Silver City was the end of the road back in the early 1920s! Went by boat from there. There was a gold stick that really didn't pan out! The pens were left over from a fox farm operation! It's all privately owned and was going to be restored 50 yrs. ago but that never happened!
I just want to thank you for not using foul language in your videos! It so nice that I can watch your videos with my kids! We love going on your beautiful adventures with you!
The truck is an International Harvester. They made heavy duty trucks under that name until the 70’s until they dropped the Harvester part. They make heavy duty trucks under the “International” name to this day. One of the coolest vehicles they made was the “Scout”. The chicken wire building very likely for egg laying chickens.
My first time there was in 1966 at the age of 10. We were there with an Airstream caravan for a couple of days. Near the shore of Kluane lake was what I assume was an icehouse since there was saw dust piled in it. While there I swam in those frigid waters (something only a kid would do). Went back with wife and kids in 05, great memories. Thanks for sharing with us
WOW Dustin!!!! Your cinematography was superb. This was another fantastic adventure! We are sitting here at home in Florida and you are bringing back memories for my husband who grew up in Alaska. The Alaska series has been a fantastic one, as all of your journeys are. Thank you so much for sharing you travels!!! If you ever make it to Florida, we would love to meet you!☺️
I remember this place as a kid, was amazing back then, amazing now to see how much its deteriorated. All the chicken wire and pens you seen were for the fox's as what you were exploring was a Fox Farm back in the 40's and 50's. I also remember something about a murder on the property, apparently the wife shot the husband in self defense, there's apparently a memorial up on the ridge some where i never did see. If you ever stop by Fort St John (Mile 54 on the Alaska Highway) Coffee is always on and the beers are always cold :) Love the videos man. Wish i could do what you are doing. Safe travels buddy!
Me and my wife did this journey in 2012 spent 4 weeks cruising Alaska all the way from Vancouver Island to Dawson city and to Homer Ak it was an adventure of a lifetime!
Hey Dustin, I happen to know a little about that truck. It appears to be an early 60s International Harvester, I'm guessing it's from the loadstar series. Looks to have a 392ci V8, possibly a 345. It has a wrecker on the back, but they turned these things into everything, from ambulances to fire trucks, dump beds to school buses. I happen to own a 1969 loadstar with a dump bed, and can haul 5 yards of gravel, even though it's only registered as a pickup. They are very tough, reliable trucks. I've got a video of my 1969 International Travelette on my channel, but have been meaning to post one featuring my loadstar in action. Just thought I would share what I know. Another great video. I have lived in Alaska my whole life, grown up driving these same roads, but have never seen it portrayed so beautifully. You really have a knack for bringing out the best in a place. Hope you have a pleasant trip home, and come back soon!
That town was friggin awesome!!!!! Just before the pickup truck what you called a fire extinguisher was just the opposite it is a giant propane burner we use the same thing for burning weeds. Beautiful scenery your vids are like watching a movie the shot's and editing are just top notch. Keep up the great work and thanks for taking me along for the ride. Peace Keep the faith Dean
Another great one brother. You're good at what you do. Maybe sometime when you're stuck in the moho for a few days due to weather or whatever you can research Silver City (and the Bear Flats Lodge too please) and do a re-release of this video with a history lesson included. Places and things are great to look at, but it's the history lessons that give your videos their third dimension. I spread the word about Destination Adventure, because it's good and I think people would enjoy it.
Those fall colors are beautiful. Its incredible, and your cinematography is top notch as always. Always looking forward to your videos every week, bud.
I just discovered your channel a few days ago and have been binge watching all of your videos. You're absolutely killing it. Your style, your editing, everything is perfect. Keep up the good work and can't wait to watch your new videos!
About a 1963 0r 64 International Harvester. They made Farm equipment, wagons, plows, harrows and mowing machines prior to building trucks. They had a vehicle in the 60s' and 70s' called the "Scout" (About the size of the original Ford Bronco). It had the only 4 cylinder engine ever built incapable of getting 8 mpg. They also built over the road tractors and most famously their farm tractors... I can't get over the quality of your videos, you are the master of RUclips.
Just love your travels in Alaska and Yukon. Beautiful time of year, colours are spectacular. Used to live on Hiway 16 west of PG. Now in a small valley in the Shuswap. Bring on Fall. We are so blessed to live in BC and get to see all these amazing places without a lot of people all around us. Nature should be embraced one on one. Thanks for the journey.
Dustin, Love your shows. I wish I was 50 years younger. You never mention it but there must be a lot of ghosts in all those abandoned buildings. Keep up the good work. You have a lot of fans out here.
From your drone footage of the incredible countryside to the music you use, you have done it again Dustin, this was one epic adventure. Love the "hot tub" in the middle of nowhere. This remind me of my childhood in Hawaii, on the island I am from, we use to go to a cabin on the mountain and use something similar called a furo, essentially a bath. It was always great use after a long horse ride to the cabin. I love your style of narration and that you go to off the beaten path places. When I travel with my family, we do the same. I share your channel out to all my friends and family. Looking forward to your next adventure. Be well and enjoy the journey.
good morning I have been following this channel from Italy for a few months and I have to congratulate you for the beautiful landscapes that you show us and for the excellent video quality that I rarely see in other similar channels
Both you and Forresty Forest are in The Yukon right now. It would be really cool to see you guys in one video. The tow truck is an International Harvester. Probably a Loadstar. I’d guess it’s from the late 60s or early 70s.
"60% of the time....it works EVERYTIME!" This is what is great about your videos, all your tips, tricks and innovation. So awesome. Great job! I am curious, how do you get the panning high altitude drone shots of you driving the motor home? They are amazing especially considering you are alone LOL
I was thinking the same thing. Must pull over put in the coordinates or gps let's it fly straight ahead above any obstacles. Then pulls over & flies it back down to him. I am guessing of course.
@@liquidgal9867 same here. what kind of drone bro? such epic shots! My holystone720 has follow me mode, but that is a long way off. there is also a feature where you can draw a line on the google map and it'll hit those points (coordinates). amazing that even a 250 dollar drone will do that now.
Thank you so much for taking us on another trip with you. I absolutely love your videography skills and your drone shots are amazing. Keep in touch on your way south. Safe travels. Blessings from Proctor Minnesota!
The B.C government should be using your videos to promote our province, it shows how beautiful it is along with Alaska. Thanks again for sharing with us.
Thanks for the post, it brings back so many memories. I used to go to Whittier often to go boating with my friends, and I still know people who live there. The fishing was phenomenal and the scenery is just as you show - world class.
Loving the fall episodes! My favorite time of year. Absolutely beautiful. On a side note, I do worry that you'll accidentally stumble across a body or scary people squatting. The little girl silhouettes (wall paper?) were scary!! So creepy. I'd have been out of there soooo fast! 🏃🏻♀🏃🏻♀🏃🏻♀🏃🏻♀🏃🏻♀💨💨 Stay safe out there Dustin. We love you.
I came across your channel a couple of months ago and love it. Your “Adventures” are great and your personality is even better. Im glad I stumbled upon it and will enjoy following along for as long as your willing to share. Also I really appreciate the end of your video closing- Take nothing but photos and leave nothing but foot prints. As an old time Boy Scouts that is probably why you hooked me in. THANK YOU SO MUCH!!! Stay safe and my god keep you healthy and moving forward.
Very cool vid. Loved the explore of Silver City. I believe the chicken wire may have been to help stabilise the mud walls and roof? Over the years, the weather has stripped all the mud away. Loved the Hot Tub. Who wouldn’t do their best in that location, the show some friends a good time. “Hot Tub Adventures” ftw! Such amazing editing, brilliant music, stunning scenery and a very likeable host. Brilliant! Rob, Tasmania, Australia 🇦🇺
Wow Great Video, I just discovered your channel and subscribed and look forward to more. I would like to add some information to add to your history. About old nails and buildings from the past, round nails have been around since 1850 they were called wire nails originally and were mass produced ,this can help in dating a building but if you find a building with square nails , those nails were made one at a time in a blacksmith shop. I am a retired full time blacksmith so I know how much work would go into just one nail. Also the tin roof you saw were most likely made from old tin containers usually square but round ones also ,then flattened out and laid out flat, talk about early recycling. My wife and I drove through the Yukon in a Jeep and this video brought back many memories , I just wished we could have gone down every dirt road we came across when we saw old log buildings in the trees. Also I enjoyed that you went inside as many of the buildings as you could, this is where you can really glimpse into about the time they were abandoned . Many youtubers miss that, and is frustrating to watch. Keep up the awesome work.
One of the first videos I saw was you finding a structure that you knew immediately was a sauna, which was amazing.... and now a hot tub. I wouldn't of got those 2 in 10 guesses! I think that chicken wire was for farm animals. LOVED this video!

