You know you're getting there when the manufacturers start to reach out to you about your videos. Whether they like what you say or object, they know that people listen to you - which means you're doing good work. You should have *far* more subscribers than you do.
You know that Maytag Man Costume goes along way in public relations. It incompasses miliions of dollars and 50+ years of free publicity. That is a brilliant marketing ploy on Ben's behalf. Clearly Ben is a very confident and dedicated appliance tech however when he is out of uniform his physical presence is lack luster by comparison.
@@Detroitblue , I wouldn't know about his physical presence. I've never met the man in person, though I'm sure he's as fine a human being in person as he is on his videos.
Just purchased the LG and when I connected it to the app it added a free 2nd year of full coverage. Wasn't expecting that so it was a nice surprise. If companies want people to adopt these machines they should be offering long 5+ year warranties.
LG owner here. Not mentioned, the LG has all DC inverter pumps which are amazing. No more loud AC hum during drains. My quick review. Washer is an absolute 10/10. Quick, quiet, large size. Dryer is an 8 of 10. Some loads come out slightly damp, but most are very dry. Also, lint is a thing. Especially on the gasket. Sometimes you will find a small bit on your clothes here and there. I have 2 small pets. If you have large pets, you may find more. Pro tip. This machine is awesome for laundry at night. Love waking up to clothes ready to fold and no more laundry day on the weekend. Also, the energy savings are quite large. Yeah, the dryer uses half or even less compared to vented dryer, but the bigger savings are in not sending up to 9000 cu/ft. of conditioned air out of your living space into the outdoors. Depending on how cold or hot it is outside and how much laundry you do, this could be huge.
As a note, on the LG in-depth review, I did mention the DC pump. I tried not to re-do every comparison as that may of ran 40min and people would stop watching.
Condenser dryers are DOA in the US. Vented is prominent here which is similar costs, but superior performance. This unit features a heat pump dryer and yeah, its cheaper to run but a few sacrifices are made. @@Progan666
Sorry to hear lots of people having issues with these. This is so bizarre for me. To see people in the western world having so much issue building this properly for their consumers. We have been using these in Japan for the past 20 plus years with hardly any issues. Would be nice if they could make it perfect so people in the western world wouldn't have such headaches calling tech, waiting, and etc. Large companies need to do better, especially since this isn't new tech. Hitachi brand washer dryer combo is very popular in Japan.
Check in your filter slot to the left side for a lot of lint buildup and be sure to keep the filter out after a load as moisture builds up in that duct.
We bought the GE when it first came out and it's the only appliance that has ever been life changing. No more stinky laundry from sitting too long. Just put clothes in and 2 hrs later it's done. Auto detergent, auto softener, smart app. Just a great overall machine. I bought at a significant discount as an introductory offer, but it would have been worth it at it's regular price.
I was leaning that way too, but I really like the bigger drum size of the LG and the optional tiny wash pedestal. But everything else seems better on the GE.
@@jvance6 I think it was about a 2 thousand. I bought it, then it went on sale, then I had to complain to HD until they gave me the sale price. They did though.
@@hjc0706 hey, no brand shaming here! We love that Ben does such a good job that you can pick the right machine for your lifestyle. I'm so glad you found em. Good luck!
We purchased the older version of the LG washer/dryer back in 2022. It’s a wonderful machine, and I enjoy having the extra space in my tiny home. Sometimes I have to dry towels again, but other than that I have no complaints!
Ben’s Appliances makes the BEST reviews… No nonsense and super-thorough for a proper evaluation of the pros & cons. Good job on this specific episode! 💕 I love truth above all else. And my new LG’s are still a charm to own. P.S: Love the comparative comprehensive chart after tests.
His GE review solidified our purchase and 3 months later, I still don't regret buying it. I hope YT knows how good of a content creator this is. Finding this info from a salesperson is really difficult as they have brand loyalty for their company. I don't need brand loyalty, I need to know what different brands offer! Ben really is the best. Thank you for saying it.
One consideration I haven’t heard addressed yet: lack of space isn’t the only reason to choose a two-in-one model; lack of ventilation is another. In an older apartment or condo building one may not have the option of venting the dryer anywhere.
@@Resist4 110/120 is the same. Appliances are made with a rather big tolerance to work on both voltages. For EU (230v) the tolerance of the grid itself is 195,5v upto 253v
I purchased a GE Ultra fast approximately 8months ago. I have had to have 3 separate tech visits to fix the Drain Pump both times that either clogged or stopped spinning due to lint being trapped in the pump. The Tech himself suggested that I return the model as his opinion was that the model wasn't ready yet. Currently in the process of returning my GE Ultrafast
Curious, did they replace the pump the 1st visit? Did they Flush the assembly before they installed the same or new pump? Possibly you have a bad pump and cleaning it is not the solution. Have it replaced.
We bought two of the LG units and so far so good. There has been some quirky behavior, though. For instance, I came home the other night after leaving a load in the washer running when we left. When we returned, it said it had about 50 minutes left in the drying cycle. I came back about 20 minutes later and that had changed to 2 hours 36 minutes (!!??). I paused the load and took some of the clothes out. All were perfectly dry. Weird.
I have never wanted so badly for a waster/dryer failure so I can impulse buy one of these things. However, I think I will wait for next year's model to see what changes they make after learning some lessons. Both are well engineered but clearly nothing is perfect and I bet a lot of little things will change in the upcoming revision. Also I have one of those LG fridge's covered in the class action lawsuit and I am still furious. Lost hundreds in food they never covered, spent months waiting for repair, and the new motor is so loud that people constantly ask if my fridge is broken. So I am very not pleased to give them more money for another compressor.
