Love these videos. About eighteen years ago I fell while ice-skating. The knee hit the ice while knee was bent at about a 90 degree angle. Patella suffered a comminuted fracture plus a long vertical fracture.
Surgeon decided not to do a knee replacement due to the fact they were so new. We waited seven months with leg in a long immobilizer and crutches. I am happy that the outcome with zero surgery, my knee pretty much put itself back together. My surgeon told me, nature did a better job, than he could have done. Of course, I do have chondromalcia, patella tracking problems now and then, a ton of P.T. so far, still living with some pain, but its intermittent.
My advice is to LISTEN AND FOLLOW your doctor's advice, when you begin PT, it can feel like torture at times, but the outcomes can be extremely fulfilling. If you can't tolerate the pain, ask your doctor if you can take a Tylenol before your PT session.
I am kind of lucky. I have a very high pain tolerance. To the point one doctor told me I need to come in sooner when things happen.
Also, always warm up and cool down at PT and when you do your home program.
Know that your Attitude is very important on your recovery. If you stay positive, your outcome will be much better. A negative will cause you a longer amount of sessions.

I think I started with this. Back in high school, my knees already sounded like rice krispies. But I didn't have pain till I was 30 and it progressed fast. I also had some malalignment and a shallow trochlear groove, so my knee caps were out of place laterally when bent. PT, injections, meds, arthroscopic surgery. By 35, I was in so much pain it kept me up at night. I had weakness. Had to change jobs. Couldn't walk the dog or mow the yard.
Finally found a doctor who agreed to a partial replacement, patella femural, at 36/37. He also addressed the malalignment with an osteotomy. Today is 9 and 6 months out from surgeries. I live my new knees! I can do stuff again. I'm going on hikes. The only lingering issue, that could still improve, is getting up and down from the ground is quite difficult and comical.

I had surgery on my right knee about 50 years ago to align the kneecap. I had little or no pain for many years, even though I was a runner. About 9 months ago it started to be painful again so I went to an orthopedic doctor and he prescribed PT. I did a course of PT and do some exercises at home and mostly it is not painful. The exercises are leg lifts, both straight and with foot turned out a little to strengthen the thigh muscle. My husband and I do some hiking, usually about 2 to 3 miles on hilly terrain (some on the Appalachian Trail). A couple of Tylenol usually helps if it's really painful. Thanks for another great video!

Both of my knees suffer from activity-induced patellar femural pain disorder. It happens a couple of times a year in both knees. I've found the best way to manage the flare-up is to get off of my feet for two to three days, apply cold, and use a surface applied pain medication (I use THC and CBD salve). After it has calmed down, I will slowly begin my knee strengthening exercises. This regime works very well for me.

This video sounds like it was made just for me. I started dislocating my patellas as soon as I got hips at 12 yo. In my 20s I had a lateral retinacular release on one knee that has stopped the dislocations, but I hear that that procedure is no longer used. Now I have severe arthritis in the other knee but I'm in my early 50s so trying to delay arthroplasty. I'm hoping that when I finally have arthroplasty it will also correct my malalignment.

I have been receiving knee injections and draining the fluid behind the knee for the past two years. My Dr. also had me begin P/T twice a week to build the muscles up. At 82, my heart doesn't allow me to have total knee replacement. The P/T seems to be helping.

Mine's just the opposite. I sometimes have pain in the back of my knees (where it bends) and sometimes it might give out a bit when I walk upstairs. Doing the stair stepper exercise is ok for a few minutes, but then I have to stop. I do a stationary bike (tension not quite as high as it used to be) for 45 minutes every other day........no issues there.

