    There’s a lot to unpack. First, Will and Jada allegedly had a open relationship for the longest time, but was something they slowed down on as their kids got older. The big rumor is that Will had his thing with Eva Mendes during the filming of Hitch, and with Margot Robbie during the filming of Focus. And that may be the one that set Jada off. Then there was Jada’s thing with that August dude.
    On top of that, there’s Jada’s Red Table Talks where many people say she straight up disrespects Will. Off the top of my head, the one where she spoke on her feelings for Tupac was the biggest one. So many people online said that Will took a massive L marrying Jada. So many people saying that he took a massive L screwing up things with Shree, his first wife and mother of his oldest son.
    Then there’s his kids and people saying that he’s a failure as a man and a father. “Look at Jaden wearing a dress. What the hell is wrong with Will for allowing that?” Or when Willow was hangout with Tyler the Creator when she was 11. And apparently Jaden and Tyler have their thing.
    Then on top of that, there’s Will’s, “And this is partly his creation,” magical negro status. He’s the safe black guy. He’s not the guy you see with an attitude or getting into shit. He goes high instead of going low. So people are rather taken aback when they see someone like him do something like this.
    This isn’t a defense, but he’s still a human, who is online and hears all this stuff about him. On top of having to experience and deal everything on a personal and family level. I think it was a huge overreaction, and he should have spoken to Chris Rock behind the scenes. But everything I’ve heard Smith say over the years tells me that he is going through some shit, and has for a while. I’m not totally surprised he did it.
    And like how Chris Rock joked about OJ, “I’m not saying he shoulda did it, but I understand why.”

  • @BlazerRox
    @BlazerRox 2 года назад +39

    He definitely did it just for Jada. If you watch the replay, he laughed hard at the Joke, while not noticing that Jada was rolling her eyes and visibly upset. He was fine with the joke until he saw she was upset, and then he became enraged. Chris Rock did a great job at staying composed, keeping his hands behind his back, and moving on with the show. I don't fault Chris Rock for the joke, other hosts including Amy made fun of others in the audience, this is what comedians do.

      @Denzel Amaniampong how is it flawed?
      Most of you WILL forget about this in three months as you’ll only be remembering it as a meme, where as will and Chris are going be remembering this for much more palpable reasons
      Unless you agree with going up on stage in a public platform and assaulting people based on loose wording that describes your attire or look? (a thing humans have done since before “stand up” and don’t need a stage for)

    • @Lurkai
      @Lurkai 2 года назад

      @Denzel Amaniampong you’re gas lighting and your logic good sir is flawed as well
      At no point did I say I would let any man or women talk shit on my s/o OR call out that the specific joke Chris said at the potential expense of someone’s physical/mental condition was okay.
      I literally said you guys (the people who literally were not at the Oscar’s and honestly shouldn’t care about this) will forget about it. Because you always have and always will. Humans could care less about their world and its issues unless it gives them a spotlight to “shine” and look pretty….like you’re doing now.
      You don’t appear any bigger or more “right” by injecting false narratives into my “logic”. It’s like me saying
      “Well I guess you approve of violence any and everywhere and we should all beat up people who talk shit”
      Because y’know Americans already don’t have a terrible rep when it comes to handling situations with violence. But from your take it seems you’re in favor of violence vs trying to be diplomatic first…am I correct or do you have other points about this non-issue that shouldnt concerns us you’d like to bring up?

    • @Lurkai
      @Lurkai 2 года назад

      @Denzel Amaniampong Firstly, don’t assume anything about me and I won’t assume anything about you. The only reason I assumed you prefer violence is because you seem adamant to defend wills actions…which were quite literally violent in nature.
      If you can’t separate the facts from your feelings then my buddy…your logic will always be slightly flawed because it will be based on how you feel and not the evidence presented before you.
      Dude straight up assaulted another human being, plain and simple, no way around it…go ahead and attempt to defend that in court.
      That’s a whole other discussion I don’t want to get into because frankly..it’d be a short one. Will would either spend time in jail or pay some settlement….thankfully Chris is an understandable person (unlike yourself it seems) and didn’t press charges because he knew Will was upset at the joke and not him.
      you good sir, hypocritically wrote your own essays after inserting yourself into a comment thread defending a celebrity that both of us will never truly know, just know of them and the news surrounding them. Going into my second point that us “normal” folk really shouldn’t concern ourselves so heavily with the celebrity nonsense. Granted it happened in a venue that ANYONE can get into so it’s not like it’s closed off to any one of us…but are any of the two of us really going to be invited to the Oscars next year? Probably not..so imo, no need to expend any more energy on it. Though I get it…the topic makes for good (and bad) discussion..it’s just not very productive aside from the obvious thing you’d say which is- “don’t slap people and don’t say bad things about people”….pretty common sense I’d say
      I also get that you are passionate about the idea of defending your partner and I DO agree with you that jokes made at the expense of someone else’s mental or physical condition are off-limits(at least for sensible people)
      However in todays world, it’s common sense NOT to assault someone publicly or in general JUST because they say something you don’t like.
      If you decide to do that anyways, then you obviously have some other things going on in your head that push you past the point of common sense.
      That was my original point and I literally have no idea why you focused on my comment or how you viewed that as “flawed” or had to make a deal out of it. You could’ve provided a more open discussion and explained your reasoning as to why I was “flawed” from your viewpoint..but instead came off incredibly presumptuous and dismissive. In my opinion…
      While I’m sure we could’ve gotten off to a better start, i see that your way of thinking and how you are as person wouldn’t mesh with me, so I’ll end it here on my end
      You have a good day and please, please think logically before you potentially physically assault someone for saying something out of term about you

