"What the hell is this movie?"-- Everyone who watched and enjoyed this movie.
I remember seeing it in theater's, everyone was laughing but saying wth is this? Lol
Yup - it kinda torpedoed Willis' career for a while - which is a shame, because the next movie he stared in after this wasn't too bad - but absolutely nobody went to see it. (The Last Boy Scout, if anyone cares)..
@@DaveF. _The Last Boy Scout_ otherwise known as one of my absolute favourite Tony Scott films - like top 2 or 3 for sure.
@@DaveF.hilarious considering its one of the best of the action buddy cop movies from the 90s
Such an underrated delight, this movie
I'm going to tell my grandchildren this movie is The DaVinci Code.
The only thing better than watching Emily hate-watch this movie is the thought that she's gonna have to watch it again in editing.
As soon as I saw the Title: HUDSON HAWK I gasped! Did not expect ANYONE to find & review this marvelous comedy crime heist with so many crazy characters! I bought the DVD as soon as it was available when it FIRST CAME OUT way back then! I sure wish I could get ANY of the OUT-TAKES & BLOOPERS to this film! I'm sure The Film Crew LAUGHED their butts off at all the Jokes they couldn't use in the movie!
Same as you...I LOVE this movie! I grew up on young Bruce Willis, pre action star....the Moonlighting days!
I can't believe this movie isn't more popular. It's hilarious and surreal and... just freaking great
Agreed , shame Emily didn't "get" the same appreciation that we got for this unique movie 🙂
Facts. This movie is so slept on
Same
I love this movie, and I am not ashamed!
same!saw it with a late friend of mine, we loved the over the top camp writing!
The amount of crap I've caught for liking this movie since I first saw it in the theater with some friends is immeasurable. I still stand by my original impression - love this movie as well!
Emily becoming more and more dismayed and confused GIVES ME LIFE!
Hudson Hawk isn't a movie it is a cartoon, and ahead of its time. Never understood why Hudson Hawk gets so much hate, but Austin Powers gets a sequel.
this.
this x2
I think because Bruce was seen as a tough guy action hero
see, goes back to whether you saw moonlighting or not as to whether he's a comedian trying to be serious, or serious trying to be funny.
Before we are introduced to Bruce, you know what kind of movie it is going to be; between the voice over and the Mona lisa.....
I'm quite fond of this pet project of Mr. Willis and his associates, and I think the world is a better place for it. Part action caper movie, part secret agent movie, part screwball comedy, part cartoon - with a fair infusion of Monty Python sensibility and a cool score by Michael Kamen to boot. (Oh, and the first robbery sequence is structured particularly well.) Truly an _opus sui generis._ 😎
This film is one of my guilty pleasures. I can never understand how it got snubbed at the Oscars. 😂
Best line: “I’ll torture you so slow, you’ll think it’s a career.”
Though he vocally despises the movie (and hates when people bring it up 😅) Richard E Grant is my favorite part of Hudson Hawk. He's at 11 the entire time and cranks it up even further in the finale somehow. I love that he dies airhumping the gold machine 🤣🤣🤣
me too
My favorite role of his is in LA Story.
Emily..... Emily... Emily... I'm sorry, you're great, BUT this movie is a masterpiece.
Is it, though?
@@skullberry9000 Yes.... Yes it is. 😊

@@skullberry9000hell yeah
@@skullberry9000 @skullberry9000 and Emily look at a Picasso: 'Why are their heads triangles? This is a lot..."
Oh my goodness, that intro trill from Pippin was beyond adorable.
The fact that Em didnt immediately love this movie makes me question everything Ive ever known about anything. 😅
This is a perfectly fine movie, but you do have to turn your brain off first. That was Emily's mistake - trying to make it make sense.
Emily is rational which doesn't apply to this movie😄
Yeah, you start thinking about shit in this movie, it's over. Because then you have to acknowledge the even funnier aspect of the move being that someone green lit this thing, funding from studio heads, someone heard this at a pitch meeting and was like '"yep, Im sold"!!! I will say this is the only time we will see early 90's era action comedy, at its most unhinged. Only outdone that same year by Nothing But Trouble. Anyone remember THAT bunch of f**kness?
@@nedzed3663 nothing but trouble had very few good moments for me, but Hudson hawk is full of good moments 🙂
@@nedzed3663 Nothing But Trouble is great! Where else are you gonna get Demi Moore, Dan Aykroyd, John Candy, and 2Pac?!?

