It's an insanely popular speedrun despite being logically the antithesis to speedruns (the whole gameplay being RNG). I forget if it's RNG Manipulated or not, but I think not.
(Meanwhile the Pokemon TCG RNG manip speedrun spends more time in the tutorial than the rest of the game combined)

    • @KimParkkinen
      @KimParkkinen 8 дней назад +2

@@BigKlingy There are community accepted mods for certain categories of Forbidden Memories which make the RNG less of a nightmare and more of getting through the game as fast as possible (it still is not the shortest of the runs, even in the best case scenario) but yeah, the OG runs are pretty nutty.
RPG 100% speedruns tend to be pretty nutty for games that do not have that many glitches. Baten Kaitos 100% is particularly infamous since that takes two weeks of real time to complete and you can do literally nothing to expedite the process.
There actually are annual (RPG) speedrunning charity marathons known as RPG Limit Break (which ended not too long ago for this year) that focuses on RPG Speedruns (and those tend to be on the longer side) and another one known as "Really Really Long-a-thon" which focuses on extremely long, multi hour speedruns.
I've always found long speedruns super fascinating (and a great source for "walkthroughs" when it comes to being efficient with bosses and puzzles and us. lol)

I agree with a lot of the sentiment about game difficulty, but I think there's something to add: A lot more adults are playing video games now, and adults don't have as much free time as kids do. Thus, adults are less tolerant of games that waste your time.
On the one hand, games have gotten easier overall, but I'd say it's a good thing that _pointless_ time-wasting has decreased. Games don't force you to sit through drudgery or do repetitive stuff as much as they used to. E.g. the later persona games having fast travel doesn't really reduce difficulty at all, it just reduces having to walk around a lot.

    • @BigKlingy

It's also important to remember than in the early days of the PS2, not all JRPGs had a cutscene skip feature... and they often put long cutscenes in front of difficult bosses. It's why I ALWAYS recommend the later ports of FFX and Kingdom Hearts. ("There's no way you're taking Kairi's heart!" is burning into EVERY PS2 KH1 player's brain...)
Similarly, I like that most modern JRPGs let you retry boss fights instead of loading a save. It's the reason P3 Reload's Full Moon fights are allowed to be actually challenging now.

This is somewhat funny timing, since for reasons, I've actually been looking into the Ars Goetia more. It's definitely interesting to see the various details, like the more 'mundane' knowledge or how the morality is wildly different than you might expect. There's not really 'good' and 'evil' demons. Just 'obedient' and 'disobedient/malicious' ones.
Side note, I do in fact have a favorite. It's Caim (/Kyme/Camio. Ars Goetia translations.) Totally not because I might or might not rp them in a Fate rp I'm in. And also because of what FGO did with them in their very short screentime

One thing that's really nice about this game that I kind of missed from Nocturne: freezing or shocking an enemy removes any physical resistance they have.
Also I'm pretty sure physical null/repel/drain reduces hunt skills to 1 damage unless the enemy is frightened? I remember having to hama Girimekhala over and over and over before being able to devour him.

    MOTHMAN NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO-
I've always found difficulty discourse in Pokemon at least to be really stupid since... look at early-gen movesets. It's just that specific bosses in early gens were such massive outliers that they colored the whole experience, and even then several of them have conveniently placed resources to counter them, like the Trade Machop and Onix being obtainable before Whitney in GSC/HGSS. Later gens ALSO have outlier bosses like Totem Lurantis, Kukui, Leon, and ALL of Team Star, so it's probably not that Pokemon got easier, but people getting less tactically dumb.
Also, I beat Ninja Gaiden on the NES as a teenager, and that head-bashing took FIVE YEARS. Yeah no way in hell would I have time for that now.

Good timing: last night I got up to Mothman in SMTVV and found out IT HAS A SIGNATURE SKILL NOW! (A bit weird though, it's an auto-crit Force attack... to a RANDOM enemy.)
My whole take is, outside of Colo/XD which are legit more difficult than normal (though a lot of Colosseum's difficulty just comes from massive level jumps on late-game bosses), we were just kids back in the early gens. Gen 1 has X Accuracy working on OHKO moves as long as you're faster than the target. lol.
And yeah, for many old NES games the difficulty was the length. They're often barely an hour when actually beaten, it's just that it takes months if not years to git that gud.

