I wasn't ready for that! I get it! I grew burgundy okra in fabric lined laundry baskets they grew to be 4.5 feet tall! I think the air pruning method worked. I am impressed to see the smaller plant producing so much already...fascinating! 😃
Girrrrl, you crack me up! You and and Mr H sure do a great job in growing your vegetables and canning them. Such a joy to watch your video. I saw a lady’s video last night who had a 42 cup capacity bowl she used for canning. I wondered if you had one to help with your canning. It seemed the perfect size for cutting up tons of vegetables. Do you have one that size? If not, I would like to send you one, if you would like it. Just let me know and tell me what address you want it sent to, and I’ll send you one. Take care. ❤️❤️❤️

That is too funny! I have always grown Clemson Spineless, too but this year I am planting the Jambalaya okra. I wanted to try it because of how prolific they said it was. After seeing your video, now I am definitely planting it. I will still grow some Clemson, too but I want to see how this new (to us) variety does. We have not planted okra or squash yet as we are in northern Oklahoma and have still had a few upper 30 degree nights recently. Soon though.

I been on the Mississippi Coast for 33 years but from South Carolina for the first 30 years. I really enjoy y'alls channel. I watch every morning while drinking my coffee. Y'all are my morning shows, yes yes y'all! I love it!
I just ordered me a pack of seeds from the park seed company. It takes about a week to be delivered here in queens. I 'll let you know how this turns out. I started my vegetables seeds inside under grow lights. The last 2 week I've been putting the plants in pot , because here there are trees on everybody yard and the roots grows all over. This is my first time really gardening, my daughter said I should be proud of myself because what we see in pot now started from packs of seeds. Today my son helped, he set the pots in the spots that wanted them in. My garden isn't that large but it's large enough so that I have planted tomatoes, collards, kale, squash ,corn, herbs and growing on treillis, watermelons and on smaller treillis going to be growing sweet potatoes. I was outside all morning, came in to rest, put youtube on and saw you talking about your okras plants. I have okra plant but, I got right on the keys and ordered those okra seeds. Thank ;you for the information and have a great day. there
I’ve had gardens for over 50 years (wow, I’m getting old) and learn something new from each of your videos. Even the grandkids eat my wife’s fried okra. God Bless. Happy harvests.
Thank you for your videos. I have been around gardens my whole life, but this is the first year I have attempted my own. Your videos are really informative and I am learning a lot.
It looks like the Clemson spineless produces a lot of foliage and takes up much more space. The Jambalaya looks more like what I remember as a child in Mom's garden in Barbados. We have a dish called Cou Cou made with cornmeal and chopped boiled okra. The okra and the water it is boiled in, is used to cook the cornmeal by stirring it in with a "Cou Cou stick" which looks like a wooden straight spatula or spoon. Similar to Polenta. Cou Cou and Flying Fish is one of the national dishes of Barbados. Also served with beef stew and steamed fish.
Dear Mrs Homestead Heart, you really cracked me up when you called the beetle a "bastard" ! Lol! Last time I grew okra here in missouri it got 6 ft tall and the deer here ate every leaf off. It made my okra look like a row of spears with a ring of feathers at the top where the leaves were. My neighbors thought it was hilarious to watch me pick it with a step ladder. You might take the advice tha says to trim it and make more bushy. I really love your videos. Some how in the space of afew generations too much knowledge of the old ways has been lost. Thanks for trying to bring it back.
i know you are going to think i am crazy but years ago when i grew okra , i took care of this elderly lady and i told her my okra bushes were growing but were not putting out anything, what she told me made me think she was crazy, but i obeyed because she always had the most beautiful crops. she told me to get a switch and go up and down each row and while i was whooping the bushes to tell the okra plants to behave and grow! Yup i was willing to try anything! The next morning i went to hang out clothes and i looked over at the rows of okra and it was so many blossoms on the bushes that i ran back in the house! Lo and behold a few days later we were cutting okra by the bucket full
Hey, we do the same thing to our citrus trees when they don't catch bloom. We were taught that by grandpa, but a Master Gardner told us whipping the trunks puts stress on the plants and when stressed they reproduce. Our elders were pretty smart.
Keep a plant/seed/garden journal, what you like or don't like. What grows well, what doesn't, etc., so you'll have year to year reference. Not too much of an okra fan, but recently found organic okra pod chips snacks at Trader Joe's, wow! Delicious. So home made would taste 100 better.
