    I grew up on okra and tomato stew over rice. Later I discovered fried okra, which I crave from time to time. What really got me growing my own okra was making hot pickled okra... and I fry some, too. It's the bomb!

    I was taught at a young age to let cowhorn picked okra rest for 2 days and only use egg and cornmeal to fry em up in coconut oil. It’s so good and you can let them grow longer before picking them.

      I'd strongly suggest hitting up your local Latino supermarket for some nice white corn 'harina de maiz'. It's the best thing for breading and frying okra. Add a little flour, some buttermilk and an egg, season it how you want...I just dip them whole when they're young and fry them up.

    • @tarabooartarmy3654
      @tarabooartarmy3654 Год назад

      @@MrBendylaw we use regular cornmeal and don’t use anything else. If you shake okra and cornmeal in a bag and leave it for a few minutes, the mucilaginous quality that makes okra slimy binds the cornmeal to the okra with no need for other ingredients. But I cook mine sliced rather than whole because that’s how my family prefers it because it gets really crispy that way and removes the sliminess. 😊
