@@2906justblaze oh okay. I didn't realize that was why she said it reminded her of North Korea. I thought it reminded her of North Korea because she couldn't speak her mind. Thanks for clarifying
@Jason Duarte , wow! You just admitted that she could do assignments if she didn't want to go to class, in North Korea you don't get a choice, which she also admits. Second, she could always go to another college if she didn't like where she was, and third, she's in her 20's, which means she maybe spent a 3rd of her life in North Korea. She is just trying to sell her book and get paid for speaking arrangements. She'll probably be at the next CPAC conversation with Diamond and Silk as part the of minority line up to push lies and propaganda for the rich to have you clowns focus on culture wars. They probably will also a have Mr Potato speak too.
@Jason Duarte And OP is saying that North Korea doesn't let you opt out, lmao. You do what you're told to the letter, and you and your family get punished if you don't. The fact that her classes allowed students to skip assignments if the material upset them is completely irrelevant to the question of how a college campus is like North Korea, because it's literally the opposite of how North Korea works. There's no way Yeonmi doesn't know this intimately. You think the Kim regime cares about how North Koreans feel?
It's my (summary) understanding of what's she saying is that being woke in the US is like the normal state of being brainwashed in North Korea. And, if that's the correct interpretation the state of being "woke" is not something to which to aspire. If you have a different interpretation I'd be interested in reading it.
Woke ideology is based in Marxist ideology and is meant to divide and make people feel guilty so they can be controlled. If you were a certain type of person in North Korea, you were made a low class, for what your ancestors did. Now being white, cisgender male gives you that same low class status. If your ancestors have slaves and you are white, you need to bow down the the woke mob and hand over all your money as reparations, even though you don’t Choose your race or ancestry. Woke mob is preying on the collective race guilt of the US (by the way, Brazil imported way more black slaves than the US, how come no one talks about that?) just like North Korea preyed on the ancestral guilt of some classes of North Koreans. In Ivy League schools, we are not allowed to speak out and say this country is not systemically racist…. (By the way, have you ever noticed that introverts can say the same thing - the whole country and way of life is built for extroverts and oppressed introverts… do you know how ridiculous it all sounds?). The point is - you have to believe in woke ideology, which is implemented on us using Marxist techniques and is Marxist in nature. So Ivy League schools are actually leading the ideology of Marxism in this country and if not stopped, communism will take over… and the graduates 🎓 of these schools will be the useful idiots that make it happen.

I've been paying attention to this girl for a while. So worried for her when I heard her description of her university. But seeing this gives me hope.
I don't doubt how crappy it is at Columbia. it probably was really weird all those inclusive measures. however .. America is not one thing. By her language she sees America as just one thing. one collective white place, in her head, with all the same values and beliefs. But what about the oppression of the groups America has oppressed? what about the topics we are struggling with. if she only ever compares her experience now to her time before, in some ideal, than she's not really become an American,. She should face issues head on. She chose to stay silent to graduate, so she still contributed to the problem. and Columbia is a well known racist school anyway. Its actually pretty funny that she attends the most antisemitic and racist place looking for intellectual freedom. She should have attended the new school
Thank you. Bless you.
Thank you for having her! She's amazing!
i love and admire you woman .... thankyou for standing up for our lives and our freedoms ... we love them and we cant lose them ... thank you for helping us
When I went to Cornell, everyone was hippie or revolutionary, save for a few nutters at the Cornell Review. I was happy to think myself a justice warrior, of sorts, but my love of Christ and America, and being a slave to the truth, brought me back from going full Marxista. . . . We were pretty 'revolutionary' in the '80s, at Cornell, where, following the many cries for justice in the streets of NYC, we sparked the first anti-apartheid sit-ins, as far as I remember. We marked in many ways the end of the cultural dimension of the Civil Rights Movement. . . . But now decades later, I see how pernicious this ideology was. How hateful and destruction it is. And how ashamed that Cornell's so-called radicalism has been overtaken by the same at Brown, Yale and Columbia, and nigh every school in the US especially among the elite. . . . And this ideology isn't simply chosen but forced upon us, as we can see in the coming wave of propaganda of our children, under cover of our new Newspeak, 'critical (race) theory'. Just listen to Thomas Sowell's story at Columbia, and same for Thomas Merton, at the same. Ben Shapiro talks about failing his courses at UCLA, should he not tote the hard left line. At Harvard, I remember Spike Lee punished anyone who didn't think exactly like him, along the lines of 'Do the Right Thing'. When he near failed half the class, including some independent-minded brothers and sisters, he had to escape the Yard with his life, a mob ranting 'you suffer from short man disease'. . . . Now figure the irony, and danger, as we contemplate the lessons of China's Cultural Revolution. And loss of what was truly radical -- a classically liberal education -- unique in the world, as it is, as it always had been -- based on a true, critical evaluation of the Western canon, from the Ancient Greeks to Desert Fathers, from Renaissance and Enlightenment, to Industrial and Scientific Age -- that made for the best hopes for a true Republic on this un-Godly world.