Can't add anything to the GE but I've had the LG for a month now and it's a God send. I love everything about it. Every wash+dry is about 2 hrs. The longest was about 3:15 on 10 full size towels. Average electricity is about 1khw with the towels being 1.5kwh. It's an amazing technology. I got the LG for $1699 through their website. I would pick the LG purely for the looks and size. The LG is modern looking.
@@bensappliancesandjunk Yes sir. I bought it direct from LG. I guess we're lucky it's working perfectly for us. We got it for $1699 because it's through LG partner site.
After having the unit a while the length seem to stick a lot less to the coils and duck. Purchased the GE appliance brushes and didn't have to modify my filter. Happy with the unit now
just so you're aware on the lg you can turn on the dry function in the bedding mode its just not automatically on for some reason. This is a great and thorough review that was unbiased. yale appliances did a comparison a couple of days ago and they completely left out power consumption on the units only talking about dry times and told a lot of half truths and an outright lie when he said that lg does not have their own repair technicians.
LG does have their own techs, but a lot of people argue in the comments about the number of them. The reality is that there aren't a ton of companies that do LG warranty anymore, and most that do it, are COD for the most part. But as I mentioned to someone else, I love working on LGs out of warranty because they're generally reliable & easy to use.
i had to have a tech come out for my first unit that was defective and he was out 4 days after being scheduled by lg i was surprised it was that quick especially since I'm in a mountain area an hour away from a city. just bothered me when he said they don't have any and uses it as a reason people should choose the ge. @@bensappliancesandjunk
The video I have been waiting for! Going to watch it again. Wish I had run into this channel when I was redoing my kitchen. I'm getting stuck on your videos btw :)
The comparison and explanation in your video was quite thorough. The one question that I have is, how does the cleaning ability compare between the two machines? Thanks!
A note for viewers, he could have added the Dry Cycle to the Bedding setting as well as the Towel setting, by touching the Dry button at the right and adding it to the wash cycle before starting the load. No reason to come back after wash to run a dry.
No clue. Maybe the same reason he did a chart to compare apples to strawberries by running the GE with an extra rinse and the LG with 3 extra rinses, and directly compared their water usage in the same chart.
@@0thundr0 I did get the answer I was looking for though. The condenser on the LG is undersized compared to the GE. Yes, it does make the LG nicer looking but no way do I want 4+hour dry times on anything ever. I put the GE in my rental and its great, almost the perfect machine but HUGE. I was hoping to get the LG for myself... but I'm refusing Costco delivery today based on this and other reviews. Too bad, Costco had the LG for $1899!
@@Finndian We have run 84 cycles in ours, and I have never seen 4 hour dry times. Our family of 4 washes full loads for every load. We have even washed comforters, and dog beds. We had a couple of loads in the first few days of ownership back in January that didn't do into dry mode, but there was a firmware update that fixed that. No more issues. Maybe people who are getting 4+ hour dry times need to put it on the internet and update. At the end of the day though, you have to buy what you feel will do the best for you. Good luck!
Unfortunately, my experience has been bad. Bought the combo 8 months ago and I'm on my 5th technician visit. The major repairs have involved a motherboard replacement due to the machine going dead. Next, the entire heat pump assembly failed. The product is so new the technicians have never seen it or been trained on it. Keep in mind, the 10 year limited warranty only covers the motor (5 years for the heatpump) and excludes labor cost.
Feels like if you had purchased the combo and were on your 5th visit from a technician you’d know that the entire heat pump system has a 5 year warranty
@@TomRasmussen-x7nWho wants any of that on a brand new appliance for thousands of dollars!?! That's NOT normal. I would sue GE for a replacement or refund. I've won every single consumer dispute I've ever had to pursue. This would be no exception!!!
We just returned a brand new GE. It needed a new control unit right out of the box. Our repairman said they get lots of warranty calls on the newer GE washers and dishwashers. Was really disappointed as we wanted it to work.
Please keep in contact with the family you donate the GE too. Maybe if they are okay with it you can do a 1 yr check up to see how the machine is holding up. Same would be great with the LG. My main interest in picking one is the no longer having to move heavy wet clothes or forgetting clothes then having to rerun it.
First off Thanks for all the info! Wow, That was alot of Stats! Secondly I think they are both Over Engineered pieces of crap and prone to major failures. I will continue to use my 30 year old GE washer and dryer, Thank you! And Third I agree With your flavor choice of combo's! Yumm!
OMG you are my new favorite product tester! This was AMAZING for anyone as anal retentive as I am and will delay a purchase just to avoid an unknown quirk I cannot stand that makes me resent my purchase!
This was a totally Awesome informative video! I’m currently considering buying one of the combo washer/dryers units. This type of video is what every consumer needs before making a purchase! ❣️
One of the biggest differences I found in these machines reaching higher drying temperatures is - instead of usual washer dryer areas, which are small, enclosed and in many cases don't have their own ventilation vents, putting these in open areas where there is plenty of ventilation available makes them perform better.
I bought the LG and so far it has been amazing, plus the drawer below is useful. A couple of loads have been mildly damp, but I have never owned a dryer that I didn't frequently have to run more than once. Glad I bought it over the GE.