Been busy with work lately, but your vids have been a great way to keep going :) so for some slight catchup...
Gale being the initial protagonist definitely makes a lot of sense during the Bat arc. The scene with Mick on the castle and the fight before Bat on the ship make it all but confirmed lol. Would've been interesting to see a rare SMT protagonist with a focus on Force, too. Feels like they usually lean towards phys/gun or fire. (Shoutouts to Naoya from Persona 1) Although thinking about it I suppose Ice is even more rare, lol.
I've always really liked the Tengu demons. They're all really solid in Strange Journey and Kurama is a very good midgame carry in Nocturne as you said. Decarabia is another one I just like a lot, feels like its solid in most games since it usually resists magic (moreso in the older games) and learns Megido & Tetrakarn. It'd be fun to make a list of all the demons that are just "pretty solid" in my experience.
...unfortunately I also know the feeling of compulsively wanting every centimeter of the map to be filled in lol. Especially when you know there's nothing there and you're missing a pixel or two, but it feels bad to *not* fill it out y'know.

      P3: Fire, P4: Elec, P5: Gun/Dark, DDS: Ice, SMT3: Phys/Almighty, SMTV: Elec.
Mothman and Black Frost also tend to be solid midgame Demons. (Black Frost typically nulling or better both Fire and Ice helps) I feel like Karasu isn't in many games and isn't used long when he is, though.

    Samsara Tunnel eh?
Speaking of Samsara, cycles of life and death. While I was watching Hector’s story of Fire Emblem Blazing Blade, I realize that he eventually dies due to his health being impacted. And his Emblem user in the Alternate Elyos is… Alfred (who dies in his Solo ending because of his illness).
Much like Céline herself has to take over when Alfred passes away, Hector became the new Marquess of Ostia after his older brother’s death. And as we see in the Alternate Elyos, Céline there is also… “brash.”
4:14 Funny thing is, I’m about to work on my Fell Xenologue analysis, so I was doing the same.
5:52 If he can’t have Sera’s 🤬, then Heat will have yours instead.
16:22 Or maybe even you could just ditch the Permadeath system altogether. Oh wait, that defeats the purpose of Fire Emblem.
Again, it’s that kind of mentality that enforces playing a game perfectly. And that isn’t fair to people who may lose a unit because of an unlucky Critcal hit or counter activations and the like. It’s why Fire Emblem never seemed like a fun gaming franchise for me.
16:46 speaking of which, look forward to the final Takaya fight.

It's funny that this video released today talking about difficulty in games discourse, because the Elden Ring DLC released recently and has become very divisive amongst classic Souls fans for its difficulty. There's a bit more nuance to that discussion than I'm willing to go into right now, but one thing I do find very funny is that game journalists -- the demographic constantly clowned on for allegedly being bad at video games -- got through that DLC just fine and have done nothing but rave about how good it was since launch, meanwhile long-time Souls fans who have bragged about their skill in Dark Souls are getting their shit rocked and they're complaining about it. It's to a point where some folks have already made difficulty mods for the DLC to make the game *easier,* one of which is ironically named "Journalist mode." Clearly these types of Souls fans are a bit lacking in self-awareness.

Regarding time sinks and whatnot mentioned throughout the video.
In another series I've played going back to it's mainline entries it had a system known as "Hunter Rank Points".
this system feels specifically designed in a way to artificially increase playtime, you cannot ever gain enough HRP to get onto the next rank even by completing all the quests given to you.
the creatures are all indentical in behaviour/attacks to what you've fought offline and have artificially inflated stats (some extremely so, jumping from around 2800 HP to 7200 HP is no joke).
There's a moment in it's very first iteration where'd id of had to perform the same 10 or so minute quest (I'm being generous here) 62 times in order to have the right to post the next tier of quests.
The non console versions all removed this system and funnily enough they generally outperformed their console counterparts.
I think as well as we age our time becomes more limited, so things deemed repetitive that aren't sending signals of progress to our minds turn us away.
It's no fun when your friend picks up 10 "rare" items that he doesn't need when you've fought 40 with him.
Furthermore even to this day in SMT there can be issues with time sinks or feeling like your time is being wasted.
I wish to specify in this example, I "could" have chosen to obtain the full magatsuhi bar or change off the base essence to not have a chance of instant death.
but when you're only losing to the encounter solely due to mudo luck or not wanting to sod about for mag bar due to minibosses/bosses massive HP sponges of SMTV, that there would likely be a quit moment for many people.