    He has tarnished his name and his Oscar win over what? A JI Jane joke? This is what the academy paid Chris Rock for. He is paid to make jokes at the expense of the crowd. Let’s not pretend Jada has cancer. She has an autoimmune disease that causes her hair to fall out. If she is that sensitive then wear a wig. She can afford it. She can rock the bald look, so rock the look.
    Will needed to be escorted out and he needs to be stripped of his Oscar. The Oscars are a joke and a bunch of hypocrites. Where was the security? It’s because it was Will Smith that nothing was done.
    What if a female made the same joke? Would Smith smack her? Why are we pretending that this was remotely acceptable? This wasn’t him standing up for her. If this was my husband I would be mortified. He is behaving like a child, and if people condone his actions then they are not mentally grown. You don’t assault someone (yes, this is assault) due to a lame joke.
    Will should have had words with Chris after the show. There are better, more mature ways to handle this. Will is unstable. He clearly has issues and I think this joke was the “final straw” on a dumpster fire of a relationship Will and Jada are in.
    Bottom line is this was unacceptable. Period.

He's been embarrassed by Jada over the last 2 years about her love for 2Pac so unfortunately Chris Rock caught the end of it all but it was unnecessary

    I would definitely not say he could have killed chris that be a over exaggeration but assault yes. And he got to just get away with it. When in reality he should have been escorted or a bodyguard should have got him out. Like can celebraties just do this? I don't think he needs to lose his oscar but he definitely should have gotten stopped or just straight get send out and receive his oscar later or something.
    No comedian should get slapped on their job. If you wanna fight them go search them up in real life and run a fade or something but not on their job. On their public job they should be safe. Even in a private job they should be able to be at ease.

    Gonna drop a little bit of context about Will and Jada's marriage: They have had an open marriage for a very long time. Whatever happened with them publicly coming out and discussing the issues with Jada and August had to do with Jada violating the terms (whatever they are) that they had set regarding the rules of their marriage. Non-monogamous relationships have rules, just like any other, and the events with Jada/August clearly affected THEIR relationship and you're right: we don't know what else goes on behind closed doors. People should step off Will in that regard. We all have shit to deal with, and the man's only human. Rich and famous or not.

    I honestly feel like Will's reaction is 100% understandable, I don't think he should have gone up on stage and hit Chris Rock across the face but I completely understand why he did. And I don't think Chris was trying to be malicious with his jokes or anything, you know you're up on stage you're kind of ad-libbing and a joke doesn't exactly go how you planned maybe it's not as funny as you thought it was gonna be or maybe it comes off meaner than you thought it did. I don't think either of them are really fully in the wrong it's to messy of a situation to call one person wrong.

He needs help and Chris Rock should be okay. His shows are selling/majority of people are on his side.

Some of us might think it’s as non insult joke but we can say the same about the joke the jokes Dave Chappelle made. Nothing bad gonna happen expect maybe that writer for the joke Chris rock made might get blackballed by the Smiths in Hollywood.
    Sad part is we aren’t talking about his speech which has great meaning and understanding on why he might have reacted how he did.

    Will just showed the world how truly insecure he is as a man. If I was Chris Rock it would’ve been on site. He took that like a champ tho and much respect to him for keepin things pushin. Don’t be in front of a comedian if you too sensitive. Especially when you have a public relationship with a woman who publicly speaks about cheating on your ass. Lost all respect for Will.

    • @Lurkai
      @Lurkai 2 года назад +2

      thats a little insensitive to will and jadas credit as im sure they were NOT anticipating Chris's joke...to say "dont be in front of a comedian when they make a joke" could be applied to "dont be around people with guns if you dont want to not get shot". a big stretch but at the end of the day peoples tolerances vary across all social spectrums...we cant pretend to think we KNOW how Will and Jada are in their private lifes, as much as they publicly tell us.
      what might be offense to you could be hilarious to me essentially. but its all opinion...which for me, i think Will was fine to slap dude. albeit he couldve done it after the show, but hey, he made a public display and now chris and him have more publicity. what they do with it is really their choice, wont matter what people think of them considering thier both rather well off financially and nearing retirement age.

      @@ohmoe4385 in playing devils advocate, while I think the joke was not in good humor overall, I think Will could’ve taken it as “oh he thinks is my wife would be a good actress for G.I Jane” but that’s be the most optimistic viewpoint and even that’s a stretch to say Wills or anyones thought process would’ve gone that way if he didn’t already have the history he’s had with Jada as well as being aware of her condition.

That obviously doesn’t mean you should get away with stupid comments just because you didn’t mean to be rude. I think the best solution would have been to talk to him after the show, although there could be more to the story we don’t know about.

    Regardless, no one has the right to hit another person, thats called assault. Chris Rock is a comedian and he was roasting everyone and even Smith was laughing at the joke but it was when he looked at his wife and saw she wasn't happy, then he proceeded to slap Rock. Chris was the better man in this. Smith acted poorly and this just shows that there's an underlying problem within Smith and his wife and he just lashed out against the wrong person. So disappointing.
