How to: Remove a Rusted Receiver Hitch! Tech Tip: Heat is Your Friend!!!
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 4 авг 2022
- I picked up a donor rig for the tow pig on the cheap! But the 1998 Ford Expedition has a hitch stuck in the receiver that we need to get out. Ok, we don't really NEED to get it out but if the rest of the rig is no good we at least have a receiver hitch we can utilize somewhere else. Hopefully you find these tips useful! As always, thanks for watching!

mine has been in the truck for 20 years or so. Im in for a treat. Thank you and God bless and remember all things for Gods glory!
Always great to see Mortske and Duff having fun. A video with fire and a sledgehammer makes for a great time! 👍
Loved the Duff 'rollover' on the sign off.
Great Mortski week with Rusty Riv, Hitch, and The Duff Dog...
Thanks Mort!
I’ve got an 08, bought it new and @ 79K Miles no Major Issues, Thank the Lord. I Appreciate you having us along, keep It Safe Out There Sir & Pat Duff on the Head for a Fella
I enjoy watchin stuff get fixed and things get done. Make me laugh or teach me something is extra good. Thanks for the entertainment.
Glad you enjoy it Jimmy!
You sure showed that son of a biscuit who was boss. Excellent assistance from Duff as ever. He’s an asset.
Thanks for sharing a guy told me to buy a new receiver when the hitch was stuck ! Glad I exercise like Mortske ! Saved money !
Brilliant
Pretty good information on not to leave the receiver in you hitches. Got one now in the back of my motor home. Think before it rust’s up. Take it out for sure. Thank you for sharing your wisdom. Sometimes we need reminders. Thank you for sharing!
Glad it helped
I've got one in my motorhome that will never come out. Got a good one in my pickup that does whatever I wanted to. How about Show and Tell of other stuff you collect. Every few months a reminder of what you have for sale. Laugh of the day from running with the locals. Repairs and upgrades around the shop and the house. Take a drive in one of your better cars. Getting ready for a date with Susie Schumacher down the street. Life in a small town. Thanks for the Friday morning coffee video.
I liked the auction episode a lot - that was very interesting! I used to do that for a short time. Had to drive crap back to a dealership.
I’m ok with anything as long as you and Duff are having fun.
General maintenance is always a great help Morski
Good name on the 🍻
Nice heatin and beatin! Like to see any of the unusual shenanigans u guys get into through the week. We’re not picky
How nice! I can watch Mortske and Duff before work! Great start to the day!
You’re doing an awesome job thank you
Glad you enjoyed!
Son of a biscuit..! On my way to work. Need to wait till my lunch hour to watch my favorite RUclipsr. Dang it..! Cheers from California🍾
You worked way to hard on that receiver hitch. Loved the video. Enjoy extra content on this channel. Thanks.
Thanks 👍
Great tips on the hitch Mr. Mortske!
This brings back warm and fuzzy childhood memories of my dad telling me to swap hitches on his ‘01 F150 after leaving one in for a few WI winters. Thanks for the reminder Mortske!
Right on
I dip it in waste oil in the fall.
When not in use... keep it out and in the trunk or under a seat strapped in place as needed. My experience is that it's best to heavy grease it, wrap it in multiple layers of thick plastic and put it into a cardboard box. It'll be ready to go as soon as you need it. Best wishes! 🛢️👍🏻

I’d like to see you and duff having fun. Like lake swimming on a hot day. 😀
Give the receiver a coating of Fluid Flim , should prevent rust for quite awhile. A friend that was in the Navy told me even after 6 months in seawater the metal didn’t rust. Tech tip.👍
I'll give Fluid Film two thumbs up... I was using it starting clear back in the 1980s when I was first working for a major airline. It isn't the best penetrant but it's excellent for a spray lube and anti-rust agent. As for the trailer hitch sliders, it kills me that folks don't slather them with heavy grease before putting them in. Of course the smart guy doesn't leave them in during periods of non-use but let's not go there. My best and most permanent solution is to give one a heavy Nickel plate layer to eliminate the possibility of rust but that tends to be an expensive proposition unless you can do it yourself at work. By heavy layer I mean .020 to .030 per side re-machined flat after plating. That also means pre-machining the shaft undersize of course. That may sound like overkill but you're talking about the shaft never rusting in your lifetime. Or several. That's what makes it worth doing - you'll never have to spend time on it again. Ever. Peace & good vibes! 👨🏻🔧👍🏻🇺🇸🔩

I knew you could do it! Love to Duff!