LG washing machines are made to last ! I gave my brother our 6kg washer and it is now 18 years old if i kept that washing machine and not got the Hi sense 7kg i would never had half the washing machine headaces woes i have had ! The repairs guy did not even want repair the hi sense ... ! Then eventully i bought a new washing defy top loader 8kg .. it worked perfect out the box and then got issues and then i got sent a new unit , well it was worse than unit that was sent back .. The retailer agreed to give us credit and i went back to LG front loader 7kg direct drive and its brilliant light on water and electricty ! Washes well ;) even on 30 quick wash !
I went for the lg waiting for the pickup Update: When I was waiting for the lg there was a delay on the payment and I lost the promotion price. Them by fortune I fund a ge combo at 1k on marketplace with only one month used. I have to said God knows what he does, I can’t be any happier it works amazing and dry perfectly no complaints at all
the most worrying part is that some companies have proprietary boards installed that controls the machine and only their personal are allowed to fix/replace these at a very high price. Not sure but i think it is Siemens.
I wonder how these machines compare to heatpump wash and driers elsewhere in the world, like Panasonic for asia (did release in very small quantities at a short period of time outside of asia) or AEG for europe This isn't new tech but it seems like manufacturers finally caught on how popular the concept would end up being in the US
By the way, I also have to have a appliance repair technician come out here multiple times replace parts have to take off work multiple hours and contact GE which requires at least an hour on hold before you are able to speak with anyone. My name issue is drying!
Hi Ben. Great videos. My wife, 4 year old daughter, and myself have been looking for an upgraded combo unit over our splendid combo for our toy hauler. I'm a lineman so we travel full time for my job. I am looking at the GE and the LG and trying to decide which one to choose. I watched the video but didn't get a clear answer. Was hoping you could point me in the right direction for our needs being in a toy hauler and traveling. Thanks!!!
Hey Ben, is the weight you quoted for each unit correct, or is the weight you displayed correct? It seems like they are mixed up. 2:20. Also, why is the LG using so much water?
Ben, I caught the total water usage between the two. Question: 1) Does the Extra Water option on the GE (+3 gal to main wash and to rinse cycles) add *noticeably* more water in the tub? 2) For the LG, does Extra Rinse +3 just mean 3 *additional* rinse cycles but no increase in water during each? 3) Is there any way to add water to the main wash cycle on the LG? Why do I ask? Because we use additives like washing soda and percarbonate, and I've found having more water helps keep the load from feeling tacky after the rinse is done on a front loader. Sometimes, I run it through an extra wash cycle (fast wash) just to rinse it better. This is on our current compact front loader, so hoping to grab one of these combos soon. Thanks so much for the thorough testing!
Do you think putting the GE on the pedal (stand) will increase the vibration specifically during spin cycle ? So much vibration is transferred to the kitchen floor on anything higher than low spin
I love your methodology! Can I ask for one change in future presentations? Engender comparison. That means A vs B, pizza vs soup, etc. Specifically not 3 or more things (A vs B vs C). In the video at 1:45 you state the dimensions of both units. That really means the listener needs to hold 9 numbers in their heads basically at the same time. A vs B and the difference, times 3 dimensions. I would have preferred summarizing the size difference as LG is 1" narrower, 8" shorter, but 2" deeper. Content means doing work for us viewers, right? This just makes the data meal easier to consume, or as Belushi would say "pre-chewed". 😊
One issue is that I have an editor now for videos. I usually have to note these things to him to remember to do, as otherwise I'd have probably done it naturally w/o thinking. Usually I have to request such things, whereas to you and maybe me, it'd of come naturally. Still a work in progress.
Well there is always rewind, the pause button, in conjunction with a pen & paper..... come on, you can put in that much effort into it for yourself rather than hold the rest of us up that may not need such an in depth breakdown of dimensions. And when I find myself in that situation, I take it upon myself to use fast forward rather than bothering the content creator over silliness you can resolve yourself .....like a big girl !
Curious how often new models are released for appliances - is it a yearly thing? These types of machines are very interesting to me and i wouldnt mind getting one, but preferably a second or later generation.
I don't have any info on that. My gut feeling is its probably more than a year out on something like this because its absolutely brand new, and it'd take time to get feedback and make REAL changes to flaws. Is it possible we see a new GE Ultrafast before end of year? Probably. But I doubt that model would have more than cosmetic changes that they had in the pipeline when it released.
I had a smaller LG combo unit when I lived in California for years and had nothing but good experiences with it. However when one uses a combo unit... I did have to adjust my laundry routine. Most of the time I would run the wash only and just hung my shirts up to air dry.
Thanks for the comparison, just subscribed. I am leaning toward the LG washtower (WKHC202HBA) to give me the option of doing multiple loads quicker. I looked at their online manual and see it has a condensor conditioning maintenance cycle. If I understood it correctly you pour fluid into the filter recepticle and I guess it washes the condensor? Would this solve the condensor lint buildup issues with these heatpump units? Oh, they are on sale until 2/28/2024 and have an extra year manufacturer's warranty when you register your purchase.
Ben, your review is fantastic. We are deciding whether to get an all-in-one or stackable unit. My wife will do the laundry due to my physical limitations. You mentioned LG has a heat pump stackable arrangement. Our concern is, that my wife is 5'2" and reaching stackable units may pose a problem. Would you recommend which scenario works best for us and the models of each? I really appreciate any help you can provide.