That movie is the most beautifully-orchestrated feature-length WTF ever made. Her look right as the credits roll sums it up perfectly. As comedies go, it's a really weird flavor, but when it hits, man does it ever hit.
Guys, have you ever met a girl at a party who is really weird and annoying but funny at times and you are so confused wondering why you are so strangely attracted to her? Thats how I have always felt about this movie.
I love this movie! I saw it once as a kid, but when I was a teenager it would play on Dinner and A Movie on TBS. That's where I fell in love with it. When I got my first job at Blockbuster in 2001, I special ordered the DVD. Cut to 2007 when the special edition dvd came out and an annual tradition was born.
It was the night before Thanksgiving and I put this on. My Mom came home from work with two sweet potato pies. One was to take to Thanksgiving and one was for us. As I sat to watch the special edition, she gave me a slice of sweet potato pie to watch during the movie. I enjoyed both so much that I repeated it the next year. Mom got a kick out of that. Year after year I'd watch Hudson Hawk and have a slice of sweet potato pie the night before thanksgiving. I even started posting it online. It got to a point where friends would say the holidays don't officially start until they see the post.
Mom passed away unexpectedly in May of 2022. It was tough. And the following November I almost didn't do the annual tradition. But it always put a smile on Mom's face when I did, so I've kept the tradition alive. I know it's a silly movie, but god help me I enjoy it. I even have the poster next to my Die Hard poster in my apartment. But I also hold onto this because it's a great memory of my mom, who I miss every day.
Thank you guys for doing this movie!
One of my favorite Bruce Willis movies
this and last man standing
I've always been a fan of The Last Boyscout, but Hudson Hawk is my #1
I was so excited to see the thumbnail was Hudson Hawk. I love this absurdity and fun of this movie. So sad Emily didn't enjoy it, but Matt is still my spirit animal the whole way through.
Oh, hell yeah! Hudson Hawk catches a lot of hate from some crowds, but I always loved it so much as a teen. I must have watched it 9 or 10 times. I even figured out it took me exactly 1 American Pie to drive from my home to my job in the 90s, If the traffic lights were being kind.
Yeah my family used to watch it on rotation with about 10 other movies on Sundays , after we got back from Sunday lunch . We had a eclectic taste of Sunday afternoon movies from Hudson Hawk to the Longest Day , from Operation Petticoat and Down Periscope to Zulu and Raise the Titanic. 😃
It's an extremely polarizing movie. People either love it or hate it. There is no in-between. I have the DVD and have watched it so many times I know almost every word by heart.
This is a movie that I can totally understand why some people don't like it for all the totally valid reasons you talked about.
But the fact remains that I absolutely adore it. I love movies that are just chaotic food-processer'd concoctions of slapstick and violence and are also very quotable. For me it's in the same mental category as Samurai Cop or Rubber's Lover or TerrorVision.
Thanks for suffering through it for us, and I hope that your next round of movies are a little more up your alley!
Along the lines of Last Action Hero, don't analyze, just enjoy 🙂
Emily's reactions to Hudson Hawk are funnier than the movie itself.
"You make Jesus cry" LOL.
It's my favorite Bruce Willis movie. I adore this movie so much. It's a perfect 10 out of 10, and I don't care what anybody says. It's fun to see somebody actually watching it on youtube
This movie benefits from a second watch. The first time through you're like "WTF is this?" The second time around you know what to expect and can just relax and enjoy it's craziness.
"Catholic girls are scary" Gawd I LOVE this movie!
Holy schinkies!!! I just did my semi regular random search for anyone reacting to Hudson Hawk, and you guys dropped this gem just two hours earlier...
I haven't watched it yet, but I can't wait to finally see someone react to it. And SO thrilled it's you guys, two of my favourites, doing it!!
LOVE this movie!!!! It was VERY under appreciated when it first came out…i was pretty lonely in the theater when I saw it. I’m glad it’s getting some love now…the part where they’re singing during the heist is hilarious & kills me every time “…or would you rather be a fish…” 🤣🤣🤣🤣
I loved this film as a kid and was pretty shocked to find out people think it's bad as an adult
Favorite moment: 11:54 or so, his amused grin, her tightening grip on giant teddy, Bruce laughing maniacally. That should be memed up.
I personally enjoy Hudson Hawk BECAUSE it's batshit insane! Film Brain said in his review, "People either love it because it's so bad, it's good, or hate it because it's an egotistical mess. There's no middle ground." I can agree with that assessment.
