- It's been 10 years since one of the most remarkable rivalries gave birth to the 'Kennett Curse.'
After the 2008 Grand Final, Hawthorn president Jeff Kennett made comments that his Hawks had a mental edge over Geelong in big games. The Cats went on to win the next 11 games in a row against Hawthorn, but it is the manner in which this happened that truly amazed.
Nine of the 11 games were decided by 10 points or less. A nail-biting preliminary final finally broke the hoodoo.

Story goes that after the 2008 grand final, Paul Chapman said "We are never losing to that Hawthorn side again". Chapman played in the next 11 Geelong Hawthorn games, but got injured in the semi final the week before the 2013 prelim and never played another game for Geelong again. Technically Chapman was right, he never lost to the Hawks while playing for Geelong again.
I think suspension that's why he didn't play against hawks in 13 preliminary final

As a Carlton fan I have to personally say not only do I have a soft spot for both the Hawks and the Cats.But also I love when these two play hardly ever a dull game and it's like always watching a final outstanding and total respect:)

What nobody mentions is Hawthorn's tactics to win to 2008 GF weren't in the spirit of the game, so much so that the AFL had to change the rules.
This is why they were cursed.
Hawthorn version of a curse - 4 year premiership drought, either side 4 flags! That said credit to Geelong, when I was a kid Carlton v Collingwood were the biggest games - but for ten years it was these two - and often daylight to whoever was next. Loved going along knowing they'd be the biggest games of the year.
The Kennett Curse only proved Jeff Kennett’s theory, Geelong won 11 in a row, then Hawthorn won when it mattered, that win was what lead to the 3 Peat. I am aware of the 2011 Qualifying Final, and although the week off is valuable, it didn’t mean much because Hawthorn bounced back to play in the Preliminary and played outstandingly, but unfortunately it was enough to play in the Grand Final that year. 😭 Anyway, my point being that Jeff Kennett wasn’t wrong.
One of the best rivalries in VFL/AFL history.
However, I still hold the assertion that, had the Cats won that prelim in 2013, the Dockers would've won the grand final that year, and this is coming from an Eagles fan.

The game clock stops during stoppages like out of bounds etc.
The 5 minute warning mixes the time up a little, making it count up towards 30 and doesn't have time stoppages so you can't tell how much time is left.
@@TheChemistGaming i have seen quarters go out to 35 minutes before. Saying that the last game i watched at marvel i had no idea how much time was left.
