Please be mindful that we will pause (we prefer to react in the moment & to avoid copyright strike), we will react with enthusiasm, smiles, tears, conversation, exchanged looks and air-instruments. We are expressive by nature and are truly very quirky in every sense of the word. This is who we are and this is what we’ve got to offer. We understand it may not be for everyone, but here's to hoping you all enjoy and we absolutely love positive comments and feedback.

Nick - thanks so much for reacting to this one! I’ve seen it hundreds of times and still get emotional every time as well. Loved your point about how much you can tell he’s feeling the music. At the time of this performance, he was approaching 27 and had become a superstar. He could have kept touring and releasing singles from the Purple Rain album, but he needed to move onto the next project (Around the World in a Day). His bandmates at the time have said that he was tired of playing these songs at this point, but I love that he never ever just phoned in a performance. He always cared so much about the audience’s experience and his own love of music, and this epic performance is a result of that. I am so appreciative of you indulging my Prince obsession with these reactions and am really enjoying your thoughts and insight as you experience these performances for the first time. I think I need to request a piano focused performance next.
I would love to hear your solo!!!Thanks again 💜💜💜
Thank you so much for the info and support JJ!! 💜 Expect that solo soon!! 😉
ThX JJlovesPrince & Nick. I remember when I first heard this song I had to immediately figure out those amazing chords with the ringing open strings. Such a powerful draw then and still. Cheers 🎵
It’s a telecaster just not fender
I still have my ticket stub from the Purple Rain Tour in Seattle, Valentine's Day, 1985 (6 weeks before this taping!), with Sheila E. My first and to this day, THE BEST concert I've ever been to. I even save a purple glow stick, from Halloween, to swing around

*Now you gotta react to *PRINCE SOMEWHERE HERE ON EARTH LIVE ON JAY LENO".*
when the e-guitar starts i get goosebubs everywhere
Such a great performance! Prince was the most amazing human. His musicality is unmatched! I am very much enjoying your Prince journey. I look forward to the next one and hearing your thoughts.
Prince's cover of "Motherless Child" is worth checking out, as is his acoustic version of "Cream". I would also recommend his Superbowl halftime show. Great stuff.
Glad you were able to get to this live performance!!! I was fortunate to see Prince two nights in a row on this Purple Rain tour in January 1985. Phenomenal performances!!!
I was lucky enough to see him live over 20 times and attended a few after shows and after parties. He's absolutely the greatest performer I've ever seen🤩💜
It was 16 minutes of pure greatness. Damn near froze to death waiting outside to get in line to the Detroit show in 85 ….totally worth it.
Nick if you haven’t watched the clips of Prince live at the Montreux Jazz Festival, I think you will really enjoy them. Amazing guitar work and a lot of heart. Particularly the performances of Empty Room and Little Red Corvette. These clips from later in his career show how Prince was at the top of his game until the very end. Simply amazing performances.
Empty Room is so awesome I watch it once a week. No joke!!💜💜💜
I was at this concert! Still gives me goosebumps!!!💜💜💜
Wow that's amazing!! :)
Wanda, I feel like I am following you around, but it's just a mutual love of Prince. Hope you have a very Merry Christmas and not "Another Lonely Christmas."
@@cryptozoomauler5505great minds think alike lol. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year 💜💜💜
The guy leaves me stunned and speechless every time.Wow!
How nice. I heard the song for the first time in the movies in 1984. In the movie “Purple Rain”
I was too young to see the movie, so I heard it first on the radio.
Most EPIC performance........
How good was that!
Prince was incredible live!
I watch this performance with mixed emotions knowing Purple Rain was the last piece Prince performed in Atlanta before he died. Prince goes all in and when you think it’s over he calls 1,2,3,4 he comes back for one last amazing display of his genius. The crowd continues to sing as a thank you back to Prince for his total commitment to his craft. Prince was and still is unmatched. He was the Mozart of our generation.
The first guitar he’s using isn’t a Telecaster, it’s a Hohner Madcat that he used his entire career.
The Purple Rain solo was different every night.
Nick, you are a good soul.
The Greatness in Prince's guitar playing is the feel, tone, passion, and rhythm/melody.
There's so much more 4 u 2 c ! Try Motherless Child for some more guitar genius 💜
Absolutely brilliant. Such a talented man in every way.
Princes cover of Just My Imagination from the small club live show 1988 is my favorite performance of his and possibly the greatest guitar solo of all time. Check it out
Just My Imagination by Prince was the most sought after bootleg in the 80's. It was definitely worth the find. You must listen to it!!!
He was a goat. Like the studio version on this song.
I am 64 years old, and music is my everything. I'm a sort of a JJLovesPrince, I guess. Go see my one very bad, boring video presentation. :) Or, my "best of" playlist holding 487 Prince videos. Not trying to get views or likes, that is a lost cause. It's info.
So, in my lifetime, the A+ talent I have seen is this: Beatles, Prince, Ren. That is it. No disrespect to the "A" list bands, I live them too. Huge Stones and Pink Floyd fan myself (and Little Feat!). You've not yet dived down the Ren rabbithole beyond Hi Ren, I see. He's a do-it-yourselfer, like McCartney and Prince.
💜 Thanks JJ! This is my favorite performance of this song. 💜
Well, it’s time to do his superbowl halftime show🤷♀️💜😍🔥
The Ride from Bagleys Warehouse wink.
I like the one from House of Blues.
The best purple rain performance was during the Brit awards 2006.
Fury on SNL his best performance. Shh from Hong Kong amazing too.
Best performance?
It's by far not his best rendition of Purple Rain or other performances of his. I have never felt this ‘Endless Purple Rain’ as I have felt others. I never found it at the level of his talent for the time, let alone his career; the more experience he gained, the better his concerts were. I've been a Prince fan since the early 80s, I've managed to see him 3 times live in Spain, I have all his official discography and dozens of bootlegs, lots of VHS, DVDs and BRs: this, to me, was the giving of a messianic moment to the fans. And nothing else of transcendence...
Prince broke all possible predictions about what to do on stage and make it an experience; fun, superhuman, visceral, passionate and hypnotic.
I would have loved to see/listen to him playing with Jimi Hendrix. That would have been a duo in heaven.
Hey mate, great reaction. I bought this concert on VHS back in 86 when it was televised here in 85. I've still got it! And I've still got my sign o the times, under the cherry moon and Graffitti bridge VHS tapes. Not showing off, just stating I'm a hoarder!! hahaa. The solo in this is other worldy, still to this day. His cloud guitar was something I hadn't seen before and He had a black one on the parade tour and the blue angel on the lovesexy tour...my first concert. I'm such an oldie now but when I see this... I'm back in my early teens. Cheers man.
I remember someone brought the tape of the album to Abu Dhabi (where I was working) when it first came out. It really impressed me as to the talent of the guy. Amazing movie too. Such a sad loss to the music world. Check out the Concert for George on YT. Some great jamming.
I felt the ghost of Jimi Hendrix was there 😊
Yes he channeled Hendrix as every guitar player since has done but Bill Nelson's guitar playing on Be-Bop Deluxe's Crying To The Sky is all over this song, could be why this is the only song by Prince that I like, everything else is just pop. He should have done more of this kind of music but he's the artist and is allowed to go his own way.
saludos fenomeno Dresde Argentina
You and Lex should watch the movie. There's another character in the movie that plays his rival who is a talented performer in his own right. That would be Morris Day(Morris Day and the Time). He adds a lot of humor to the movie.
I’ve watched this a million times before it even made to RUclips bro. Don’t worry about the quality. I’m more interested in your reaction.
Fentanyl a real terror.
Agreed. Somebody knew what they were giving him and gave it to him anyway. Horrible.

