  • It's hard enough to direct human actors in a challenging role. What if the performers aren't human at all? Hollywood movies have made stars out of almost every member of the animal kingdom, from the deadly python in "Snakes on a Plane" and the capuchin monkey in "The Hangover Part II" to the real spider actors in "Arachnophobia" and "Spider-Man." And it's up to animal trainers, wranglers, and handlers to get the performances they need out of all of these critters, tailoring their approaches to the type of animal they're dealing with and the specific tricks or actions filmmakers want to see.
Trainer Benay Karp uses peanut butter to make her parrots look like they're talking for TV jobs, while "goat mom" Scout Raskin takes advantage of her goats' natural instincts to get them to do specific movements for the camera. Meanwhile, reptile wranglers like the ones at Universal Animals use different approaches to handling venomous and non-venomous snakes for movies and TV productions. From teaching horses to fall down safely in "Game of Thrones" battles to getting a cockroach to hit its mark for a memorable scene in "Saint Maud," let's look at how trainers prepare 10 different animals and insects for some of Hollywood's biggest roles.

except the parrots, they're too smart to get confused. Look at the videos on here of African greys, many of them have figured out how to use Alexa to meet their own needs, in some cases better than the humans can eg the parrot that keeps calling walmart & owner was shocked the first time, cause she didn't even know how to do it. Same parrot tells Alexa to turn lights on & off & music on & off to override it's owners choices lol & a lot of them seem to like adding things like strawberries to the shopping list - repeatedly!

@@lalalalaaAa123 The reason the the American Humane Society was formed was due to the outrage when 2 horses were blindfolded & filmed galloping off a cliff pulling a carriage. The blindfolds being so that the horses didn't stop when they reached the cliff. There's been some horrendous behaviour in the film industry over the years! Children & women don't get it much better than the animals either! In fact in recent years they probably get worse (although there's still some pretty bad horror stories that come out with animals too, especially during training before the actual filming & monitoring begins, but Crystal the monkey was caught up in some outrage with the Hangover as well, being filmed outside America to avoid monitoring)

    • @Prizzlesticks
      @Prizzlesticks 2 года назад +23

One of the reasons scientists can't measure cat intelligence like they do with other animals is because cats don't give a flying flip, so it becomes impossible to say if a cat won't complete a task because they're dumb or because they're apathetic. Like, we're pretty sure most cats are pretty smart, but we can't qualify it because very few will accede to our tests.

People have known how to train them for centuries; you can find videos of Cossacks laying down their horses in the early 1900s and they were using traditional techniques. Hollywood just considered horses disposable until recently. Actually, they considered basically everyone disposable - people died on some of those old sets.

I LOVED those rat scenes. Rats are smart, friendly, and learn tricks relatively easier than some other animals. Peanut butter is gold! I had a batch that travelled from the house to the park in a shoulder bag, then swarmed out to eat grass and bugs, then would return to the bag when I called. Scared the life out of a few people, but they were never in danger. The movies (Ben, Willard, etc.) Convinced people they could be trained for evil. They were trained for peanut butter, they aren't dangerous. Saved me from being burglarized in a very sketchy living area. The locals were convinced that they were trained to "attack." Nope, just to go from treats to treats, or treats to a bag. No violence involved. But no one challenged the "rat lady." Thanks, little guys.....seriously! Sweet little cuddlebugs.

You are a robber. You found a good place with a defenseless person. Or so you think. You enter through the window. Then, you hear it. Although weak, you can feel something moving. Or someone. Then, you feel it in your shoes. Then in your pants. Then, the lower part of your chest. You turn on the lights. There is a group of cockroaches surrounding you. Then, even more. Then, the so called "defenseless person" appears.
"YOU HAVE MADE A HUGE MISTAKE COMING HERE", he says.
"COME, MY CHILDREN. RID THIS WORLD OF IT'S EVIL".
      You panic.
      The doors are locked.

Radioactive Lizards are actually highly intelligent and easy to train, like jack russel terriers.. you just tickle his belly with some light matchine gun fire and he opens his mouth so you can digitally add the blue fire. You just gotta make sure they don't get too excited because Jira lizards get tail waggy when happy and can accidentally take down some buildings inadvertently. Just keep some MUTO meat around for treats and it's fine.
As for Kong... Kong is an absolute diva. Barely follows instructions, shows up late to set and drinks tankers full of banana smoothies. He required a personal trainer to stop him from getting fat, because he had to be in Hollywood shape for his big blockbuster. Just use gorilla sign language and hope he feels like acting... he knows he's the only big ape in the business and can get away with whatever he wants.
Gidorah is a whole other issue. Training 3 in one... when they get skiddish they flap their wings, and last time Gidorah was startled we lost New Orleans! They look tough, but Gidorah is a bit softy.
If you can keep the leftmost head under control, keep the middle one from being afraid and keep the right one well fed, they're pretty easy to deal with.
Kaiju are actually pretty good to film with.. most people don't even know that Kong wore a few rubber suits for Pacific rim, he played the big Russian Jaeger too and Zilla played the big scary swimming one at the end with prosthetics.
Now that Kaiju have earned fair pay and treatment, we should be seeing much more of them in films to come!
(I heard Zilla might be in Shang Chi, playing Fin Fang Foom! That would be pretty cool!)

The "rope on the leg" can be very stressful for a horse as they are forced down. even if it doesn't cause them physical harm if down correctly, they will still most likely have trama. It's like being tripped in the school hallways for us, even if the floor was carpeted it can still scare us to death.