Just got a used dryer with loose change, I Google how to open, and low and behold it’s the exact same model dryer in this video, thanks for the quick basic and easy to follow video
Ben, thanks for the videos, i just recently bought the ge profile combo and it works great. We have been religiously cleaning the lint traps, coils and drains. We will probably end up doing the mods to the lint trap. Just curious if you could follow up with GE to clarify and list the potential negative consequences as a result of the modifications. Im confident that the ADA compliance wasnt the main factor for lint to bypass the lint trap. GE could revise a trap with improved sealing on the outer edges where the trap slots in and still maintain ADA compliance.
You have to remember to shake the articles of clothing and bedding after removing it from the unit! It’s a new process, but they are not lying about needing to shake them dry!
Thanks. It would be interesting to have a comparison of the washing performance of each of these. I've always had LG's (3 sets of them) and none have ever given me a lick of trouble.
Updated software 8/1/24 from LG and made a big difference in drying. I also added a custom cut to fit lint filter after the main lint filter that has helped lots on keeping lint out of coils
For size and weight, If I was going to get one for a tiny house situation, I would go with the LG, it would fit in more spaces, like under the counter, or in a closet with room for a hanging rod above it. I also like other LG, and that it has a robust app, to go with it. The LG also has a drawer that you can put under neath for storage and even a small laundry basket. I saw one of these at a Best Buy in person, so that is what I would choose.
I want one of these all in ones, but it seems they're not ready yet.Maybe another 5-10 years? I hope my 7 year old Whirlpool Modular Washer holds up another 7 so I can get one of these. Otherwise I'll end up probably getting a speed queen.
i want one of these, but having to take it apart to clean the coils is just stupid. If you need to clean the coils, there should be an access door that doesn't require teardown of the machine.
Team GE. I converted my 2nd floor linen closet into a 2nd floor laundry closet. It's a tight fit and that GE weighs a ton. The first thing I did out the box was mount an appliance moving wheel base to its bottom so I can slide out for service when needed. That worked out perfectly. Next up is a floor drain for a flood contingency. Noteworthy to mention is a couple years ago I spent a month in Italy and my place provided a very small wash unit in the kitchen. Why do our washers have to be so huge? I have been looking for something similar in the States since. I was looking at offereing from Miele but then GE came out. I think in another 10 years we might get smaller version.
Can I ask who installed your floor drain for you? Yourself, a general contractor, a plumber? Interested in this as I don't know of any pans that would fit underneath one of these
@@TT-rk8mi I am a DIY'R and most of my projects are one off hacks that come to me as I go. Keep is mind that afixed to my GE unit is a rolling base which adds about 4" of clearance. The back wall of my laundry closet is adjacent bathroom which has been demoed for walk in shower. So it is still very much a BIG work in progress. My idea is to add a raised platform to the closet floor atop of the hardwood floor and inset a floor drain into the platform between it and the actual floor. Run a drainage tube which will be conneted with shower drainage system. I will seal the hardwood with a watertight membrane. Prehaps a 30mil PVC shower pan liner. Or I might even just put epoxy down over the hardwood. You seem to know something about floor pans, I will appreciate any feed back.
Ah gotcha, thanks for the input. I live in a 4th floor condo with concrete floors so unfortunately a flush drain isn’t possible. Could do it without a drain technically as there is no wet zone requirement but afraid of a leak damaging units below. Hoping the contractor can do a platform as you were saying. One contractor said yes but has been dragging his feet so hope this next guy can also. This new washer dryer closet is next to a bathroom I’m remodeling too so this setup would be perfect if it can be pulled off 🤞the worry about leak is having me lean toward the GE
Great video. Have you done any testing (or maybe you know the answer without needing to test) on if two of these units can be connected to a single water line? I was thinking of buying TWO of the washer/dryer combos, but my laundry room only has one water line. Not sure if this would work it I staggered the start times of this this would not be practice as different loads would move at different timeframes.
Sounds like by the time my non-smart, basic, bland appliances die, there will be combo units on v5.0 that are worth buying... Did I mention it only cost me $7 to replace the belt on my dryer drum four years ago?
It would be really nice if you would do a review on the Samsung combo washer and dryer since it has larger capacity than both of these is it any good? Samsung claims it uses half the power of other makers units and half the water. It also has some really deep discounts right now.
Based on neighbors’ with Samsung eqt. reports, Samsung doesn’t support parts or repairs in our area. Anecdotal, but our local appliance repair service doesn’t service Samsung bc they have such a hard time getting parts. So, for us anyway, really no point in buying any Samsung eqt. until Samsung gets that sorted.
We love it, but having problem is that it keeps drying. It said 12 minutes, then it goes to 5 min, then back to 18 minutes. It could stay on all night and never shut off if i did not. Samsung is confused of what causes it but may be a sensor. Otherwise it works really well and a spacesaver with no stupid gas or lint output.
I had the LG signature which was one of the previous LG washer dryer combos with a heat pump. It also had the water spout that “cleaned the coils”, but as was mentioned, not sufficent. After about 1 year when I cleaned the coils they were completely gummed up with lint (maybe 100 loads). The washer/dryer wouldn’t dry at this point, hence the one year warranty. Until a company makes the coils easily cleanable without spending 6 hours taking the unit apart, and one or two time screws in sheet metal that strip, these systems will not be maintainable. Or build in a maintenance plan where a technician automatically shows up to disassemble and clean the coils every 50 loads, these will not work for the average American home.
