I started out at Chipotle and ended up in Law Enforcement. You never know what career your gonna end up in when you first start your first job. Always continue to improve yourself. Never settle.
Very true that what Im still trying to learn.
Kill Cops
What do you do blackscape?
congrats man, please do your best at making the world a better place
Damn if you're a cop I feel sorry for you...
Me: Welcome to McDonald's, can I take your McOrder?
Boss: *rubbing temples* Again, you don't have to put Mc in front of words
Me: Oh, okay. *turns to customer* Welcome to Donald's

Racism may be there and sometimes you can't change people. I just let my work speak for itself and if they treat me less than others simply because of race, I would just leave.
Work place politics, racism and sexual harassment. Is more common than most people think
That right my hmoob brother..
A Blue Jay Turned Black sure it’s common but we BETTER THAN THAT
King of Bloons 11 But what about those who can't speak the native tongue
@@Adya_Architektonas Well, if they can't understand what they're saying, then they don't need to speak English. Don't be fucking nosey.
Love these speakdoms!!
Could you make a speekdom video about your degree. And your experience in college. BTW really enjoyed this video.
kinghabz 14 yes, I just started college and I’m wondering if it’s even worth t
Michael De La Rosa it is because a lot of jobs by 2020 will require a college education
KHfan890 thanks
Reassuring to hear that
He did it.
I don’t know if you can see this, but your channel has become a normal part of my day. I appreciate your authenticity and I found this channel from your Geekdom101 channel because of my love for the Dragon Ball Franchise.
I love how much passion and hard work you put in to your craft. I’m an audio engineer/producer and currently I work for Apple. But one day I want to make money from what I love doing. And seeing you just be yourself is really refreshing because it empowers me to continue my path and reach my goals. Thank you for being you. It speaks volumes.
I never dealt with racism before but when i was in highschool I had a friend from Guatemala and he was in the football team. Surprisingly enough one day when they were doing a seven on seven with another school I went with him to go see how it was and he wasn't playing since he was JV so me and him were on the bleachers and behind us were other JV players(his teammates which made it even more shocking to him) they weren't white they were of color and they would tell him stuff like "go back to mexico" and shit like that and of course it pissed me off and I was about go to tell them to fuck off since I was older and bigger than them (not trying to toot my horn) and what crossed the line was when they wrote the message on a piece of paper and gave it to him saying the same thing "go back to Mexico." I can understand a joke if my friend thought it was cool and funny then whatever, but he literally made it clear that he wasn't finding it funny and every time hentold them to shut up or stop they wouldn't care and would keep going and he ended up leaving the team and it really pissed me off but he didn't want me to get involved because he knew shit would get crazy if I did something. Anyways this happened a while back and looking back at the moment a always wondered if he went through more shit like that, but anyways thanks for listening.
People are tramps sometimes
Man I’m so sorry for you. I’m also a white looking latino. Colombian
That’s an oxymoron.. Latino is not a race I know because I am a Latino.. you are a white person who identify with Latino culture..
I am a brown tanish Latino I guess you could say mixed the standard version of a Latino.. native Americans and African and Spanish origins.
lol he used to sell mix tapes 🔥
Spitten that fire
Daawwwg I feel u on throwing away food.
I work in the food industry. More specifically in a hospital kitchen. Whenever I'm on dishes at night I push the food on ppl. Tell them to take it home. We throw away a ton of food and like you said homeless ppl cld be eating that.
Female bosses are the worse man. I worked at a place for 3 years as temp and I had a boss there that was a older black man who seem to be racist against white guys which I am. The job I did was pack and unpack trucks of furniture to take to events centers, expo's, and conventions. I would see the black guys get hire on but I would be overlooked. I push myself everyday to improve and become better. I would lifted up and moved things that most wouldn't do. I got tried of not being recognized for the hard work I did and not being hired on. After working a full 20 or so hours I thought what am I doing and moved on.
My first job was Dollar General at a hood and it wasn’t a good place.Everyone wanted to fight which got annoying and the pay was bad until I played politics,it was good experience though.
I'm grateful my family raised me to NOT see color, but a human.
Icy McSpicy no, i just said what i said. But thanks i guess?
