My favorite "twin" movie was Moon. Same simple techniques (lots of motion control cameras) but the interaction between the characters was just so well done. Meanwhile, James Cameron just used Linda Hamilton's actual twin in T2. Much cheaper and faster than face replacement
Occasionally they can use the actor’s real life twin to film a shot. In the second terminator movie, the T1000 version of Sarah Connor ( near the end of the movie) was played by Linda Hamilton’s identical twin sister, Leslie
...and in fact, there's another pair of twins earlier in the movie, when a security guard gets terminated. The Stanton twins (Don and Dan) also appeared (as twins) in Good Morning Vietnam.
In Terminator 2 James Cameron used real twins to depict T-1000 in other forms. It was for Sarah Conner character (Linda Hamilton and Leslie Hamilton) and hospital security guard (Don Stanton and Dan Stanton). Interestingly most thought it was green screen.
Very interesting video! But I'm not sure if the scene from Us at 0:13 is the best example because I can't see the face on the right at all. That could be anyone really... ;)
The tennis ball eyeline could be enhanced with perhaps a pair of tennis balls or 2 "eyes" set anatomically correctly distanced for the reacting actor's close ups. When we look someone in the eyes we tend to flick from one eye to the other, not blankly stare into one eye.
Fun fact, they didn’t have to use any of these techniques in movies featuring the Olsen twin, because she’s just one person who can move back and forth really fast.
Great informative video. I think they this sort of technology might come in handy for filming in the current climate where maybe close contact might not be advisable. At least it would prevent all movies being about characters standing 6ft apart from each other, which would get boring very quickly.
Make this interesting and tell us how they use these tricks in real life in Hollywood or better yet how 2 completely different people play the role of one actor or entertainer. I guess you can’t give us all the secrets 😉
The fur coat is over her shoulders so just like in the Ronald Colman one where the blanket separated the head from the hands all they had to do was to tape half of the shot and paste the second take on it once Betty shot the scene again as the other twin. One of my favourite examples of double the actor is when Mary Pickford kissed herself on the cheek in Little Lord fauntleroy from 1921.
I may be missing something here, but if my genetics courses in university taught me anything, then something isn't adding up. You mentioned in the movie "The Prisoner of Zenda", there was a scene "where Ronald Colman shakes hands with his identical cousin"...... pretty sure you can't be identical to your cousin, unless there's some tricky family business going on.
Identical cousins was the entire premise of The Patty Duke Show. I never saw The Prisoner of Zenda, but I don't think in either case there was a tacit or implicit indication of incest. On The Patty Duke Show specifically, they (she?) were just cousins who happened to look exactly like one another.
If identical twins married identical twins, genetically their kids would be siblings. However, as with siblings (who aren't fraternal twins), the chances of them being identical is basically non-existent. The idea of identical cousins is absurd.
2:56 whenever there's a mirror on set and a camera is filming the scene looking directly at the mirror because the actor is standing in front of it, did they digitaly erase the camera in the mirror like they did here?
Not once during Us was I ever taken out of the movie. It was so seamless, it never crossed my mind how difficult it must have been to make.
I remember thinking after watching it that the cloning effects must’ve been a lot of work, but I wasn’t even thinking about the handheld shots.

yall didnt use 'what happened to monday' that movie has 7 identical sisters played b one actress
jesus christ any movie where an actor plays more than one character that interacts with each other i just think how grueling the process must be
Great informative video.
I'd love to know where they hid the matte line in that Bette Davis shot from "A Stolen Life" at 1:39.
My favourite twinning movie is probably “The Double” with Jesse Eisenberg, directed by Richard Ayoade.
I may be missing something here, but if my genetics courses in university taught me anything, then something isn't adding up.
You mentioned in the movie "The Prisoner of Zenda", there was a scene "where Ronald Colman shakes
hands with his identical cousin"...... pretty sure you can't be identical to your cousin, unless there's some tricky family business going on.
0:01 I couldn't differentiate!
Who made this? They literally showcased Orphan Black as a head face replacement... it wasn’t I should know I was the VFX supervisor on it.
First scene:Ah, I thought that is pretty good cutting.

*Her hand disapears mid-air*

FEELS GOOD TO BE EARLY!!!
Apreciate the tennis ball guys. Appreciate the tennis ball.
I liked how Fringe did alternative reality doppelgangers
I remember the parent trap :)iv watched it at camp and at home
2:56 whenever there's a mirror on set and a camera is filming the scene looking directly at the mirror because the actor is standing in front of it, did they digitaly erase the camera in the mirror like they did here?
No mention of "Multiplicity" ?
orphan black was brilliant!
