I was taught to always put the plug in the drain before unscrewing the tap, just in case the screw drops in the sink. 😉
Good advice. You definitely dont want to lose the screws! Thanks for your comment 👍
How do you find the correct valve you need
Good question. If you find the manufacturer you can normally find the correct size from there website. However i find most kitchen mixer taps are 1/2inch with and these normally fit amzn.to/3GNx6hi.
Yes, that's a good tip.
@patburke5740 thanks for your comment 👍
Another brilliant video mate, keep up the good work.
Hi, thanks for your comment 👍 I'm glad your liking the videos!
Great pressure in the hot tap, never been that lucky.
Hi, the reason for that is the new combi boiler in the kitchen so the hot water is at nearly the same pressure as the cold water. Thanks for your comment 👍
@@FixitwithFowler my combi is in the loft.
@markvincent5241 This combi is in the kitchen, but mine is in a bedroom cupboard upstairs, and the pressure isn't great
take it you used new washers young chap, good vid by the way👌
New washers? They are ceramic tap glands, so they don't have washers, unlike the older style. These tend to last longer but are still affected by the build-up of limescale!
ok didnt know ,thanks for reply@@FixitwithFowler
@clivedewhirst no problem at all!
Good video Steve. The stop cock under my sink shuts off the cold supply but how do you stop the hot water ?
Hi mate, do you have a combi boiler?
No mate, hot water tank.
Ok, mate, if you dont have isolators under the sink, then you need to drain the system down to replace the hot cartridge side of the tap. However, you could just try the cold side first, and then you would only need to turn the stopcock off.
Might be a 5 minute job to replace the valve, but takes a lot longer than that to find the correct replacement, with all the different sizes available. Probably easier to simply replace the ceramic discs themselves, assuming they are a standard size?
Yes, you could just replace the discs. However, if you remove the valve and take it to a local screwfix or tool station, you can get a pair of valves for under £10.
@@FixitwithFowler Thank you. Indeed you can, but they come with different spline heights and number of spline teeth. Last time I wanted to replace a ceramic valve I ended up getting new taps, because I couldn't find an exact match for the valve itself. Frustratingly I didn't know at the time that the discs could simply be replaced.