That's Beautiful
Here's a cookie for you you're good people 🍪
@@bj318 I think he was saying that you're not color blind

My first job was Mcdonalds too, 2003
Me being puertorican i can understand the racism problem
Thanks for sharing your past experiences Geekdom. You put a lot of important topics in perspective 💯
True that
Recently in Baltimore, a manager of a Dunkin Donuts put up a sign offering rewards to customers who caught employees "not speaking English," I just don't understand why that's such a big deal.
Mint 001 they know who most their customers are so it makes sense to speak English unless you’re a customer speaking Spanish to an employee
I understand it and here in la they are only hiring Spanish speakers which makes shit unfair
Yo I needed this speekdom bro. You're videos really be giving me peace.
My first (real) was and still is McDonald's. It's very interesting, because I'm a Chinese Canadian, and the vast majority of people are Filipino including the managers. Because there were so many Filipino people, they always spoke tagalog to each other. So people speaking other languages is all around me. Unlike in your experience, it's normal for me to work with people who don't speak English as their first language.
In Canada, and in Alberta, the minimum wage is 13.60, and it's going up to 15.00 in October. Now, I think the next government will probably shift the wages down, but the pay is actually quite decent for non-skilled labour. I think one's experience at McDonald's is highly dependent on the managers. The managers really set the tone for the overall environment, and our restaurant manager is very positive and constructive in how he deals with things, and so I really like the managers there. They make the environment positive, and they're quite welcoming to other people. They can be harsh, but it's harsh in a good way.
I work the grill and dishes/outside. On occasion, I'm put in lobby, but I'm generally either doing a lotcheck outside/dishes, or I'm working grill. I don't mind those positions, and I actually quite like doing dishes, so I'm content to spend 2+ hours in the back doing dishes while the others work in front of the grill.
I've noticed that the smell thing is annoying for people, but my sense of smell has really got used to McDonald's over the years, so I really don't smell anything, and after working there for 4 years, I still really like the food.
One thing I really like about working here is that you see a wide variety of people. Mostly Filipino, but even among them, there's a lot of different individuals. We have good looking and not-so-good looking people, we have people who speak English very well and people who don't, we have people of different faiths working here, and we have people of different backgrounds working here. We have almost whole families working here in some cases, or at least a father and two of his kids, or the manager and his wife, or the manager and her husband. We have old and young people working here.
Also, on the area of food wastage, I definitely agree. Before all-day breakfast came around, we wasted so much food. We still do, but generally, it's when the food has been sitting the heater for over and hour, and it's kind of gross after that long. But one thing that we're not "technically" supposed to do but often do anyways is just take the food from waste and keep it. Like, when they throw out pies that are in their boxes, I might grab a couple. On Saturdays, the managers will grab the leftover food and put it in the kitchen for anyway to grab in the transition from breakfast to lunch, and one of the managers at the end of her shift will go throw the waste bin and take all the food that's decent.
So in the end, I really do like working for McDonald's because it's helped me to be able to work in a team with people I don't alway get along with, it's helped me deal with pretty stressful situations, and I've learned a lot about work ethic from working here. I recognize that it's really the people that you work with that really make the experience, but for me, I've had a very positive experience. And I really appreciate the work that goes on in the food industry and especially in fast food. I always looked down on the McDonald's job before working here, but I really have a lot of respect for these people now that I've been one for over four years.
I can Relate to this video so much
Thank you for teaching me Danny
Im 18 and i really enjoyed listening to your story.
Thank you for sharing your story geekdom. I’m really enjoying this second channel and all of its content. Going to listen to the new podcast series you started today.
his sense of humor is so gold
Love you geekdom!
This is a Speakdom I needed going into the workforce myself.
Could we maybe get a Speakdom schedule? Just so we know when to expect the next one?
Interesting Video Thanks 4 the video & just all the stories you tell I appreciate them
Thank you Danny for making videos and content I will always be interested in.
I one hundred percent agree with not having pride in a company that treats employees poorly and does not do anything for a community. Your story of McDonald's really hit home with how the grocery store I work for is. I've been there for quite a bit now pushing shopping carts, trying to save up money to go back to school. (On a side note, your videos give me something good to listen to while I work, so thank you). Back on topic, it drives me crazy how disgusting corporate politics are and how the managers just seem like puppets and robots that are willing to do whatever for their company. There's a lot of shady shit that I notice happens in the company. Shits crazy..