Update on 2 GE Profile Combo Units... as of today, approximately 50 to 60 loads have been run in each unit with 0 buildup of "anything" on the Coil / Condenser! The modified filters have 0 issues. I vacuum the filters minimum once a week or when the machine notifies to do it. Once a week for me is laundry for 5 people across both machines. I continue to post videos of the modified filters during the cleaning process and inspect the modifications, and they are holding up Excellent. I will be putting together kits to be sold for the people that do not want to source the items and make everything fit on their own. I will prepare pre-done Kits of everything that is needed with simple instructions to follow that will take no more than 5 to 10 Minutes to complete. Kits as of now will start at $35- + Shipping. Includes pre-cut weather stripping for Top and Bottom, Weather stripping for the Rear, and a choice of upgraded Filter Pad. Electrostatic style or Merv 8 Style Media is white color on entry side, and (tacky) surface on exit side. The tacky surface stops the finer particles from passing through the filter. The pads are washable, however as of 2 months on them, vacuuming is working just fine. For the best protection, you can just replace them every 4 to 6 months also. The tacky surface will collect the finest of lint and keep it out of the coil without causing restriction of airflow. The primary screen is the biggest area that needs to be kept clean. Latest addition to the Filter also includes Plastic hold down washers to keep the pad centered and locked in place so no gaps can occur in the housing. I spent a lot of time and money to make this bullet proof, and it keeps my OCD in check LOL. Contrary to what end users believe, if you do not modify the filter, cleaning it after every load will actually cause more problems. The reason for this is lint is getting on or past the upper and lower rail assembly and working its way past the filter. Every time you pull out the filter, clumps of lint will get by or shoved to the rear of the assembly which cannot easily be seen or cleaned.
Hellooo today is my lucky day! my GE ultrafast will be delivered next weekend and I've heard about the lint clogs 😮 How can I purchase your custom filter?
Off topic a bit... Of all new washer/driers combo or separate sets, which are the most efficient, time wise, so that a family of 5 can get the wash done quickly and the clothes come out clean and are nearly bone dry instead of damp? (edit) Oh, and I'm not interested in any models that require an online account of any kind where the manufacturer can simply decide they aren't supporting that model after 4 years turning those units into very large door stops, or where the manufacturer can institute some kind of DRM to require you use their brand of detergent or whatever, like HP has done with their printers.
If you must do all laundry in a day, a combo unit is not for you. If you are able to start a load 2-3 nights a week, that will make things work. I've actually shifted my laundry to during the week, ready to fold in the morning. No more is done on the weekend, and I appreciate having that time back.
can I be first in line for the undoubted lack of human effort returns? I really think just swapping the LG Motor in the back of the GE unit would make it the best. and crackercheese > pizzapretzel, imho.
Awesome video Ben!!! I'm about to pick my WM6998 up soon (been on display at my store lol) and I'm excited. One thing I've been reading, both in discussions and in the LG service information, is that maximum spin speed is only used on the "AI Wash & Dry" mode, whereas "Wash & Dry" is limited to I think 1100 rpm? I forget... Almost feels like LG trying to punish us old-heads who subconsciously avoid the modes with marketing buzzwords. lmao!
@@bensappliancesandjunk that's actually really good to hear, cause I'm still probably going to pick the mode without AI because I know my brain subconsciously knows it's a marketing buzzword. Lmao
Hey @Bens Appliances and Junk, thanks so much for these videos. I got an one of these LG's delivered this week and like it so far. Question for you, I noticed that a small number of the heat pump coils were damaged and bent in. Obviously this was done in it's installation in the factory. Is that something you would look to have the unit replaced over?
The GE drum is higher, which is better to put things in and out. 17:02 Rougly comparable numbers, exept GE is faster. Thanks for including a comparison chart, much appreciated.
As a tech i would never tell them tonwash mixed loads like this. I know your testing them but i believe they would perform better drying wise if you didnt stuff them and or put in mixed fabrics.
I believe I mentioned intentionally stuffing them to show what happens when you do that, drying-wise. Otherwise, the comforter was done intentionally because of the sheer number of people asking for me to do that by itself.
@@chublezI have a laundry sorter in the bedroom, plus a couple of foldable wire hampers. Sorter gets underwear in the bag on the left, medium weight clothing in the middle one, towels linens and blue jeans in the one on the right. Bras and delicates go in the two wire hampers. Come the weekend, I do 3-5 loads. I often combine the underwear with some medium weight items depending on how much I have. I often wash the jeans separately from the linens because the jeans are usually so much dirtier and usually I can't fit it all in one load anyway. Bras go in lingerie bags and washed together with the delicates. I like my current setup with a Speed Queen toploader and an old Whirlpool gas drier. These combo units look really interesting, but I don't trust them for reliability/longevity, repairability, or phone app compatibility/support. Give me an electromechanical device for simplicity and longevity.
Can have something on drying for 4 hours and still not all the way dry and also too I don't know how you're supposed to do the GE shake on a king size comforter I throw my shoulder out.
I hate my GE being taller, yet it still has a flat usable top compared to the LG which has the stupid dryer filter on top which then rules out putting a counter or anything else above it. I do not know about the LG, but I do not like the GE filter always feeling damp when it is being cleaned, or the clothes feeling slightly damp when they are removed. My old Maytag dryer was awesome for putting coats and clothes in for a few minutes to warm / freshen them up, yet the GE at least this is impossible. It also seems to take much longer to do some simple functions.
