    As a former 11B Airborne Infantry soldier let me be CLEAR, there is NOTHING cool about being in the infantry. It SUCKS ASS and I was a super motivated soldier and made E-5 in two years. First, you are always out, unprotected in the elements. You are either sweating your balls off or freezing them off, getting rained on for days and still training soaked head to toe.....SUCKS. In the field, chow SUCKS! MRE's may be a bit better than when I was in but an MRE is an MRE. Imagine going for WEEKS without a shower, your hair so caked with dirt you start getting dread locks. Imagine humping 120 pounds of combat gear in 90 degree heat through some of the toughest terrain this planet has to offer, soaked like you just got out of a pool in sweat. I don't care who you are, that is MISERABLE! Another unfortunate aspect of being in the infantry is you will be surrounded by some of the dumbest people on the planet, for them the Infantry was their only choice. I had a 123 GT score and I was one of the three smartest guys in the battalion by a LARGE MARGIN. I was on a career fast track, E5 in 2 years, I had my EIB, Airborne and Air assault wings and was getting ready to go to Ranger school until a training accident left me with three bad compression fractures and bulging disks. The Army decided that surgery would be to expensive and there was no guarantee I would ever be able to perform my job as an infantry soldier so they cut bait and gave me a medical discharge. So I was all in, a motivated hard charger and the Army would rather throw me away instead of trying to fix me. Trust me when I say that in the infantry the Army does not give a F about you in the slightest.

      I think the only reason why peacetime infantry is considered "cool" is to dumbass naive kids who haven't joined the Army, and they actually think signing up for infantry is going to let them be real life Call of Duty.
      I might consider infantry to be "cool" *if you were actually DOING your job* , which is being deployed in a combat zone and being on an open battle field like world war 2 or being in a jungle like Vietnam and shooting. *But since we are in PEACETIME, what's the point of being infantry when you CAN'T do your job* and the only time you actually doing anything related to it is when you are in the field (as you said, *going for WEEKS without a shower* ).
      Peacetime 11B might not be quite so bad if you are an *OFFiCER* But Enlisted infantry seems to be *REALLY STUPID AS HELL* because according to everyone I've talked to who's done it, *you are micromanaged even more and treated even more like little moronic children (you can't spell "infantry" without "INFANT")* than other MOS, and the Army already treats enlisted soldiers like children to a worse degree than other branches like the Air Force.
      All you hear and see about garrison enlisted infantry kids doing is doing hard PT in the mornings, then spending the day doing clean up details and sweeping the motorpool in order for leadership to keep them busy because there's nothing else for them to do.
      Then there seems to be more fuck fuck games than other MOS and mass punishments like still being dropped for pushups because infantry pretty much is the closest thing to basic training.
      *FUCK INFANTRY*

    • @golfery5119
      @golfery5119 3 месяца назад +1

      Oh and THEN there's the fact that infantry sets you up for NOTHING in the real world when you get out the military (even if you did do 20 years and retire, you'll still have to leave eventually). And I *DARE* somebody to say "you can use your GI Bill" which is *ass backward thinking* because it would be better to use your GI Bill *AS A BACKUP* to a translatable job.
      And something else about the field that sucks in addition to what you said about going weeks without a shower (and also dealing with your bosses 24/7, and also the fact that you can't contact your family at all because there's no mobile data/internet and that's even assuming you'd be allowed to have a cell phone at all since some commands ban you from having a cell phone to even listen to music in your downtime).
      I won't forget a lady telling me about her husband who was infantry and got out as an E6. She said that since her husband ate so much garbage in the form of MRE's and also what was prepared by cooks in the field, when he got out of the field and came home, his digestive system was so messed up that when he took a shit, it stunk out the whole house.
      Yeah, fuck infantry. Pick a better MOS, outside of combat Army, and if possible, outside of FORSCOM period, or just join the Air Force (and avoid a MOS in aircraft maintenance) or Space Force or Coast Guard and avoid the Army/Marines altogether.

      @CRAZYHORSE19682003 Yes, infantry is difficult and not for everyone. What I'm getting from your diatribe is that you're just a jaded asshole with a superiority complex.
      @golfery5119 Infantry teaches adaptability in the face of adversity and gives limited exposure to a wide range of other fields. My unit had to fix our own vehicles and install our own indoor plumbing on our COP in Afghanistan. If someone is struggling to find gainful employment then they need to get professional help building a resume. As for your bullshit about college, the purpose of the GI Bill is to allow folks to get a degree in the field of their choosing. That can be supplemental to their MOS training, or get them into a brand new field.

Work hard, study and get as high a score possible on the ASVAB. Get a job like Magnetic Resonance Imaging Technician, MRI Tech. You won't be cannon fodder in wars for the 1%, you will get trained in a field that will ALWAYS have a job waiting for you after the Army. MRI Tech's average about 80k a year in salary.