Anyways, thanks for sharing personal stories and thoughts from your life in these Speakdoms. Getting to know you as a person makes me respect you that much more. Keep up the good stuff, bro.
Working at McDonalds right now. Started at 8.75 and now it's 9.15 after a year and a month so the pay is okay considering it's my first job (got the job at 19 years old, few months before I turned 20) Im also going to school full time for IT as well, with the 5-6 classes I"m taking, I usually work Friday to Saturday.
The Managers overall here have kind of an attitude. I haven't heard anything racist (and it would be detrimental since most of my co-workers are also African American) but the high turnover is very unpleasant. I only work two days but working 11 hours typically on both days (on days I've asked for 8 hours to do time for school work) makes Sunday a constant Crunch Fest with Monday thru Thursday being mostly school focused.
At the end of the day it's alright. I wouldn't advise working the afternoon shift if you actually want to leave the place on time most of the time. Also, there are a ton of surrounding competitiors that simply pay more and close (McDonalds being 24 hrs)
Lucky. Your doing it right. My job I feel.bad asking for less time cause there's a crew of people
I think I'll just quit cause I've saved a bundle
My notification came so late, rip. Thissa quality video like always big D. :)
One of the unfortunate things about racism is that no mater how successful you are, no matter how well you conduct yourself, you’ll still be subjected to it depending on the circumstances. I’m a software developer with a Bachelor degree, and I still can’t escape it.
I had the police called on me multiple times for things like walking from my friends house (in a predominantly white area) and for cleaning out my car while being parked near my house (predominately white area).
Conversely, my white friend who bought a house in a predominately working class/lower-middle class black area, got harassed by the police multiple times because they assumed he was in the area to buy drugs.
The whole story about Mcdonald’s relates to me...
The smell of grease
The guy who think he’s a manager
A condescending manager
I guess all Mcdonald’s are the same smh
Wow I really needed this.
I've been going through the same thing with my manager except for the racism part. She was a friend of mine before she became manager but for the past two months she has been very passive aggressive and straight up aggressive whenever I try to talk to her. (don't know why she's been this way at all.)
I've been working here 3 years. I had to talk to the boss about it because it seemed to be getting to the point that it could potentially have gotten physical just because I know she has had anger issues in the past. Boss wasn't super helpful mostly because she doesn't have much respect for anyone in general but she said she would talk to her at least.
I'm still thinking about quieting all together but I was hoping maybe we could work it out, especially since I considered her a friend of mine. This not being that uncommon makes me feel like maybe we can work it out though.
Glad to see that you continue with speakdom even now that you have the podcast
I'm sorry you had to deal with that kind of mess on the job. I had a very similar situation ar one or my last jobs. At least now you've become very successful and you're living well.
I just turned 16 and I'm trying to get a job
Keep at it brother, hope you find something soon 👊
McDonald's.....
KHfan890 just don’t be a delivery driver you’ll lose money in the long run
Oh
It is sad that you went through that but you handled it well
Yo I feel you on this on a deep level, I mean in the politic side, I didn’t deal with racism at Mcdonalds (my first job) but there was a lot of politics, like I was cool with some managers and co workers, but the managers made it very clear who were there favorites and would give them breaks or give them chances to climb up in and ranks and I busted my ass in that job a lot harder than them and yet they receive credit where they didn’t deserve because they were lazy and took long when it came to working and held up lines and such, I only lasted I think 6 or 7 months, because I was getting frustrated and kinda depressed over it, but I feel you geekdom, you are an awesome dude
I see it far too often, especially from where I live. It's honestly something I wish would disappear forever.
@ Geekdom. Ironically, I share your pain, but experienced reverse racism from other Hispanics. Thanks for sharing and it’s enlightening for people to see the worlds as it is. I was wondering if you could make another video sharing your entry into IT and what led you to do it. I work in the field and interested to learn what led you into it. Have a good day.
I only really had one incident of racism directed towards me in my life. I am of Slavic decent I am 75% Serbian and 25% Albanian. I was born in what is now Montenegro and moved to the US when I was a toddler because of the civil war there. But I remembered I asked by someone where I was born. I said I was born in Yugoslavia and I was told by this same person "You should been slaughtered with the rest of them you filthy commie rat". Online I see lots of racism especially nowadays where there is a lot hatred directed at white people and Arabs. But I always thought oh its just people being assholes because of the anatomy you have over the internet; but when someone says to your face you deserve to die and they try to make you feel ashamed because of where you come from. It just isn't right and it hurts.
