    "Cielo being Jamaican is a plot point"
    Without context that sounds weird, but certainly not out of the norm for an SMT adjacent game (there's stuff that I think was weirder).

    should be noted that characters that leave the party and come back are auto-leveled based on serph's level in addition to mastering whatever mantra they had equipped.

    • @yuzu7361
      @yuzu7361 22 дня назад +7

      Actually, the auto-level amount is determined by the average of the current party when a character re-join with the decimal rounded up. For example, if Heat re-joins when the current party of Serph, Argilla, and Gale being Level 16, 15 and 20, then Heat will be Level 17.

    Ah Cielo’s sudden Jamaican. It is always funny seeing people’s first time reaction. Cause it is all ‘WTF’. For me it is funnier because I flat out told my friend it is a plot point and they didn’t believe me. The only other time a voice reveal has honestly caught me off guard was Darth Sion from SW KoToR 2. Yet now I cannot imagine either without their iconic voices

  • @KimParkkinen

    The consensus between roguelike/lite is that roguelites have meta progression, as you said. Roguelikes are the games modelled after the OG Rogue, so when you die, you just start a new run from zero, they also more often than not have the same turn based movement/combat system the original game had. Roguelites are the games that take the procedural dungeon generation and the fact that the games are pretty punishing. But they tend to add metaprogression systems to make the games less punishing on the long run.
    In terms of the episode, for some reason I've always liked this zone in the game. The running around after the team rocket goons was always pain on this visit, but I really just like the aesthetic of this area. I *do* remember farming those mitamas/omoikane a lot here when I last played though. Haha!

    • @BigKlingy
      @BigKlingy  22 дня назад +4

      Meta-progression, I feel, fixes a lot of the issues people have with those games, the idea of a run feeling "pointless" if you die. Technically you get better at the game the more you play, but a lot of people like meta-progression to make it obvious that every run counts and you're never wasting time.

    Fog Breath is evidently one of the best skill to have and you can get it pretty early on the Demi Fiend himself. It's basically Masukunda but it hits twice and since buff / debuff stacks 4 time in Nocturne, you only need to do it twice to complete ruin the enemy's hit / evasion rate
    30:33
    What's strange about DDS 2 is that they changed it to 3 stacks

    As a indie developer that is currently working on a Roguelite, the popularity of the genre between developers is due to how convenient it is to make, as you can make a near-infinite amount of replayability with few resources, in contrast to making from the ground up the design and assets of various individual dungeons. Specially for indie devs, it is a lot more duable than a full-on RPG, for example.

    • @BigKlingy
      @BigKlingy  21 день назад +2

      That makes a lot of sense. Here though, I was talking less about full-on roguelike games and more about the tendency to insert Roguelike modes into non-roguelikes, like Splatoon 3's DLC, Xenoblade 3's DLC, etc. This seems to be common lately and I worry many examples are more cashing in on a trend rather than making something that works.
      Like "Roguelikes are popular now, so let's have our game do that."

    • @theodor3gabriel
      @theodor3gabriel 21 день назад +1

    If Gale weren't around, Cielo would be best character. They can share the title, in my opinion.
    0:36 Maribel base part 2, still uncharted territory.
    1:35 It just is a free heal.
    4:11 Darn it Serph you're too good.
    8:33 And said skill might be required to not explode on the literal same turn you can be slept...
    10:28 Hopefully our protable Karma Terminal doesn't get charmed... ever.
    14:36 Theirs are often better too. And they can even combo with themselves, sometimes.
    23:38 Floating monkey!
    24:06 Bayonetta would be proud. If she existed by the time of this game.
    24:56 I'd say you like all of Gale's animations. Which is a perfectly valid opinion.
    26:31 Speaking of points, that's what Argilla is doing on her revive animation. Like "oh you're paying for that"
    32:28 In usual Atlus superboss: "I dealt 0 damage and you didn't dodge. To the Game Over screen with you"
    36:11 A weakness: 134 damage. A raw ass Agilao from supermagic Serph: 239 damage. I know it's a medium tier spell versus a first tier spell but sheesh Serph. Relax.
    39:28 From watching one challenge run in which Demi Fiend is fought, they brought up a random Endure that Close Call guarantees, but also puts you back into human form. I guess it's that?
    46:16 Take a note of his tone here...