Cinema Sherpa: "Charlie Bronson's always got rope". 😂😂😂
Hudson Hawk is one of Willis's underappreciated gems. I love its insanity from start to finish. Glad to see you got a chance to enjoy it.
this is from back in the day when Bruce Willis was romantic comedy actor - this movie makes a lot more sense when you compare it to shows he was in like Moonlighting
"Blind Date" was an early Bruce Willis comedy - with Kim Bassinger
So I grew up watching Hudson Hawk as if it were a family film, I didn't even know it was Rated R until I was in my teens. I did watch a lot of movies growing up and had no expectation of actors or tone or even transitions.
Watching Emily's reaction to it, has made me realize that for someone who hasn't seen it before just how weird and off-putting Hudson Hawk can be. I can say how you should feel with this film, and saying it isn't for you is absolutely understandable. As someone who has seen it a lot and got more of the jokes as I got older, this is still a family classic.
I appreciate you two watching it even though it didn't hit for Emily. I find Hudson Hawk to be a silly fun movie where you can put it on and not think too hard about it.
This is one of my all-time favorite movies! It is fun and makes me smile a lot !!!!!!!!!!!
I was waiting for someone to *FINALLY* do a reaction to Hudson Hawk. 😀 This movie is freaking hilarious. And I love hearing Bruce Willis and Danny Aiello singing.
Saw this when I was a kid and the best part was how they timed the robberies with songs.DAMM,Ive been timeing things based of songs ever since.
I would like to see a prequel where we see why Hudson Hawk went to jail
I don't know why but this movie always makes me smile it's silly chaotic and a blast.
Love this movie. I had friends in student radio so they both knew the actual run times of a ton of songs and would time things with songs.
We enjoy so many movies together! Have to say this is one of the greatest favorite movies that Emily didn't get since The Adventures Of Ford Fairlane. You two are still the most fun to watch movies with!
Hudson hawk is the funniest movie ever bruce Willis is awesome ❤
'NUN-dercover'?
Matt is a wordsmith!!!!🤣
Emily's mind imploding multiple times was worth it.
I remember seeing this when it came out. I was 20. I liked that some of the bad guys had candy bar codenames. That was pretty clever. 👍🏽
This means so much to me! For too long no one has reacted to this underrated gem. Hopefully others will file suit!!
I love this movie as a kid. You got to see “Blind Date” with Bruce Willis. It is hilarious. After watching the movie, you need to react to the trailer for blind date. It is hilarious as well. Just watch the trailer after watching the movie the trailer does spoil the movie a little bit. Love you guys. Keep the content up.
"You made Jesus cry!" - A Hudson Hawk movie review by Emily.
28:43 Even Pippin looks disappointed.....the movie made the cat sad!
This movie is the reason I could never take David Caruso seriously in any role LoL.
This and Oscar are among my wife's favorite movies. It took a while, I didn't care for it at first, but it has grown on me over the years.
I have Hudson Hawk on VHS and DVD but never saw Oscar in the stores. Love Sly's Oscar too. BTW sly's brother is in this too.
I have Hudson Hawk on VHS and DVD but never saw Oscar in the stores. Love Sly's Oscar too. BTW sly's brother is in this too.
I avoided this movie for 33 years, but I knew I had to watch it for Emily's reaction no matter what it did to my own brain. This was like being waterboarded during a fever dream brought on by an LSD overdose while wearing a broken VR helmet. Brain...hurts...now...
Finally someone else who loves this masterpiece
Imagine, it's opening day... you and your pals go to BK for the Hudson Hawk meal, and then you walk into this. Keep in mind everything Bruce had done up till this point was gold. You know how that messes with you as a kid? Half kids movie, half weird action movie, 3/4 talking with the dolphins, sprinkled with curse words and exploding heads.
I watched all of Moonlighting, and loved this movie. I still sing Side by Side every once in a while when I have a task to do. I have also used "I guess you won't be attending that hat convention in July" line as well as "Bunny, Ball Ball".
AS for movies.... if you didn't specify 'comedy' I would say The Last Boy Scout (1991) or RED (2010).... so I'm going to have to go with The Fifth Element (1997)
Please watch Every Which Way But Loose from 1978 and Any Which Way You Can from 1980 starring Clint Eastwood in 2 very funny movies about Clint as a prize fighter and his pet Orangatang.
.
Later maybe even watch Clint Eastwood's Paint You Wagon from 1969 Funny and it has a few great songs in it too.
O but this movie is also a golden comedy classic.
Ball Ball.