Keep up the good work. Love to watch
Thanks, will do!
Mortske and duff dog ,what a team, respect from the uk, 😂👍
Very informative and helpful and humorous all at the same time. Oh and heartwarming, Very nice 😁😅🤣😂🙂🥲
I like stuff like this. Simple how-to videos from around the shop and farm.
Last stinger I pulled was in a long parked 88 4runner with a custom rear bumper. There was no removing it in one piece. Had to cut it off flush with the receiver, then sawzall through the inner walls of the stinger and bust it out in pieces. That was fun. I buy stingers at yard sales and such for 5-10 bucks a piece. Nice to have a few around.
Ick
Same trying to get my 88 4runner of yue trailer and the hitch digs into the ground
Hell yeah brother! Do what ya want, we'll watch
Thanks for the video bud cant wait for Monday
Duff ROCKS!!
that's what our hitches look like after a couple of years in New England, love that road salt
Fits like a glove 👌
Hey Mortske: Nothing like using an acetylene torch and a sledgehammer on a hot summer night especially when freeing up a tow hitch on a '98 Found On the Road Dead tow pig..... Especially when the Duffalumpagus is outside rolling around in the cool tall grass and cow poop.....LOL Least Duff could do was to hold the torch while you wailed on the hitch... From the home of PB Blaster.... Cleveland, OH.......
Correction HOT AUGUST NIGHT lol 😂
@@gettothechase636 That too........
I really like this channel, it seems to be more relaxed and fun, (easy for me to say, LOL). You could shoot a vid on changing out a headlight assembly, I just had to do this on my daughters car. Pretty simple stuff, but can have it's challenges. Anyway keep cool and keep these vids coming!
Duff is the best !!!
Dang, that was a lot of work! 😳 Glad you finally got it out of there. Lol
Thanks you have now shown me how to get the receiver hitch out just need a bigger torch and bigger hammer
Heatin & Beatin! GO Mortske!
You show some of it on the main channel, but I would really enjoy watching in depth the work you do on the retrieval’s. It’s awesome watching if there’s trees to cut, or seeing how deep in the ground they’ve sank. It could also double as a preview of what’s to come. Regardless, I’ll still watch both channels. Great work.
We can arrange that
Ya, them boys in Bagota Texas do a full video on the retrieval, and then a full video on the revival.
Love watching! Also Kevin it you heat it up like you did and cool it quickly with water hose it will break the rust free! And sometimes it will come out!
Doesn’t that temper the steel?
@@moremortskerepair4354 No it doesn't I was a heavy equipment mechanic for 35 year's we learned that from other guy's there and it does work! Enjoy watchaing your channels
Use a torch and you'll definitely mess up the temper if there is one! Will there be? Depends on the manufacturer and the quality although the odds are high that the part that is heat treated is the shaft and not the receiver tube. I wouldn't worry about it too much though... just be sure to check the shaft for cracks after extraction. One thing to note - when pounding on the shaft to get it out of the receiver tube... if it bends or deforms easily then ditch it for a new one! You've got a hitch shaft made from sub-standard steel. Don't risk life and limb nor your property on a POS hitch shaft. In fact, you should remove the ball and destroy the hitch shaft so nobody else attempts to use it either. These days, I doubt you'd find that poor of an assembly for sale but seriously cheap crap was sold back in the 80s and prior. You never know what you'll have on your hands when dealing with old, used parts so beware. Peace & good vibes! 👨🏻🏭🔥

Very KOOL Mortske Duff is a Happy Camper
My dad had all da yoopers albums, and it was a requirement to listen to it all while playing cards at deer camp every year. I've even seen them fellers live with him.
Guess I will be doing the one on my truck tomorrow. Thanks 👍
I'd like to see some welding repairs, I suck at welding but I'd like to get better. Love both channels!
