      @@DygmaLab @DygmaLab Hey, I like saddle chairs. You just need to add a lot of padding. I once saddled a rolled blanket on a leaning stool, and it was the best: It allowed me to lean forward with my whole body rather than at the waist, which increased my focus without hurting my back. I was quite comfy... until the rolled blanket got compacted by my weight into something less like a cushion and more like a piece of wood. I should try sitting on coal next time.

      In regards to what you mention for the mouse when you navigate, it might be the time to test a trackball or a vertical mouse when browsing. Since those intend to keep the hand in that position, it might feel more natural. It has a hand platform that forces use of the forearm/elbow to move the mouse (which then must be well supported, with a good table and chair). You said that using a trackpad makes your hand pronated, yet as an avid trackpad user, I may disagree with the statement. Using a trackpad my hand and wrist are in their natural, relaxed position, I mostly use an index finder(for moving a cursor around) and a combination with a ring finger(for swiping).

    • @DygmaLab
      @DygmaLab  Год назад

      What we've meant is that normally when using a trackpad users have their hands pronated, with the hand facing down.
      Unless you use the trackpad differently, with the hand as in a handshake position (which would be ergonomically better) and only touches the trackpad with the tip of your fingers. I've tried simulating that here and it didn't look correct 🤣🤣

  • @craigwarren
    @craigwarren Год назад

    9:44 I'm not sure this trackball "drawback" about sensitivity conflicts between large screens and precision work, is unique to trackballs. And even if it is more specific to trackballs, there are easy ways to circumvent this issue with basic hardware/software configuration which are natively built into many trackballs' basic infrastructure, to the point that it really shouldn't be a deciding factor in whether or not to get a trackball. At most, it's a deciding factor in WHICH trackball to get.
    Most trackball software (including general-use third-party ones) gives you options for how to customize acceleration curves so that the cursor moves farther across the screen when you move the ball faster, and less distance when you move it slower. With the right acceleration curves and a little bit of practice you can reliably fling the cursor all over the screen with quick flicks of the ball, then hone in on smaller, slower movements for those tasks that require much more precision. I know it's common for people to dislike acceleration with a conventional mouse, but it's actually very intuitive with a trackball due to the physical nature of how a rolling ball will travel farther when it's moving faster, which is different from how your brain might think about cursor movement when moving a mouse across a two-dimensional plane.
    Certain trackballs even give you extra DPI toggle buttons in convenient locations or software-enabled chorded actions that you can click to cycle between two user-selected sensitivity levels, so you can have a standard default setting for general usage situations, and then click a button (or chorded buttons) to be in super low DPI when you need that pixel-perfect, microscopic accuracy. It's akin to having a "sniper button" like you'd see on certain gaming mice. Not all trackball manufacturers give you these kinds of options, but I know from first-hand experience that Logitech, Kensington, and GameBall do.

    • @DygmaLab
      @DygmaLab  Год назад

      You're right, that's something we oversaw. Nonetheless, I think with trackballs you need to adjust your sensor DPI more. With mice you can do big and small swipes and be fast and precise. With a trackball you need to play with the sensor DPI.

    I tried the Logitech MX Master 3 and the MX Ergo Plus. I didn't like the Master 3 because the buttons felt mushy and were too easy to click (I kept clicking them by accident while resting my hand on the mouse), and I didn't like the Ergo Plus because using it put too much strain on my thumb. I settled on the G604 because it has six programmable thumb buttons and an internal memory that means I don't have to connect to G Hub every time I want to use them.

    • @DygmaLab
      @DygmaLab  Год назад +1

      That's actually a common complaint against silent mouse clicks, they can feel mushy and strange sometimes.

      Many do, yes. I know the Logitech MX Ergo does with the Options software, and I presume other Logitech trackballs like the M575 would as well, though I can't confirm this as I don't have an M575. KensingtonWorks (used for Kensington trackballs like the Expert, Slimblade, Orbit, Pro Fit, etc) gives you an option to set a chorded button press to enable a lower cursor sensitivity. The GameBall has a DPI toggle button that lowers the currently selected DPI by 1/3rd. If you're capable with QMK programming, I believe you can configure a similar type of DPI selector on any of the Ploopy trackballs, or at least the Ploopy Classic.

    Finger operated trackballs are just great for working with code! I have Kensington Slimblade Pro and Elecom Huge and they both great. I prefer Elecom, with balls mod it's super precise and smooth. I need to work more than 10 hours every day and trackball is great for me.

    well the "invention" harmed a lot of people so it makes sense that the guy did not make any money out of it.

      It does make sense, but considering how much it was used we would imagine that it bring some money to the inventor right?
      Many other worst things were invented and made their inventors rich 😂

    You forgot to include 3D mice.

    • @DygmaLab
      @DygmaLab  Год назад

      We didn't consider those because although they are called mice, they are not really a pointing device that can substitute a regular mouse. It's more a peripheral for 3D design.

    So the only solution that avoids pronation is the vertical mouse, but those are terrible for gaming. Maybe we have identified a gap in the current market? 🤔 Or is there no way to get around the straining pinch with vertical mice by nature of their shape?
    Also with trackballs, can you avoid pronation if it is a thumb trackball with a steep tilt? I'm thinking something like logitech's MX ergo, but I've just barely started to research trackballs so there could be other products I'm not aware of.

      Hi there, Dookie!
      Those are excellent questions, let's see if we can help you.
      Vertical mice should not be an issue for gaming, the problem is that gaming is, to some extent, a dfferent activiity than using a mouse. In regular use of the mouse there's no stress of performance, you can change liittle details of the selection and you can double-check before cliking. While gaming, time is of the essence, and we tend to trust our muscle memory. Since most people learnt to play on regular mice, gaming will be an issue, but it's jsut a matter of tiime until you get used to it.
      As for the trackaballs, models like the MX Ergo 575 help with pronatiion, but not as much as a vertical model. The good thing about trackballs is that they prevent movement from shoulder, elboy and wrist. If your problem is not related to pronation, but a problem with those joints, they might be the correct choice.
      In the end, itt's all about the user and it's needs, we, companies, can only provide options and information as honest as we can, then it's up to you to decide 😊

      Trackballs are great at avoiding pronation due to the fact that you can use them at virtually any angle, since the device itself doesn't have to move across a flat desktop like a conventional mouse. Many thumb-operated trackballs are specifically designed with vertical tilt in mind, like the Logitech MX Ergo, Kensington Pro Fit Ergo Vertical, Perixx 520/720, Micropack Vertical Trackball, and so on. But even then, you can set practically ANY trackball on a home-made wedge (I use rubber door stops glued together) to give your arm a more neutral vertical tilt. This applies to finger trackballs like many of the Kensington models, as well. On the extreme end, you can get handheld trackballs like the Elecom Relacon that you can use with your arm hanging down by your side, or resting in your lap, or whatever other position you find comfortable.

      Well, that's not how we would put it, it's that is complicated to find the perfect fit for your hand and posture. Designing these is more complicated than it is with regular models, that's why you have to pay more attention to the model you choose, but sure there's one that works for you!