    I'm guessing the free healing terminal was to possibly avoid softlocks? with how expensive Mantras can get, it could be a possibility that you couldn't afford to heal after the game locks you inside a dungeon right after a boss, but it's just a random guess, that's oddly considerate of an SMT game

    • @BigKlingy
      @BigKlingy  22 дня назад +2

    7:32 It never gets old!
    10:47 It makes me think of Quantum Leap, which was a strange show about time travel. The main character happened to be religious, asking God to help him through his ordeals in the first episode, which isn't a bad thing in of itself, but in a later season it gets weird. Two damned souls from Hell are set free by the Devil to undo his work in one episode, and in an episode later than that, the Devil himself shows up and tries to kill him for "putting right what *I* made wrong." What's worse is that the Devil in this story is a shapeshifter (trying to kill him multiple times in this episode), and when he confronts the main character directly, he goes with the form of his best friend. His best friend walks in on this and is visibly horrified. After that episode ended, that's when I stopped watching the series.
    11:36 God dammit, Japan!
    24:55 First Gale gets a Mimicutie critical animation, and now a flip revival animation. He's quite the acrobat!

    0:51- Yeah, so long as it's new stuff to explore, than this revisit will be fine.
    3:31- Oh wow, even the mini bosses use combos too; Thought it would only be the bosses that could do it besides us. DDS living up to SMT's reputation for letting enemies mess around with the same tools as you.
    4:18- "And MORE HORSES! Or more like half horses I guess." - BigKlingy 2024.
    4:26- And her looks weren't even the scariest thing about her.
    5:06- Yeah that's cool too. Kind of reminds me of the villain second in command lady from the King's Men.
    5:58- That's really nice to know if you need to flee.
    7:33- "I don't often say this, but FRIKIN SEAGULLS!" - BigKlingy 2024/ BigKlingy getting the NJ Beach experience with Seagulls.
    8:41- Man, imagine in-universe being the guy who's being relied as a crutch to defeat a super boss because they have the worst luck. lol Something about that I just found amusing.
    11:47- The sheer fact is made a Speed Runner WASTE TIME just to show that off speaks volumes of its absurdity. Xp
    14:08- No, if it was a Seagull attack, they would be either swarming you because you dropped some food or them trying to dive bomb you for food. As you can tell by this remark and the 7:33 one, I'm not a fan of Seagulls.
    20:38- Correct. And then Hannuman evolves into Wu Kong/ Seiten Taisei. Another pretty good evolution demon chain to go after in Nocturne.
    27:13- Correct on that too.
    28:08- Also Fog Breath is disgustingly powerful in Nocturne too. It's expensive early on, but the fact you can get it on Demi relatively quick is very powerful.
    30:32- Oh, it's Nocturne levels of buffs/debuffs. Good to know since +4/-4 in stats is REALLY powerful.
    31:19- Eh, I'm still not really a fan of how V handled buffs/debuffs since not only were they single target without Ma versions, generally more expensive, AND wear off after a bit, but you can only go two levels of buffs/debuffs, which REALLY doesn't feel like too much until you get to late game stuff or that game's Demi fight. If just one of those things weren't there I'd mind it a lot less, but the fact it's a combination of all those factors kind of annoys me. I doubt Vengeance is going to change buffs too much, but I hope the next mainline SMT game goes back to at least the three layers of buffs.
    32:58- Wait really? Wow that was quick. I knew you said this was like a 24 hourish RPG (excluding the grind time for the Super Boss), but feels weird seeing us be in the mid game for a series only ten parts in.
    35:30- Interesting. Wonder what his OG role was going to be like in that draft though.
    42:11- Gale's revenge for deciding to use his "I do not comprehend" against him. lmao
    43:48- "... even though this is a horrible tragedy, I'm going to spin in circles..." - BigKlingy 2024.
    44:30- And there's been blood all over the floors here too inside this building as well.
    46:31- Ah, there's the title's namesake.
    46:48- Also I'm sorry, but meme culture has ruined mic booms for me and it's hard to take some parts of this scene seriously.
    47:23- Also here's hoping to go along with the Jamaican accent, his demon form gets to be the Grim Reaper. Xp
    In other news... While not much has happened (meaning no MD grinding sadly), I have at least finished up my 100% for TTYD Remake and my time with the game. Once people also finish it up by that much as well, I do have my Backloggd Review up and ready since late last night in case one wants to read it (but again, it's a review for those who've already got to experience everything the remake offers as so people don't get too influenced by my opinion of the game).