I ran into that a few tines where I wanted to take some home but couldn’t. I know exactly what you’re talking about.
Yep. Those goddamned office politics. Your career prospects depend so much more on these than any technical ability if you do not own the business.
Dude fuckin HUGE props for the Def Jux drop!! El P ! Cannibal Ox ! Aesop Rock!! And can't forget Atmosphere with the other crew!!
My experience with McDonald’s was almost exactly the same just switch the races lmao. I couldn’t stand it but I put up with it for about a year. You spoke Spanish or were Mexican you were immediately favored. Didn’t matter what you did, it was never enough if you were a white guy.
These Speakdoms are great bro
I was working in college at an Affirmative Action office, and had some old white women call the police on me when I was working late in the office by myself. They claimed I looked suspicious, despite the fact that I had worked there for months before.
I also sold VHS bootleg tapes in high school lol. Probably was like the early 2000’s around 11th or 12th grade.
Being from Philly, the Philly Cheesesteak burger sounds incredible!
If your from Philly, you should know all these fast restaurants or even any restaurant almost always do "philly cheese steaks" badly or slightly off. Basically turn them into regular sandwiches
I've been trying to get a job at mcdonalds or somewhere like that
I've never had a job yet for a few reasons at 23, and finding one is not easy
AndroidMaxine there’s always physical labor like construction or warehouse jobs keep a look out for those and you’ll find an honest job quick
What are the reasons?
Get one that doesn't needs. Resume. And don't answer the auto online thing truthfully. Don't even think it. Just answer the most positive thing you think they want to hear. Best advice I learned was that no human being actually looks at those to consider you for the job. It's just bullshit. If your worthy of the job, it'll be based on the interview and whatever other previous jobs you did
And if you have no previous experience than put down something else like volunteer somewhere and it counts.
Also don't be afraid of getting a family member to help or give you a job and put that down anyway
Even in this story, geekdom said someone in his network got him the job. And his dad drove him
Rely on others and then help them out in return
I would have never guessed you were Cuban.. Like Joey "Coco" Diaz!! Love that guy
Come on Geekdom tell me their names just this once
Oh nice I didn't know you were into underground rap, I'd definitely be interested in hearing about your favorites. Def Jux
Massive respect Big D
Ugh I remember my first job at Burger King when I was in high school. It was like you said the best thing about it was the friends that I made. The most annoying part for me was the damn customers complaining to me about the food. Like you didn't do what I requested on my burger to which I would respond with "well you ate more than half of it" lol and why are these prices so expensive. And now I'm just like that was in 2004-05 when a larger Whopper combo was like $5.75 or so. I can't imagine what they would think of prices now.
Think it might be close to 10 dollars now but right.
Lmao, That's why I dont bitch to people about my food or prices. I don't know how their day is going or if they are going through stuff. I just ask for sauces and I already feel like I'm demanding them lmao😂
I'm mixed (black and white). It's my belief that a lot of racism is born from ignorance and if you really have a problem with it then simply show them that most of the negative stereotypes aren't true for the majority of us. I have a lot of black people at my college and in my engineering courses, we were doing a lot to help that with some of our white classmates. Just being *accepted* into the engineering course proves a lot of stereotypes wrong, but we took it a step further with our attitudes. We weren't on a mission to change their minds, but we acted naturally (still do, not done with college yet :P) and a lot of our classmates are now more open and less likely to jump to conclusions than before (at least on the surface, you never know what people think on the inside).
To put it simply; if you think there's a problem, don't whine and try to find a solution. Otherwise you're just complaining and not helping.
Can u do a speakdom about your Cuba memories love the vids keep it up!
oh boy here we go
Thanks for sharing.
Have enough job craziness to put into a book from my years working at papa johns.
Better pizza for better people
Like you, I'm mistaken for a Caucasian by some people except I'm a light skinned black man. It always surprises me (and this always tends to happen when I've been working) but also saddens me when some people make racist statements and look at me and say things as if I understand and see things their way because they're thinking I'm Caucasian. :(
Racism at jobs is real and suck. I’m black and it’s always one racist. Asked racist questions. Or ask if I like black jokes. I have a unique name to say the least and There’s also always the older white person who went to high school with the only 2 black kids with unique names in a small town and their names are always “lemonjello” and “orangello” on top of the guy or girl who’s not a manager who tries to tell you what to do how to do and then tells on you when you’re not going about there way.
