Description
Hi everyone, welcome to HowFixit, in this video guide, I'm going to show you how to replace the power supply in Xbox Series X
To disassemble game console, you will need the following tools:
- Torx T8 screwdriver
- Anti-static tweezers
- Plastic opening tools
I also recommend using a magnetic mat and laying out each screw step by step during the disassembly process. Throughout this repair, keep track of each screw and make sure it goes back exactly where it came from to avoid damaging your Xbox. Thanks to the magnetic base, the screws stay on the mat and you will not lose them.
*Xbox Series X power supply problems
If your Xbox Series X has one of the following issues, the power supply might be defective:
The game console loses power shortly after being turned on.
The game console turns off while playing a game.
The game console won't turn on at all.

This the best video I’ve ever seen when it comes to talking something apart & putting it back together honestly
Thanks a lot. Last week my Xbox went down because of overvoltage. My device was out of warranty since 2 months. If you are out of warranty, the only option Microsoft offers you is replacing your device with a refurbished device for 330€. You can buy for that price even a new Xbox Series X with controller. At least you can buy everywhere a refurbished one for 330€. You can keep your defect console and you have an extra controller. Sorry Microsoft, you lost a customer, which has all consoles since xbox 360.
Anyway I watched this video, changed the psu with a new one from ebay for 50€. It was the easiest repair ever, thanks to your video.
YOOOOOO ... Thank you!!! ... I'm comfortable with computers, so this helps a bit, but i can't see even a novice techie having issues with this walkthrough ... thank you so much for all your work on this. Perfect from beginning to the end. Not a single step missed. And, thankfully, the power supply was actually the issues and my xbox is up and running for 100 bucks and about 25 minutes.
The reassemble was the best part of the video. Even though I layed all the screws out on a pad, there were many so I forgot where they all went. Thankfully you had that the reassembly part too. Big help
Thanks for the video! Very well done. This is what makes RUclips such a powerful platform. Much appreciated 🙏
Awesome tutorial! My Xbox randomly decided to not turn on anymore and this completely fixed it. I was skeptical at first because the PS I ordered from Amazon looked kind of beat up but I followed the steps exactly and it’s back working 100%!
WOW! What a great video. Thank you so much. I am not very familiar with doing anything like this but your directions from taking apart to putting it back together were perfect. Thank you so much!!!! 👍
You say in the video you have a link to a place to purchase the replacement PSU but I don't see it. I see a bunch on Amazon but not sure which one I should order.
The Xbox series x is a very well made and cleverly put together machine.
Love the reassembly, that part is so important.
Link to buy the PSU?
Is it indispensable to buy the power supply with the same model number? Unfortunately, I cannot find the one with the same number anywhere near me. Any help will be highly appreciated. Thanks.
Question I bought a Xbox series x yesterday as I was setting it up I noticed the power cord is not stiff not to tight like my old Xbox and it moves a little is it something I should go back and change or is it like that normal
Do you need the same power supply code from the original one if you want to replace it?
Thanks for the video, just what I needed.
thank you so much!
Awesome video, really well done!
Where’s the link to buy a PSU?
How much do the numbers matter? Do I need to buy another power supply that matches the same numbers as the last one?
Awesomeeeee!!! Thank you thousands due for the precious help!!!!
for some reason my 10 pin power cable is very stuck in there, any ideas? i dont wanna pull it too hard and break it
I can’t thank you enough. Very grateful.
work great for me ! only strange thing is my power light idicator is out
When I play games like cod, sea of thieves or Fortnite, it’ll crash then the Xbox will restart, is this result of bad power supply?
Thanks... New power supply now installed
Put the new power supply in and still shuts off when i click on a game and it starts then restarts the whole xbox. Any help? If not that 80 bucks down the drain
I keep having my xbox turn off mid-game. It makes the noise as if im pressing the off button, and doesnt give me an overheat error on startup. Beginning to think its the power supply, and that it may have gotten damaged during a storm... really dont want to have to open it up, but it looks like i dont have much choice...
Just to give everyone a heads up and save them from a future headache. Sure the kit is nice in the link for a T8 screw driver, but I suggest you get a different one with much more grip and strength. The one in the kit is super small and some of these screws are going to give you a lot of trouble. I almost had to call it quits and buy a different screw driver because of it.
No power in mine after a power surge months ago, the part will be delivered by the time I get home today and I’ll use this video to see if I can fix it. Fingers crossed, this video is beautiful regardless. I’ll comment how it goes afterwards!
HOW DID IT GO?
@@Meowloudandproud just finished this on my Xbox five minutes ago… still no power so far🫡
@@loganwallace7777what is the problem ?
Same issue here… still no power. Any ideas?
Same issue here… still no power. Any ideas?
There seems to be no actual link to the part itself. Gonna guess I’ll have to type out the part number in my search terms.
Thanks!
There no link to the power supply
My xbox went down today. The kids spilled liquid at the power supply and wont turn on anymore. I'm hoping this will fix it.😪
Hello everyone! Just wondering, my xbox series x power cable feels loose and wobbly on its port. Found out that some owners were also experiencing it. So last night I did try pushing it really hard and heard a “click” sound and looks like its snug in there.
My problem now is I’m overthinking I might have broken the console’s power port 🙁. It works fine tho.
Was the “click” sound normal? Thank you everyone!
Where did you get you power supply
@@johnnithanfreeman4423 out from the box
Did it ever break? I’m having a loose power cord and worried it might fall out
@@Trademarc4ever push it till you hear it click. It need some push cause the chord is still tight.
@@Trademarc4ever mine broke today...no power suddenly and a burning smell
I’m not understanding why there is a link for thermal paste. Taking out the power supply shouldn’t require reapplying the thermal paste.

