    Great work …. I had one of those bloody cars …… now I have a car from 2006 that’s not a Landrover and no signs of needing repair . Because it’s not a Landrover . But I like your great work you’re a terrific bunch of mechanics. It ain’t easy working on those things .

    Upper oil pan comes out without removing the diff. Just remove the bolts and let it drop a bit. I assume you also replace your rear crankshaft seal which means you need a new trigger wheel and the install tool. In our recent build of the 3.0 L you can see that my tool was made wrong. I also showed the dim how far the trigger wheel gets pushed on. Christian

    • @OUTBACKDiscovery

      Hey Christian I ended up pulling the diff as it only took an hour to do so , we didn't do the rear main as dad decided not since it wasn't apart of the top part of the sump, I've bought the tool for the crank sensor ring when doing my engine rebuild is it the same tool for the 3ltr?
      Definitely lucky over here not having to deal with the rust 🤣

    You are seriously making me think I should do this myself, cant justify spending 6k or more to get the shop to do it.

    Hey mate, watched many of you videos and they are really good and helpful. Watching this one on the trans removal you mentioned taking the TC to canning vale - assuming that's WA - what is the gearbox shop? I am looking to get my transfer case rebuilt as the chain is slack. Can't find many places too keen to do it Cheers, Mark

    • @OUTBACKDiscovery
      @OUTBACKDiscovery  Год назад

      Hey Mark give me a few days will need to go through receipts to get the name
      Unsure if they will do transfer cases or not possibly though. Did you have no luck finding one for a manual ?

    • @markslater-q6s
      @markslater-q6s Год назад

      @@OUTBACKDiscovery That would be amazing if you can find the name and I can call them. I have the 4L petrol Auto and I get a thud on acceleration and deceleration and Local shop pointed to the transfer case chain needing to be replaced. I am happy to drop the TC but don't fancy splitting it and rebuilding.

    Nice work Ryan and Dad😊I am literally just reinstalling my engine and gear box and one issue I had was how far the torque converter actually sits back into the bell housing. Having watched videos on this it is a three part process and you can feel each stage as it slides into place but once home, the front flange of the flex plate sits ever so slightly just proud of the bell housing mounting face which was a surprise when you would assume it drops back further. I don't know if you took note of that before you pulled the TC out? You probably know that anyway 👍looking forward to part 2😁👍as an aside is your garage floor tiled? I was going to do that to mine but I was worried about jack stands etc breaking or cracking them.

    • @OUTBACKDiscovery
      @OUTBACKDiscovery  Год назад

      Hey Simon not tiled just an epoxy floor coating ontop on the concrete it's looking a but worse for wear after the last 2 gearbox jobs and this 40 series build now haha

    Hi mate, looking forward to part 2 as my tranny needs the same treatment. Can you do a video about the mechatronics stuff as well? Are you able to detail the cost? Was thinking of throwing in a low kms box from an E60 BMW since they had the same box. Cool that you and LR Time help each other out, too.

    • @OUTBACKDiscovery
      @OUTBACKDiscovery  Год назад +1

      Morning Phil
      Sorry about to long waits in between videos I'm halfway through part 2 now
      The cost was
      $1050 for torque converter
      $250 for mechatronics sleeve aswell as clutch pack seals
      $300 for genuine lifeguard 6 oil * we bought a 20ltr so it worked out to be $30 a litre* otherwise in the 1 litre bottles your looking at $60 a litre
      And we used just under 10 litres

  • @JohnRayKing

    The engine oil sump on that is it easy to remove mine needs a new gasket

    • @OUTBACKDiscovery
      @OUTBACKDiscovery  7 месяцев назад

      @user-dt2up9wo4u correct the actual sump is a 10minute job the 2nd part of the sump the part that bolts to the trans, block and oil pump is definetly alot harder to pull. Unfortunately for us that's what was leaking

    • @OUTBACKDiscovery
      @OUTBACKDiscovery  7 месяцев назад

      @user-dt2up9wo4u the black sump pan you can remove very easily if that's all that's leaking but if it's the main part as described above then it's a right pain if your doing it in the car front diff needs to be removed

      Torque converter is $1100 zf oil is like $400 filter and seal kits like another $200 and labour would set you back around 2-2500
      A trans shop would probably end up being cheaper then me as they have a hoist to do it on so would do it in half the time

    • @OUTBACKDiscovery
      @OUTBACKDiscovery  Год назад +1

      4th landy I've done it on now worked it out with mine the first time after alot of swearing and an hour of struggling haha
      Trick is to turn starter 10 degrees counter clockwise and then get the positive terminal to fit into the recess of the body mount
      That gives you enough clearance to slide it out gear drive first

    • @Shanes_Shed
      @Shanes_Shed Год назад

      @OUTBACK Discovery I've only had to do it twice, the first time I was also fucking about for an hour or so before it somehow lined up and just fell out before I released how I had done it. So the second time I was struggling again.

    • @jamieboydmusic6956

      Yes It is an absolute mongrel. It’s the little corner space 10 degree trick from your earlier videos that helped me. You think it’s not going to come out then you rotate it and bam. Getting it back on can be just as hard!
      Nearly as stressful as the wheel arch heat shields.