Once again back with another hot take buttttt I personally really miss when games were harder not gonna lie. that's one of the reason why the ps1-late ps3 era of games are my favorite timeline of video games.
Its a interesting to me when ever I hear people say "I don't wanna waste my time on a single segment of the game for 20 minutes", because for me playing video games is essentially a waste of time. its the thing I like spending my time on when ever I have a lot of it. I completely understand not everyone has the time or patience for "old school gaming" (I guess if you wanna call it that lol) but at the same time? picking MERCILESS in P3R and blazing through it without much trouble for simply putting a slightly competent persona build is simply in my honest opinion unacceptable. when you pick the hardest difficulty and the game never ever challenges you in the slightest or makes you think of at least a strategy or rub two braincells together then its just pathetic I'm sorry.
Obviously not every single game should become Dark Souls, not everyone wants to deal with that noise and rightfully so. but If you're gonna add a HARD difficulty then committee to the bit and make it HARD! yes make me spend 20 minutes trying to figure out how this boss fight works or how this dungeon works or whatever, because that's what I signed up for, don't make the boss last for 30 extra seconds because you increased his hp by 20% and called it a day.

On the topic of difficulty and respecting time, this made me think of the Battle Frontier and how they went from just Tower to not existing anymore because most players just don't want to invest themselves that deeply into the mechanics (that you kind of need datamined knowledge to optimize) and going for endless streaks. Now the endgame content of SV is just plain boss fights and event raids that have a finite end. And I guess shiny/mark hunting but even that's simplified.

    This is, a topic...
My personal feelings to put it in a summary are thus.
I'd like to see more challenge in games. The Indigo Disk had some really hard fights and I really enjoyed it, but I don't think difficultly is needed for a game good or even at bare minimum enjoyable.
I've seen defenses of difficultly in games and I agree with the idea of conquering a hard obstacle, but whether it be hearing what people said growing up or even seeing some games in the Pokémon ROM Hack community, there's a part of me that can't help but feel like there is a sense of elitism at play.
Frankly games that market themselves as being hyper hard don't really interest me all that much, and they usually have to have something to make me interested in it like the artstyle in the case of Cuphead. You could make an argument about Cuphead not being the best example, but I feel like I'm getting across what I'm trying to say

Don't worry, the pinball bit is completely understandable on why you got mad

Personally whenever I hear discourse about modern games being too "easy" it always reeks of elitism with a hint of Gatekeeping. It reminds me of those people who brag about play nothing but Souls Games or brag about beating Elden Ring on the highest difficulty. I agree that people just don't have the time to be smashing their heads against a wall for hours or even days on end, especially people like me who get frustrated when we keep dying/losing. If a game is entertaining and fun, who cares how easy or difficult it is.

