- Microsoft has revived its Flight Simulator series after more than a decade, promising gamers a replica of the entire globe to play on.
It does so using new AI-driven technology - one that needs a constant fast internet connection to work at its best.
The BBC's David Molloy took to the skies to find out if it lived up to its lofty promise.

This brand new flight simulation game is awesome! How come it wasn't named "Microsoft Flight Simulator 11" despite looking and feeling a whole lot like a fantastic sequel to Flight Simulator X, though? It's really odd. However, I look forward to playing it when the DVD-ROM PC release comes out here in the United States.
Why do you think that's odd? They gave it the franchise name and the year it released.
@@NavidIsANoob Because the full title of this game is inconsistently unnumbered since there is already a 1982 PC/MS-DOS game of the same name. If any flight simulation game successor deserved to be numbered, this was it, even though Flight Simulator X came out in 2006. Same with the third installment of Motocross Madness on Xbox Live Arcade. It kind of reminds me of how they marketed LEGO Batman 2: DC Super Heroes as "the first LEGO game to feature voices" while the truly first LEGO video game with voices was LEGO Island for the PC (even though I believe they were just talking about the fact LEGO Batman 2 was the first LEGO game developed by Traveller's Tales with spoken dialogue in it) as Microsoft and LEGO have two different things in common: they often act as if a lot of their old video game products are out of existence nowadays, and they make surprising habits with their modern products. They are just as odd as the original Xbox's successors, the Xbox 360 and the Xbox One, being simply referred to as the "Xbox" sometimes. To my knowledge, it's like Americans and Canadians accidentally calling soccer its international name, football, as North America has its own football game with completely different aspects, like gridiron forms. Just expressing honest thoughts!

The reason is because they probably want to make this a service just like Windows 10 receiving updates every year and adding new 3D models and adding new features like the VR support coming this fall.

Official support for VR is coming to the HP Reverb G2 Microsoft Mixed reality VR headset making it a sort of exclusive. Microsoft hasn't talked about supporting other headsets though, hopefully will come in the future. Remember that the HP Reverb G2 controllers mirror the Oculus touch controllers in button configuration, so even though official support to Oculus might not come, you may be able to use an Oculus headset comfortably in the game

We now can appreciate the feel of different levels of turbulences, and if you're not actually shaking you can still compare and appreciate visually by the horizon around you and the simulated head view how severe are the waves. ( VFR ) By a more tricky way, ( lots of us caught in this madness worship this one ! ) by the speed at wich the needles move or how fast is the rate the numbers tumble up or down according to the last speed and altitude cheks ... ( IFR ) We can interpret how hard or smooth respond the controls in the consequences of an icing airframe fully loaded in a mountainous area. Then the next minute compare it with wind shears on short final a hot summer day very light and low fuel ... For me it's all about understanding what may be in progress with the weather, the frame, the engines, the avionics, your position, the traffic, picking up new instructions in the middle of an endless talk-talk show AND have the next step allready reviewed ! Anticipation is an old gauge but a good instrument. We can with this new sim feed it with more accurate datas and widen our eyes in all general directions, ( headings j should say ! ) on the tremendous eye candy Microsoft and their teams just released... Be responsable, no matter the reality ! That's what j've learned and practice frequently since MFS II. There's a ton of other derived possibilities with this sim ... Any sims, actually ! Hey ! Thank you by the way to ( Radar ) spot our insane activity !

I’ve been playing the game nonstop since it came out and I am absolutely in love with it and can’t stop smiling or gaping in awe at all of the amazingly gorgeous and beautiful landscapes that I’ve seen 😊

Everybody is completely shocked about the hardware requirements but in 5 years a PC with that hardware will be a mid-range PC. It's normal that they demand such a strong PC. 10 years ago bought a pc with 6 GB ram and 2 GB vram and it was then a masterpiece of hardware
shit it doesn't even take 5 years. It's usually less then a year or two your computer is completely obsolete.
@@bpdubb I bought a new one some months ago. 32 GB ram, 8GB vram i7 4,6 GHz I hope it will not get obsolete too soon :)
