If this was one of those modern car build shows, they'd just slap in a new Currie axle with prefabbed brackets and crap onto a shiny powdercoated chassis. Not with Brent, he's a true old skool hot rodder who makes do with what he has, and THAT is why it's so much more interesting!
Quite an education watching the build. I did a few engine swaps on 55-57 Chevys with 60's 283's or 327's but I never did a build like this. Everything from scratch with used parts, augmented with new wear parts. It is far more complicated. I am impressed. Every time I think it's getting close to done there are a hundred other things to do. My hat's off to you Brent. Thanks for taking us along. I love it ! Great music, particularly the Latin portion early on. Hi to Pablo and Buddy (he must have been in the house haha). 👍😎🍺
Man, in High School, we swapping a 283 in a '57 Bel-Air for a 327 AND pulled the auto for a muncit 4speed, w/overdrive. I said "we".....but I mostly carried tools and lifted the heavy stuff. All we had was 4 Jack stands, two hydraulic floor jacks and bunches and bunches of 2x4, 2x6, etc. ....and by the way, we painted it too.....although we did go to Tijuana to get the diamond tufted interior done .....got times those.....52 years ago!
yeah when he was younger I would blow my self off before going into the house and I would blow him off. So now he associates blowing stuff off with going in the house and waiting to get the same treatment.
Brent what you have taught me is how MUCH WORK goes in to building restoring and repairing a vehicle. When I was much younger in the 60’s and 70’s it did not seem like that much work. Then the vehicles were much simpler and bondo replaced steel and parts were readily available and cheap. You have my admiration and respect in all you talents. Thank you for these video series and MUSIC👍👍From the LOU STL 314
Getting serious now. Painting brake parts. Love your style of fabricating everything, the time you've invested onto the built definitely showing thru. One of the best builds currently on You Tube
The truck is coming along Minty ! I always feel like I`ve learned something, after watching your videos. Thank You for sharing your video, and letting us hang out. Later ...