4:55 Of note, this demon is in SMT V Vengeance and it has a sheen to its model that makes me think it’s model was ported from Nocturne HD, since Nocturne models tend to have a certain look to their textures that I can best describe as a sheen, to the point that Karasu Tengu looks weird compared to most other demons.
7:56 So we have an enemy which is a serpentine being who is made out of water in a dungeon associated with Water that is normally considered to be one of the more annoying dungeons, didn’t know that that kind of thing could happen twice.
The Digital Devil Saga Duology is also the last console game they where in, as his next original appearance is the MMO SMT Imagine which is a PC game.
9:29 The fact that Decarabia is also associated with precious stones is also the reason he is the mascot of the accessory shop Carabia in Tokyo Mirage Sessions.
Albeit I feel the reference would be weird in universe, a game that spins off from a series about demons where Decarabia is prominent, it makes sense to reference him out of universe but in universe it’s a reference to a demon from another culture that not many people are going to get the significance of
And tangentially, I wonder if Aimee is added to Fire Emblem Heroes she would share her Japanese VA with the shopkeeper of Carabia as said shopkeeper is based on her, as we have precedence for it, the Salesclerk of the Anzu Tokyo Store where you can but costumes and posters and the Waitress at the Cafe are based on Cath and Illyana, with the Japanese Va’s for those NPC also being hired to voice the character they are based on in Heroes.
14:51 I tend to find “Difficulty Discourse” annoying.
This kind of perspective tends to come from the fact that I wouldn’t call myself a casual at a lot of games I play considering how in depth I will look at a lot of things, but it’s rare for me for example go into things on the highest difficulty,
So while I’m not exactly a casual I do tend to be more on their side, and this is a kind of compliant that I feel tends to be coming from a smaller minority of people wanting gaming to be catered to what they like exclusively, hence making games harder. When the majority of people enjoying the medium, even those who want their games to challenge them in some way do want to have their games to be too hard
And it’s not like gamers that like games to be harder aren’t being catered too, there are game series tend to be harder than others like the Souls games, or a lot of Atlus RPGs, many games have difficulty selections with the highest difficulty being a lot more challenging than the previous difficulties
In addition to the idea that it is going to be inherently more frustrating to constantly fail the same thing over and over, but I also tend to find that their is a difference between something you have to do again that is harder than what you would manageable and something that is hard and not fun. Albeit what exactly counts for this is different between people, so designing challenging fights that aren’t frustrating can depend on various factors.
but I tend to not like it when I’m fighting a boss I constantly struggle with, For an example of a game that has both, Dragon Maleficent in Kingdom Hearts I is an example of the former, even when I first fought her I was having fun swinging at a dragon and dodging her attacks and I tended to get a fair bit in on my failed attempts , While when I first played I was being bodied by Giant Ursula often early into the fight. I feel that some would find both frustrating.
Another issues is that I feel in gaming circles its considered okay to complain if a game is “too easy” but not if it’s “too hard” a case where both should be equally valid but aren’t treated that way since it’s based on something subjective,
And in some cases, what is being added in newer games doesn’t make the games fights easier, but are more based on convenience, In this game allowing Mantra’s to be purchased through a Portable Terminal wouldn’t make the actual fights any easier.
Related to that, something I was comsidering writing at some point an artifice Analysing Boss Difficulty in Pokémon and how it has evolved. Since while I feel it’s a series that many would say has gotten easier over time, but it’s actually has nothing to do with how bosses themselves are designed for the most part.
Since I was looking at the original 8 Gym Leaders, moves that aren’t Normal and the Gyms Type are very rare, as are Pokémon not weak to the weaknesses of the Gyms type, While people like Brock Misty and Lt Surge are going to be made harder by the both the strength of their main Pokémon and your lack of options in some cases, but I find that if you have a dedicated counter to their type you can sweep them.
By comparison Bea, looking at her Pokémon, all being fully evolved Pokémon with good power and bulk, has a move that makes her Pokémon go last and if they are hit and survive, which they likely will is more powerful than Hyper Beam. She does have coverage moves on most of her Pokémon, while not covering everything, mainly none of them having Rock moves and only Pangoro having a Steel/Poison move she does have them, while being very soon after Kabu, as the route to her Gym is quite short but is around 10 levels higher, She had flaws in her team set up but has tougher Pokémon than
17:30 While that only took me two tries I did find hard the first try.
But in general I actually tend to not like a lot of mini games in JRPGs, not only because if I’m playing an JRPG I’m playing it for being a Turn Based or an Action RPG . Not another genre that I don’t like or tend to suck at,
But as you say they are also sometimes quite hard and are either required or sometimes lock powerful optional content behind it, like how I don’t like playing Card Games so Trails’s use of them in the Cold Steel games annoy me,

