Walgreens Closing 5 San Francisco Stores Citing Chronic Robberies

- Five Walgreens stores in San Francisco are closing their doors for good. Betty Yu reports the closures come amid an epidemic of retail robberies and asked city leaders what they are doing to help.

In 2019 I used to work at a Walgreens doing security in Atlanta Georgia, and I was fired for holding someone in the store from shoplifting and they press charges on me now I have my first battery charge for protecting their goods and I was banned from Walgreens. Seems like Karma came for Christmas.
...😅Sorry I had to get that out.🤭😏
Yeah like what was the point of the security guard in this video? He was just watching the whole time and asking them to leave like that’s gonna do it.
Sounds like an easy job. When you see trouble, just sit in the back room and do nothing, the way the company likes it. Get paid to do nothing, since you'll be punished if you do anything.

On October 24, 2017, the Company’s Board of Directors approved a plan to implement a program (the “Store Optimization Program”) to optimize store locations through the planned closure of approximately 600 stores and related assets within the Company’s Retail Pharmacy USA segment upon completion of the acquisition of certain stores and related assets from Rite Aid. The Company continues to expect to close approximately 750 stores and related assets, of which substantially all have been closed as part of this program. The actions under the Store Optimization Program commenced in March 2018 and are substantially completed with remaining activities expected to complete by end of fiscal 2020. The Store Optimization Program is expected to result in cost savings of approximately $350 million per year to be fully delivered by the end of fiscal 2020.

I’m go to 3 different Walgreens…. I spend at least 30 dollars every day!!
How the hell does the mayor say their sales are lagging. Every time I’m in there, it’s always busy!
It's simple. People who shoplift need to be taken into custody and charged criminally. If a municipality decides not to do that, then they aren't going to have any stores.
Sad to see that criminals are favored by laws here...
Here, on Wall Street, in DC….man, crime pays…the only difference is, how much.
It should be legal to hunt and kill criminals like the beasts they are. Humans don't do the animalistic things they do. Humans talk, animals resort to violence. We humans put them to Long Sleep.
Criminals are democrats
In LA, the homeless spots are run by the gangs. The gangs make the homeless pay to prop up a tent. They are forcing children out of playgrounds but the elected officials do nothing because their friends run the homeless programs. It's a cycle.

Well done Wallgreens. The citizens of San Francisco do not want Wallgreens. If they did they would pressure politicians to take action.
As a corporate walgreens associate I can tell you with absolute honesty they do not care what happens inside the local chains
"They're just getting necessities" - Uh, Walgreens isn't the Welfare Office. How would you like these people stealing from you out of necessity? Oh well lady, you're going to get what you deserve. Detroit has few businesses in it because of crime, SF will become the same. And when you have to drive 20 miles to get YOUR necessities, remember it's what you asked for.
Send them to Jimmy Kimmel's house and also Lebrom James and George Clooney HA HA!
@Google sucks nah he's not a billionaire at the moment.
@Google sucks have you heard Lebrun talk about politics? He sounds more brain dead than Biden 😂
Biggest business in Detroit is a fucking pawn shop the size of a super Walmart. Ain’t that some typical shit
Rich people do not shop at Walgreens. All their stuff is delivered.
Asking city 'leaders' what they can do to help is pretty damn hilarious considering that THEY are the ones to blame by making it 'legal' to steal up to $900 of merch without fear of arrest.
I can’t imagine how they came up with that number. Does security go through their bags and add it all up and go nope it’s only 850 worth of goods here. Have a nice day they.
I thought it was $999?

Walgreens in their shareholder meeting 2 years (August 2019) said they were closing 200+ stores in an attempt to reconcile profits and remain competitive. CVS also stated store closings back in November, around 900+ stores to be closed.
Why? To please shareholder and to remove a chunk of operating costs. This is of course done to please shareholders, the ongoing petty theft is a drop in the bucket.
Yes, if the information you've presented is true, they're using this to slander San Fran philosophy.
And now community leaders will complain about food deserts and pharmacy deserts.
The lady at the end tells you the mentality of SF. You cannot steal stuff from a business or the business closes.
Oh well. That's SF fault & SF PD
That lady is your average California voter. She probably voted against the recall I won’t be surprised.
She thinks career criminals are true victims of unjust society therefore deserves to get free rein when it comes to stealing all "necessities".
I does not matter what he or she is stealing, the person is a completing a criminal act and should be dealt by the correct authorities accordingly.
I agree
The problem with san fransicko is they've made theft legal, want to run a legitimate business, go somewhere that has accountability
And yet shoplifting is pennies compared to not paying minimum wage and not paying for overtime, which walgreens has been repeatedly caught doing. And yet for that theft no one is ever held accountable, no one goes to jail
Not accordingly. Dragged into the street and beaten with a baton to near death. Continue this until people realize there are real consequences for being a freeloading parasite. Get a job and go to work. Problem solved.
@@ststst981 - If you have proof of that, real proof, go to the authorities. Or go to the media. But you won't, because you have no proof.
So station a cop there. It’s their job to do that. We pay taxes so that there can be cops posted on-foot in front of the store. OR OR OR OR OR OR OR block off the entire stock of the store by having a kiosk where customers can order their needs, and four employees could go get the products that are blocked off by an entire front wall. Customers can read the magazines that are posted on racks, there are chairs where they can sit and rest, there’s a restroom right there (which will be a first for Walgreens, to have a public restroom), and the pharmacy can be as open-access as it already is, if theft isn’t happening there. People kinda gotta go into private areas to discuss medical stuff if necessary.
They need to require shoppers to leave a credit card and ID at the door before they can go in. They can charge your card (or you can pay cash) when you leave to get your ID and card back. This is a shame that this is happening, but desperate people will do desperate things to get what they need.
this is where we are heading. have a valid id to get into the store. your id is returned when you exit.
Who'd have thought that by legalizing thievery, a store MIGHT run into the possibility of having to shut down due to... theft? I mean honestly, who could have ever seen that coming??!!

Probably save a lot of money that way
@@isam9909 thats why they are closing the stores. In 2019 they announced the closing of 200 stores. They also had a 4.5 million dollar lawsuit filed against them for wage THEFT. They were not paying employees over time, making them work of the clock, not paying for sick pay the employees had earned etc. This is just a way to spin the narrative and garner sympathy in the public eye and because the right hates poor people and loves to protect wealthy corporations (unless they say something that the right deems "too liberal" then all of the sudden corporations are "the evil elites") it seems to be working. I say its karma. Steal 4.5 million from your employees and now people steal from you. Not to mention how Walgreens stamped out independently owned pharmacies across the nation but who cares about those people right?
