So many gorgeous dolls and the music transports us right back into the era. I wonder ife people, in 40 years, will look at today's Barbies the way we look at the Superstars. Probably not.
Thanks so much for commenting... That's a very interesting question! I also wonder what we will make of today's Barbie 40 years from now. I do remember when Superstar Barbie debuted back then and she was definitely the Barbie doll to have... so shiny, new and exciting! I also wish I bought more of that era when I started collecting over a decade ago as it was relatively affordable back then! LOL
In a documentary that I haven’t found online again in ages…Mattel explained how the mid 70’s dolls were not selling too well until Superstar Barbie came along and saved the brand. Taking in consideration that Barbie looked like this for 20 years explains a lot.
Yes, I remember when she was first introduced... she was so new and exciting! Whoever had her was the envy of the playground. She also looked more of the time, what with shows like Charlie's Angels on the air, Studio 54 and disco on the airwaves. Lots of collectors say she was inspired by Farrah Fawcett, but I also see a lot of the big models of the day in her, like Cheryl Tiegs, Patti Hansen, Kelly Emberg and Christie Brinkley.
I ❤️ the Superstar Era it’s my absolute favorite. I wasn’t born yet , but to me this is when Barbie went from fashion model to celebrity status ⭐️ She looks more expressive and “alive” than ever before. Plus I vibe with all the halter necklines, backless, high slits, strappy high heels and long flowy hair 🪩 it’s a classy type of sexy.
Thanks for commenting! I actually started buying 'real' Barbies (as opposed to cheap clones) when Superstar first debuted, and I still remember the excitement when she was first released. She just seemed so shiny and new, and more up to date. Whoever had her was the envy of the playground! I remember my good friend Kerry had one before I did, but it drove me crazy as she NEVER dressed her up or bought any clothes for her... she rarely even brushed her hair! She just stayed in her original outfit forever. Now I know lots of NRFB collectors who would applaud this nowadays, but I was ITCHING to play with her and dress her in other fashions! LOL
Thank you! 😃 So do I! I was a kid back then and it was a wonderful time to be one back then. (Though I do wish I was old enough to have gone to Studio 54! LOL)
Thanks so much, Deany... glad you liked this!!! Nope... haven't unboxed Fab Fur yet. I will probably do a video of that one day if I ever get around to it. 😜 Since I can't afford to buy anything anymore, I will do it when I start to get withdrawal symptoms! LOL
Was that Beauty Secrets Barbie with the sash a special edition? I have the Pretty Reflections set but I'm not aware of a sash being involved in any special versions.
@@fashiondolldreamer Wow what an amazing piece to have! Do you still have a holy grail you're trying to get your hands on? I've always wanted the 1977 Superstar Barbie and Ken Gift Set (#2422) but it's sooo rare and hard to find. Not sure if I'll ever get it but I'm happy with my MIB regular Superstar Barbie lol

These are always one of my favorite era's of Barbie dolls history. In my opinion it was the "rebirth" of Barbies world.

Yes, good spotting! She was the convention gift from Mattel at the very first official Barbie convention that took place in New York back in 1980.