Is
Purely on his guitar playing, don't even mention his name in the same sentence as Jimi Hendrix, as you would be insulting Hendrix. His soloing here is cliche'd & boring, uninspired & sounds like a rookie who has learned a few tricks, but nothing else. Prince was a very talented artist & songwriter, very creative & a wonderful performer live. He was certainly capable of playing impressive guitar solos, but he was never in the same realm, or the same universe, in terms of creativity, mastery of a guitar, or inspiration to other guitarists, or technical ability as Jimi Hendrix & to try and suggest otherwise just demonstrates ignorance of what real guitar creativity & influence is. I get, and support a person's right to prefer Prince's music to anybody else, and to really admire his style of guitar playing as opposed to any other guitarist, but not to say that he belongs even on the same list as Hendrix regarding ability as a guitarist. Jimi is so far beyond anything Prince could produce on a guitar that it's like they're not even playing the same instrument. I'm old enough to remember this song when it first came out. I really liked & I have heard it played beautifully. I was looking forward to this video after all the build up, but could not believe how poorly it was performed. Just lazy, going through the motions, overdoing the screaming bit & the cliche'd guitar soloing. He was infinitely better than this performance & I truthfully believe that a real Prince fan, a true Prince fan will know I'm telling the truth.
Before we get into this: Are you a guitar player? Because I have played half of my life and let me tell you I learned Hendrix when I was still a teen. Very easy, very freaking choppy and easy to master. I know he is on this pedestal but I don't care. If I would have said as good as Mark Knopfler, Jeff Beck, David Gilmour, Allan Holdsworth, Al Di Meola or even the likes of Santana or Mclaughlin I would agree with you. Yes, its very flashy and sometimes he misses a note or two but for the amount of instruments he plays its very damn good. If you are a guitar player you need to wake up and start playing some real chords and move out of the pentatonic shape box. If you don't play guitar you're just being a fan who has no idea what he is talking about. Ask any guitar player that is under 40 years old. Jimi was an inovator but this best in the world has gotten blown way out of proportion. Even true Hendrix fans that are actually musicians would agree with me on every point I made here. Have a good day.
you aint telling the truth dude...sorry
Prince “lazy” hahahaha 😂😅. Could you do better then?!
