I find communication and inability to comprehend what I am saying is the biggest challenge...because people will swear they understand...and yet so painfully they do not. They hear your words but somehow they keep building the wrong pictures with them, even when you're precise with your language, it feels like it has the opposite result in the end. It very much reminds me of the story of Tantalus, except with social interactions instead of food and water...And that is a far better analogy than used in video for strange connections intelligent people make between seemingly unrelated things. Or another way to put it is...I feel like a dog in a society of wolves...genetically same species yet vastly different and not very compatible socially.

@@realsteverioux That's incorrect attribution. The adage has numerous origins; ultimately taking its most popular form from Charles Stewart's 1901 autobiography quoting history scholar Henry Thomas Buckle: "Men and women range themselves into three classes or orders of intelligence; you can tell the lowest class by their habit of always talking about persons; the next by the fact that their habit is always to converse about things; the highest by their preference for the discussion of ideas." After decades of social circulation, it was arbitrarily ascribed to Eleanor Roosevelt by a Kansas newspaper in 1987. Henry Thomas Buckle is the earliest recorded originator of the whole phrase. Fitting. An aristocrat isn't any more wise than an academic is bureaucratic.

@New Vorld Sounds You don't have to change the world to qualify as someone unique. Being unique isn't something tied to your achievements or your successes, it's something granted to everyone. And leaders don't have to be different. They have to serve their followers, and they have to respect the individuality of each one. Leaders who claim to be unique are separating themselves from the people they lead. They're boasting their superiority in an attempt to make their followers feel inferior and common because they lack the "uniqueness" that only they possess. To be a true leader, you have to realize that everyone is different, and that you are not special. One of the qualities a leader should possess is humility. Knowing your weaknesses is the first step to changing them. Every single person is just as unique as you are, even if they've done nothing important with their lives. A leader is chosen by his people. And people are not mindless drones who lack individuality. They'll only choose a leader who puts the people first and himself second. This means stepping down from the pedestal you've created for yourself because you've somehow gotten the idea that people who don't strive for success, are inferior and common.
It is extremely easy for me to realise I am more intelligent than others around me. There is never anybody around me. Thus, I must be the smartest and the dumbest person in the immediate area.
Not necessarily true. I am what is called an Introvert. I spend most of my time alone and appreciate my alone time greatly. I only voice my opinion when I think it is needed. Like now. I work in the trucking business and while I'm driving, my mind is calculating very different scenarios. I find that I can drive long distances and still maintain my mental health. I am a perfectionist when it comes to certain aspects of my job too. When I'm alone and I get bored, I usually tend to think of new ideas I can put into motion to make my life better. I socialize very little and can't really stand "small talk." If you want to talk, have a reason to talk. Just because I haven't seen you in 20 years or more doesn't mean we have to talk. If that much time is long gone, maybe there was a reason we didn't talk at all.

Alone, yes. Lonely, no. I find comfort in my own thoughts, and sharing a conversation with most people leaves me with nothing gained but they always walk away with something. That's okay, I'm cool with that, I've learned to accept my social environment and be content.
Over analyzing is not really a thing when it comes to truly intelligent people. They have the ability to dive deeper in to things on a level that most can't, thus making it seem like they are over analyzing and over complicating things to others.
Here’s another sign that I notice about intelligence and smarter people: Intelligent people often understate or don’t even acknowledge their own intelligence, while less intelligent people often try to inject their knowledge where its not needed or wanted.
This is actually not entirely true. People that score higher in openness to experience (the personality trait with the highest correlation to intelligence) tend to rate themselves and their ideas as more intelligent than average. They may doubt themselves at times it acknowledge shortcomings, but they generally tend to think of themselves as intelligent. At any rate, this is one of the problems in psychology. So much of this research is not replicable and many different findings seemingly contradict other findings. I wouldn't completely disregard it, but I'd take some of this research with a grain of salt

Don't regret things. Take the experience as a usefull thing and see how now you have knowledge of what you don't agree with. Everything is knowledge and a chance to grow on top of the bad encounter. Keep your mind fresh and believe in yourself.
I hhavve regretted it many times. Have been forced to make friends by schools and such. Now I know it was not worth it in the end. Have Had friends back stab me, betray me, use me... I feel so much more peaceful in my own company.