Recently I became self employed as a designer. I’m also a boxing coach part time. However I work for myself and being able to control my work environment has done wonders for my life. Being at certain jobs with certain types of people will make you feel stuck because they feel stuck and misery loves company.
I’m stationed in Cuba right now my man. I didn’t know you were from here!
More storytimes plz
I worked at McDonald’s when I was 18 too. Lol except I worked the graveyard shift.
I worked at Burger King and our neibor was Arby's. They gave us free stuff and we gave them free stuff

Hmm, I'm in Canada, & I guess I'm technically a person of color.
I'm about 25% British, 25% German, 18.75% Italian, 18,75% Black, 12.5% Irish.
Allot of things, but since my grand father is Black, I got a darker skin tone.
(even more so when I get tanned)
Where I grew up was an area allot more multi culture, & progressive.
So I rarely came across some one who was raciest to me, when I did it was just whatever there just trying to be an ass.
I technically blended more in with the Italians in the area, so that helped I'm sure.
But I moved to a different Province, Nova Scotia, from Southern Ontario.
All I can say there are allot of racist people here!
This place is mostly white, and what diversity is here, are more fresher immigrants.
I also did allot more outside now, and I tan real good, I like to take my smart watch off & show people the difference sometimes haha.
But I was blind sided by all the racist people I encountered....
People here, assume I am muslim... So, I get everything from bad looks, to bad statements. Like at Costco I was taking a sample, and I was given a look & told you know that is Pork or beef whatever it is there not allowed to eat..... & I was very confused by that statement & attitude..... I said yes, took it ate it and walked away then it kicked in...
To even more direct examples I could go on about......
Not everyone is like that..... But way to many people are.....
It disturbs me..... Bringing light to an issue I never fully understood was there.... & effects me.
Since Trump came in power, even tho that's America.....
He directly empowers racist people even here in Canada!
The increase from before Trump to post Trump was like maybe 30 to 40% worse!
This was already after I figured out that I was in a racist province....
Just more people feel its "okay" to act out now..... Vs maybe they were just the ones who gave me abit of a look I would pickup on....
Yes, I try to judge everyone based on there actions!
I always have, but I was brought up good.
I was raised by my grand parents.
My Black Grandfather & white born & raised in England grand mother.
She got with my grand father back in the 60's where racism...... was even worse..... At least on what was publicly acceptable....
But that didn't stop her! So she doesn't have a racist born in her body, and doesn't understand the stories I tell her of what I went though here.
My grand father also didn't hold anything against white people, because I don't know any of the stories from him back then really.
But I am sure he got it!
But clearly he judges people by their actions as well!
I 100% agree, the blame falls on the actual person who is being racist.
Trump isn't turning people racist....
But the way he is empowering people, is by giving deplorables more voice......
All this is done though his actions, from travel bans, to saying some neo Nazi's are very good people......
I could go into even more detail..... But I don't particularly want to.
I'm not a fan of arguing.
But when your the president of the United States doing such things...... It's going to have a very large effect....
All I can say, as a person of some color, I can speak from my first hand experiences.
As I said above, I always considered the people in this province to be way more racist then from where I came.....
I concluded that Before Trump was elected. The issue just got louder & more in my face.....
The defining difference that connects it to Trump, is the significant increase in there vocalizations to me.
Before where maybe I mostly got subtle hints, I had to pay attention to notice.....
I now have people directly saying things even more....
It's hard to expect other's to understand unless if your in a similar situation.
But not much else changed between 2016 to 2017..... But it's 30 to 40% worse now....
Dont blame the president. These people were here way before trump announced his presidency. Here in the US, politics have been polarized since Clinton or Bush.
@@mildgod5353 if you read my comment directly above the one you just made.
I did clarify into more detail.
It maynot be all of his fault but he sure as hell isn't helping anything on the subject. He just making it worst and yes i don't like Trump very much neither.
Fry station was the worst!
