      Hi Py T. Other than cooking sambal petai, I normally eat raw with Papaya Salad else with sambal belacan and deep fried fish. We can also stir fry with prawns. I have seen my sister making pickled petai, will check with her on recipe. Stay tuned! Thanks!

      Hi Yoon Pooi Kuan, thank you for the comment 😀 I'm not sure as I've not returned to Thailand for a few years now. Yes, in KL Malaysia, they are really expensive. I could only get a handful of them for one dish. You're welcome, I hope you will be able to get an abundance of petai 😀

    Gosh I throw away some because I don’t know how to differentiate spoiled from gd ones n it’s really expensive ! Wa but I don’t think I seen worms
    I only keep abt two weeks but in fridge

    • @HomeCookingwithSomjit
      @HomeCookingwithSomjit  2 года назад

      Hi Metta JY, thank you for sharing 😀 Yes, usually they cannot be differentiated from the outside. Have to open and check to see if there are holes or worms. And they are quite expensive. When I keep them in the fridge, I usually wrap with paper to absorb the moisture in an airtight container, and change the paper every now and then to prevent them from sweating. Hope it helps 😀

    In the Hmar language spoken by the tribal people of northeast India "Stink Bean" or" Petai" is called " Zongtra"(Zawngțah) which means monkey bean probably because monkeys are eating it when it is ripe

    Once you defrost the petai, it already lost the crunchiness isn't it

    • @HomeCookingwithSomjit
      @HomeCookingwithSomjit  2 года назад

      Hi Ivy Lim, thank you for the feedback 😀 When it's defrosted, I find that it looses about 25% of its crunchiness - however, the taste and fragrance are still intact. Hope it helps 😀