1:39- His signature skill? *Does some research* Huh... I was confused at first, but it seems like him having Samsara as a signature skill is a Persona thing mostly; He doesn't have it in the SMT games. In those, he's better known for Preach and ESPECIALLY Meditation. Weird that not only does that one skill you mentioned seem to be a Persona exclusive thing, but it means Daisoujou has THREE signature moves total, which is quite something.
5:56- Even in non-speed runs, it's a great demon in casual runs and one of the best evolution demons to invest into. MAN I wish SMT would bring back Demon Evolutions. They get screwed over in SMT IV/IVA (no where NEAR as good as they were good and only the Angel line was interesting for evolutions) and they're gone from V (and I doubt Vengeance brought it back). Evolution demons are so fun to use in Nocturne, so I wish more games did them and did them well.
13:11- Is it at least one of the speed runs that lets you take breaks in between or no? At the very least, there would be worse games to 100% for in a speed run setting, so it could always be worse than that...
16:30- So my thoughts on this are complicated a bit. I honestly do get where some of those criticisms come from. I do think there's a lot of games that play things a bit "too safe." Too many that are too afraid of letting the player to know it's okay to fail/ persistence can be a virtue. A good number of people's attention spans have dropped a lot and are sometimes at the point of where they'll raise hell at the slightest inconvenience to them when they play a game. And sadly sometimes that anger causes some games to simplify themselves to appeal to anyone, which in itself hurts the quality of some games. It kind of ties into the issue I've talked about before how I feel like good dungeons aren't appreciated enough in this day and age and how I hate a lot of the "hallway dungeons" for being boring and simple to appeal to others instead of taking risks. I do agree that can be a problem with games in this era. However, whoever you're talking about are using the worst frikin examples if they're saying P3R is one of those games, especially if we're talking about Merciless where you've shown it's not afraid to give you a challenge. While I think there is a present issue of some games being too simplistic/ limited for the sake of trying to appeal to many more people in what you said is a competitive media environment, I do think we're at least course correcting away from that. I feel like the last few years in games have been good with bringing about games where it's okay for the player to fail and try again so they can improve and actually feel satisfaction for overcoming something difficult. [EDIT: Was mainly for spelling fixes at first, but others in the comments brought up something I should make note of too. This is more of a concern of game design, not of accessibility; I'm fine with games being accessible as I always welcome new people into the hobby. Just so long as a game/series doesn't compromise its identity or game design philosophy to appeal to the largest possible crowd or as I said earlier, to play it "too safe," then I'll be fine.]
17:35- Yeah, the pinball stuff is just stupid. There's a difference between letting the player fail & try again and making the player repeatedly fail at a sudden genre shift that demands a high barrier of entry to pass. If that came in a pinball game, that would be fine, but in Sonic Frontiers, that score should have been WAY lower, no more than a million at most, maybe even 500K. That honestly reminds me a lot of the Path of Pain in Hollow Knight being the genre shift section of that game that completely killed all and any interest I had in finishing the game or seeing its hardest content (and that's after I did manage to beat PoP, but it just made the entire feeling playing that game so unfunny even though it was over), but at least that was an optional thing. The fact the pinball was mandatory with such a ludicrous score requirement (AND needing to shoot up to the exit too) is stupid.
In other news, first to explain why I have few talking points today, playing more of Vengeance. Decided to do my little plan of alternating between it and Master Duel instead so I can stay ahead of an associate of mine whose streaming the former so I won't get spoiled. Having some more fun as I just got done something new. Going to hope to reach more new stuff soon.
As for Master Duel... Plot twist, I'm actually having fun again. The 2010 Try Out Duels are great. I'll admit to some bias as I've like a 9/10-1 win to lose ratio at the moment, but even disregarding that, this mini event is what I needed to both refresh myself and the thing I needed to make my grinding in the game suck less. The format is great, which makes me annoyed this is only a mini event lasting until the end of the 27th this month. As for what I'm playing, I've made three decks, but the one I'm using now is a fun Six Samurai Deck I made on the fly and I'm having a good time with it. Hell, even the one lost I took was a fun match that didn't feel like BS and more so my opponent just playing better than me. I still have lots of grinding to do (only 65/100 at the moment), but it'll be a fun grind. In addition to my Six Sam Deck, I want to try the other two out and mess with the loaners for this event as they're the Hero Beat and Quick Draw Dandy Decks from Edison Format. So yeah, I'm actually having fun in Master Duel again!