just catching up with Dustin's vids..finally moved to Van Island! Loved reading all the awesome comments here and...As per usual...stellar video dude! Spectacular!
How this channel doesn't have like 2 million subscribers is beyond me, epic content, you are living the best life 😎

I almost let a little one slip this time, but I try hard to keep it family friendly :). The occasional adult joke, but I can’t help myself.
@@Destination_Adventure that was some amazing shi.... stuff the way you ran that hose to the tub! Lmao
@@paulbean_me that did make me laugh out loud when he said it lol
Amen to that !!!
Yes....THANK YOU !!!
Canada is a country built on the dreams and hard work of adventurers like yourself. Thank you for continuing the Canadian tradition!
Silver City has lots of history. It was an old Fox farm back in the day as well. Beautiful country.
That would explain the small pens. 😊 thanks.
That explains a lot!! 😅 TY

Ford use to buy their diesel engines. But now they make their own. My grandfather use to run International school busses.
You can just google the place and there was a fox farm there.
To be specific, the truck is a 1959 International BC-160 Series, with an unknown wrecker (tow truck) option added on.
Seems to have flooded bringing alot of sentiment into that area.
And i believe VW now owns the Scout name. I would have loved a scout 2

Why do they abandoned it?
Remains of Bear Flats Lodge at Koidern, which operated from 1973 until it closed in 1992

Your drone shots are National Geographic worthy! Superb cinematography! I still get a kick out of your great sense of humor! Keep on whipping it!

That type of fire extinguisher was used at airports, yours was repurposed for a weed burner.
