I had got them for christmas and they helped my anxiety so much! I had struggled really badly but I’m better now. My mom ended up cleaning them more than me so I don’t think I was ready for them but they were amazing! I remember i had got a critter nation for my birthday because I had got two from my friend and needed a bigger cage and I saw your setup and that inspired me! I had bought the “ask me about my rats” and i wore it everyday and everywhere lol, So thank you for helping me care for my rats and give them a better life!

    I just wanted to add to the praise :P (and also comment for my first time on your videos after years now of watching and I’ll try to not write an entire novel but maybe half of one …)
    You’ve been a very important resource on my journey and I enjoy your frequent videos. You are honestly the only thing I really look at on RUclips for the last long while. Your passion for animals is definitely very inspiring to me and a lot of people! The impact you make by sharing your journey is un-describable- at least I know from an individual standpoint how much you’ve influenced me (for the better)- I loved rodents before but it was never my focus in life and I was lost for a long time- now I’m realizing it really is my calling- and I’m hoping to one day (with hard work) become a Canadian version of you, in sorts, at least in terms of educating others and developing a small pet business to further ethical pet care. I’ve written and illustrated a Basic Ethical Mouse Care Booklet (with the help of the info you’ve shared and other resources)- And I have access to printing it professionally and am hoping to make an E-version too one day. Amongst my personal pets in my pet room that I care for- I try to foster on a small scale now- here and there- and in a few weeks might be fostering (and/ or adopting, we’ll see) a couple male baby rats. Anyway this has been quite a bit for me to unload here, but I’m grateful to be able to review rat care with all your videos that sum things up nicely and also in an entertaining way! Honestly I just needed you to know, somehow, how much I really appreciate you :D Love the pet room too- by the way :P. I have a mini- less organized version of this, myself ha. Again inspiration right there :)

    I was fascinated and glued to your pet room UNTIL you showed the snake which sent me double quick to the bathroom. Snakes have always made me vomit. Your rats and mice are beautiful. I have a rather strange story. I was on my laptop one night when I felt a movement by the side of me. I looked down and standing on a wee pedal bin was a brown and white rat. It was on it's hind legs with little paws flapping away. Luckily I love rodents so I gave him a piece of biscuit. Next thing I knew he jumped on my knee, ate 2 more pieces of biscuits, and promptly fell asleep. After a couple of hours, he jumped down and scooted out of the cat flap. He does visit me occasionally. I would love to keep rats but the best cages are just too expensive

Not to mention the cockroaches! I’ve even had ants make their way into tightly sealed jars! If anyone knows of any brand of air right container that they find particularly good I’d love to know! I’ve tried a few different brands which all ended up breaking so went back to traditional screw lid jars. ❤❤

    I just wanted to suggest you look for plants that like a bit of humidity, low light and dont need excellent drainage. Unfortunately the aloe vera likely wont do well in there. Stay away from any succulents really as they generally like good drainage and plenty of light.
    For any animals that wont eat the plants, I suggest devils ivy. Its a great beginners plant and grows quickly. It likes a bit of humidity and will survive lower light levels. Its also super common and cheap to buy :)

      @@Emiology hmm have you tried fittonias? They can do well in terrariums. The easiest would prob be some air plants though. They dont need soil so drainage isnt an issue. They will cope with lower light levels too. They are pretty easy to look after too. Just mist all the leaves regularly or take them out and soak them in a bucket of water for a few hours once a week. Happy to help if you are keen to try growing plants and have any planty questions :) Otherwise, the fake plants work fine haha

Yet they still give a unpleasant waft when I walk into my room. Any tips?!

    • @Emiology
      @Emiology  Год назад +2

      Depending on the size of the cage it sounds like you might be cleaning it too much and causing them to scent mark more. It depends on a lot of factors such as what bedding you’re using and how the cage is setup, they could be peeing on a shelf etc that is causing the smell that can be solved by just removing that item

    when I look at the cramped little cells of reptiles..I wonder why you don't see how miserable they are?..which is the minimum for anyone, but I think that when adopting pets, they should be given as close to their natural living conditions as possible. Reptiles move several kilometers every day and small terrariums with nothing to do and no stimulation are just prisons. similar to what you criticize about the rat's home, where the cages have nothing to do for intelligent, mobile creatures. In general, I don't favor cages or terrariums. If you "need to keep" animals in a small area.. I recommend not getting such an animal if you imagine like this. Even the rats' cages were really small. I'm sad that in general people consider imprisoning animals in cages as "normal" and nice apartments when they put climbing areas there.. sad... sad. Of course better than mini cages without any stimulation, but still. An animal in a cage/terrarium is an animal in prison. So simple.

    • @Emiology
      @Emiology  8 месяцев назад

      I wouldn’t anthropomorphise animals too much by comparing them to us. Reptiles do not function in the same way as more intelligent species like dogs and rats, they only move around so much in the wild to search for food and avoid predators, when everything is provided for them in an optimal setup they’re not ‘miserable’ and the wild is no walk in the park for them with disease, predation and parasites. When they have everything they need they’re not miserable, better words to use for such an animal would be stressed / distressed or looking for things like stereotypical behaviours like scratching at the glass for reptiles or chewing bars for the rats. None of which any of my animals display because they’re all enriched and have their needs met. Having them in a big wide open space does nothing for them if it’s not species specific enriching, and for reptiles impossible to provide the correct heating and humidity parameters.
