Given the way he talks about wives and mothers, this is how I think Jack the Ripper came to be: His mother abandoned him in an orphanage run nuns who severely beat him every time he did something wrong, even something minor, his mind was further damaged by his civil war service, but what finally pushed him over the edge and created Jack was that he caught his wife cheating on him while in London, likely on their honeymoon. Yet he couldn't bring himself to kill her so he tortured her to both make an example of her and to ensure she'd stay quiet, and then unleashed his first reign of terror in London, before returning to Gotham where Jack remained dormant until the movie. jayden the god Why can’t you let some of them live their lives ? It says more if someone feels the need to dictate others because they feel like they are morally superior.
It actually makes sense to have Jim as Jack the Ripper, nobody knew who Jack actually was back then, he just got his name from a letter he sent to the police chief, many people speculate he could have been a barber or maybe even there could have been two Jack the Rippers, However I think Jack may have been a police officer and a barber, because who wouldn't want a shave? And he also knew how to cover his tracks, he seemed to think like a cop so much it's as if he knew everything they would do, like they would teach you when your in training to be an officer of the law.
It would be almost impossible for a civilian to have done it at the time, London streets were prowling with police officers, only people who wouldn't be suspected for walking around late at night were the officers themselves. Also people respected the authority, that's why most of the victims had almost no signs of struggle on them because they wouldn't have expected an officer to kill them the second they let their guard down.
Souns like a solid theory of Jack the Ripper being a police officer. Another theory I heard was that Jack may have been a soldier and surgeon because a lot of the victims were cut in places where they would bleed out in seconds or minutes and Jack was able to evade detection through military training in the army. But I suppose in this movie your theory and the one I heard covers all that with Jim Gordon being a soldier, doctor and police chief.
Jack the Ripper was araon kosminski a 23 years old barber and the theory has not been debunked apparently some woman in 2005 researched every clue she found and put it all together to see who jack was and the theory makes a lot of sense and no has been able to debunk her ever since

