Good video man! I see lots of people freaking out on how to do this when its really simple. This should help them out tons!
Appreciate it! Yea hopefully it can help people get going!
Not that simple if your system keeps crashing and you can't figure out why.
Yes I am one of those people freaking out!! :D
its not that simple stfu
Anyone new coming to The Odin Project- do not watch this video. The guy means well, but if you follow his instructions you will end up worst off than when you started. He flat out skips steps and the instructions he gives will not provide you with the virtual environment the Odin project requires. Just go through the steps the Odin project provides. If you take your time and go step by step TOP instructions work fine.
thanks man, just save me a lot of time xd
thanks bro helped me a ton
Absolutely brilliant video, thank you man. I got a laugh out of the back and forth with normal happy Mike and future tired Mike too. Thanks again for this guide!
Thanks so much! Was lost from the get-go and was able to succesfully install & run with this video
This is a really helpful video! The quality of the content and everything is better than lot of huge youtubers!
Thank you! Appreciate that shout!
Thanks a ton! Coding is fun for me, but all this setup stuff is extremely intimidating
Thank you michael i was strugling a lot with the installation setup , this worked for me. Greetings!
I wish they would offer a setup for wsl already. Most devs that I know don’t use a vm anymore if they don’t have a Mac. They just use wsl. It’s very popular in the real world.
yea no kidding. i wish they were a bit more flexible on this subject....
This was exactly what I needed, thanks!
I set it up successfully, but couldn't tolerate the input lag; had to revert to using Git Bash for Windows (hopefully it'll suffice for TOP).
Yes the input lag is starting to bug me too lol!
Thank you for making this tutorial. It was very helpful.
Thank you, this is very helpful 🥺
Thanks, helped me a lot.
Fantastic video! Great explanation of VM and dual booting. I didn't know the difference between Ubuntu and xubuntu.
Also if you’re screen is displaying half the screen then go to settings, then display, then change the resolution to of your laptop.
Totally recommend just dual booting. You can just upload all of your files/ photos/ videos/ etc. to multiple online drives or externals. Then just wipe everything and reinstall windows on one drive and Ubuntu on your other.
Thanks so much for this video!
Thanks. You made it quite easy for me
If you followed these instructions then you didn’t do it correctly, my friend. His instructions skip steps. Look again
love how past michael was slacking hard😂
Im waiting the pt2 man!
expect it by this weekend!
thanks so much!
savior
I've got windows 11, and VirtualBox wouldn't work for me. Using WSL2 to run Ubuntu, after a tireless night of figuring things out. Works really well, but probably find a better VM to use at some point for windows11
Thank you 🙏
Thank u, English it's no my principal language and it was very hard for me to understand the installation thing
You're welcome!
When I’m in the virtual box and I’m choosing the “IDE Secondary master: [optical Drive Empty]” it takes me into my file location.
It doesn’t say “Choose Creat Disk Image” only “Choose disk image” then takes me to my folders
same
what should i do if i cant chose how much processor i want to chose
Keep going and see what happens, thats what I would do.
@@MichaelWhiteDev na i kept goin nun happened that's cos the rams only 4 gb I think the minimum requirements were 8 at least that's what micro verse said but thank you very much ur very knowledgeable I enjoyed ur vid n future mike was a fun concept hope to see more in the future have a wonderful day adios amigo
Is anyone else having their VM loading on a really small screen? When I make it larger it keeps the same resolution (stays tiny) and the Auto-resize Guest Display option is grayed out for me. Lmk if youve experienced this/found a solution!
i dont have any of the options after 6.34 . My screen looks completely different options ise from there. Idk what to do.. Maybe I installed an older/newer ver idk
Anyone else having problems using dual monitors? I have everything set up correctly, but I cant enable my second screen.
i have 4gb RAM. how much should i allocate to the virtualbox? i am really confused. please help me out
1? Nothing on the odin project is very demanding
Bro can I do all these steps on a low end HP g60 23ous with dual cores and 3gb ram. I really want to learn code.
You sure can, xubuntu is really lightweight. If it doesn't work for you there are other options!
I would hate for this to be the thing to keep you from getting started.
@@MichaelWhiteDev yeah bro I did most of the steps but when I click the start button of the virtualbox the screen loads up for 1 second and then it shows a eror
Now I have to use freecodecamp because of my low end system
But I know things will get better
Just duel boot linex
I have a week stuck in this setup with ubuntu 22.04
thanks goat
it can't complete the installation due to not enough disk space. do i have to buy a usb flash drive?
Thanks for the video. After I downloaded the Xubuntu iso I opened the file and went to the install file. What can I use to extract that file to set it up on my computer. I tried Adobe but it says file not supported. Thanks for your help in advance. ☮️ and thanks for your service.
is there a reason you skipped the direcctions " to tick the Guest Additions and Install in Background options and also change your Username and Password fields" from the odin project website?
Nice video. Can I use pop os instead of Ubuntu? My laptop is old and I have Pop os installed in which I run some data projects.
I dont see why not
Nice vid! Just need a quick question though, I basically use a laptop with an external monitor. I set my VM at 2 monitors. If I use my laptop outside of my home and without an external monitor, should I bring the slider back to 1 monitor? Thanks!
I prefer windows subsystem for linux
Won't work on my chromebook.
sad, went to virtualbox page turns out i can't download since i'm from venezuela.
Could always try dual booting linux
just download it from another source bro......
@@slowedmood7440 Didn't do either, just did WSL2 in windows, it works just fine.
what should i do if xubuntu isnt popping up in the optical disk selector :/
You downloaded the correct iso?
I'm having this same problem
Can this be done with 1 processor?
can I do this with kali linux?
Not sure tbh
Hi
Why is this necessary for TOP? A response would be very helpful.
Top recommends you use it for working out of a terminal as the windows terminal can be tricky when your just getting started
Man ur voice is cool, just remove that disturbing background music, its very disturbing and loud
Thanks for the feedback, I was wondering if the background music was too much. Thank you for confirming! Definitely going to tone it down a notch.
@@MichaelWhiteDev i enjoyed the music tho i was jamming
@@MichaelWhiteDev Yeah, I'd say keep the music.
Stop giving music when you are teaching