GE needs to engineer a self-cleaning lint system. Perhaps a liquid washer system that cleans out the lint into a filter catch between washes to absolutely prevent any and all buildup. I'd like ot add these 110V GE units into rental apartmetns without having to had a 220V circuit put in (ie changing to an entirely new 400 amp service and panel!) and without having to add a dryer vent to the outside too. But I cannot trust this machine to tenants who won't clean it deeply every week or so.
I saw that there were reports of the GE producing a chemical smell for many weeks of initial usage. Did you run into that at all or hear reports of it?
I never add extra rinse cycles to the LG. We have run over 60 loads, and I never felt like there was soap that wasn't rinsed. Went to this from separate washer and dryer units, and after over a month, I have not seen an increase in our water usage.
This is very convenient because if you buy two machines, you could double the speed of washing and drying. have one load of dark clothes have another load of light clothes in the other machine.. no more unloading out the washer to put in the dryer.
The GE 2-in-1 had been a godsend, so much so, I bought one... But Home Depot messed up six times, and with negotiations, Home Depot gifted us another GE 2-in-1. Holy shit, washing a weeks load of laundry takes literally 2 hours.
I think a huge issue that is overlooked is the fact that it uses a refrigerant style compressor which in 2025 the US has banned manufacturing of hcfc refrigerant style machines and existing machines must be sold by end of 2026. That's not to say you won't be able to get refrigerant for maybe the next 5 years but you will pay an astronomical amount if your system is leaking. Basically this style washer dryer design is obsolete within a year that is unless both GE and LG swap over to the mildly flammable refrigerant if they haven't already. That's not including the fact if refrigerant leaks out over time and there are a lot more moving parts in the machine as opposed to a standard coil dryer. I think it's a great concept, but very expensive if needed to be serviced. Don't get me wrong I love what this washer dryer is looking to achieve however I think the future looks very grim for it based on the ruling in 2020 on hcfcs. If you're looking to get a washer dryer like this style I would wait perhaps another 5 years before pulling the trigger on one.
Oh please don't give the GE to a family! I've been without a working washer dryer unit since December 9, waiting on a call for the delivery date of my third unit already. They told me they will not give me a refund they have a thousand units in stock and will keep sending me new units if I have a broke one. Keep in mind I have to remove my exterior door to get it inside my home.
Why is the LG Signature washer dryer combo unit never included in this? It’s been around for years and I’ve had it for awhile. It’s got some real issues but the LG Signature team has tried to take good care of us.
@@bensappliancesandjunkHere is the Model Number: LUWM101HWA But yes indeed. It has no dryer vent hook up and as I understand it uses the water to cool the radiator too cool and recirculate the air. I assume its the same on these new models? Also theres a distinct lack of information and fixes for this LG Signature Washer Dryer unit. I currently have an internal leak error thats disabled mine. It also makes an odd scraping sound during drying. It also has no dry lent catch like the new units you've covered. Instead you have to clean the drain plug regularly and it has lots of problems with getting clogged by things. I had a nickle get caught in mine and dug it out with a fridge/furnace dust removal cleaning brush. I even have an unbent hanger I use to dislodge hairballs and things from it on the regular so it can drain again. All that said, I talked to my wife and we'd be willing to maybe provide you my unit for SCIENCE and research content if you'd like-- We even have the discontinued pedestal washer unit as well thats been our trusty savior with the main unit disabled from the internal leak issue. When the main unit goes down we can still do small washes and air dryer them around the house. Anyhow, I'd be happy to figure out a way to get it to you if you're interested, I just started my 2nd job with the first goal of getting the new LG Washer Dryer combo unit to replace it as soon as I can accumulate enough cash for it.
@@bensappliancesandjunk I sent you a reply earlier but it might have been hidden because of the length and/or included Model Number of the LG signature Unit but it does indeed have a heat pump dryer system! If you can view my message I offered mine to you as its currently disabled due to an internal leak error. If you're interested let me know! Thank you for your content!
I would say if you get washing machine buy LG ..If you cannot affored the think Q ..! Get the LG Direct drive 7kg to 9kg models ! I just got it as exchange washer 🎉! The best ever washer i have had !
I bought the LG WM4388HS 2.3 cu. ft. washer/dryer combo....what a dud. Within 4 years, right after warranty expiration, I had to pay $370 dollars to repair the drum. Flash forward to today, 8/14/2024, and it's broken for the second time, which will cost, at best, another $370 to repair! Really disappointed.
Hello Ben. Just wondering why you used plus water on the comforter instead of just letting the AI do its thing? Also, on the towels, why is it the dry time a separate event on the LG? Doesn’t the wash/dry run automatically?
You are correct. On the LG, if he had hit the Dry button on the right side, before starting the Bedding cycle and the Towel cycle, it would have added the Dry cycle. No need to run separate cycles.
GE is the clear winning because it carries a five year warranty on the part that can and probably will fail before anything else. LG's one year warranty should be a deal breaker for anyone considering that model.
Hyundai / Kia were advertising some of the best warranties in the business a while back, problem is nearly all of their engines had issues. Same logic here. what's the point of a long warranty if your machine is constantly down or broken? Doesn't matter if they fix it for free it's still broken. Bought my LG direct from their site -- added a pedestal, and 3 year extended warranty (4 years total coverage on whole machine) for less than the cost of a GE profile by itself. Same or better coverage and accessories, more reliability, less money. The fact you say "clear winner" based on warranty alone is an excellent example of extreme bias. You fixate on one thing that's subjectively important and ignore all other factors. I'd highly suggest going down the rabbit hole of the GE's lint bypass issue that's starting to make itself known to heavy users of the GE Profile.