To be fair, Batman was going to save Gordon but couldn’t really do so without killing himself. Also it not exactly like Batman left Gordon to burn. Gordon walked backwards into the flames. If Batman tried to stop him, he would have first had to walk through a wall of fire and then be beaten away by Gordon
Also there’s nothing really wrong with that mentality. I know Batman is awesome because he’s Batman but if he could escape from prison, what would be to stop Commissioner Gordon? It’s better this way, considering the first thing he would have done was kill again
Also notice at 2:52. Batman actually does save Gordon, which he goes on to exploit. There’s a saying related to this. See if you can finish it. Fool me once. Shame on you...
Batman: 'And your children? Your wife said you were as gentle with them as you were on her. What sin needed to be burned out of them?' Gordon: 'My children came into this world pure of heart, mind, body and soul. They wept as they came into this sinful world and it broke my heart to see their beauty. Theirs was clean. Theirs was untouched. Theirs was pure. But I also wept from the knowledge that that purity would soon be tainted just by living in this city. It broke my heart that my son would grow up only to be corrupted by every painted slut and every lily-livered knave he met. It broke my heart to know that womans sins of deception, vanity and harlotry would soon enter my daughters soul. But I didn't give into despair, I kept my hope for them. I did what every true father would do, and kept them away from the contamination of the outside world. I kept their sin at bay. I burned and removed their natural sins out of them before it had a chance to take hold of them. As I absolved the sins of my wife I saved the souls of my children. I've kept them pure.'
Batman's superpower is his refusal to give up. His willpower. Money can't buy you that. Money can't buy training day and night, working on skills. Money helps for tools, and gadgets. He's more a combination of Sherlock Holmes and James Bond.
@@leftcoaster67 I am pretty sure that there are drugs for focus and hanging around with successful people for money is a great way to be like those people. We are like sponges after all
You know, thinking about it having someone like Gordon be Jack the Ripper is actually brilliant. In the regular timeline Gordon's the working man. The honest man. The man of incorruptible virtue. Because of that we the audience automatically removed Gordon from the list of possible suspects because someone as upstanding as Gordon couldn't possibly be a killer. But that's just the thing: that's precisely how the most successful irl serial killers come across. They're not lunatics who where bright colors screaming how they're going to disembowel us all. Most of the time they come across as normal people who you would go out to get a beer with. They're charming and approachable and come across as good, upstanding citizens, when deep down they're really twisted, disturbed individuals. In fact, most serial killers get away with killing for so long PRECISELY because people can't believe they're a murderer. Charles Sobhraj managed to escape justice for years despite killing over twelve people because people who met him just thought he was "just so charming and couldn't possibly be the killer" and the cops almost had a chance to stop Jeffrey Dahmer mid-killing but didn't because he convinced them that everything was fine and he and his "friend" were just having a lover's spat. Only this time it's us. We the audience made the call that Gordon "couldn't possibly be the killer." On top of that, Gordon's condition makes sense. He is a man broken by war, the war that killed more Americans than every other war America has ever fought combined. He saw the worst of humanity laid bare again and again and again. And what outlet did he have? Nothing. The war was over. He was expected to just forget it all and to become "civilized" again. People didn't want to know about his pain or his suffering, they just wanted him to be a "good boy" again. This happens to soldiers IRL even in modern times, where they come back from deployment and are expected to reintegrate back into civilian life. So some soldiers bottle it in. They try and pretend like everything's alright and that nothings wrong. Except it isn't. And some veterans just eventually break down. And then they're ignored, because they're not a "good member of society" any more. What's so uncomfortable about Gordon as the Ripper is that he's realistic. You could believe that someone like Gordon could become the Ripper, and that's frightening. But the thing most people probably find the most uncomfortable, at least subconsciously? The movie blames us for this. We, the people, did this. We ignored the problems that people like Gordon have just so we could have a "normal" society and then we allowed him to get away with what he did because we assumed someone like him couldn't. Gordon is a monster that murders innocent people, but we as a society are what created him.
Well said, and you have to look at some other things of Gordon's past through the things he said in this video, particularly about women or being left-handed.
Shuriken250 Yep. American Revolution was roughly 25,000 (most due to disease and starvation) War of 1812 was roughly 15,000 Mexican American War was 13,283 Spanish American War was 2,246 Philippine American War was 4,196 World War I was 116,516 World War II was 405,399 (the second highest in terms of US casualties) Korean War was 36,574 Vietnam War was 58,209 War in Afghanistan is 2,216 War in Iraq is 4,576 And the American Civil War resulted in roughly 616,222 fatalities, although modern estimates say it was actually closer to one million. The big reason this number is so high was due in part to the scope of the war. Unlike subsequent wars, the Civil War was fought entirely on US soil, and the sheer area of land where the fighting took place was larger than any previous conflict. And unlike previous wars, the Civil War was the first “total war” fought by the US. Meaning it wasn’t just armies fighting in the field but civilian infrastructure and population centers were targeted as well, since those are the lifeblood of any army (food, manufacturing, transportation centers, etc.). This meant that the civilian deaths resulting from the Civil War were astronomical, as those who didn’t die outright from the burning and sacking of a city would often starve. On top of that, the military technology of the Civil War advanced by leaps and bounds. Rifled barrels became more common, meaning infantry weapons became far more accurate. This lead to more battlefield injuries, which in turn led to absolutely devastating outbreaks of disease in military camps on both sides. In short, the Civil War was pretty much hell for everyone involved.
Anyone complaining about the batman is so weak remember this is in the past, where other martial arts didn't exist, and also its difficult to travel back then. So batman has a limited martial arts to learn, and also jack the ripper is a boxing champion so i guess batman has a difficult to time to deal with jack thr ripper.
No. Many martial arts existed back then, though they were not widespread outside of their homeland. Many people also tend to underestimate boxers; they are no joke. They develop INSANE stamina and upper body strength, have excellent defense and footwork In addition, Gordon was a war veteran, who probably learned very effective hand-to-hand styles.
Kirami Depends on who you ask. Thai people call it boxing, but they probably call many combat sports boxing. Muay Thai employs many similar conditioning methods, but they tend to stay relatively still whereas many Western boxers are crazy agile on their feet. I had a MT teacher once, and he confessed the two fighters he was afraid of were grapplers and boxers.
KodachiC One problem with your theory. They didn't study hand-to-hand combat in the civil war. So, I highly doubt he learned those techniques during that time.

Combine the "using your left hand means wickedness in certain cultures" deal and the fact that this Gordon says he uses his right hand "for everything except Jack's work" simply proves that he knows he's evil. He doesn't even try to hide or deny it. He simply accepts it.

