"Don't come back to the house until you've seen a movie and developed an opinion on it."
~Hideo Kojima's parents
I can imagine his parents getting a sword ready for sepeku if he didn't.
That’s so cool!
Now that's good parenting
Now, that's called the comment section of youtube
I want an essay in by midnight!
- kojima's dad
Kojima's mom sounds like a *f'king LEGEND* for all that support on his path, and the patient playthroughs of her son's games.
The video doesn't mention it, but she passed away in 2017, from what I was able to find. I hope that both of his parents know the world knows they raised an excellent storyteller, and respected man.

Mama Hideo's support deserves a salute.
that is actually the part that stuck out the most for me in this video. the fact that his mother supported him from the start and has played and completed all his games. that just shows she truly loves him and wants to support him completely.

You could say... She's... The Boss.

Not to brag or anything but I am the exact 1000th like
You gotta admit kojima is a beast no matter how hard things came at him he came back punching harder and faster
That's the will of a perfectionist. He doesn't get angry, he doesn't get even, he just says: "No matter, I'll just make new franchises that are better than my past."
@@shindean it's inspiring
Kojima deserves all the respect he can get.
"Ora ora ora ora ora ora!" lol
His punches are pretty weak since MGS5 tho
I really hope for a Hideo Kojima documentary in the future, he's a legend in the gaming industry.
i have good news
Kojima's metal gear series basically made my childhood lol
When i was like 5 i would run around the house like snake and my grandfather would be the genome soldier lol
good times.
Same here bro. From MGS1 to MGSV, Hideo made my childhood to adulthood unforgettable
Your grandfather is a Chad for that
Did he say, huh? What was that noise?
Hideo’s mother finishes a game*
Hideo hears his phone ring and picks up the call*
Hideo’s mother: It’s finished.
The original "V has come to"
I bet Hideo's mother cried at the end of MGS3. That story is beautiful enough to make anyone cry, then she realizes that this is the level of story her son was born to tell... Boom.
@michael lynch
As if that's the reason why people like him. Watch the video before talking shit. I'm guessing you're a nobody and are jealous that another nobody became something you'll never will
@michael lynch, go back to playing CoD and Fortnite.
@michael lynch, my first console was the Atari 2600. I really don't care how extensive your collection is. Just because people like Kojima doesn't make them fanboys. I am going to play Death Stranding and I know I will love it for what it is, not because Kojima made it, but because I know I will like the new gameplay. I actually played MGSV and I don't think it's an awesome game, it's ok, but not awesome.
So many people jumping on the hate bandwagon because a few reviewers didn't like it. The thing is that the majority of reviewers on Metacritic give it 9/10 or more. There's actually more reviewers giving it 10/10 than there is reviewers giving it under 7/10. So suck that dick, wanker!
@michael lynch, it's actually only $69 at some stores here in Australia. That's about $48 USD, but I'm sure I'll be happy with my purchase, because I have seen what is this game is, read the reviews, I know what I'm getting into.
@michael lynch Good try man, but you need to be a bit more subtle with your trolling. " infact my entire game collection, and my arcade, cabinets and arcade boards will make you give up gaming." fucking hipster troll, lol, you did get a laugh out of me, so good job there. The rest of you are fucking idiots for falling for it.
When I heard how supportive Kojima's mom was, I won't lie.
*It took everything for me not to cry.*
That's some really loving, and amazing parenting.
_Koijma's parents are the absolute coolest parents of all time._
Can we just take a moment to show some love for Kojima's super-supportive mom?

"It is finished"
Bruh is Hideo Kojima's mom Jesus?
I have so many questions about her, like what is she thinking when she's crawling through the mud just to choke guards out?
Better yet, how much would I pay to see her stream her playthroughs!
Kedar Bell LMFAOOOOO I get it, because Jesus Christ said the same thing when he died on the cross 😔😔😂😂🤝🤝
Kojima: Makes smash hit games for Konami for a good long time.
Konami: “Okay, but pachinko tho.”