I guess that is what happens when you are a notable boss in Nocturne.
It does sound like a fun mechanic to mess around with in Nocturne so I wish we could see it being better in more games.
Apparently a 100% Gran Turismo 4 speedrun takes 9 days and 14 hours so it was split between four people.
I feel like a disagree with the take about P3R being too easy as well after seeing some gameplay of it. Sure, it is going to be easier than FES and Portable because of the new quality of life changes but I bet it still feels just as engaging which is the more important thing here. I still haven't seen all of Reload yet and we will see how I feel about Theurgy later as well.
I am starting to see the appeal of trial and error gameplay again due to the Gran Turismo 4 license tests since some of them are very difficult and may take me multiple hours to beat just one test but I feel a lot of satisfaction after conquering a test that gave me so much trouble and I also feel like my gameplay is more attuned to think about optimal braking points and hitting the apex of a corner as well. This is a 2005 game so it makes sense why the license tests are like that and I was surprised by how okay I was considering I don't normally like doing super hard things.
Sonic does have a shaky reputation with genre shifts ever since Sonic Adventure 1.
I wish you the best with making more progress with Vengeance in that case.
Good to hear that Master Duel is fun to play again and I can see myself enjoying seeing that Six Sam deck in action considering that it does seem like a fun archetype even back then.
As for myself, still need to find time to play GT4 but my brother made progress with the Three Houses Randomizer which included getting his dancer who turned out to be Fleche, who replaces Annette, just because her speed has been really lacking and she has been mostly doing support roles outside of that. Also, she has some very impressive charm as well. We also learnt that Tomas, who replaces Seteth, also has Twin Crests as his personal skill after playing his paralogue so alongside Dimitri, we potentially have two units who basically have a better Galeforce, especially considering the extra turn gets refreshed if you dance them as well so with one dance alone, Dimitri can move four times in one turn as a 9 move Wyvern. The next story map was pretty easy but unfortunately, Nemesis' dad, Lord Lonato was killed by someone impersonating Edelgard. I also find it very ironic that Monica was replaced by Edelgard. Later, we also see that Male Byleth replaces Thales while he was having a chat with Lambert and Edelgard. Next will be another paralogue, this time is what is normally Catherine and Ashe's paralogue but we are protecting Nader who replaces Rhea and the church isn't called the Church of Seiros anymore since it is actually the Church of Rodrigue and every mention of the name Seiros has been replaced by Rodrigue which is quite funny.