Then my suspects were dent, bullock, and Gordon, but bullock shows up at the same time as Jack and I remembered Dent had been drunk during sister Leslies murder, and I spent the rest of the movie hoping I was wrong
It's the same style as spectaculaire spider-man and the animated hellboy movies. So I say: give us a crossover of those 3 in a 2 hour animated movie please thank you!!!
That laugh at the end as Gordon walks into the flames and they take him, it sounded way too much like the Joker for it to have been a coincidence. I wonder if it was a nod for a potential continuation of Gotham by Gaslight. Gordon survives the fire and lets his insanity take over at the sight of his face and proceeds to laugh maniacally (like in the Killing Joke) and eventually takes on a new persona as the Joker. He'll either still know the Batman's true identity as Bruce Wayne and keep the secret to give himself and Bruce a sense of anticipation and the Batman something to worry about, or he will forget Batman's identity as a sign of the birth of a new evil in Gotham. Either way, the Joker will know Batman had taken on three pupils (the incarnations of Dick Grayson, Jason Todd and Tim Drake from the beginning of Gotham by Gaslight) and during the story there will be a 'death in the family' when the Joker kills Jason. It could either be by a classic crowbar beatdown, old fashioned Jack the Ripper-styled butchering or something worse. This continuation of Gotham by Gaslight could be a bit like Superman: Red Son, where they stuffed everything into the movie, so this way we'd potentially be able to get some form of Jason Todd's Red Hood
There is a Gaslight Joker he’s described as this: This man was a serial killer who married rich old ladies and then murdered them for their money. He killed ten women by poisoning them with strychnine. When he was caught by the Gotham City Police Department he attempted to commit suicide by drinking his own poison. Instead of killing him, it simply paralyzed his face into a horrible grin. 😊
"There are no rules in hell" Actually there are a lot of rules in hell. In the vast majority of mythology hell has a huge amount of structure and rules in order to operate what with different levels dedicated to different sinner types, purgatory for temporary rehabilitation accommodation and even a specific miniature city for the ruling cast of demons to debate politics called Pandemonium. In many ways it's the place with the most rules because of the complexity of its residents.
Sounds a lot more better than Gotham in a way, scum like the Joker can't do without suffering the consequences of burning and having to experience that for eternity. Any sinner would have to suffer from some sort of cage and punishment. Gotham's Arkham Asylum isn't anything like that, they let the villains off the hook after each crime. Hell's prison doesn't take any of that shit lightly
Like in 'THe Devil's Carnival where there are 666 rules, so you basically can't do anything without breaking a rule resulting in your being punished - the way they've set up torture in that part of hell
Man... Their "Gentlemanny Power Talk" during the fight was the best part, such a powerful scene, this Batman was lucky to have defeated his clearly superior enemy, he surpassed The Joker in every single way, and even went out like a total badass

This Batman is so cool, the movie was good too. I was trying to solve who it was at first but I was wrong two times. This Batman costume is so cool tho, it reminds me of Noir Spiderman.
Batman: Left-handed... Gordon: Oh the nuns beat that wickedness out of me. 'Always use my right.' Except for Jack's work. WTF Jack? You gonna kill all Southpaws in Gotham next? I'm actually offended by the "wickedness" crack.
There was and still is a belief among a predominantly right-handed society that left-handed people are the misfits of society. In Latin the word "sinister" means "left" and "unlucky" or "evil". In French the word "gauche" means "left" and "awkward" or "clumsy". In English the word "left" comes from Anglo-Saxon word "lyfy" which means "weak". And the phrase "the left-hand path" is a reference towards those who believe or practice Black magic.

jsutton0010 nothing wrong with changing source material. It's a different art form, and writers have every right to tell their own story. Besides, if you want to make a detective story taking place in Batman story and introduce a character who never was in the Batman mythos - come on mate, even 2 year old would figure out the identity of a killer in that case.