Every which way but lose is worth it just for the title song alone. RIP Eddie Rabbit.
Right turn Clyde!
"they call the wind Mariah"
Any Which Way You Can is much better than Every Which Way But Loose.
This is one of my favourite guilty pleasures.
Yes, it's cheesy. Yes, the dialogue is cringeworthy. Yes, the story is... not much to talk about. Yes, the songs are shoehorned in.
It's like a fever dream.
But damnit, it's just got several *_truckloads_* of charm. 😁
Emily should've had at least 1 edible before watching this...maybe 3 🤣🤣🤣 This movie is gold! You just have to learn to let go of rational and just enjoy pure early 90s silliness
So excited when I saw you reacting to this, it is one of the best films of all time, I used to watch this over and over as a teen and have been looking forward to the day someone finally reacts to it. I've always been curious why it seems to be such an unpopular film...
Just when I thought Miami Connection or The Room or even BREEN…but no. Hudson Hawk officially broke Emily.
- "Ah Parii. The City of LOVE" ... Saw this back in high school. Can't tell you how many times my friends and I quoted this flick back & forth to each other. Some great one liners.
- I know it's not everyone's favorite, but with the exception of Andie McDowell's drugged dolphin sequence, I loved every minute of this movie. The song timer gag is hilarious.
- Say what you will about this movie, but it took some BIG swings and was VERY original.
Oh my gosh...they are doing Hudson Hawk...this is such amazing news....nobody does this movie. It is widely considered to be terrible, but it is actually snidely funny and clever...mostly. LOL
The only thing better than FTFC reacting to this would be if they react to Joe Versus the Volcano. 💯
Was it considered terrible?. I haven't seen it in a while but i did find it enjoyable. Fingers crossed i remember right.
This is not the movie i thought it was. I have definitely seen this in the past but it's not been memorable for me. It's...certainly a movie.
It’s simple. Some people get it, some don’t. It’s actually a very smart movie. The two different audience perceptions don’t change that.
I think I might have been sort of "programmed" to like it and get it from a young age...my Dad showed me the Flint movies many times. LOL
@@iKvetch558the Flint movies are awesome. Hudson Hawk? No so much.
My SO and I love this movie. It did take years for either of us to admit it to each other, just in case
Overlooked gem! An honest to goodness fave since I was a little kid and saw it on cable
A lot of comedic elements in this gem!!!! Also, they're some modern references- 'Mario Brothers', CIA people named after some of our favorite candy bars(Snickers, Almond Joy, Butterfinger, Kit Kat, etc.), and there's Bruce Willis!!!!! Anyway, this was very creative and hilarious!!!!!
First I want to say that I have loved this movie from the time it came out, it's always been one of my top movies, with that said... In New York City, Bruce was walking down the street and someone stopped him and told him that they had just watched his new movie, (Hudson Hawk) without blinking, Bruce took out his wallet and apologized and give the guy 5 bucks to pay for his ticket.
Rented this with some friends for a Bruce Willis movie night as a teen. Got Die Hard 1&2, Striking Distance, The Last Boy Scout and then Death Becomes Her and Hudson Hawk as comedies. Had no doea what it was and we had a blast with it. For the last nearly 30 years we will still drop references randomly at the oddest times.
One of us would have a ball, any ball, and just chuck it at anothe friend "oh Bunny, ball ball" like when my bud and i played a charity golf game f our kids' school and my buddie chucked a gold ball at me. We'd also just drop song titles and made up song lengths while doing something and start singing the song for shits and giggles.
We also have a running joke with "Don't worry, I'm wearing ing my girdle" wen ripping each other over "expanding" a bit over the years 😅
Bunny, ball ball!
It’s surprising if a week goes by and no one says this.
Classic. One of the funniest movies I've seen. I had stomach cramps and cheek cramps the first time I saw it. And I still laugh a lot. It's a beaut.
Finally! Someone’s doing this one. Bruce has so many slept-on movies that are perfect for these reaction channels. I’ve still, yet, to see anyone do a reaction on “Lucky Number Sleven” or “16 Blocks”.
Y'know... usually we watch these reaction-type thningamies for the first timer reactions. The gasps and the guffaws! But this time... I don't know about y'all, but for this one? I'm 100% here for our Cinema Sherpa's reaction! A delight. A DELIGHT!!!
(left side - sheer joy and nostalgia) (right side - incredulity and WTF)
(middle - snoozing. It's fine. Stop making noise. Zzzz...)
^_^
I absolutely LOVE this movie, one of my all-time favourites.