      The combos are neat especially since it was this playthrough that has helped me learn about them.
      I haven't seen many seagulls in my life since I haven't been to a beach often.
      He probably contributes with Debilitate too but having that poor luck too is pretty funny.
      Seiten Taisei is pretty strong but a young Hanuman tried to eat the Sun thinking it was fruit and also burnt down Lanka with his tail during the Ramayana. Hanuman is a pretty popular Hindu deity due to His many exploits.
      My brother played a decent amount of Pokerogue so I can see the appeal.
      I think in some SMT games when I have to choose what to buff and debuff, I like starting with Sukukaja and Sekunda.
      It didn't really bother me too much, maybe because I was used to how buffs work in Persona.
      He will make you comprehend his plans.
      I will be sure to read that once me and my brother make our way through the remake ourselves.
      As for myself, it might be easier to explain if we use a timeline of events. After replying to your comment last night, I decided to attempt the Laguna Seca 200 Miles and it took roughly 2 hours like I was predicting and my Viper GTS-R was more than strong enough for the opponents so it was an easy win and our prize car was the Ford GT40 Race Car which is a pretty historic race car considering they made a movie about the car's exploits called Ford vs Ferrari. After having my lunch, I thought I had some time to attempt my next endurance which would be the Tokyo Route 246 300 KM so I prepared my Mazda RX8 LM Race Car and once I felt ready, it was time to race. My race pace was also really good in this race so I didn't matter that I needed to pit more than my opponents since they were more conservative on their tyres. I also decided to be risky with my refuelling as I decided to refuel every three pitstops instead of every two pitstops which I had been doing for every endurance race before and I cut it very close but it worked out so that meant less time needing to refuel which I guess was nice. I was past the halfway point but then my brother told me to come upstairs since he needed to show me something so now it was time to see if save states during an endurance race worked properly which they did which is good for the much longer endurances. So I assumed my brother wanted to play the TTYD remake again but then I saw Three Houses on the screen and I was very confused since he doesn't even like Three Houses but all became clear when Sothis was replaced by Lord Gwendal and Byleth was replaced by Nemesis that he made a randomizer of Three Houses thanks to his powerful desktop. It was a very cursed play session with the three house leaders being especially cursed as Edelgard was replaced by Maiden, Claude was replaced by Hegemon Edelgard and then Dimitri was replaced by Young Dimitri whose personal skill was Twin Crests so he could move twice in one turn which is very funny especially considering this Dimitri doesn't even have one crest. He would pick Blue Lions because of that and the students are something as well, although a lot of them are very flawed units whether it is there growths or proficiencies being suboptimal. After that interesting sight, before my recording session, I finished the endurance race and won comfortably again with my prize car being a Mitsubishi FTO Super Touring Car. This was also the shortest endurance race so far as it only took around an hour and 40 minutes. Next time, I prepare and hopefully beat another endurance race.
      Also, my Paper Mario playthrough has started now and hopefully it will be a good one.

      @@BerserkerRohan In a similar spot since I only ever watched stuff related to the Demi fight, so I didn't even know about the combos.
      Yeah, Seagulls are pricks to put it kindly. If you ever watched Finding Nemo, the Seagulls there are only a slight exaggeration of what they're normally like. They'll take all and any chances to get food from people, whether it'd be dive bombing for something that just fell or even swiping done to steal food from people's hands.
      Again, the sentence of "he's good for a super boss because he has poor luck" is just funny to me for some reason.
      Yeah, I can see why Hannuman is popular if he has some crazier exploits like that.
      A good choice given how misses result in lost turns. I feel like I gravitate towards more attack buff/debuffs since rigging the DPS in my favor is always helpful. Though in a game like Nocturne, I'd probably lean more to the evasion stuff too.
      If you're more used to Persona, I guess you would be more used to V's stuff for that. Although from what I watched of Persona stuff, that one layer of buffs/debuffs still feels a lot more impactful than two layers of V's buffs/debuffs. Also I could be dead wrong here, but Persona buffs/debuffs don't seem as expensive as the stuff in V too.
      Indeed, Gale will make us comprehend even if he doesn't comprehend. lol
      Hopefully it'll be an okay read for you since I was a bit more critical compared to my other two reviews, but rest assured that I did have a good time in spite of my criticism.
      Great to hear you handled those endurance races well and won some nice cars. Although I do feel daunted hearing how the "shortest" of said races only took an hour and forty minutes. You certainly have more patience and determination than I do, that's for sure. But again, great work on that and hopefully the next endurance race will also go well.
      Also yeah, 3H randos always seems the most chaotic of the FE randomizers since there's a lot of unfitting characters to get for certain roles and some more absurd skills people can end up with not meant for the player's hands. Hopefully he does well in it since like you said, seems like he was dealt a rough hand with these units' potential and 3H is a game overly dependent on unit potential that you need to make work ASAP for the long haul.
      And here's good luck for the new LP and I'm sure it'll at least be a fun one for you given how much you enjoy Paper Mario.

