Actually when a dog lays on a person like that, or even leans on them, he is claiming superiority. This game he is playing is not a good one. Even with a golden retriever. Or Labrador. I'd like to see him try that with a Pitbulls, the outcome would be completely different! One has to know how a canine thinks.

Goldens are all sluts, lol. I had one try to adopt me the other day because I pet him for 30 seconds. I tried to walk away and after walking with me about 10 feet he literally wrapped his paws around my leg and held onto me! A golden never neglects an opportunity for MORE love =) Great dogs.

When I was thinking about adopting a dog from a shelter, my then girlfriend was not into dogs or pretty much any pet. Fast forward three years and my current girlfriend (who I met at the dog park) are now very happy with or two dogs. Dogs (and pets in general) bring so much joy to a person’s life.

I get it, I was broken up with my old boyfriend and we started talking again, I moved and adopted a cat I love sooo much. When I let boyfriend over he saw my cat in the bed and questioned that I let him sleep there, I said yes, every night he sleeps in the bed with me.. he didn’t like it, I’m sure you can guess who I chose, and never one regret 😊
Should have run when the first girlfriend didn't like furbabies (unless she was allergic). ; )
Lesson #1 in life: keep away from people who do not like dogs.

Although let me add, if somebody doesn't want to sleep with an animal on the bed that's okay.
Like me for example. I have several cats that I rescued. But I just simply can't get any actual sleep if they're in the bed with me.
Every time they get near my face my nose gets itchy and I'm waking up easily, etc.
So you always need to think about nuance and figure out where somebody's coming from and why

My golden Toby is so friendly that last year he made really really good friends with a burglar. My little dude spent a good 5 minutes getting a belly rub before giving a tour of the house to the burglar who proceeded to rob the living daylights out of me.
Sounds like they did everything right. Introduce the girlfriend early, get her to give treats and food, etc, and continue to give plenty of hugs and attention to the dog when the newcomer is around. A+ effort all round.

That is so cute! Golden Retrievers and Labs are both love-bird dogs. They are so people friendly that if you don't give them the attention they want, and if you have one, shame on you, you don't deserve the creature. Obviously this couple gives them tons of love and time.
This is part of why I feel hesitant to adopt one, I'm worried I wouldn't be able to give them enough and still have my own stuff to do too (like a job)

it's true, they are very needy. I used to go to the bathroom and my friend's lab who I babysat would come in with me. I never could go ANYWHERE without his big lug head in my face, such a sweetheart. My own dog is less needy and more like me -- she goes under the bed into her own clubhouse, has her own private time, doesn't need to follow everywhere. Such different and amazing personalities!
I adopted a cat and she's needy too, so was my previous cat. It's nice to feel so loved but yes this one wants ALL the attention ALL the time. I think when it comes down to it, living beings are most important and the ones who are so loving and don't have much other than you should be a priority. When she's feeling extra needy I try to give her extra attention if I can.

This is the cutest video, ever. Especially, when Ella and Kobe are sitting at the table wearing those hats. Kobe has the greatest human dad and mom. Goldies have an adorable way of wanting to be so close to you, without actually getting your skin and that's what I love about them.

I went through a very similar experience with my black lab mix and my girlfriend (now wife) 20 years ago when she came to my house for the first time She was not a fan of big dogs (he was 92 pounds) so I was nervous. After about 10 minutes they both forgot I was even there. He sat between us on the couch and laid his head on her lap for the whole movie.
I love the way that golden retrievers express their emotions. They are so good at being dramatic.

Reminds me of the bond and relationship I had with my recently passed away Boxer. We did everything together and he followed me around like my 2nd shadow, but I was just as obsessed with him and constantly gave him love like he did me every time he saw me. My mother used to say he was a lil nuts for me and a "fruitloop" but she would laugh because he would just keep licking my face and head forever with his lil stubby wiggling so fast you'd think it was going to detach from the rest of his body. I've been through ALOT in life, probably could even write a book about it but tbh losing my best friend and buddy has been the #1 hardest thing I've ever had to deal with, worse then Basic Combat Training at Fort Sill OK, worse than finally getting sober and just as bad as getting off Opiates as well... Just a huge empty spot in my heart now.
Hang in there, Diesel. You will find another dog-partner to love, promise. And instead of an empty spot, the truth is your heart has gotten BIGGER because of your wonderful relationship with your pooch. Go forth to the dog shelter with a full, big heart and find your new best friend. Because he'd want you to. Peace.