I’m so grateful for videos like these. Thank you for the insight. I’ve been struggling with this feeling of loneliness and never being seen or heard. Lack of support makes it worse.
Book smarts/study skills have zero to do with wisdom/intelligence. I have ADD/ADHD and I typically only do excellent in university in classes that I am interested in. I am a lifelong student and take all sorts of classes with no clear end goal except for History which I hope to get a PhD in. It takes me longer to get it because I have a disability that takes constant treatments /hospitalizations. I have met the wisest intelligent people who have little to no formal schooling, people who are homeless and/or addicts, etc and not around other academics such as when I was a teacher and a TA at a university.
I felt like I was watching a video that was developed just for me. I relate to everyone of them. While watching this video it made me smile because of how correct it is in relation to me. It also explains why me and my wife don't get along. She is the exact opposite, she's the social butterfly something I am definitely not.
Definitely prefer my own company than that of others. I have became more comfortable with myself the older I have gotten. I use to fear being alone. Now I fear people dropping by because I need my alone time. Even though I’m introverted, I can still fell and be comfortable around people not awkward.
Getting along in groups was something I learned with growing older. It's like you have to play beeing more ignorant or more simple minded in some social situations. People usually dont want a complex answer to a complex problem. Imagine your behaviour in a social group (your persona) more like a quick to understand headline rather than a scientific paper. Hope that makes sense. But comes with time. :)
I'm completely relaxed around my family and I will seek their company. Being with my friends is fun, but it does take more energy. Being around other people is just stressful.

She said if you are really smart you never let on, especially to other women in the workplace, how bright you are. Just smile and nod and do your work and be glad you get paid to be there. She was right, most of my teachers and bosses were idiots. I couldn't wait to get home everyday for my alone time before hubby got off work. A kitty in my lap and whatever book I was reading at the time. Bliss.
You guys are not getting the point. The fact that you have a few or no friends at all, do not make you a genius. Socially inept people are not intelligent. What makes one intelligent is if one prefers to be alone rather than to socialize on a superficial level. Smart people know how to socialize, build networks and expand their contacts to further their ventures. But they frown upon useless, meaningless chatter, like "duh...what's you favorite sports team, or what's your sign...etc.". They would rather talk about history, politics, the stock market, real estate, art and culture in general (yeah, music and movies too). If they feel that certain people bring them down, they would rather stay at home, read, search the net, or even binge watch tv series alone, rather than adhere to the basic social paradigm.
@@hui1477 yes. If deep down they want to socialize but are prevented because of their own insecurities, then what makes them intelligent? Social ineptitude is not a sign of intelligence. Even scientist like Albert Einstein used to socialize.
@Gentile Uprising or they don't brag because they have nothing to brag about. But you're not really getting my point. The fact that one person doesn't have friends do not make them intelligent. That's my main point. Do not deviate from that. I am not talking about poilitics in general. I enumerated various worthwhile topics that intelligent people are into, not just politics. And it's a stretch to relate that to the dirty world of politicians. Just because one is interested in politics doesn't mean they are corrupt politicians. You're reaching.
vf1rj its not always because of insecurity that people spend most of the time alone. In my instance i dont really like to socialise because i see the pretentiousness within everday encounters with people. Id prefer to have honest time with myself than spend dishonest time with pretentious people.
Applying to me: 8) enjoying being alone 7) I feel pressured (so much!). :( 6) daydreaming 5) only partly: open minded. I change my mind once in a couple of years, but then I stay stubborn. 4) it's more difficult for me to give up self control and to behave naturally, than the other way around 3) indecisiveness form over-analyzing: OMG, it's sometimes so torturing. And perfectionism makes my life hard. 2) dissatisfied and unhappy. Because I think about how it could be, what others have, what I don't have, what I could have, but still don't have etc. 1) I do connect concepts, that are unrelated. And people think, I'm crazy, or they feel disturbed, when I switch between topics, I see related to each other, but other people don't.
8. You enjoy being alone. Me: I actually do. Not always, but being around people make me nervous. 7. You feel pressured. Me: The part of this video about feeling of failure and deep self criticism applies particularly harshly to myself. No matter how bad someone may treat me, believe me, I treat myself far worse. 6. You often daydream. Me: Yes. Only a couple have ever known this about me, but I often pictured my life as a soap opera. 5. You're open-minded. Me: Some folks may disagree, but I believe I am. I actually listen to opposing viewpoints (if given in a meaningful way and with PROOF of why they are right and I'm wrong. Someone simply saying I'm wrong and they are right will not work with me). 4. You're self control is exceptional. Me: Yes and No. It really depends on the situation. 3. Your indecisiveness stems from overanalyzing. Me: Of all of these, this is probably my biggest one. I overanalyze things severely...even when I have no reason to. The video says the problem is the more you overanalyze, the less likely you are to act. That is also me. I tend to shut down due to this, especially if I come to a conclusion that the end point will be pointless and/or worthless...whether it ultimately would be or not. 2. You often feel dissatisfied or unhappy. Me: Being my own worst critic and worst enemy, yep. The video says it is even worse for people without sufficient emotional support. Totally agree. According to the video, statistically, many with higher intelligence have far higher risks of suffering from depression. I am officially diagnosed with major double depression. 1. You connect concepts that seem unrelated. Me: I'm sure I do, but may not recognize that I do as I'm currently drawing a blank.
A long time ago, I read what was said to be an old Chinese axiom; "Blessed is he who can count the number of his friends on one hand". I have several under utilized fingers!
I never understood the need to have friends or to have plans on weekends...as in, having a social life. I like to constantly learn new things on a daily basis and prefer being alone and do my multitask without external distractions. I tend to stay away from crowded environments, noises and people talking too loud makes me dizzy! 😲 Smash that like button if you agree! 😁
If you are really smart enough.. you don't have to prove yourself.. you overcame insecurities.. telling everyone that you are smart shows how insecure you are.. and a boring and waste of time. @Strong Dream Smart people don't say it. Also he probably didn't take an official one like From a university. Consider your test odd if you don’t have these signs which are not so obvious as the video. Need to add an extra such as not follow the crowd, not be a sheep, not have a 9-5 job and have financial freedom which only really intelligent people achieved these. All majority which call themselves intelligent aren’t so intelligent if they don’t have these characteristics
My IQ is high as well and I never exposed it to anyone. I don’t get why people which are “intelligent” may think they are superior? I never considered myself superior of anyone. :)
As a quiet person, the most awkward thing for you to say in public is: "You're quiet, aren't you?" Like bro, come on, you know I'm a quiet person why would you even point it out, especially in public. For a quiet person the least thing they'd probably want is to be the center of attention, and then there's this dude doing just that. Do you think asking a quiet guy why he's quiet is gonna help him any better? No, what's gonna happen is the quiet guy wouldn't even talk back to you. Now look at the situation you just made, its so awkward. If you want to help them, just talk to them normally. Don't just say something like that out of nowhere. Because what you're doing is bringing attention on something that a quiet person doesn't want to be noticed.
Dwîght Happens to me all the time! I feel you, They often say to me, "You're pretty quiet." Or "You're a quiet person. I'm like, "well....that's just who i am." But oh well it's frustrating. What can you do?
It’s happen to me most my life, it’s called social anxiety, I’ve began to think its because smart people over analyze everything so much even themselves and when it comes social interactions they tend to not say much so people won’t judge them, knowledge is power and if you don’t know much about the subject what can you really say about it?

