  • When I was a child, my dad used to grill up cheeseburgers on the pit. His method of seasoning the burger patties generously with seasoned salt (probably Lawry’s) and basting them with barbecue sauce made for a uniquely special taste. It’s that special taste that I wanted to recreate and maybe even improve on with my Classic BBQ Cheeseburger recipe. This one is an ode to my father and a celebration of all the special moments I had with him, including enjoying his smoky BBQ cheeseburgers.

    • Heath Riles BBQ Beef Rub bit.ly/37herYH
    • Heath Riles BBQ Sweet BBQ Sauce bit.ly/3e7aaKb
    • Goldens' Cast Iron bit.ly/3HQ0tyB
    • Royal Oak Charcoal amzn.to/3ua1g8W
    • Thermapen www.thermoworks...
    • Thermoworks Silicone Brush www.thermowork...
    INGREDIENTS:
    • Heath Riles BBQ Beef Rub
    • Heath Riles BBQ Sweet BBQ Sauce
    • Beef patties
    • Sliced onion
    • Sliced tomato
    • Pickle chips
    • Sliced American cheese
    • Hamburger buns
    • Lettuce
    • Mayo
    DIRECTIONS:
    1. Get your grill up to temperature of approximately 400º. Create a 2 zone fire.
    2. Flatten out your ground beef into patties and season one side with Heath Riles BBQ Beef Rub.
    3. Place your patties seasoned side down on the cool zone. Season the other side with Heath Riles BBQ Beef Rub. Cook for 10 minutes.
    4. After 10 minutes, flip your patties and place them on the hot zone of your grill for about 5 minutes.
    5. After 5 minutes, move the burgers over to your cool zone and baste both sides with Heath Riles BBQ Sweet BBQ Sauce. Let them go for about 3-4 minutes so the sauce can caramelize.
    6. Place sliced cheese of your choice on your burger and let it melt. Once the cheese has melted, remove the burgers from the grill.
    7. Assemble your burger however you'd like. We used pickles, onions, tomatoes, lettuce, mayo, and some Heath Riles BBQ Sweet BBQ Sauce drizzled over the top.

Hearing you talk about your dad put a smile on my face thinking about mine. His burgers were nowhere near as good looking as yours, but it had me smiling none the less. Thanks for another great video!

Not sure how long your dad has been gone, but I know he is super proud of everything you've done. I've got great memories of my dad cooking burgers or ribeye's out on the gas grill in the garage for Sunday lunch after church. Usually using salt and pepper or maybe McKormicks. Simple, but always turned out so good.

I'm going to try this next time I grill burgers. Which, this time of year, will probably be tomorrow. One thing I like to do is make onion rings and put a few on top.

My dad use to make ribs on a small charcoal grill. They’d have char marks and were stuck firm to the bone. He would take the bones and put them back on the grill to loosen up the meat still on them.

I’ll be trying this using my two pellet smokers. One of them is more direct fire so I can sear the burgers off on that! Now I just need to head out to Michigan BBQ Supply and get some of your beef rub! Thanks for the great content!

I've been using the beef rub on burgers lately.
It is really really good on burgers even so when cooked on a cast iron grill as well as bbq'd

Might I suggest cooking the onions instead of putting them on raw. The acidity of raw onion can really ruin a good burger.

    • @HeathRilesBBQ
      @HeathRilesBBQ  2 года назад +2

I like raw onion. Like I said in the video, build your burger however you'd like.
