    Great vid . This helped so much to understand and visually the process. My diff on my 2008 Range Rover sport 4.4l definitely needs bearings at a minimum. Local specialist says just buy a used one and replace it. But I am to differ. I strongly believe rebuild is the way to go - that way one know it's been rebuilt with original diff housing etc.

    Rebuilt mine last year in a very similar manner and all seemed well until I reversed. Made lots of noise and limped it home and found a ton of play on the pinion. Tightened the nut as much as I could with the ugga duggas and there was still some end float in the pinion. Ended up throwing a second hand diff in a few weeks later and I'm just about to open up the original one to see what's going on, the one in the car has started getting noisy and has play in the passenger output flange exactly like my original did.
    I used a shim/spacer on the sleeve when I built it but I'm thinking maybe it was too thick not allowing the bearings to pull together. We shall see.

      I was going to put a locker in the front when I done this build but I'm just to impressed with the traction control to justify the cost of lockers for what I'm doing in mine nowadays its just turned into more of a touring rig then hardcore 4wd

      @@OUTBACKDiscovery Nice man! To be honest , I probbably don't need locker as I'm building a overland rig . However! I have never driven my discovery 3. I bought it with a shot engine and I have gone ham on the thing. Pulled the thing completely apart! have had the frame and the underside of the chassis sand blasted and coated with polyurethane primer and coating. All suspension, shafts ,brakes ( brembo conversion front and v8 upgrade in the back. new rebuilt engine , doing the diffs now with the lockers. Transmission was overhauled from the previous owner 3 years ago and a new transfers case installed. I'm doing the coil conversion and full rigg with winch etc
      ... So safe to say that I'm deep into it now. So I guess what I'm trying to do is the get a sick fully capable disco that is reliable to some degree. I hope to get the car back on the road this year. A lot of parts to get back on the thing😂😂😂 And honest to god😇 your chanal is part of what got me into this mess😂So I hope its worth it. @@OUTBACKDiscovery It was a pain in the ass to get the body of. I have a scissor lift that lift 1 meter. And I have a height constraint in the garage. So it was kind of sketchy. Lifted the thing and supported the chassis in the front with building blocks. 2 supports on the driver side and a elephant engine crane in the back on a m8 rud. So I now had the thing supported on all sides but open on the passenger side. Dropped the frame down on the lift onto wheel dollyies and pulled out the side.I probably lost a god 5 kg in weight on that operation 😂 What is your honest opinion on the coil conversion? Any regrets?

      @@kamrankp85 haha yes! That's my type of bush mechanics 🤣
      Mine is a base model coil sprung from factory I love the coils and the reliability however I have 3 sets sitting in my garage from changing my setup each time so it's a pain in that regard and no one really makes decent struts for them
      I have been trying to organise dobinsons to do an adjustable coil over setup for them but so far not much interest I think I need to get a few people to sign a sheet saying they would buy them if they were made
      As for air suspension I was turned away from it to begin with but now I no more about it , it honestly wouldn't be hard to make it reliable and I think it is superior in terms off adaptability to any situation. As far as offroad coil vs air honestly havnt seen any difference the biggest difference is on road / towing thats where I get jealous

    Could you afford me 1 more question: I know it may not be easy, or cheap, but do you think it would be possible to drop the Diffs 2-3 inches? I'm thinking of doing a 2" spring lift with the SYA 2" spacer (people have already done this) but I am concerned that the cv axles will be at off-road height all the time and will get shredded. If I could drop the diffs, I could get the axle angle closer to stock to reduce the stress on them. Haven't figured out a gearing solution, but looking at options, but in the mean time, my air suspension is in need of major overhaul and may go ahead and convert to springs.

    • @OUTBACKDiscovery
      @OUTBACKDiscovery  Год назад +1

      The diff brackets are pretty substantial it would need someone will all the flash machine to scan and make a new bracket that sat lower I think
      Also the cv runs super close to lower control arm at full droop so I feel like with a diff drop they would make contact with part of the chassis aswell as the front driveshaft to the diff hitting stuff also
      In regards to the spacers I would go a 1inch spacer rather then the 2 inch that everyone sells
      I've been through 3 sets of cvs since doing the spacer
      The sya limiting straps prolonged my last set but there failing again now haha
