My Next Quick and Easy 3 Yard Quilt Tutorial - the Town Square Pattern

- I am here to share my latest 3 yard quilt tutorial with you guys. I am going to use the Town Square design from the Easy Peasy 3 Yard Quilts book by Donna Robertson. I discovered her books and I fell in love. These are fun quilts with designs that look more complicated than they are to make. Well except the last one. And matching fabrics is one of my favorite parts of quilting. Donna Robertson makes it easy to create a beautiful quilt with easy directions. She has several books and she also offers the patterns individually. I have many more sets of 3 yards of fabric to make even more of these great patterns.
Join me as I walk through how I make the Town Square design from her book. I won't be sharing measurements as they are proprietary, but I can share how I put the quilt together. If you're a beginner or a seasoned quilter and just want some fun patterns - take a look at Donna's books.

This is perfect timing because I have this book and am going to make this quilt.
I've been collecting fabrics for 3 yard quilts and also all the books in the collection! I need to find fabric for a fish themed fabrics for my only remaing brother for Christmas.

Oh my goodness, I so understand your cat relationship!! When I sew I have to put out a faux/cat decoy fabric pile!! Then the kitties leave my actual project alone. Lots of one on one kitty time once I am finished sewing!! Live your videos! Thank you for sharing!

Donna Robertson has a RUclips channel. She will often do “pieces and parts” which is kind of a little mini tutorial
Focus on an easy one. As a new quilter, look both at the instructions ans the tutorials. They will give you confidence to proceed. I find it helps me to get the process deep in my thought process, and the I’m more confident to proceed. Once you do one , it become two and then three. Happy sewing!!!

I agree. I found these and I'm having a blast. I'm raiding a stash I never thought I'd be able to use up and they're great for donations! I can even machine quilt them because the sizes are easy to manipulate. My confession - I've bought all the books lol.

Thanks for the great video! Love the Jimmy Buffett sweatshirt and I think your cat had impeccable timing - she didn't cause the mat to slip, but she was there to comfort you while you were distracted. I started using a hand weight on the opposite end of my ruler when I make long cuts. I've noticed my ruler slips less now. Donna Jordan of Jordan Fabrics does that and its where I picked up that tip. Looking forward to more quilting videos!

I do the same thing, got the helpful trick from Donna of Jordan Fabrics too.
I sure like this quilt design and the Valentine fabrics. Love the colors of the turtle quilt. Gave me an idea that I could use many designs of theme collections I have for the main fabric (patriotic or Christmas or food) and keep the other two fabrics more of a tonal and consistent throughout.
I have two cats. I remember trying to hand mend my coat using a long thread with a cat on my lap. It was like I was dangling a string for the cat....the coat did not get repaired. 🙀
I understand. Oliver has a tendency to walk off with small tools. I find them on the floor nowhere near where they should be. LOL. Thank you for watching and commenting.

Oh, my gosh. My cat Sunny sprawls on the ironing board (with her head hanging off) at the MOST inconvenient times. You were admirably patient with Gracie when you were so frustrated with the cut. I Love Fabric Cafe's patterns, so far, have all their books. Their patterns are awesome, very well written. For beginners, use post it notes to mark which fabric is 1,2,3. I too make variances to the patterns, I make the top as specified, then I incorporate ALL the remaining fabrics into the borders. Since I prefer double bindings, I take the fabric allowance for the binding and use them for borders. If I want the top to be bigger, (longer or wider) i buy more of the fabric i want as a border for that reason. Good video.

I really like that pattern! You can really showcase a lovely print in the center, or even an embroidered piece. I also love the cat and have that same problem sometimes! lol

I'm a fairly new/beginner quilter and have a Donna Robertson's book. Love that the quilts are not complicated or huge. I am about to start this same quilt! My problem? Sorting through my stash of fabrics and finding the perfect 3.
Her books are perfect for quilters just starting their quilting journey. I love her patterns for those very reasons too. It is funny because now when I am looking for fabric - I buy in sets of 3 matching fabrics for her patterns! Thank you for watching. :-)

I love your quilt and your kitty I just started a 3 yard quilt. Brick Street quilt. My blocks are supposed to be 10 1/2" squares. I messed up somehow on cutting some strips short by 1/8". So I've had to trim all my blocks down to 10 1/4". Also somehow I cut a strip at 11" instead of 10 1/2". I thought I was being so careful. 🤨

I love that pattern block….. once you have done your quilt tops …. How do you do the actual quilting ??. Do you hand quilt or machine quilt ??? Xxxx
If I can’t do it with a machine I probably don’t do it. LOL. I machine quilt my quilts. I use either my finest machine to straight line quilt or I use my Bernina Q16 to free motion. Thank you for watching and commenting.

Love your channel. What do you do with all the 3-yard quilts? Are the 3 yard quilts big enough for a full bed size or twin. Can it be made into a queen size?
I give the 3 yard quilts I make away - LOL. I have a long list of family and friends that I want to make a quilt for and then I will give those left over to Project Linus or any other worthy cause collecting quilts. The initial 3 yard quilt is a lap size quilt. There are directions in the books on how to make extra blocks to make the quilts as large as a king size. I usually add borders of coordinating fabric to make mine bigger instead of making additional blocks. Either will work. They are so versatile! Thank you for watching.