@@BerserkerRohan On one hand, makes sense when you say it like that, but even so, you'd think the multiple signature skills would go to more universally recognized SMT demons first before him at least.
Again, it's such a fun mechanic as it leads to many good and powerful demons while making you more carefully weigh when to fuse demons.
9 and a half days?! Between four people?! That's... A new frikin record for absurd speed runs. Hope all those that take part in GT4 ones take good care of themselves during and after such a run.
There's that as well. Anything that did get makes easier from the looks of it seems to be a result of QoL changes rather than dumbing anything down. And most of the difficulty changes they did make were for the better of making things actually more challenging for those who want it. Admittedly some of the Theurgies can be quite powerful (and broken in the case of Scarlet Havoc) as I'm watching Klingy's P3R streams, but not enough to damper the difficulty of Merciless by an oppressive margin. Again, I get the arguments being made, but whoever Klingy was mentioning just picked the worst frikin examples.
In spite of the massive time commitment (at least for me since some races seem absurdly long), I'm glad GT4 didn't wear you down and instead constantly rewarded you for pushing further. And yeah, that's what I'm talking about; Games shouldn't be afraid to let you lose. Sure it sucks, but failure can push you to be better and to improve yourself, and it's that drive that makes overcoming obstacles in games so fun and rewarding. And a game doesn't even need to be overly hard, it just needs to incentivize you to push beyond the barriers it places so you can have a meaningful experience.
I can kind of get what you mean with some mini games and mid-game shifts, but I feel that at least most of those other brief pig-game genre shifts in Sonic aren't either that bad or optional for those who just want to see the end without full/near completion of the game's content; The pinball thing in Frontiers just sucks since it's ludicrous, even compared to those other genre shifts. Also not mentioned in the video is how you only get like two or three balls with no backups/ ways to get more, anytime a ball falls you lose the current score multiplier (which is NEEDED to get to 5 million or even see some shred of progress), AND your score will reset if you lose them all. Again, that pinball section just sucks and I honestly don't blame Klingy for getting annoyed with it.
      Many thanks.
At least fun for a tiny bit. Also yeah, Six Sams are a fun deck to mess around with. Which is weird for me since they're kind of one of the first notable starters of "a million special summons per turn" in Yugioh if they get their more insane resource loops in place, which should make me hate them, but they're really fun to mess around with instead. Again, just sucks this brief moment of respite and fun will only last for two more days (one of which I'll be busy with IRL stuff too).
Oh boy, more chaos. Good to see your brother found a dancer, just hopefully Randolph doesn't mind his sister dancing for the whole army. *Next up, my honest reaction to Tomas in your brother's run* Are you sh- You got to be kidding me. lmao *End* Yeah, your brother is just going to be able to trivialize any map now with that pair. My goodness... Also, yeah now the story is becoming complete nonsense now; I could justify Miklan Ferdinand and Mad Scientist Hanneman, but now I have no idea how to justify some of these crazier picks by the randomizer. *Read the last bit* Wait what? If Nader's Rhea in this, then why is it call the Church of Rod- WAIT... If all character changes apply to each route the same... Does that mean when Rhea embraces her identity as Serios in CF, does the game treat them differently even though they're the same person? Is that why Rodrigue is Serios? Doesn't that make Nader frikin transforms into Rodrigue on CF? If so my goodness, lmao.

@@jaredfayette2567 Outside of Nocturne, not much goes on with Daisoujou so it is interesting that they gave him Samsara.
I do hope some future SMT game brings it back.
There is a reason why there is only one 100% speedrun of GT4 that has been listed.
I did also hear that Tartarus is generally going to be easier to explore since it is a lot easier to avoid random encounters but that doesn't really sound like a deal breaker to me either.
I think one reason why GT4 is considered one of my favourite games is that it is one of few games to help me push me further with its license tests. I don't have to get all Gold on them to get to 100% but the satisfaction I do get for conquering them is hard for me to replicate.
Getting a combo that high sounds annoying in any game but also having a completely different style of gameplay to go along with it does seem very dumb.

Mara is from Buddhism though, so it doesn't get a Goetia number.

Honestly on the topic of difficulty in games, I'm firmly of the camp that Nocturne "HD" shouldn't have gotten a Merciful mode. Game is supposed to be hard. You don't like it, you can play on Normal. When Merciful mode neuters Matador's boss fight to the point where game journalists, most of whom are known for being complete idiots and rate games poorly because "GAme's ToO HaRD 🤪 DURRRRR", can beat him without buffing with Sukukaja and debuffing with Fog Breath, there's a problem. When the boss fight that is basically your tutorial on YOU BETTER USE BUFFS AND DEBUFFS can be cheesed with baby mode (the urge to call it something else.. 🐈‍⬛ mode is strong) there's a problem.
Some games are MEANT TO BE HARD. You can't just make a mode that lowers enemy encounter rate and boosts macca and exp earned by 3X and expect people who played the game to not feel betrayed. I remember when Japanese journalist footage was on RUclips and they were damn near lv 20 fighting Matador and they just auto battled him to death. It was a sick twisted joke.

The funny thing is, Normal is secretly an Easy Mode since it halves all damage taken. I don't like that Hard triples shop and compendium prices though.
Granted, I'm okay with these modes existing as long as they're optional. Some people just want to experience the story (though that's imo really not why you should be playing Nocturne). Also, people need to stop using "game journalists" as shorthand for people who suck at games.

@@BigKlingy I just don't understand the point of Merciful if Normal already halves all damage taken...

@@psirockin2251 There's also Safety in Persona, which is pretty hard to die in without trying (and sometimes you can't die, period). These modes probably exist for people who just want the story. Again, as long as they're optional I'm fine.