Cool video! Sending to my mom. She insists on leaving the hitch on her truck to hit my knees and also, she claims, prevent a crash? Love the short vids. Watched on my lunch break. 😃
Ouch. Thanks for the feedback
Now I got a problem. Thanks again, and remember Mortske, God loves you! You - love Him too! Nice dog you got there. Duff looks like a very good dog 🙂
Giving Duff a bath! Lol. Love your channels.
He loves them…
Hi from uk TM & DD 👋 👍 🐾🐾 man that was a good beating session in in time-lapse mode lol 🤣 I must admit tho I think watching you and duff in outro with that sunsetting sky was watchable than pounding the sweat off that hitch lol and again I will watch anything you upload Mr Mortske👌 thanks for your time be safe and see you soon 👍 👋 🐾🐾
Much appreciated Matk
Wowzer! I'm just trying to get the ball off to reverse my receiver. I don't think it will ever come unscrewed. I guess I'll buy a new one. AND never leave it in the receiver after watching this video.
What do you mean you're not going to restore stuff on this channel? This is the perfect platform for quick updates on cool shop long term project vehicles!
Not our thing
@@moremortskerepair4354
That's to bad but will still watch.
You got it done but it didn't look like much fun......until Duff at the end. 😎
Take us to work one day. Your real job.
Yeah corporate America probably frowns upon that
Woot! A video to watch in morning on toilet !
Awesome video, yeah, here in Bandera Tx, I don't think I've ever had a stuck receiver hitch. We don't have much by the way of rust to contend with. Great video none the less.
Yep, it's not a big problem in Oklahoma either. It does happen on occasion, but not often.
Wow, I really wish I could say that! I live in coastal Maine, where it's sea salt in the summer and road salt in the winter. I've seen hitches rust off because they're used to launch boats in salt water. Always have to take the hitch out when it isn't being used, and grease it up when you put it in.
I want to see some skid loader action.
Love those bobcats!
there aint nuthin more enjoyable than watching a Boy and his Dog...
Shallow ditch, tree, torch, sledgehammer case of beer and gravity worked for me. Word hoss!
I just want to watch you, enjoy you doing what you do, all the better if it has to do with Cars or Trucks. Forget the Throw Rug LOL! Thumbs up #242
Hits camera with sledge...." you still workin...you'll be fine " all you needed to add was "rub some dirt on it" and you could qualify as a top notch little league/peewee football coach....Briiliant!..... really enjoy the new channel 😀
Good call!
Wanna see the old Ford truck come to life !
PB Blaster is the good stuff! Made in the rust belt, and smells like an old chemical factory so you know it's good.
Haven't changed the recipe in 100 years, cause they got it right the first time.
Nice surprise on a Friday morning! That one was really stuck, good job getting it out. I would have tried the pole and chain thing! ha ha
Thanks 👍
Man with the plan and a cold sandwich in the other hand lol your the best ever
Thanks for your help Mortske - I don't have an acetylene and oxygen torch, but I do have a map gas torch. Maybe that will get it hot enough to release it with some wailing on it. Thanks for the helpful video 🙂
Good luck
I just tried that with mine and had zero luck
Sam Adam's porch rockers are awesome on a hot day too
I just went out and pulled my hitch out of the receiver. Torch out of gas and too old to swing a hammer like that😩. Luv that pooch👍👍
I wanted to have a cold one after all that heaten and beaten, cheers!!! Mortske aerobics.
Hunting set up , Yard an land , general tom foolery , Duff chasin things , and more Rivvy. I watch em all.....
Roger that
Oooo man you on time today sweeeeeeeet
I love your dog
I enjoyed your video, I hope this will work for my hitch
I hope so too!
i sold a 96 explore it was rolled but it was not bad had 130,000 miles on it had zero leaks at all clean underside picked it up for 50 bucks drove it for 6 years with 0 problems sold it for 600 because it was parked for 6 months got my wife a 99 toyota 4 runner cheap and fixed everything on it ended up having 3,000 in it but it is nice now
What you need is a proper security camera on the outside of the shop. Perhaps facing that perfect spot for performing yard doughnuts! 😁
Hi Mortske, as a British viewer I would like to see more of the estate sales that you find some of your vehicles at. Here in the UK we don’t have anything like those, people over there just seem to hang on to more of their old vehicles.👍👍🇬🇧
Sounds good
Gym Membership 🤣 Thanks Mortske!
