Compared to my previous irons Callaway Maverick, at my fitting I saw a gain everywhere. Distance, spin, launch and descent angle were up against my old irons and they had no problems holding the greens!
I've got a video coming out in the next few weeks with an update to this - I may have been a bit harsh!
Spin has to be taken in context with distance. I have been fitting these for the past month and almost everyone has seen a distance gain of 15-20 yards over their previous irons. Based on this, if a player was hitting 150 with his previous 7 iron then he would be hitting a 9 iron to the same 150 yards. Using a 9 iron to carry the same distance would mean the spin would be up about another 1500 rpm. If you went the other way and said the Paradym covers 150 and he hits his old irons then he would need to hit 2 clubs more so the spin would drop down. Time after time I have seen these launch higher, fly higher and go 2 clubs longer. None of that is a negative. In this video he is hitting a 7 iron over 200 carry and it's stopping within 6-7 yards. Once again, if you had to hit a 5 iron to carry 200 yards would you expect it to stop in less time than that?
Very true!
So right!
Great point. If he's hitting his own irons (blades), he's hitting his 4 or 5 iron 210 yards...not a 7. These clubs are suited for a player like myself (16 handicap). I need more distance with a higher trajectory. The higher ball flight will compensate for a lower spin.
I was just fitted these but changed the shaft to increase the spin and it worked a charm
Great to hear!
Just picked up a 7 piece iron set of these plus a paradigm driver and 3w on Callaway pre owned for $1100 after trade ins of my 15 year old x20s. So excited to see how these will play out.
Maybe mention that the clubs can be customized. Lofts can be tweaked to be weaker to add spin. A ball change can affect spin rate too. The irons aren’t just off the rack options. Can be fitted.
I game the P790 and I hate it. I’m a 8 h’cap and it feels like a high h’cap player game improvement. I’ve just tried the Callaway rogue pro and it was miles better in terms of looks and performance. So, I’m looking forward to trying these…..
Why do you hate the P790's? I loved the Rogue St Pro's, I actually preferred them to the PARADYM
I think you’ll be better off with the rogue pros over these as well. The lofts on these are a bit silly, especially for a 8 handicap
You’ll probably like Apex Pro better, these look a lot like Rogues just with a forged face.
Not sure why the P790 has become the standard. I have noticed it more with youtubets on the other side of the pond. The P790 iron is 30.5, definitely not tradional. I am a 65 year old, 19 handicap player with an iron clubhead speed of 65 mph. When I tested the P790's I hit the iron with a carry distance of 175 yards. I hit my Callaway 7 iron with a 155 yard carry. The P790 is very hot so why is it that you are put off that this Callway iron is not a players iron but the P790 is. Just wondering. I believe the Mizuno 223's are a much better feeling iron then the P790. So is the Wilson D9 Forged. Sorry I just believe there are several irons that fill the definition of a "Players Iron" besides the P790. Just my opinion. I enjoy your reviews and channel content.
Due to the popularity I look towards the P790 as the staple of a player's distance iron. Not saying it's the best, but I believe it's a good comparison. I think you're correct in saying there are several irons that fill the definition 100% - Different players require different needs, and the lofts being stronger in the Callaway is not a bad thing for certain players. Thank you for your comment!
You are absolutely right...even more the p790 is not considered as a players iron but game improvement. The p770 are considered as players irons as the titleist 100 or the ping i 230... etc
65 mph 7 iron doesn’t carry 175 yards unless you have a 50 mph wind behind you
I just got fitted for these yesterday with a Callaway rep at my home course. I now need to find a way to hide $1400 from my wife
How do these compare to the mavariks
Awesome clubs
I am a Senior Callaway golfer supporter needing new irons, ( only carry 7- Sw as like my hybrids and fairway woods) would the Paradym m be the way to go or just as good to go with the last year Rogue OS Lites?
Personally I would think the Rogue OS Lites would be a better fit, but it's hard to say.
How do these compare to a Mavrik or Mavrik Pro?
How do these compare to Apex 21? Which do you think is better?
Apex 21 for me
@@GolfmagicPlus Why?
Is that back plastic?
Isn’t the apex supposed to come in June?
from what I’m hearing it won’t be until 2024.
@@GolfmagicPlus oh really!? Someone here in Spain told me summer 2023. But Callaway has been awfully quiet about it, so you may be right. Let’s see. I can wait though 😉
They launched the $400 PER IRON great big berthas instead 😅
That 7 iron loft is more like a 5.5 iron.
I hate this new strong lofted irons trend.
@@NovemberFoxtrotRC
New??? Players distance irons can help extend the game for players as they age and lose clubhead speed. This has been a trend for a long time. Play whatever club hits the yardage. Tech and design can boost peak height through velocity and keep landing angles relatively steep.
@@NovemberFoxtrotRC new? Pretty much the standard for club makers for the last 10 years!
I have to be honest and say that I'm not keen on the looks of this new offering from Callaway, much too shiny and not a fan of that back view.
The chrome glossy finish won't please everyone, I agree with you
P790 blows out of the water and cheaper. The blue look isn’t that appealing to me nor is the silly name.
The blue does look better in person but with the P790's being cheaper, for me it's hard to ignore.
Better to have a target player test them out. These are just too far outside your game.
I completely understand your point - We'll look to get a few different testers next time.
Absolutely not appealing just like most Tec driven iron heads. The strong lofts also make this style not appealing I don't need a 7 iron flying further then a standard loft 4 iron 👎
Simple then play a better players club. Don't need to be a dick about it.
Price is ridiculous
Pssh… This is a bargain compared to their great big bertha irons that will set you back $400 per iron lol
so it's illegal then .
yeah I peppered these bad boys on the green over my old forged callaways. This guy is not very good. Poor form
Thanks for your comment!
260yd 4 iron??? How far do you hit your driver
about 310