I just left a graduate nurse practitioner program at the state university because I refuse to learn critical race theory and to agree to woke BS agenda that they teach . Every time I read another woke university's email I want to vomit . This universities instead of teaching future nurse practitioners more science and medicine would rather teach a woke bs classes. How the heck nurse practitioners are going to provide primary care in place of the physician when the family nurse practitioner programs spend very little time on very important science and medicine classes .
God bless her !!!
such a beautiful smart lady
How does a North Korean citizen escape North Korea? Dumb question i know
@@wiexenspei Really? There's no legal way?
Through the desert... read her book
Yes, read her book. It's amazing and will leave you speechless.
I might not be from a country like DPRK , but hearing what's happening to the US I can't stop drawing parallels with my native Poland .Here it's the same but the catholic conservative right that is in charge of the sitting administration plays the role of the DNC and SJWs while the opposition is the RNC . The other similarity is chaos playing in favor of the government :/
Deserting north Korea to live in America is as wonderful as perilous endeavor/ dream to realize, smart N.korean girl 😎
More immigrants like her!!!!
She has a RUclips page where she talks more about North Korea
Columbia, Obamas Old stomping ground
just bought the book!
Insane!
And the best part is the "woke culture" can't even dispute what she has to say because she lived in hell before escaping. She knows exactly what she's saying.
45 commies thumb this down
You should run for congress. You are a very needed voice.
I own her book and you can purchase it directly from her using PayPal and she’ll sign and address it to you. It’s a great read, her story is amazing, shocking, horrifyingly and insightful . I highly suggest picking up a copy
shame on those hypercritical "professors" and "students", send them to North Korea...
I mean, c’mon man…
How is this not telling of the culture of the left..??
Over sensitive college students is exactly the same as being in a north Korean labor camp. C'mon man.
@@rjv-rw2ef a collective of over-sensitive group-think college students (amongst others) can lead to ideologies that create conditions that give someone who’s actually lived in the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea cause for concern.
No, one over-sensitive college student is, of course, not the same thing as a DPRK labour camp - but it is telling/alarming that this sort of thinking is in-line with the powers-to-be in the DPRK.
@@Based_Is_Best yeah college students yelling about gender and racial equality is exactly how the state of north Korea was formed. Brain worms. Btw north Korea totally communist. People eating grass, #1 communist ideology.
@@rjv-rw2ef one-party rule and not being allowed to have (or at least voice) a thought that is different than The Party’s is how DPRK came into the state is is now.
America will never be as bad as North Korea (thank God), but the “woke” (like those who are “MKUltra’d” in ivy-leagues schools) are espousing ideologies that resonate with the N Korea’s communist party; destructive ideologies that America fought for decades to prevail over in order to enjoy the fruits of that effort instead of living in the hollow shell of a socialist/communist country - and doing it under the misguided (or deliberately misleading) nomenclature of “sjw campaigns”.
All Yeomin was doing was calling them out on it. All I’m saying is she makes a good point.
Change the world for the better - be based.
@@Based_Is_Best white fragility. What do you mean you have no voice you had trump for 4 years. You got it man. North Korea is the way they are because they let their college students be as liberal as they want. The more "woke" you are the more communist you become and the less woke you are the more capitalist you become. You figured it out with your baby logic, why even read books or understand things when you can sit and watch faux lie to you. Aren't you embarrassed that people know you have no idea what you're talking about? Maybe you shouldn't have a voice if you're going to be this ignorant in public.
Wait, so she was getting upset with her glasses, so they told her she didn't have to go to glass? In North Korea, I'm pretty sure you don't have the option to not do anything.
Ok, so what's your point
@@alicepyne-jahneke8042 , my point is that she said it reminded her of North Korea, because the professor told her she didn't have to go to class, but then she said that you don't have a choice in North Korea. She contradicts herself.
I would say our government needs to do something but they are just as bad
Thank You For Sharing.
Pretty Young Lady. 😁
Wow, woke education reminds her of North Korea, so North Korea is woke? I mean, I think North Korea is anything but woke.