      @@jaredfayette2567 I only really watched a Serph solo run so that was my reason.
      That is a movie I have a good memory of and I think I remember what you are referring too.
      He doesn't comprehend luck. Neither does my brother to be honest.
      Hanuman is really great.
      It will also depend on the situation but I felt confident in relying on the evasion and having security that my attacks will land.
      Buffs and debuffs still felt plenty strong in SMT V although that might have something to do with me being on Normal.
      As an example, Matarukaja is 30 MP in SMT V but 24 SP in Persona 5 Royal but I assume something like Debilitate would be a more extreme example.
      I wouldn't mind discussing those criticisms too, to maybe figure out if they may or may not bother me either.
      Having something to listen to in the back does help out a lot and they are still fun, mainly thinking about how long the tyres are going to last as well as the addition of fuel as well in GT4.
      Chaotic was one way to describe that play session especially considering some of the other things he decided to randomise.
      It is also nice to cover something entirely new on the channel as well.

    Maybe this is a hot take but personally I actually think the changes to buffs/debuffs in SMTV are pretty cool as well. At first I couldn’t stand it like a lot of people, but then I realized after my recent Nocturne run is that if the boss doesn’t have Dekaja/Kunda it’s basically GG, which for me personally while I like using them they are just way too overpowerd and more than break the game. It’s why my favorite bosses are always the ones who have Dekaja/Kunda.
    Tl;DR: Buff management is fun and engaging while fire and forget is bland and boring imo.

    • @BigKlingy
      @BigKlingy  22 дня назад

      Yeah I do agree with that. Nocturne is surprisingly easy to break as surprisingly few bosses have Dekaja/Dekunda, and the few that do will often only use it if you go to full stacks, so it can be avoided by leaving buffs/debuffs at +3/-3.
      It's telling that Lucifer is SIGNIFICANTLY harder in the Raidou version (vs the Dante one) because of one simple change: his Root of Evil attack now removes your buffs. (Also he Diarahans himself once, but the Dekaja effect is imo worse)

    So, if you're up against three of the same enemy and each of your characters successfully devours one of them, will that result in each character getting more Atma than they would by defeating all three normally? Or if you only had one unit would devouring give more Atma than defeating? Like, do devour skills increase overall Atma gained or just redirect it all towards the devouring unit?

    I value Sukukaja/Sukunda more for accuracy rather than evasion. My inner Pokemon player is always hesitant to use them because of the stigma against evasion in Pokemon, but then I miss two attacks in a row and go “Okay, fine! I’ll use Sukunda!”

    You found the Evil Spirt Club bad? The FOEs were a non-issue because they're all weak to light and you get Impure Reach on floor 3 which trivializes the dungeon even more. just to add insult to injury I think Ken gets Hama Boost too. I grinded in that dungeon because it was stupidly easy to get exp.
    The Clocktower, on the other hand, is annoying because the Reaper is a damage sponge. I think that's one flaw in the Q game. When you figure out how to consistently deal with the FOEs the puzzle is a non-issue.

    3:11 With so many colour code Solid members yhey could be a ranger team, Onigui Sentai Solidranger I shall call them
    5:14 On the other hand, my opinion on the demons forms goes more towards liking aspects of them like VayuKs cape but finding the overall design to not be my cup of tea. And I don’t think it helps that my two favourite Atma Avatar designs are ones that are only in the sequel.
    8:13 Quite funnily Steve Blum has played the Transformer character Shockwave before.
    9:08 Looking it up the Wall skills in Persona 4 and 5 are single target, while they can be annoying when used by enemies to cover weaknesses it doesn’t make it so the entire field cannot have their weakness hit, making it not as imperative to use a skill to break them.
    14:23 So we have a Flock of Seagulls, hopefully they don’t start singing.
    17:29 I have issues with that decision , not only is inaccurate as neither is a Shin Megami Tensei game. both Digital Devil Saga and Persona while using a lot of aspects that Atlus RPGs tend to share like skill names, they use the demon designs in some way but differ in a lot of ways. And with Persona especially, it is essentially its own series by this point, with its own set or lore that doesn’t work anything like SMT does, gameplay aspects like the Calender system… amongst other issues but that’s the most basic one.
    35:25 Maybe this guy defected to the Solids alongside Bat.
    Also Atavaka is a Demon/Persona that has grown on me a lot over time, albeit I tend to find its selection of skills tends to go too many places for my liking, Persona 3 Reload alone gives him Slash, Strike, Fire, Healing, an anti ailment skill, an Auto Ma skill and a defensive skill.