@@toxin440 have u not seen the videos that state the LG version also has a smaller heat pump system compared to the GE? Have u not seen the videos talking about how lint is also able to get past the filtering system on the LG? This alone is a huge problem with the LG. I say that because at least I can clean any lint I see that might be on the condenser of my GE which means I can use a long brush to remove lint. This is not an option with the LG because you can't get to the condenser. Now what are you going to do besides fully take the machine apart?
@@spazzman90 your Hyundai comment is pretty moot. Sure, I have heard of some people having issues with their drive trains but that's why Hyundai has their 10 year 100K mile warranty to cover any possible issues. Who keeps their vehicle longer than those periods these days? I'd bet a very small amount.
@@Ozzie4Para heh - you are obsessed with size huh? Guess you ignored the heat pump specs that show the actual BTU/hr and efficiency of each. "hurrr durrr bigger must be better right" Whole point of this tech in these appliances is efficiency.
I am leaning toward the GE to go into my tiny home. I am hearing from friends not to consider the combos because they collect and have issues with internal lint. They are saying repair service providers recommend never to purchase one due to the internal lint issue. Please advise on the issue with that issue.
19:53 "Both will need cleaned about every 50 leads". This means disassembling the machine and violating the warranty every 50 loads? Or do I misunderstand?
You know you're getting there when the manufacturers start to reach out to you about your videos. Whether they like what you say or object, they know that people listen to you - which means you're doing good work. You should have *far* more subscribers than you do.
You know that Maytag Man Costume goes along way in public relations. It incompasses miliions of dollars and 50+ years of free publicity. That is a brilliant marketing ploy on Ben's behalf.

Nice!
You can download an overnight cycle for the LG which keeps the clothes tumbling after they dry until you get back to them. Good feature. No wrinkles.
I can't wrap my head around yall just now discovering condenser dryers....
@@Progan666 this isn't a condenser dryer as you know it. These both use heatpumps and evaporator coils to condense the water, not ambient air.
We have had the GE for 8 months now and it’s been great with no issues!!
Same!! I love it
We love our GE combo unit. We don’t use softener so it’s super clean in the inside! Just stay ahead of the lint; like you have to do with ANY dryer!
How is it so far been almost a year now for you ?
Still works great! Clean the filters. Pretty much it. Works like a champ. We average 70 cycles every 90 days.
Agreed. No more "laundry days" waiting for the machines to finish just so I can sit around to swap clothes. Honestly changed my life.
What was the introductory price.

That’s very altruistic of you for giving away your LG! 🤙
Putting one of these in my master bath, took out the huge whirlpool tub, perfect replacement! No 220v and no vent needed!
Neat!
I think you mean 240v.
That too, ha! @@Resist4
@@SteveSherman-ij5gm it’s not the same thing. There was a reason why they went from 110v/220v to 120v/240v.
Currently in the process of returning my GE Ultrafast
escalate the service ticket to the CCP Consumer Affairs Dept.
Curious, did they replace the pump the 1st visit?
Did they Flush the assembly before they installed the same or new pump?
Possibly you have a bad pump and cleaning it is not the solution. Have it replaced.
What the hell are you washing that is shedding so much of its fabric ? Do you have large long hair dog(s) or cat(s) ?
Our GE profile front loader died after 8 months and GEs warranty isn’t worth the paper it’s written on never again . Speed queens only from now on .
Did you get the WM6998?

Thanks!
Ben keep your awesome videos coming. Love all your videos as they are very informative. Thank you
Glad you like them! I'm gonna do a refrigerator video soon like this. Got a Samsung I want to tear apart and judge, hehe
A note for viewers, he could have added the Dry Cycle to the Bedding setting as well as the Towel setting, by touching the Dry button at the right and adding it to the wash cycle before starting the load. No reason to come back after wash to run a dry.
I came to the comments to see if there was extra info on that. Thank you! I thought that was crazy!
Why didn't he do it is the question.
@@sjf1232 I'm in year one so all parts and labor are covered. After one year they'll cover the part, but not the labor for an additional 4 years.

I'm curious... what's leaving you undecided about it?
We just returned a brand new GE. It needed a new control unit right out of the box. Our repairman said they get lots of warranty calls on the newer GE washers and dishwashers. Was really disappointed as we wanted it to work.
Please keep in contact with the family you donate the GE too. Maybe if they are okay with it you can do a 1 yr check up to see how the machine is holding up. Same would be great with the LG.
My main interest in picking one is the no longer having to move heavy wet clothes or forgetting clothes then having to rerun it.

Glad I bought it over the GE.

the most worrying part is that some companies have proprietary boards installed that controls the machine and only their personal are allowed to fix/replace these at a very high price. Not sure but i think it is Siemens.
This was a great review of these devices. Love the facts and data! Nice job!
I wonder how these machines compare to heatpump wash and driers elsewhere in the world, like Panasonic for asia (did release in very small quantities at a short period of time outside of asia) or AEG for europe
This isn't new tech but it seems like manufacturers finally caught on how popular the concept would end up being in the US
By the way, I also have to have a appliance repair technician come out here multiple times replace parts have to take off work multiple hours and contact GE which requires at least an hour on hold before you are able to speak with anyone.
Ben,
I caught the total water usage between the two. Question:
1) Does the Extra Water option on the GE (+3 gal to main wash and to rinse cycles) add *noticeably* more water in the tub?