Went to see the doctor after my MRI and he is suggesting that if the cortisone shot does not work, to have a osteochondral allograft or Microfracture surgery done. MRI showed - Full thickness cartilage loss of the central trochlea without associated subchondral edema, a cyst distal to the ACL and a bakers cyst. The doctor said the knee looked pretty good otherwise. Everything that I found suggest that people 60 and older, are to old for this type of surgery and should be looking a TKR. I'm so confused as to what to think. I had a TKR revision done back in 2020, and it is doing great. Over the past 5 years I have had 6 cortisone shots and one injection (10/2023) with less and less good results in this knee. Looking for your thoughts on this one, as you helped me out back in 2020 with my revision. Thanks

Is there a fix for osteonecrosis? I had trauma to my knee 20+ years ago. It’s been throbbing ever since. MRI’s show a small spot where the bone died. I’ve been told I pretty much need to live with it. Over the years I’ve had steroid and hyaluronic acid injections, the last Dr. gave me exercises for patella chondromalacia problems, my current Dr. prescribed me diclofenac…..nothing has helped one bit. At night is when it’s the worst, throbbing.

My knee pain is almost unbearable. I take Norco 4x a day for back problems & it barely takes the edge off for my knees. I've lost count of how many injections. I've had rooster combs at least twice. The last time was the platelet enriched. No relief. I've tried the neoprene sleeves, no help. What's odd is that it's the worst when I lay down. I'm a 64 yr old female. I'm 5'5" & around 165 lbs. I do have osteoporosis. I tried Voltran, not much help. Now I'm trying emu oil. I worked in a home improvement store for 10 yrs when I was younger. A lot of hours walking & kneeling on concrete floors without supportive shoes. (Young & dumb) Any suggestions on anything else that I can try? I forgot to mention that my pain is also on both sides of the knees as well as the kneecaps & down the front of my legs. I'm a mess 😢

Great info hilariously delivered. Is being Catholic and taught to always pray on your knees bad for your knees?

    • @BionicMilkaholic
      @BionicMilkaholic 6 месяцев назад +1

I don't think kneeling to pray is bad for your knees, or else there would probably be a noted increase in knee problems in areas that are highly Catholic or Muslim. I could even see it as potentially helpful as you probably have better range of motion and use the muscles for getting up and down more. But if you have bad knees, it can affect your ability to kneel.
As a Baptist who has had partial replacements, I do make the joke that I'm glad I'm not Catholic.

These doctors didn't talk about the possible root causes. My suggestion would be to get a DEXA scan to check for Osteopenia/Osteoporosis. Weak knees, bones, and cartilage could be due to a Vitamin K2 MK4/MK7 deficiency. Try taking the supplement Ortho-K or AlgeCal to see if the pain resolves before considering medical intervention. Collagen, essential amino acids, and Boron also help. Using a vibration plate like Lifepro Plus Rumblex is another treatment option.

Only knee thing for me, and it's weird, when walking the leg goes too far forward and locks up. No pain, it' like stumbling. Several times a day. I'm 70 and for the last year my biggest pain or annoyance is sharp pain between the joints on several fingers, not the joints. Odd, yes. I worked as a mechanic all my life and still do lots of work with my hands. When I get up in the morning my hands hurt so bad I can't pick up anything heavy for an hour. So during breakfast I set there wiggling my fingers till the pain subsides. I know, odd. No swelling, aspirin sometimes helps.

Pain when walking, excercising. Stiffness and lack or range of motion. I have had ACL MCL reconstruction and two scopes. Severe osteo arthritis and torn meniscus currently. Just had my first HA injection two weeks ago. The more I use the it the more it hurts, swells, stiffens. Sitting at my desk and laying in bed cause stiffnes and inability to walk like a healthy 57 year old. I can't not walk, excercise etc, to stop the pain. The "if it hurts don't do it" is infuriating as its not realistic. It has been over a decade since my first injury and recond=struction surgery. The pain, stiffness (which is the more irritating than the pain) and lack of range of motion worsen every year. I also have an off loader brace, still have pain when walking. I can't run anymore. As well as physical therapy as often is affordable within each year. You said it docs, its a very frustrating situation. I feel like my docs think I am a malingerer as I proably go into the office for consult /assessment every 12-18 months. Same answers, no resolve and issue worsens. I don't want a miracle. I just want to walk without a limp and enjoy even the small every day things like getting out of bed without looking and felling like I'm 80. I know 80 year old that walk better than I. Thanks for reading. Julie in Colorado