One of my FAVORITE bad movies, and I never see anyone react to it. Great watch.
Emily's disappointment that Bruce Willis is not a magician as well as a musician.
No one ... AND I MEAN NO ONE ... reacts to this GEM of a movie!!! 🤣😂🤣😂 LETS GOOO!!! :D
Man, eff that. This movie was so much fun for 14 year old Chaz when it came out. We were a Bruce Willis household and this was a constant watch. And still is for me. Guiltiest of guilty pleasures.
One of the greatest, campy movies of all time. Sometimes Emily makes me cry. 😞
this movie is Magic, beautiful magic.
9/10
Oh hell yea, this movie is my ultimate guilty pleasure movie. Also this was also the movie that introduced me to Leonardo Da Vinci and his work.
WAT. This is my own personal gem do not expose it to the masses! Thank you. I got the power!
I knew we were in trouble when you weren't on board with the singing songs for time signatures.
I'm sorry you didn't enjoy. This is one of my favorite absurdist films of all time... but it definitely is not for everyone.
The meaning of this movie is how important the coffee is.
My thanks for undertaking this comedy "classic". Here's just hoping that Emily may yet mellow towards it in the fullness of time. 😉
I thought Emily would've liked this movie, shocked, it's one of my favs, ur friend from Canada
Who would've thought that violent deaths and comedy were a hard mix. However this movie definitely benefits from a second or third watch. Once you know where you're headed the path this movie takes you becomes strangely pleasing.
I'm glad I'm not the only one who actually liked this movie I remember Tiny Toons making fun of this.
I was about 15 when this first came out and was convinced this was a cinematic masterpiece.
HUDSON HAWK!!! Hell yeah! I didnt think that movie made it out of the 90's. I thought all copies were destroyed and all production disavowed by everyone.
HDTGM had an episode on this movie, because Avaryl, their producer, loves this movie and says it is one of her favorites of all time. Well knowing it is not a good movie. She and her friend Andrew has their own RUclips channel talking movie - MovieBotches (replace the O with an I). And they also did an episode of this movie. 😁😁
Awesome movie! And everyone did fantastic. We needed a sequel.
Emily is just wrong.
Need to watch Moonlighting and Blind Date.
Great reaction guys :)
For me This character feels like a take on his character David Addison ( moonlighting tv show) - and I'm glad you mentioned it.
My wife recently watched Moonlighting and it was surprising how much David Addison looks like Hudson Hawk.
Also, Bruce Willis plays them the same.
this is a great movie, you just cant put too much thought into it. just enjoy the ride.
Pippen is the cutest, laziest, awesome cat ever! Lol
I know that Emily didn’t particularly like this movie, but for me, I saw when I was a kid, so it has a lot of nostalgia. Is the greatest movie? No, it isn’t, but I still think it’s fun.
I can't believe you're watching it. Awesome.
I absolutely loved this movie, Bruce and Danny looked like they were having so much fun making it. Never fully understood why it bombed so hard, though I did get that after Die Hard, Bruce's image had done a total 180 away from his original comedic lovable smartass image to full on action hero, so some people couldn't keep up with the whiplash.
(Edit) and amusingly, you discussed that very aspect afterwards. 🤣
That's it. After "Die Hard 2" especially, people went into this expecting standard action fare. The movie was the victim of critics calling it a bomb before most could go see it. "Backdraft" became a more attractive hit to a lot of people along with "City Slickers" while a lot of the hype was around "Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves."
Bruce Willis was originally a comedy actor on the 80's TV show Moonlighting.
You can't compare this with Super Mario Bros, this at least has some charm to it & a great cast (no insult meant to Bob Hoskins). In some ways it was ahead of its time, it would have been right at home with Scary Movie & the other parody movies of the early 2000s (with a little tweaking).
It always cracks me up that films that are supposedly terrible are clearly well made and yet people can watch AI of Will Smith eating spaghetti and act likes it the greatest piece of art that’s ever existed.
Oh wow, NOBODY reacts to this fantastic movie! Thank you! I've loved this movie since i was a kid!!
Bruce Willis was going bald and part of the budget went to painting out his bald spot in each frame it shows up in.
There is an amazing Richard E. Grant film called “How to get A head in Advertising”. I would love to see Emily react to it. If you can find it. It’s a pretty obscure film. One of my favorites though.
If you want to find it, both it and another of Grant’s best films from that era, Withnail and I, are available to stream on the Criterion Channel. Those are some Grade-A Bugfuck cinema right there…