Good to see the update! After a recent loss Iti s good to see a safe comfortable show! Hi Pablo, he looked SO excited about supper! MAN you do 100% of the work yourself! It is "SUPER FANCY" for you! A damn showcar! Good job Brent!
This is such a fun build to watch develop! I enjoy your narration and the music - Kudos to a job well done. i can't wait to see how it looks when you are done with it.
Looking good Brent, this truck should last a lifetime with painting the frame and all. It should be really quick as light as it is. Pablo's got your number now, he coming up and sitting watching you and waiting to see if you notice him and give him some rubs, its been working. Another great video.
Very good strength in all your fabricating. Well thought out Ideas and great technique. Looking for a rear bumper to protect that fuel cell. Always enjoy watching.
I love the way everything seems to just fall into place for you. Got to be good planning when you’re trying to get to sleep at night. Thanks for sharing, Friend. 👊👍
In the Navy, we were constantly fighting rust and the needle gun was the weapon of choice. It worked well, but it was very loud in confined spaces and it did a number on your hands!
Gotta love these winter projects. Goes into shop old n clanky and comes out way better clanky lol jkjk looks awesome. I love how you use most shit you already have. True rat rod fashion.
Pablo sure loves ❤ his Daddy time!! The build continues to make headway, love the simple ,subtle changes you make. I see about 1 month till you finish enough for a road trip!!! Brent keep up the great work, jim
it,s amazing how therapeutic watching someone else paint a chassis is ,,,nice work brent ,another couple of weeks and you will be driving out the shop at this rate👍
Paint does hide a lot of evil, the chasse & diff are looking good! The must not salt the road in your area like they do in mine, we do a lot of searching to find bits and pieces that are not all rusted out. I get reminded by all my bow tie friends when I run into trouble on my Fords, I thought about that when you were doing brakes.
Love the "inverted rattle can" technique! When I'm the ultimate cheapskate, I will carefully score the the side of the can with a a file and puncture the score carefully with a razor blade to evacuate the propellant. Then I will cut open the can and pour what's left in a spray gun. Disclaimer: Don't try this at home kids, I've more than once been covered in "freckles"! 😆
Almost every car or motorcycle guy at the place I work takes the old rental beds we have when they get old and use them, otherwise they get taken by the metal recycling guys
Dont mind Pablo, i think hes sick of winter too… That chassis paint, guy said you have to live it off. For pinion angle i like to jack up until driveshaft is level, then angle pinion down 2 degrees.easy on a drive on hoist.
It is great seeing a project develop, both in your mind and on the floor. And your(old?) dog is such a softy, just dont let him sit on you, you might not survive! Gentle giant.
Great what a wee coat of paint does, chassis looks the business now, back brakes looked a real bugger to do, but as usual you prevailed, well done see you on the next one.
You should run the driver side e-brake cable across the rear axle and run both of them up the passenger side. Then they should line up almost even to go into one cable. That way way it won't run on the driveshaft or hang down under the truck. Keep up the great work you're doing and God Bless you and your family.
Pablo just eating up that attention... Loving you built an how you make it all come together. I think you need an little more frame around the back of the gas tank...
I use hammerite direct on rust paint which i imagine is the same thing as that stuff you have. I wouldn't say it NEEDS the rust as such, its just that it has zinc in its paint which works to suppress the rust. I use it on new metal too, i hand sand it with 40 or 80 grit so it has plenty to adhere to. Its never let me down and dispenses the use of primer which makes life a bit easier! I have used that 'rust bullet' stuff before which works a bit differently in that it completely cuts off oxygen to the rust - i believe...
@@albrighttopover Yeah its basically my only option where i am. I wouldn't say it gets very hard though, i mean in terms of resisting physical abrasion, i certainly wouldn't use it as a truck bed liner. So i reckon the stuff Brent is using is a different line. I thought for years Hammerite had the name 'Hammerite' because it could resist stones and abrasion etc, but it turns out the name comes from the companies original line of paints which were paints that dry giving a hammered look. Very popular back in the 40's and 50's. Of course the original company got bought up by a much bigger one (now days AkzoNobel).
"it completely cuts off oxygen to the rust" ... and therein lies the problem with "Corrosion" (steel and Aluminum). 40 years in International Aerospace ... gotta be careful dealing with the "conservation of mass" (Rust) as it is "alive" and organic. By sealing off the exterior, it no longer has an easy path to the requisite "oxygen" and therefore redirects inward and that's how it ends up as "rot"; there's a reason why all the Interstate steel light poles are not painted ... the thin exterior rust allows it to "breathe" and not rot out. Not knocking Brent's pursuit of an eye pleasing uniform look (and it looks great) but just a warning to apply a product that also neutralizes existing, active corrosion. P.S. NEVER accept sheet Aluminum that has had a thin coating of "oil" on it ... should always be dry from new.
Hey Brent ,great video ,catching up with all the small stuff ,looks great ,looking forward to the front work repairs and changes to the front end ,thanks and take care
Thank you for making a quality video. The one thing I would recommend is that when you use a bolt in shear for locating suspension links such as the panhard bar, make sure the threads of the bolt are not in shear. Select a bolt where the shank is long enough for a proper installation. Washers can be added under the head of the bolt and on the thread end to accomplish this. The threads of a bolt act like an end mill if they are in shear and worse case they create a stress riser.
I believe Ford Ranger has a slave cylinder that will work with few modifications! I'm thinking that even f-150 ,early 70s had one also! Looking forward to seeing the finished product 😀 👌!! Jim
This is still by far the best of the RUclips car shows. Seeing the entire process is fascinating and really relaxing to watch.
Frankly, I think there's a whole other channel in here too. #growingaballermustache

You've got THAT right....someone, somewhere is doing exactly that right now!
Yeah and they'd create "tension" in the shop to try and make it interesting and detract from their out of the box project.
@@ReverendPONT Yup, "made for TV" leaves the real deal on the "cutting room" floor, never to be seen!
No truer words have been spoken. It's all about the old school way.... use what you got.

It is always a school day at “Halfass Customs”. It is all coming together pretty nicely. 👍👍
hehe... Pablo with his poker face on like he wasn't interested in going in for supper!
Just a splash of paint makes all the difference.
As always Pablo steals the show. Lol he's so cool.
With your weather it's not hard to imagine why it takes forever for paint to flash off.
So true. It's a dump there, snow, garbage and salt every where

Amen on the swaps ... and the Latin music as well as the more comical "Zorba the Greek" tune !!!

Terrific progress, had to laugh when Pablo got air blown and didn’t blink an eye. Great entertainment for the expatriot in the Mekong . Thank you☮️

Pablo‘s a great shop partner, always there giving silent approval encouragement.😁
Between Brent, Bad Chad and Deboss my Canadian heart is full. Brent, your interaction with Pablo is soul warming.
Got to add D&D Speedshop to complete the Canadian quadfecta!

A needle gun, one of the best tools anyone that lives in the rust belt can use ! I did a whole OLDS engine with one of them!