Yes and no sometimes it's better. I have 4 close friends and I just went 7 months between seeing one of them. I think it's been 5 months for the another. I try to see them at least once in every two years. If your friends with the right people you will be able to be your self even if that means your not the all the time person.
I have been without friends for almost eight years. One day I just decided to ghost all of them and have not regretted it since. My reasoning was that I did not really need them to grow as a person. I ended up realizing a few years ago that I was introverted. I, of course, have my own ups and downs but making friends again has never really crossed my mind. I would recommend finding podcasts and youtube channels that explore ideas, history, and philosophy. You might find out that you feel lonely because you do not feel intellectually stimulated.
I try to balance being with people and being by myself. If an artistic idea comes to my mind, I need to exclude myself from the group to attend with my idea so that I don't forget it. Other than that, I like being around people who know what they're talking about and who knows their stuff. I like educated people because that's how I learn. I don't like people who don't like to read, or people who think they know it all. I use my intelligence to help and inspire people. I love learning different things even if I don't get it at first. I don't like the word "genius" because that word is too far of a stretch for me but I just have my own ways of solving problems and taking on difficult challenges. The world is my school and I will never stop learning and growing.
@@michielbeelaerts5355 sometimes it is. Like for example take people who are morbidly obese but think its healthy. They're ignorant and living blissfully, but they've heard the other side saying its not. Being ignorant is a choice.

I feel the same
I find communication and inability to comprehend what I am saying is the biggest challenge...because people will swear they understand...and yet so painfully they do not.
No one wants or is happier alone, but being with 'common' people drains my energy and thus being alone is the better alternative then being with you.

That's incorrect attribution. The adage has numerous origins; ultimately taking its most popular form from Charles Stewart's 1901 autobiography quoting history scholar Henry Thomas Buckle: "Men and women range themselves into three classes or orders of intelligence; you can tell the lowest class by their habit of always talking about persons; the next by the fact that their habit is always to converse about things; the highest by their preference for the discussion of ideas."
After decades of social circulation, it was arbitrarily ascribed to Eleanor Roosevelt by a Kansas newspaper in 1987.
Henry Thomas Buckle is the earliest recorded originator of the whole phrase.
Fitting. An aristocrat isn't any more wise than an academic is bureaucratic.
So true...