Do you know why this part goes bad or is it common in the series x?
Happened to me probably is common.
looking for the link to buy a new power supply?

I received my replacement power supply yesterday and will be attempting the surgery this weekend. I admit I am nervous.
Update: It worked!!! Thanks for this video!
@@jonaron6866 hi sir
Can you tell me what is the cause for your power Supply to be dammaged?
@@2xshadowx253 My Xbox Series X just wouldn't turn on one day. No signs of life at all. I saw that a bad power supply was a frequent cause of this. I called Microsoft and checked about getting it repaired but it would cost $300 even though it was only a few months out of warranty. So I decided it was worth the gamble to try to replace the power supply myself.
Any recommendations on where to get the power supply? I’m having your exact same issue with your same mentality 😂
@jon Aron
Thanks for saving me 200 bucks!
I broke a capacitor off the sync pcb part off trying to get the bottom off fuckkkkl
This save me 300$
Thank you for this!🙏🏼 fixed my xbox on my own instead of paying $380 to microsoft.
Mine doesnt power on. Where did you buy the PSU?
@@elscarface1 walmart/amazon online
@@elscarface1iFixIt sells a power supply for the series x, as well as ebay or Amazon. I had a local tech store order me one in for 75$.
@@thagerdorn2009 yup fix it al ong time ago
@@elscarface1 i’m about to attempt once the part comes in
I have a very important question just reply to my comment please
My power supply number was M1170449-004. My console was made in october of 2021 but my power supply was dated june 2021. My console was perfect until the other day i fired it up, started GTA V, franklin sat on the couch and started smoking, and as soon as he was high it just went black and never came back on.
yea you need to replace the power supply, same thing happened to me but in hitman 3
@@whiskeyTX no it's not always the power supply. Mine wasn't the power supply. Mine was a capacitor on the 12v power rail on the board.
Everything was going well until i got to the 3:35 screw, this screw is on so tight that it feels like they superglued the screw on, now the screw is stripped from trying to turn it hard, now the screw is stripped and super hard to get off, any recommendations?🥲😩