"Wanting it to be the best game on the PlayStation!" And it was
Not even his first time. Metal Gear 2 on the MSX was objectively one of the best games, if not the best game, of its generation. It was way ahead of its time.
@@gilbertgotfried Not only Metal Gear 2. You forget about MGS on the PSX and MGS2 on the PS2. Those were also ahead of their time!
Very true
Oddworld has that title bro
Crash Bandicoot, Spyro, and Final Fantasy VII would rival Metal Gear Solid.
This man is both the definition of the word "madman" and the word "genius". Can't wait to get my hands on Death Stranding.
I believe the term you're looking for is "madlad" and he is the best madlad at that
I feel like he is one of the few normal humans in an industry of suits. Certainly he has "green thumb" for video games though.
The only difference between a madman and a genius is how much money you have.
Prepare to be disappointed
@@Sivrn-Val I really don't get you people who says that phrase, "Prepare to be disappointed." What if he actually liked the thing? Does that count as a win for him? If not, is that a win for you?
How would you know that he'll be disappointed? Will you be breathing down his neck while he plays the game heckling him with ASMR? Such a curious phrase for people so full of themselves.
One persons dreams, creativity, vision and passion is a entire fandom as is all of his creations from Snatcher to the the last Metal Gear game.
Hideo Kojima is a inspiration that anything is possible and that we shouldn't dwell on unforeseen circumstances but instead be positive and take each stride forward with confidence and dignity, the state or quality of being worthy of honour or respect. 😊✌
Just had an epiphany: Kojima should direct the Terminator franchise.
Would do better than the hack Tim Miller.
Yes
@Magic Dasomatic: THIS.
No. They should leave it alone and... Wait. This might actually be one of the best ideas i heard in a long time. I'm pure hype.
Well the lore can't get any more convoluted than it already is
Konami: he'll come back
Kojima: today I start my own company, and i have triple A title coming out ...
Konami: :O
Konami: ah fuck it lets make pachinko machines
i feel like, Kojima does needs a partner that's a bit more grounded. Konami had to pull Kojima from Lost Warld and hand him a "Military" game, for him to create the metal gear series. And not with free rein as an indie developer, he's made a game where you're a courier on foot in an apocalyptic wasteland. He's a brilliant creative, but i think his pure uncensored vision is niche and intentionally obtuse. Can't wait to see what he does next. I'd like to see him take on an existing IP, PT/Silent hills looked to be a classic.
I have a feeling that the happy ending to this story is when Kojima gets the rights back to his games.
It'll take awhile, but I know he'll get them back.
Did you know? Kojima was the vice president of Konami for some of the least profitable years in their history.
He's not as innocent as you like to believe.
@@shindean Kojima doesn't need to get the rights to the games he worked on. He has been wanting to make new games for a long time but Konami kept forcing him to make more Metal Gear. Personally I would love if he continued to work on it, but he wanted to be done with that series for over a decade.
That fact that his mother plays his games absolutely warms my heart
His folks sound like a big reason for his success, that's really cool.
'Kojima heard rumours of Sony's new console: the Playstation. When he finally saw the device he set out to create a new Metal Gear title, wanting it to be best game on the Playstation.'
He bloody well succeeded, didn't he?
Japanese: Develop, Debug, and then release. Patches are more of Add-ons. No bug to fix.
The rest: Develop, Debug less, then release. Patches are bug fix, add-ons and etcs.
Death stranding is a masterpiece!!!! Phenomenal in all aspects.
Honestly, I think if there was a celebrity that I was going to fangirl over, Kojima is the one. MGS3 is still probably my favorite video game of all time and I absolutely loved MGS2 when I was growing up and I played MGS4 as soon as I could when it launched.
I will say, I'm very glad he didn't go into film making because if he was a film director, some of my favorite games wouldn't exist today.
Make us proud, Boss.

that story about how he spent all that time alone, I could definitely see that playing into his inspiration for death stranding and connecting with people... makes a lot of sense! I think the original MGS was the first game of his I ever completed (though I likely have played the MSX prequels a little bit prior) definitely my favorite playstation game ever! I did also eventually get to play Policenauts after the fan-translation was released about a decade ago.