Indrid Cold 😂😂🤣🤣
Awesome answer. Very introspective.
Probably a body odor issue.

Alone, yes. Lonely, no. I find comfort in my own thoughts, and sharing a conversation with most people leaves me with nothing gained but they always walk away with something. That's okay, I'm cool with that, I've learned to accept my social environment and be content.
I think it’s also intelligent to recognize when you’re over analyzing, and when to stop, and start the action.
Over analyzing is not really a thing when it comes to truly intelligent people. They have the ability to dive deeper in to things on a level that most can't, thus making it seem like they are over analyzing and over complicating things to others.
That's better said than done. Without properly analyzing anything it seems risky to start the action

GoPhish The Dunning-Kruger effect
GoPhish, You got that stuff right !
Knowing you don't know everything makes you want to learn more of it.
Correct
This is actually not entirely true. People that score higher in openness to experience (the personality trait with the highest correlation to intelligence) tend to rate themselves and their ideas as more intelligent than average. They may doubt themselves at times it acknowledge shortcomings, but they generally tend to think of themselves as intelligent. At any rate, this is one of the problems in psychology. So much of this research is not replicable and many different findings seemingly contradict other findings. I wouldn't completely disregard it, but I'd take some of this research with a grain of salt

That's easy. :-)

Applying to me:
8) enjoying being alone
7) I feel pressured (so much!). :(
6) daydreaming
5) only partly: open minded. I change my mind once in a couple of years, but then I stay stubborn.
4) it's more difficult for me to give up self control and to behave naturally, than the other way around
3) indecisiveness form over-analyzing: OMG, it's sometimes so torturing.
Do not fear being different, be afraid of being the same.

This is pointless... it doesn't really matter if everyone here on RUclips worships you for your intelligence it only matter if.. they follow you a subscribers and you earn money from it.
Are you sure you did an official one from from a university for example(which I did and got 136)
Lies!
@Strong Dream Smart people don't say it. Also he probably didn't take an official one like From a university.
IQ measurements vary with age and level of education and many people I know In an official set up will barely go past 129.
Most folks lie btw 85 - 114 ( average intelligence)
Then a rare minimum go past 115 - 129 (very bright and above average intelligence). Nobody Crosses here in a university IQ test 👆
130 - 144 is moderately gifted
145 - 159 is highly gifted
160 - 179 is exceptionally gifted
180 and above is a genius
I prefer to be alone cuz i'm introvert ...
I like being alone but I do enjoy spending time with my friends!

2:18 Yes, I am in medical school and now I understand it is okay being a lone wolf
Consider yourself blessed as I have well tested IQ of 170 and I subscribed to your channel !
As a quiet person, the most awkward thing for you to say in public is: "You're quiet, aren't you?"
Like bro, come on, you know I'm a quiet person why would you even point it out, especially in public.
Ur making it sound like this happened to u lol, and I have a feeling it did XD
It’s happen to me most my life, it’s called social anxiety, I’ve began to think its because smart people over analyze everything so much even themselves and when it comes social interactions they tend to not say much so people won’t judge them, knowledge is power and if you don’t know much about the subject what can you really say about it?
I would love if someone whispered that to me.
😶😐🙂👍
Intelligence comes in many flavours.......we must not forget that.
So am I supposed to be happy that I have no friends
noonegaming 12 well is that because U r content without or is it because ppl don’t like you? & honestly I’m not trying to be a troll I’m asking so u can answer ur own question if ur honest with urself u will no the answer.. I edited because of dang autocorrect!
In mist cases yes..Friends lue on you, use you, envy you, etc.
Yes and no sometimes it's better. I have 4 close friends and I just went 7 months between seeing one of them. I think it's been 5 months for the another. I try to see them at least once in every two years. If your friends with the right people you will be able to be your self even if that means your not the all the time person.
noonegaming 12 lol😃😄😆

Very accurate. Love this because it helps being aware of the negatives so we can deal with them better.
Honestly ignorance is a blessing from time to time
Shaleir Khalel thats the smartest thing ive read in this comment section
Sure, but often it's impossible to reverse from being knowledgeable to being ignorant. So ignorance may be bliss but it's just not an option
@@michielbeelaerts5355 sometimes it is. Like for example take people who are morbidly obese but think its healthy. They're ignorant and living blissfully, but they've heard the other side saying its not. Being ignorant is a choice.
The Great White thats just delusion
This explains me so much until I predicted two things listed in the video. Great job man. I enjoyed you taking notice. I don't hear many people observe this way.