You have to sort clothes by type, like cottons and things that absorb a lot of water vs polyester blends that don't.
I agree on the presentation of the dimensions.
Ben, this is the model you refer to at 25:55 in the video, right? So, do you have any input on this?
I had the ge after the 3 weeks the compressors went bad and i had to return it
Nice!
YES to the Buffalo Blue Cheese! Those Combos are my go-to for road trips. 😄
Would be interesting to see how well the unit would work if it had an external HE like a mini split system.
Thank an engineer😂
My Electrolux washer requires a teardown to empty the coin filter 🙄.
Check out the LG WM1455 and the matching 60cm "euro-size" heat pump dryer, DLHC1455.
@@TT-rk8mi Or just to keep everything flush I might put the drain right into the hardwood floor run the drain connection and epoxy the whole thing.
I wonder if the next iterations will be better when it comes to cleaning filters and lint build up on the heat shield
I might be wrong, but I think the LG lawsuit chaos is around the linear compressor, not rotary style.
You are correct. But everyone wanted me to mention it or discuss it from the last video, so I mentioned it here
We love it, but having problem is that it keeps drying. It said 12 minutes, then it goes to 5 min, then back to 18 minutes. It could stay on all night and never shut off if i did not. Samsung is confused of what causes it but may be a sensor. Otherwise it works really well and a spacesaver with no stupid gas or lint output.
They had them that did both in the UK for years. Maybe because of how small Flats are in the UK.
@@dawnc477 should have available within the week.
What area are you located…
Great, I'm in Massachusetts
@@dawnc477 Ben has done amazing incredible job educating us on these new machines. He’s the best in tear down and detailed information.
Is the lg better or the other washer dryer ?
I forget... Almost feels like LG trying to punish us old-heads who subconsciously avoid the modes with marketing buzzwords. lmao!
It's easily modified to v high spin. I did not see anything in my tests that made me think the AI gated the spin speed
@@bensappliancesandjunk that's actually really good to hear, cause I'm still probably going to pick the mode without AI because I know my brain subconsciously knows it's a marketing buzzword. Lmao
@@dregenius AI is most definitely not a marketing buzzword.
Absolutely AI is a buzzword. It’s just software, zeros and ones at the end of the day.
No, you can get a fin brush to re arrange them and proper cleaning may move them, so getting the brush is going to be needed almost regardless
I gave you a thumbs up just because of the laugh at the Buffalo Blue Cheese! lol
As a consumer. You can bring yer tech self over and sort my fabrics. Ain't nobody got time for that.
What makes you say you would rather have 2 units vs an all in one if you have the space?
Can have something on drying for 4 hours and still not all the way dry and also too I don't know how you're supposed to do the GE shake on a king size comforter I throw my shoulder out.
Just bought the newest LG model WM3998HBA only, now excited for this new wash combo for my new laundry area on upper floor whoot
The 3998 is not new by any measure I can think of... that model is like, 6 or 7 years old now.
I push the "extra dry" button on big loads on my GE and I find it totally dries with only about 10-15 extra minutes.
Did you run into that at all or hear reports of it?
man the water use is insane with lg, i am on low producing well, at first i was leaning lg but with the water use ge definetly would be the choice
Note I used multiple extra rinses. The normal loads between both machines were idenical
I never add extra rinse cycles to the LG. We have run over 60 loads, and I never felt like there was soap that wasn't rinsed. Went to this from separate washer and dryer units, and after over a month, I have not seen an increase in our water usage.
when will we get a heat pump dryer only??
That already exists
I was going to make a joke about the tortilla shell combos, but apparently they discontinued them... *flips table*
How about the Samsung Bespoke?
This is very convenient because if you buy two machines, you could double the speed of washing and drying. have one load of dark clothes have another load of light clothes in the other machine.. no more unloading out the washer to put in the dryer.
If you can afford two of these, just hire someone to do you laundry. Yikes appliances are getting expensive!
Does it have a heat pump in it?
@@bensappliancesandjunk LG signature line washer dryer combo has had heat pump since 2016
@@bensappliancesandjunkHere is the Model Number: LUWM101HWA But yes indeed.

How about the KOOLMORE 2.7 cu. ft. All-in-One Washer and Dryer Combo?
Hey! Would recommend an agitator or impeller? I’ve always had an agitator but getting ready to buy new washer
Please review the LUWM101HWA. I would really like to know if it's worth it. The price is so high but the compact feature is so enticing.
Hello Ben. Just wondering why you used plus water on the comforter instead of just letting the AI do its thing?
Also, on the towels, why is it the dry time a separate event on the LG? Doesn’t the wash/dry run automatically?
I had people ask specifically for those kinds of washes, so I decided to use it on those loads
You are correct. On the LG, if he had hit the Dry button on the right side, before starting the Bedding cycle and the Towel cycle, it would have added the Dry cycle. No need to run separate cycles.
Can you do a review on LG's stackable washer/dryer?
Yup
GE is the clear winning because it carries a five year warranty on the part that can and probably will fail before anything else. LG's one year warranty should be a deal breaker for anyone considering that model.
I'll take a short warranty machine with solid rep vs a long warranty with a weak rep. Same reason I don't buy Hyundais.
You were mixing your LGs and GEs up when talking about the weight.
No, just cleaning the filter housing with a vaccum
Buffalo Blue Cheese is an excellent choice. Well done.