@@RandoLePerson Jeez the game isn't even out yet.
Honestly it depends entirely on how the mechanics will be implemented. All of those can be done without it being a chore.

@@lI-tm2pn "pathetic." Not everyone can have the free time you have.
@@Grinnar Fuck off dude, it's pathetic.
DYKG isn't just ONE person making videos like it's fucking hard to get one video out a month or something. It's a TEAM of people making constant amounts of content every single week. And you're telling me they couldn't bother to re-allocate ANY of that production on a brand new channel that they advertised and touted to the moon and back like it was the best new thing and the most ambitious extention of the "Did You Know" brand, only to make 8 videos and then fucking quit like a bitch and not touch it for 7 months, while they seem to put out about 11 videos a month on HERE?
Bull fucking shit.
They were lazy, they put all that time and effort into making the channel and promoting it and then fucking gave up like some amateur kid who has no idea what they're even doing. It's bizarre that a brand that is so highly regarded, tries a big brand extention, puts so much false hope into it and then just leaves it to die and pretends it's still worth throwing into the end slate. And it's stupid that they're still promoting it even though we know for a fact that channel is dead. That's pathetic.
I love Hideo Kojima! Thank you for making my favourite video game series, Metal Gear Solid!
Konami: i know! Lets fire all our expensive employees to save money. We can just have anyone make the games. Customers just want to see their favorite intellectual properties.

Konami after Contra Rogue Corps: "...now who shot my other foot? I'm running out of feet her people, I need answers!" *gentle wind passes through empty office*
This would be true if Konami weren't making a crapton of money off of their pachinko machines, which they do. They make enough money to not care that the actual games they make are shit.
@@KuroNoTenno Not as much money as you think, and things are getting worse.

So if Konami’s plan was to attempt and destroy a legendary game designer before he took over there company... THEY FAILED MISERABLY!

Literally the same intro as the memorial they did for Iwata.
Kojimas mum sounds absolutely awesome. She actually played all his games bless her. Wish my mum was that cool.
Just to clarify for some why Kojima couldn't receive the award for MGS5:
Short answer: Legal reasons. Period.
LONG ANSWER: In Japan once an individual detaches from an entertainment company they will be "banned" from interactions that directly involves the same company, this is most common in the Live Action (Tokusatsu) Genre, such example being in Kamen Rider and most noticeable through the Zi-O series that ended Heisei Era of Kamen Riders, but still some key actors could not appear because they either had their schedule full OR had defected from the talent company they belonged to, and because of that they weren't allowed anywhere near the stages where something related to Kamen Rider was going on.
That sucks. Thank you for the explanation.

This was a perfect video. It captures the essence of what made hideo so passionate about his games, and threw a little bit of shade of Konami. The industry standard me change, and Kojima decides do just work harder and be more unique, that is the developer we deserve.

I’m playing Death Stranding on an iPad in 2024. And it is the best game on the platform. Finally, mobile and good storytelling + immersive gameplay come together.
The fact that he did a complete fucking major 180 change in the 4th year of Uni and his mother supported it, REEEEEALLY hit home for me.
Now that he's free to do whatever he wants I would really like to see something like Policenauts again
As I recall, he said he would love to return to the genre, but the market is probably not interested. But I'd love to see another Kojima adventure game too!
Maybe a remaster :(

That intro started out so somber I thought he died my heart skipped a beat
One day a film will be made about this guys life. Toshiro mifune would’ve been perfect
Even though I never played them, I bought Ground Zeroes and Phantom Pain to help support him.
Now it's time to do the same with Death Stranding.
Even though reviews are polarized with Death Stranding, you have to play it knowing that Kojima and his team made it as art first, and as a game, second.
Don't take it badly but... buying a game just because of the super star status of the director is the most stupid thing I ever read in RUclips comments.
The guy was genius even as a kid. I really love this man and his work.
Silent Hills being cancelled is still the biggest loss to gaming.
It warms my heart that he's still collaborating with Norman Reedus and Guillermo Del Toro regardless of its cancellation. It shows the level of their friendship.
