It was ABOUT TIME you guys watched this wonderful movie! 😃 Strangely enough, almost no one has reacted to it. This baffles me. 🤔
My wife and I consider its main song, "How Long Will I Love You?", OUR song. 🙂

"We're all traveling through time together, every day of our lives. All we can do is do our best to relish this remarkable ride."
Fun Fact: In South Korea, more than 3 million people watched the movie, which made it a surprise hit there.
Bibliophile Enthusiast Fact: The book Bill Nighy's character reads out to Tim (Domhnall Gleeson) near the end of the film is Great Expectations (1860) by Charles Dickens, chapter four. 4
Art Imitates Life Fact: The iconic scene where Tim (Domhnall Gleeson) and Mary (Rachel McAdams) have their first date in the dark is inspired by a real-life experience of the film's director, Richard Curtis. 5
Deep Cut Reference Fact: Bill Nighy's line to Domhnall Gleeson "You can't kill Hitler or shag Helen of Troy" is real fun for movie aficionados for at least two reasons. First, Bill Nighy played General Friedrich Olbricht in Valkyrie (2008), which is a dramatization of the assassination attempt on Hitler. Second, Brendan Gleeson (father of Domhnall) played Menelaus the King of Sparta and the husband to Helen of Troy in Troy (2004). 11
Casting Notes Fact: This is one of four movies in which Rachel McAdams stars as the love interest of a time traveler. The previous ones were The Time Traveler's Wife (2009), in which she played the titular wife to Eric Bana's character and Midnight In Paris (2011), in which she played the fiancée of Owen Wilson's character. She also stars in Doctor Strange (2016), in which she plays a time manipulating doctor's love interest. In none of these movies does McAdams's character get to participate in time-travel herself. 11

Always liked this movie. It ends up.being about more than a love story. It's about appreciating what you have, so in a sense similar to It's a Wonderful Life. Not sure if those restaurants exist where you eat in the dark but I would love to do that.

    Great selection. Can't wait!
I hope you try the other flicks by the same screenwriter, the phenomenal Richard Curtis. If it's not enough that he co-created Mr Bean(!), he also gifted us gems like Four Weddings And A Funeral, which is top of the list of what I'd love for you to watch (which went on to be the highest grossing British flick at that time), Notting Hill, Bridget Jones's' Diary (adapted from a book but even the author gives him more praise), Love Actually...

I knew Toni was going to enjoy and have an emotional reaction to this. It’s an often forgotten or ignored gem. IMHO miss sold as a Rom-Com, when its more a homage to Parenthood and a father-son Drama. Beautiful movie.

It may be because I saw it first, but this just makes me want to watch "The Girl Who Leapt Through Time" (2006). It was a fabulous rom-com about a teenage girl that discovers she can literally "leap" through time and change the past (don't worry, she can't go very far back). It's kinda between this movie and Eternal Sunshine. I like characters figuring things out, which "About Time" only partly does.

6:10 I see exactly what she is thinking. If that was the case and he couldn't come back, his family in the present wouldn't see him again and time would move forward, and he would be forever in the past. Of course he can come back, but still, I like how she thinks.

  • @Demigord

The first thing I realized when imagining time travel many years back was how easily you'd affect the future, changing which sperm fertilized an egg being so easy.
Anyway, I don't remember hearing of this one, either. It only did $15 million US, but $87 worldwide.

Rachel McAdams made two other time travel movies, THE TIME TRAVELER'S WIFE and MIDNIGHT IN PARIS. Both are of the same calibre as this one. And you should enjoy both about as much as this one, too. One however is geared more towards Toni's apparent taste while the other contains a very interesting insight using time travel to demonstrate it. I won't say which is which.

As someone suggested try 'Midnight in Paris' Rachel McAdam's in that too but in a different role, not as moving perhaps but very funny, a Woody Allen film...and try another Richard Curtis movie ''4 Weddings and a Funeral' which is a classic movie, very funny and moving, Hugh Grant's in that..

I wonder if SAFETY NOT GUARANTEED will be watched? It's a slightly older film but soooo terrific and also about a time-traveling device. Usually cast as a comedy - and it's not a drama per se - but it's more of a wonderment film. "I wonder - ?" Well - safety's not guaranteed!

No, it didn't work for me. I don't warm to geeks, if you don't have manly men, at least have a guy with confidence and good humour. Can't stand guys in movies afraid to approach girls, that's too much like real life! We want to see confident guys!
