worst is the now-retired R42s. Plus there are definitely a few movie producers that can splurge on these cars as well (movie producers deserve the R32s more than riding passengers).

Plus it really is the R32s that are the second worst. The R32 mean fail rates have always stabilized at 30,000 miles before going into yard, while the R179 fleet has averaged 150,000 miles before failure (I am not making these numbers up). So yes, I’m correct.

Not really, though this was all on the manufacturing defect that wasn’t discovered until later.
In addition, the R179 problems are nothing compared to what happened year ago. Back in the 70s and 80s, most of the subway cars in the system were riddled with problems, like traction motors falling out of their mounts, exploding controllers, etc. heck some cars were so shot to a point that they can’t even complete entire runs. In addition, there were also several incidents of cars uncoupling mid route over the years and it definitely wasn’t limited to one car type. Those incidents make the R179 incidents look like nothing.
All in all, the R179s are more reliable than the junk that existed back then (including the R32s)

Rather, service on the C is being made by 144 of the somewhat more reliable R46 cars, a move that actually should be permanent this time around (the R179s would be moved to East New York Yard). 38 R32s are on reserve for some reason.

The R179s are not that dangerous. In fact, they’re arguably one of the more reliable cars in the fleet (though the R160 and R188 cars are the more reliable trains on the fleet). The mean fail rate of the cars is in the middle (150,000 miles before going in the shop), and the latest incidents do not affect that number.
Word is that the R179s will re-enter service sometime next month or in September, whether you like it or not. The R32s will be converted to a reserve fleet, movie trains, and/or work trains to replace the existing fleet.

Christian Walker Some of the R42s, which were constantly taken out of service due to issues, have been converted to work train service.

That’s what I’m hearing as well. Most likely as well. I’ll keep looking on the forums to see if there’s any updates.

JeremiahC99 If I hated the ott's then of course I would but I'm the opposite so hell no I ain't happy about that and what's worst is that the museum doesn't preserve 10 or 8 cars sets, they only have about 2. but the good thing is atleast their is a whole phase 2 set of R32's there but it's hidden from the public

Jake Wilders Theres about 22 cars used for work train service and the museum has a variety of old trains, so it’s not the end of the world. Just because these old cars are retiring isn’t really the end of the world.

Meme Lord If he actually stayed home this whole time then a lot of people wouldn't of been aware of the blessings that are currently happening on the J and Z lines.

@@ROTE The R32 trains are definitely different than the Redbirds but they do have the same design as the R33WF and R36WF.

@Renz-O The R32 trains are related to the Redbirds R33WF and R36WF.