My first job was fast food it’s definitely not easy like people make it seem to be, another great video geekdom
As an Hispanic American.. I was respected more when I was living in Japan than here in the US.. yes racism exists in japan.. but coming from the US where I was born and raised and even served in the military, I always felt less privileged.
Great story, Big D. What also really got me at the end was when you talked about food donations. There is no reason why that food can't be donated, when there is *literally* a law on the books called "The Bill Emerson Good Samaritan Food Donation Act" that gives legal protection for those who donate food to the needy.

Take it how you want. Thank you geekdom
Jesus man, glad you're not dealing with that anymore. I'm kinda scared now since I'm been trying to apply for jobs recently.
I didn’t get better geekdom you are totally correct😂

My first job and current job is McDonald's! The Bacon Smokehouse is the best burger at McDonald's!🙌👍
This video touched and it hurts that the colleague racist ones get away with this and I was in a paticular situation but not with a manager but a colleague and l lost my job because that prick I’m glad u did the right thing and things happen for a reason

6:30 i was so happy when i once had that asshole kicked out ;)
The minimum wage depends on the state. Here in Maryland it is $10.10.
Heh that extra ten cents must really help. Unless it's tied to something that automatically increases and that's why
Ive always found the best people work in the worst jobs.
7:39 okay get got a lil vegeta in him
I started at a movie theater making 7 an hour but I've dealt with politics in my other jobs and I just knew I wasn't cut out for traditional jobs
u do have an accent actually. I remember back when u had like 70k subs when I subbed, the way you said Geekdom, sounded like Gee-kicked-Dom. That was a dead giveaway lol. Knew you were hispanic but didnt know from where until last year when I heard you on a stream saying ur from Cuba and Quaman saying he is From Trinidad and he did the accent. Im Grenadian Westindian like Quaman born here.
Be careful, the anti-sjw crowd often is in the anime community and they can be aids about stuff like this. (though so far the comments seem okay)
Niva whats wrong with being anti sjw?
@@kskillen2001 just like sjws they get annoying.
NO Hi hmm but doesn't that make you anti sjw xd
You should watch The Devil is a Part Timer. I only bring this up because the main character also works fast food as well so you might get some kicks of it
nope, its. not too different today. had a pizza job 2 years ago and it was downright horrendous. low pay, treated people like shit, not giving people a chance to move up, etc.
Awesomeness video
McDonald's was my third job on the books, made like $6.75 an hour and it "jumped" to $7.15, big whoop. And it was inside a Wal-Mart, that was hectic. I had a manager just like this woman you speak of. The worst part was they kept scheduling me with this bitch. So one Friday, they had me closing with this bitch every night, so I'm like naw I'm just not showing. My homie wouold stop by my crib since it was on the way there, and he was a manager too, and he's like why you not ready - I'm not showing up. He hated this bitch too, so he didn't show. We were the only 3 scheduled, so she had to work the whole store by herself. Another manager, that was also my friend, shows up to my crib the next day and told me how she showed up at the store and this bitch was by herself. Laughed my ass off. I actually like working there, a bunch of the workers were friends of mine, we'd get off work and go to my house and get lit. We even had food when we got off cuz of the leftovers, just took them jawns, my one friend would make more food for us so we'd definitely have grub to quell the munchies. Good times now that I look back, but then I hated that place cuz of her and her bitch self.
Truth Geekdom
Damn I remember that $5.50 hr pay & yes I hated the food after a while.
I hate when people take jobs like that too seriously
Yeah, it's like we both work the same shitty job, get over yourself
Shout out on the Def Jux.. Aesop Rock, El-P, Camu Dao, and Cannibal Ox is my shit.. wish Despot woulda dropped a full album before the Def Jux hiatus.
It sucks cause now open racism is being considered acceptable more and more...
On election day 2016 while putting gas, some drunk dickheads began telling me to start packing my bags judging by the fact that I had a beard.
Do you still have those mix cds, how much?
Everyone must have the wisdom of geekdom
I'm glad you got out of there or we won't have your videos ;) :D You just said it, those are temporary jobs, I pity anyone who wants to make a career out of it. As for bad bosses or colleagues we get them everywhere not just at fast food joints :/ I'm not a big fan of McDonalds anyway, I smiled when you mentioned the grease, apparently my stomach has a hard way digesting it :)
Your videos are awesome
