    The National League of Professional Baseball Clubs was founded just under 100 years after the signing of the Declaration of Independence. In other words, baseball has been played professional in this country for a *majority* of its history.

    Funny how at the beginning there was the Philadelphia Athletics, Boston Red Stockings, Chicago White Stockings, and St. Louis Brown Stockings in what was essentially the National League. All 4 names ended up in the American League.

      Giants & Dodgers are NL rivals & both moved to California in 1958. Giants moved to San Francisco while the Dodgers moved to LA.
      NY Mets colors (dodger blue, giants blk & orange) are a remembrance of the National League’s 2 original NY teams that moved westward.
      NFL NY Giants are named after SF Giants when the team was based in New York.

    I think it's about time for an expansion again. Six new teams, 3 in each league, 1 in each division.
    NL West gets a team in Las Vegas; NL Central gets a team in New Orleans; NL East gets a team Memphis.
    AL West gets a team in Portland; AL Central gets a team Oklahoma City; Finally, bring back the Montreal Expos and put them in the AL East.

    • @Carson_TK
      @Carson_TK 4 года назад

      Between 1871-1875, there was the National Association. It was basically the National League just with a different name. Most of these teams in the NA were eventually put into the NL like the Boston Red Stockings becoming the Braves. There were also some other teams at the time like the Brooklyn Atlantics who recorded a 2-42 record in 1875. Baseball was a weird sport back then, and yes, this is true.

    why was naming teams after socks so common

    • @dominicanball2361
      @dominicanball2361 2 года назад +2

      Thats because in early baseball days, it was common to name teams as **color** stockings, just because it was very popular. Then most of the teams names by stocking shortened its name to sox (Example: Chicago White Stocking -> Chicago White Sox) or shortened the name only to the color (Example: Cincinnati Red Stocking -> Cincinnati Reds)