Our pleasure
You know I have been watching your videos for years and this is the first time I’ve seen you winded.
I'm less out of shape!
I see a Lone Star bewer box on the top of the fridge. Being from Texas i have drank a LOT of it, good beer!!
Yup
I’d love to see some motorcycle/three wheeler of death/ atv shenanigans. Big fan from the bakken.
Oh boy. Death traps
Damn, you need a box of samiches after that fix, hope you have a great day !
What you need is a 55 gallon drum of Evap-O-Rust. That stuff is a miracle worker on rusty parts.
There's a channel called Hand Tool Rescue that uses it to restore old tools - which is pretty cool. You could use it on stuff like that hitch receiver.
I would set up an electrolysis rust removal tank. Much cheaper to operate and very effective for 100% rust removal. There is one downside, it takes time but that's a small price to pay in comparison to other methods of rust removal. Peace & good vibes! 👨🏻🔬
- Max Giganteum
Loader up with bearing grease 👍
I have had good luck with putting antisieze on them
I could hear you wheezing all the way in Arizona!
I'd be happy to see simple road trips, maybe just to the parts store or day to day outings; trips to view potential purchases maybe ? Great content on both channels as always. Big thumbs up also for taking the time to reply to fan mail as well as replies on here :) Your Live with Duff sessions were always popular
Thanks for the feedback
I agree William, I would also like to see those things.
Agreed
Love what ever video you and duff do . I would like longer video on second channel would be nice .
Only so many hours in the day
Almost bought a corp ford. Till I asked the dealer biggest service problem. The body needs to be lifted to get V10 out. Glad I bought 03 Yukon .
I’ve watched you before but realized I wasn’t subscribed on my main channel, love your content and humor haha but the only problem I have on mine it’s a bully step hitch from the old owner, last week I got the pin out was trying to salvage the step cuz it’s useful and the chrome still looks nice so trying to keep it intact lol wrapped a tow strap around it with the rollback and pulled on it using the wheel lift and was pulling my sequoia around (on dirt, mistake #1) but I also only have a little map gas torch not acetylene which I think I need lol already started melting the bottom of my bumper but I’m gonna hit it again now been lubing the shit out of it and all, just really don’t think I need to replace the reciever like everyone’s been saying I don’t have money to throw around 😂
Great video
I agree
I second
love those clean shop walls their still cleaner than the board of health after it is the international headquarters of Duff land maybe have Duffs buddies come over and paint that giant blank wall heck yeah with their tails no doubt
"Lone star beer, and Bob Wills music has kept my heart alive since you've been gone."
That was fun!
Fun job with the hammer. Made you huff like an old steam engine.......lol.
Videos about tires? I love watching the tire machine working. It’s so cool!
Hmmm we’re always doing tires
@@moremortskerepair4354 I know and I never get tired of it lol. But I’m probably in the minority.
@@amandathomas5204 Easy enough for us to do so we'll put it on the list!
My first truck I hooked up to a tree bent the receiver good ol' Canadian rust welded
Been soaking mine with oil, moved just a bit earlier with a 4 lb beater, I'll try a 10 next with heat. Do have a badass air chisel if hose reaches, ole 82 bronco needs a fuel pump. Does run a minute on a full bowl tho.
I’m glad I live in the south.
Great video Mortske. A shop is brutal enough, but a shop without torches is pure hell. Love the channel! Keep On Motoring Brother! 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Ted Nugent reference….love it
Great job
Thanks Matt
Very helpful
Glad to be of assistance
I was hoping for some system using a 30 ton jack.I have had very good luck with frozen plumbing threaded internal clean out caps just drilling s hole in the center and using the sawzall to kiss the threads. Hit inwards with a punch and the plug gets smaller. Brass plugs come out super easy this way.
I love the “Mortzke Tech Tip of the Day!” 😂😂😂
