Ben The Coin Geek
Old Pueblo Coin
Nice upgrade on the Bay Bridge. Thanks for showing us the coins. Nice to see that ANACS is often the same grade as the big boys.
Thanks Ben! BTW, those were mine. I bought the ANACS without thinking how they would look in my Lighthouse album holders. I am trying for a complete silver commemorative set and the ANACS holders looked out of place. I am not a fan of the yellow labels. So I then decided I wanted all NGC, PCGS or CACG slabbed coins. I was surprised about not receiving FBL on the 1955 "Franklin, but I will just blame Ben and move on.
This is by far, one of the best results i have seen for a crossing video. The owner clearly knew what he or she was doing.
I have 1 graded coin. I bought it from eBay because I like the coin and the holder. It is from ANACS. The way the top folds over to easily look at what coin you are looking at is pretty cool. Great video Ben.
That dime look like it had full bands.
That 1941 Mercury Dime is a Proof. There is no "Full Bands" designation for Mercury Dime proofs, only for the Mint State (MS) Mercury dimes.
I agree with Ben, the customer and ANACS, that 1955 Franklin is FBL. Excellent job picking cherries for crossover.
A good example of why Anacs can be good on cheaper coins but like you said be weary on higher end coins. They are more likely to miss a roller mark or filed rims or altered surface. A good example of that would be that 1934s peace you had that both services called cleaned then Anacs called ms63
Customer stoked.
I like the green ICG labels: they were conservative back then. Especially on circulated coins.
Thank you for this video.. I had sent in a 1951 pr 67 half dollar in a ICG holder to PCGS and got back a 66…Very disappointed so I sent it back to PCGS to regrade the coin and got back a 67.. PCGS now saying congratulations the coin is in the 1%.. a $2250. Book value.. I was afraid to do it at first but now I have more confidence and you’ve given me more with this video…Thank you.
Amigo geek just watching your video. Always very interesting
Thanks Ben - good on your customer. Must have a nice eye to get all those straight crosses plus an upgrade.....
When covering up grades on the thumbnail, don't forget the 63 grade appearing next to the registry number 😊
We need to do a PCGS to Anacs crackout Ben! Would pay to see that happen hahaha
ANACS should offer to ‘sticker’ NGC, PCGS, and CAC
A 👍 with the ANACS logo
$10, please!
@@DevoShire lol has to be mustard yellow to match slabs
damn thats a good idea
Knowing how they used to be on FBL, that is no surprise as hits on the lines can take it out of FBL, or on Jefferson nickels FS. I had a 1953 S out of a mint set that was a solid 64 but had a hit on the bottom 2 lines. I got it graded took good pictures and it sold for way multiples bid as a FS coin was moon money. The man who bought it was thrilled
Love the coins you showcase!
Glad you like them!
If you know how to grade coins, I think buying certain coins in ICG or ANACS holders can yield good upgrades. Except for the non-FBL Bugs, your customer did well.
I'm sold on ANACS . They are excellent with the grading .
Great info & advice, as always. Thank you for what you do.
I think you did well.
Love your videos keep them coming
Very nice!
Great video as always ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Thanks again!
Higher buddy - as Jim Click would say
When you send in the PCG they ask if you want to re-grade or do you want to cross over and you have the decision to see if it will go up or not
Hey Ben
Definitely feel the Ben should have been FBL. Good video.
I've sent 2 1970-S full step nickels to PCGS, and they refuse to give me FS, So Today March 4th I sent my first submission to NGC in it contains not only a 1970-S full step nickels but also several low pop 70s FS nickels and FB dimes let's see if it's me or not... it's probably me.
ANACS is a great grading company they get mostly everything correct
They have to look at the top of the bell, along with the bottom of the bell there’s lines through the whole bell
If u want graded coins buy graded coins and have them regraded
Hi Ben. Philly looks scruffy because they make it all the way to the Super Bowl and then CHOKE.
*>>>------- CLICK ON THE OWL ------->* 🦉
Lol 😆
Hey Ben if you were to recommend a buff for an old or smutchy holder, anything stands above else? Or, haven’t u ever bothered? I get it that holders now might be worth more than the coins, not as insane as our gov
Comment down below.
Quite the streak, thanks
Do you think the current grade on the holder has any influence on the grader or do they not see the grade before making their decision.
Yes I would like to see Ben answer this in his next mailbag!
It 100% had influence. This strategy made zero sense and yielded zero value
maybe a silly question, but who performs the slab crackout? the owner of the coins or the grading service (in this video's case, PCGS)? tia!
PCGS will do it for you. Just have to submit under the "crossover/crack out service. I strongly reccomend it. Cracking out coins is one of the sketchiest things you can do. I almost never buy slabbed coins, unless I really like them because getting them out of the coffins is so stressful. The plastic can break in odd ways where you get in a log jam. You can't break any more parts of it, and the parts you did break didn't break in a way that allows you to peel it apart. It's a nightmare.
@@TheWinstonDoublehave you ever heated the slab to make the plastic more elastic? Water bath, steaming type of thing.
@@mrparrehesian1742 Oh God NO! I tried using a wheel to cut it and it has such a low melting point that it just liquefies with enough friction and it becomes like cold tar. It seals you out from getting a shim in to pry it open, it's horrible. The bigger the coin the worse it is.
@@mrparrehesian1742 I would suggest FREEZING the plastic. Get it as hard and brittle as possible so it wants to split rather than bend. Don't leave them in a hot car. They will melt!
Used a Dremel with a cutting disk on the face of the slab cut in a circle. Prying it off was easy and no vapors while cutting.
130th 👍
100% of my slabbed coins are the ANACS soapbox holders. Has anyone tried to cross a soapbox to PCGS or NGC? lol
I prefer to keep them when possible
Hey
If that bay bridge coin was minted today theyd have piles of garbage for Oakland
I think they will match the grade of the other company, just to not step on there toes. I think you should break the coins out.
Exactly, this strategy was oxymoronic