Everyone is talking about the villain and fighting and the twist. Is no one going to talk about the fact that nuns beat gordon as a kid just for being left handed. Back in the olden days left handedness was considered unnatural, and some churches believed it to be demonic. This is why Ned Flanders supported left handed people so much back in the early seasons of the simpsons. Ned wasn't left handed fanatic, he was protesting the church albeit 150 years late. I guess Batman has fully embraced the "I won't kill you, but I don't have to save you either! GRAAAAHHHHHH" mentality.
Gordon killed himself, Batman was about to save him
To be fair, Batman was going to save Gordon but couldn’t really do so without killing himself.
Just Some Guy with a Mustache ah ah, you are Jellal! :)
Batman: 'And your children? Your wife said you were as gentle with them as you were on her. What sin needed to be burned out of them?'
Gordon: 'My children came into this world pure of heart, mind, body and soul.
That.... that is SO DAMN GOOD and fits with how Jack/Gordon would explain his children.
Damn. Just....damn.
So, he burned them. Damn

Nice fact you deserve my like
3:57 ~ Finally BATMAN uses his super power. Just as the Justice League movie were told.
his money
pressurecross his money
Batman's superpower is his refusal to give up. His willpower. Money can't buy you that. Money can't buy training day and night, working on skills. Money helps for tools, and gadgets. He's more a combination of Sherlock Holmes and James Bond.
@@leftcoaster67 I am pretty sure that there are drugs for focus and hanging around with successful people for money is a great way to be like those people. We are like sponges after all
his superpower is Prep time.
We the audience made the call that Gordon "couldn't possibly be the killer."
On top of that, Gordon's condition makes sense.
Hfar how does one mix ‘where’ with ‘wear’?
We live in a society.
Civil war killed the most americans?
Shuriken250 Yep.
American Revolution was roughly 25,000 (most due to disease and starvation)
War of 1812 was roughly 15,000
Mexican American War was 13,283
Spanish American War was 2,246
Philippine American War was 4,196
World War I was 116,516
World War II was 405,399 (the second highest in terms of US casualties)
Korean War was 36,574
Vietnam War was 58,209
War in Afghanistan is 2,216
War in Iraq is 4,576
And the American Civil War resulted in roughly 616,222 fatalities, although modern estimates say it was actually closer to one million.
They develop INSANE stamina and upper body strength, have excellent defense and footwork
In addition, Gordon was a war veteran, who probably learned very effective hand-to-hand styles.
Plus Gordon is older than him and is an actual boxing champion
KodachiC Especially old bare knuckle boxers. No face guards, no mouth piece...a good punch could kill someone.
KodachiC One problem with your theory. They didn't study hand-to-hand combat in the civil war. So, I highly doubt he learned those techniques during that time.
On a rewatch, the guy Selena was dating mentions that Jim Gordon had set up a curfew due to Jack’s murders, not much a hint, but a fun fact that he was using his position as a commissioner to keep any all people off the streets; except working girls.

I love this concept tho
@Big Bopper I see. Maybe they'll do something different, though, since the story went on the way it did without the Joker, anyway.

There is a Sequel .
There is a Gaslight Joker he’s described as this:
This man was a serial killer who married rich old ladies and then murdered them for their money. He killed ten women by poisoning them with strychnine. When he was caught by the Gotham City Police Department he attempted to commit suicide by drinking his own poison. Instead of killing him, it simply paralyzed his face into a horrible grin. 😊
"There are no rules in hell"
Actually there are a lot of rules in hell.

I'm too much of a smartass to let a badass line be a badass line.

I don't think there are still rules in hell since the King of hell left and went back to L.A

Batman: Left-handed...
Gordon: Oh the nuns beat that wickedness out of me. 'Always use my right.' Except for Jack's work.
WTF Jack? You gonna kill all Southpaws in Gotham next? I'm actually offended by the "wickedness" crack.
That was an actual thing they did to children who were left-handed. They forcibly conditioned them to use the 'proper' hand.
And the phrase "the left-hand path" is a reference towards those who believe or practice Black magic.

jsutton0010 oh wats the original story😗? Im intrigued
jsutton0010 You see they had to change that because Jacob Parker was an original character so having him appear would make him an obvious suspect. They wanted to make a twist here so it had to be someone else. Plus it’s an adaptation there has to be changes and I think for the most part they work.
This movie is actually way better than the comic itself.
jsutton0010 nothing wrong with changing source material. It's a different art form, and writers have every right to tell their own story. Besides, if you want to make a detective story taking place in Batman story and introduce a character who never was in the Batman mythos - come on mate, even 2 year old would figure out the identity of a killer in that case.
Jacob Packer (not Parker) is still in the movie though, as Bruce's defense, just as he was in the comic.

Same with Gordon when he said the nuns beat the wickedness of being left handed.
Ben that’s fucked up
Me thinking that the real Jack the Ripper is many different people.
Also me watching Gotham by gaslight: "holy shit it was Gordon all along"
That back and forth beating they were giving each other and not a drop of blood on Gordon’s face
