    - DEJA VU is to time travel movies, as UNBREAKABLE is to superhero movies. Just a very subtle, very grounded movie that happens to be a sci-fi or fantasy movie.
    - Destroys me when he realizes he doomed his partner. - Very well written... well put together... where all the time travel elements made sense.
    - Pretty sure this is Caviezel's SECOND cop movie with a time travel angle. I'd strongly recommend FREQUENCY. - Love that Val Kilmer's character just turned the other way 😄
    - This reminds me of the old sci-fi show SEVEN DAYS, and itself could easily be made into a show where they continue to save people based on the four-days ago wormhole.

      Don't forget TENET (which coincidentally stars Denzel's son (John David Washington) in the lead with Christopher Nolan as director). This film and TENET share a lot of thematic similarities (time meddling in some way, stop the antagonist from committing mass murder, and save a woman in a dire situation). TENET is actually my favorite Nolan now, especially considering how remarkably well it handles the exposition and action sequences.

    What if you had to tell someone the most important thing in the world, but you knew they never believe you?

    • @sophiamarchildon3998
      @sophiamarchildon3998 4 месяца назад

      Important context: you may "think" you know they'd never believe you; not that they'll not, or that such thing is impossible. And "believe you" is so wide open to interpretation too: I believe you are telling the truth, not that I will trust you, not that I also believe it to be reality/fact. If "to be believed" is the goal ...
      I'd change the setup so they could believe me, or better yet, prove it on top of that. If it's impossible for me to be believed, I'd not bother with it and walk away from that goal. Outside of that, I'd either be planting the proper seeds for an upcoming moment where I would be believed, or try to leverage every bits and pieces I have to come the closest to be believed (high trust and high cooperation, without attaining total commitment of "being believed in".

    Denzel is so great way to help the audience connect with impossible situations. He's similarly great with that in Virtuosity and Fallen. Loved that you liked this so much. It doesn't get enough recognition and Tony Scott was such an inventive director. It's not everyone's cup of tea, but his creative use of shaky dynamic camera work in Man of Fire is incredible.

  • @CineRam
    @CineRam 4 месяца назад +2

    Aside from "True Romance", this is my favorite Tony Scott-directed movie. Of course, since it's a time travel movie I was predisposed to like it. Ever since "Back to the Future" I have been very passionate about time travel stories, and I have been adamant that any time travel writing establish rules and then stick to them. Many time travel movies don't do that, and when that happens I cannot recommend them. This movie MOSTLY adheres to the rules it sets, with one big exception: Denzel approaches the building that already has the ambulance crashed into it, which is an event he causes when he travels back. But if the building and ambulance have already been destroyed because of Denzel's timey-wimey shenanigans, shouldn't the ferry still be intact and all the people aboard still alive? Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm? Despite that flaw in the writing, everything else is solid. I got very emotional when I first saw this...the music kicks in just the right way when Original Denzel shows up at the end, just like in the first scene.
    Val Kilmer was in two other Tony Scott movies besides this one: "Top Gun" and "True Romance". Denzel's first was "Crimson Tide" and went on to make four more with Scott, including "Unstoppable" which was Tony's last.
    Glad that you both liked this one so much!

    Spoiler alert to anyone who has never seen this movie. When the cell phone rings at the beginning and he goes to answer and notices it’s from a body bag, that was him who had already passed trying before.

    I really wanted to see a reaction to "A Soldier's Story" back in February.
    It's a very good movie with an all star cast of Black actors.
