The pain Lawrence goes through during the transformation and the popping of his joints/bones are great attention to details. A visually stunning film with an incredible cast makes this the best modern version of a classic horror film.

John Landis was the first to show how painful a change is with An American werewolf in London.
I think, in part, Lawrence is fighting the change.

Yes. I like how they stayed true to the look of the original wolfman but with a modern take on it. I like this movie a lot. But I still like the original wolfman better.

I love how Lawrence singles out the doctor in the crowd. Notice how he just *shoves* the other men aside. Probably one of the few times both him and the Wolf had the same objective.
I've read a few interpretations that speculate that Lawrence's wolf is just an animal hunting its prey where his father is the true monster; note that the only time the wolf actually ATTACKS people he's either dealing with people Lawrence personally hates, such as the doctor and his father, or people who actively attacked him first.

Its basically of who's laughing now kind of thing.
@@jimhershey5487 The best part is that the doctor mocked Lawrence's mental condition stating that "The chances of him turning into a werewolf are as much likely as the doctor sprouting wings and flying out of the window". One of the most underrated Victorian horror films made. People can't seem to distinguish a good movie based on a driven story from one based around special effects.
Special effects should enhance a film, or be invisible. These are distracting, even the “invisible” ones.

"Good old days, when cgi was used properly"
It wasn't cgi it wa a costume
@@simoregragui3647 It was cgi on the transformation and during some fights, which is how it's meant to be used
@@DaniielPineda The movie does some less-than-stellar moments of CGI, though. Chief example being the infamouse scene with the terrible looking CGI bear.
On the other hand, they originally fully intended to have more practical effects shots, but the movie ran into all sorts of production problems and delays (they literally hired a director like a week before starting filming, which is madness) and doing was impossible.
Preach.
@@yrenekurtz5268
About your comment on the CGI bear; I do agree that it was a really bad CGI effect, like really bad, but at the same time wild animals such as bears, lion, chimpanzees and even dolphins are difficult to film. No matter how hard you try to tame these beasts, it’s difficult to shoot an actual wild animal to do simple tasks. Not to mention they are costly considering you need several, well experienced trainers and handlers, even then they rarely accept their animals to be filmed in dangerous ways due to animal right laws. Sometimes, CGI is the safest way. May not be the most practical way, but at the end of the day, you’ll end up saving your face from being torn or bitten off by a towering bear!
Remember when werewolfs were cursed monsters and not just cgi wolfs who turn into teenagers.
you like werewolfs best as cursed monster or as a species?
Oliver Castillo Either, I suppose really I’m just looking for a werewolf that is actually a werewolf. If it’s a species that looks half man half wolf then I’m cool with it. I just prefer it when they are actually monsters wether by curse or birth. They are supposed to be intimidating predators. When I see modern “werewolfs” I just roll my eyes because they just turn into a wolf off camera. I like the idea of them being cursed, more I think because it opens up a lot of other options in that story.
@@TheGreatDreamer1937 I agree with you. Now many films and TV shows are turning romanticized characters from supernatural beings, it infuriates. Now they practically do not release films where they are who they should be, monsters, killers.

hizpanicGam3r I used to think so, too. But you can see when a movie is about a wolfman, the face is short and pretty close to human proportions. Werewolves have the longer snout, more like a dog. Wolfmen are pretty muscular and tough, but they mostly keep the basic human form. Werewolves do, too, but their body structure is usually much more muscular and sometimes a bit more stretched out. One of my favorite Wolf movies...they did a great job!
Lost count of how many times I have watched this.
The transformation is awesome, the tension building great, the music even better.
Although, I must admit I am not enthusiastic by the werewolves' appearance. Don't get me wrong, I think they look good, they are gruesome and terrifying enough to make anyone sh*t their pants.
But I can't truly and deeply appreciate the fact they still look too much like an ape rather than a wolf.
Yet, y'all may argue they're half wolf half human and humans are primates, so it's okay if they have an ape-like looking. Maybe it's me being too used to werewolf with wolf heads so this seems weird.
All an' all, they still made a great job also considering there's more make up and practical action than cgi at work here, like an "old school in modern times" kind of monster.
