I just did a Sigma 16mm f1.4 review and one of the most common questions people ask me is whether it would be good on the a6000. Nice to see someone else agrees. I think the big problem most people were scared about was not having oss on a body without ibis. Honestly, I mostly use it for photos and shoot my videos with my 6500 but even in video mode I didn't mind not having OSS, I think the lens is just wide enough to make the little jitters not no bad.
Sorry for the confusion, I mean that new smartphones cameras are getting better and better, right? I am afraid that if I buy this sigma 16mm now, will it be the same around quality with the new smartphone cameras over the next couple of years. I don't want to invest my money that is trash in 2 years. What do you think?
I see what you're saying, unfortunately, because of the size of the sensor in the phone, and because of that limitation, I don't know that phones will truly catch up to mirrorless or dslr cameras any time soon. Its definitely a bit tough to know for sure but thats what I think. Yes the cameras on phones are good and getting better, but every time I compare my phone shots to my camera's shots, its no contest, the camera wins every time. So I guess it just depends what you need it for specifically, if you can figure that out, maybe you'll know the answer!
turanmehmet smartphone cameras are getting better and same for the cpu inside but before we get a6000+ sigma 16mm quality it will take at least 5/7 years maybe more because the progress is slowing down. And even after those years it will all software magic not because they will start using proper sensor size. If you're passion is photography don't even think about smartphone.
Have this 16mm 1.4, except paired to my micro four thirds GX85. Purchased from the Sigma website from their refurbished department, came delivered at $339. Because of the Sigma standards, their "used" is basically new in every way, from packaging to cosmetics, with all new box, wrappings and instructions. When it does hunt for focus, its a very slight and brief, back and forth which only happens under difficult shooting circumstances. This is my go to lens for long exposure stills, and low light video walking tours.
Yes, definitely do a tutorial on lighting with the A6000! I would love a video on taking the a6000 on travel. Would you recommend extra light? Lenses you would take etc.
I just got my sigma 16mm to use on my a6000 and just did a full day with it yesterday and I can say that everything everyone was saying about how good this lens is was correct. I love it! I mainly do carshow pics and scenery and the pics came out great. I really think I want to get the 30mm as well and those be my go to lenses. I have the sony 50 1.8 but that is too close for most of what I shoot.
Had my 16mm for over 6 months absolutely love it Would Love to see a vid on lighting setups that would be compatible from a6k to the a7 lineup Keep up the good work Danny
I would love if you made a video about lighting with off camera flash. I own a A6000, and purchased the sigma 16mm awhile back. I love how the 16mm looks while shooting portraits, it does give a different look to it.
I was planning on buying this lense but I held back considering I've made up my mind on moving up to the A7III. Will keep my a6500 as a backup with the Sigma 30mm. The other lenses I've bought are all FE lenses.
I have Sigma 16mm and Sony 35mm oss, the only drawback is I need somehow to kick my shutter to 100 to remove some jitters when using the 16mm. Sigma 16mm gives me a more different look on portraits.
I also have this lense paired with a Sony a6000. Recently found an in-camera zoom feature! It works good with landscape photos giving me a little more versatility. Set it up as custom setting C2 from one of your menu setting tutorials.
I was going to get it, but already have the 30mm, which is also awesome, but I moved to the A7III now and no longer need apsc lenses. But for people with the a6500 series cameras, this is a no brainer!
A have a a6500. Also have the sigma 16mm actually. Just got myself a Godox ad200. Please do make a video on how you will use a single ad200 in studio and out doors. Im thinking if I should buy another. Thanks for all the content you been putting out. Helps a lot since I'm just a newbie.
Nice Review and of course a nice lens. I would like to test it out on my channel. At the moment I use the 12mm Samyang as a wide angel lens. But f1.4 and AF would be nice, also if you “only” get 16mm
A6000 prime user here and I have the Sigma 16mm 1.4 as well! Its a great lens. Thanks for sharing! Hoping to upgrade to the 6500 soon for wedding films, unless you have a reccomendation
that1cameraguy No I am not able to budget for the a7iii. My partner is pushing for a7rii or a7iii while we do rentals for lenses, accessories and audio. I rather go for the 6500 and spend less on rentals with the budget.
For weddings you will want the a7iii, trust me my man. Not having to switch batteries for 5-6 hours shooting on wedding day is worth it in itself, plus the dual sd recording, and full frame action. Just book another gig or save up and get the a7iii. You WONT regret it one bit, trust me
When you get a chance. I would like to see how to work a lighting multi lighting system (say with 3-4 lights) and/or how to sync them up with the A6000.
I enjoy my a6000 very much, personally I just have the kit and 55-210mm lenses but my friend has the sigma 30mm for his a6300 and I have used it on my camera... Probably my fav lens, the 16mm is a little too wide for my liking... Thx, Moses...
I got the lens for my sony a5100 for a good range for blogging. I love its sharpness. I wonder what kinda lighting I can do, if I go out to shoot photos
Would love to see lighting set up and how it works with a6000. Looking for flash trigger system since I recently bought an a6000 and coming from a Canon 7dmkii I'm missing the ease of use with my yongnuo flashes and flash controller.
Cant decided what lens to grab. I pretty much just take pics of kids when were out and some building and landscapes. Also some shooting inside with wife. Any recommendations would greatly appreciate. I have the a6000 with kit lenses.
The portability of this combo will be strange because the lens is heavier than the body. Sigma 16mm F1.4 (450g) Sony a6000 (344g). In my opinion it should be the contrary right?
Try the older aps c like the a5100 and the NEX series. Some of us still use them. I have the NEX F3 and am planning to get the sigma 16mm 1.4 I want to see if it would still look great. Thanks
Is there a way to quickly switch from one face to another with face detection AF? I find it a bit too random when there is more than one person. Yes the lens is great. Carrying 2 bodies one with the 16mm and another with the 30mm can cover 90% of the situations at most events / shoots.
I’m a total beginner I got a ton of blurry photos when I first used it. I’m going to try bumping up my iso and shutter speed. But honestly, I wish I hadn’t bought it for my Sony a 6300.
Thanks for supporting the A6000 and posting really helpful content! I've been looking for a lens that I can use on my A6000 for landscapes and possibly astro-photography when I travel as my DSLRs are just too bulky and I love my A6000 as a travel camera.
I bought it two weeks ago for my a6000. Haven’t much time to shoot with it. But as far as I’ve tested it, it’s a great lense for photography. The missing OSS didn’t bother me yet. But we’ll see.
I have the lens and love it! I do with it had OSS that’s the only negative for me. Would also love some tutorials on off camera (or on camera) flash photography. I’ve experimented with it and can’t seem to work it out!!
Great video as always. Love to watch tutorial on budget lighting. A sony a6500 user, too bad i've invested in a samyang 12mm for my wide angle lens (no slouch either) but loving my sigma 30mm f1.4. Keep bringing the good sir. Much love from Malaysia.

No issues with lack of OSS w/the 6000? I know if it were with a 63/6500 then the IBIS would compensate but since there’s no stabilization how does that affect your shots/videos?
Whew! I thought us a6000 dudes were forgotten.

I agree, too. What do you think about this lens and a smartphone camera?

I shot an entire music video handheld with the Sony a6000 and 16mm sigma. I love this lens!
