As another 30 + year old Marine Corps veteran, I'm happy to see you transition into tech and watch your journey Michael. I began my journey the very last week of December 2021 and just landed my first role as a software engineer! It is NEVER too late and you are NEVER too old. It's all mindset. Semper Fi!
Self taught. GED. 35 years old and I jumped in and got myself a job in 6 months. 7 months in and Im moving on to my second job that pays significantly more.
I turned 40 in april. Self taught writer, director and video editor. Good career, but am transitioning to web development. I started round about the same time as you Michael. But kids, family and cost of living made me loose focus. Finally finishing Odin Project about to do Rock Paper Scissors Revisited.
Good on your, Hilrick. I am 30yo with a baby girl due in November. I feel the heat under my feet but I am driven and committed. I am 70% through a Bachelors Degree in Software Development and can tell you with hand on my heart that TOP has taught me a lot more than the degree ever did. So if you ever doubt yourself for not having any qualifications, remember this comment. We can do this!
40+ year old Marine Corps Veteran here. found your page today! I've tinkered with coding on and off since 1999. All serious now. currently working through Freecodecamp learning HTML and CSS and eventually I will turn the corner into the Odin project. trying to update my github daily with blogging starting this weekend. Would love to be somewhere as a Junior Developer in the next 9-12 months. Putting in the work daily. Thanks for the inspiration brother, looking forward to more of your content! Semper Fidelis.
I just turned 33 and started my Odin project journey the day after that. It's tough, but it's completely doable. I believe it's just a matter of showing up, repetition, immersion, time, and knowing when to stand up and walk over to the pull up bar and knock out a few reps, and grab some water instead of beating your head against the wall. Everything else is just "syntactic sugar".
Your thoughts are really important, 90% of our lives is thoughts, you think you can and you will take massive action to do it. Just like you can do pull ups, push ups, picking up a pen.. it’s very simple you have a goal and you just start with boldness, start with the end in mind
Felt this! Had my kid at 20, got married the same year. Still married, kid is in HS, but it’s never too late to grab a new slab with a more focused chisel.
Man you have no idea.. that is exactly the advice i need to hear. I’m turning 30 in October and am cook since i was a teener. In 15 years i gained valuable gastronomy experience. And now i’m here, quit my job ready for change. Tired of physical and mental exhaustion looking for a new place to start, and i’m thinking of coding actually. Thank you for uploading this! You’re much appreciated. Just, where to start?
31y old next week here. I've decided to take a U turn on my career as I've always been passionate about computers but I've never had a job involving computer. I've been away from the digital way too long and I feel thats my way so I started TheOdinProject days ago. Actually thats how I landed on your channel, because of the virtual machine setup video which is very helpful by the way, thanks for that. Hopefully the things will work out for me in some years in the future because me, same as you, I've never written a code before. Looks like its not for everybody but if you want to learn you will. I will need to find some space in my schedule for learning that would be maybe the most difficult part because I'm employed full time and I have a little daughter who needs some attention after work so. And yeah, the inflation is hard, especially when you work in the poorest country in EU.
Thank you for the great video. I am actually 31 and just took my first intro to CS course at a community college. Looking to change my statue. I have given myself a year to build a portfolio so I can start applying for jobs
I'm 18 years old and I am on my current path to becoming a front end developer. I spent my entire senior year learning how to code and haven't stopped since. I would really like to document my progress up to when I eventually get a my first jr. web dev position just like you did mike. I start College in August but even with all the classes ill have and part time job ill most likely acquire I don't plan on slowing down my progress. I'm gonna keep posting content and put myself out their. I've watched so many of your videos and it makes me so motivated to accomplish my set goals. Thanks Mike!!
im 36 and I'm starting to learn how to code, and I'm starting to collect comic books so far everything is expensive and hard lol but I'm working through it and having fun can't tell you if I'm successful yet because I've just started.
I’m 29 and learning how to code. My goal is to get a job as a developer before 30. It’s been add studying and taking care of my baby but I know I have all it takes to do it
I see alot about the Odin project and free code camp. How comparable are they, I've started the free code camp program and it's not bad just wanted to see others opinions on them. As a 35 year old construction worker trying to make this transition and still support a family my learning time is somewhat limited so trying to get the most bang for my "buck" I guess. Love the videos!
Free code camp is more "on the rails" and The Odin Project is project based. I personally think you'll retain more information via the odin project. BUT free code camp is more accessible when you're just getting started.
Soooooo I got a year and a half left for my bachelor's in IT. I've been wanting to just stop n learn to code. But I might as well just finish up my degree right? Any opinions????
I’ve asked that same question to many developers and they all recommend that you learn the front end first as they said companies usually never hire back end developers with zero experience. Once you get the front end handled, then you can start learning back end development on your way to full stack. I hope this helps!
Here I am at 27 years ready to switch careers... Wish my luck lol. It's one of the things that bothers me - so many people like me who feel this inflation is hitting hard and are jumping to higher paying career in software development... Won't it be peopleflation in the industry? Hope not
I am currently 31 and also former military USAF. I hope you find this comment. As of now, I am trying to learn being a self developer after my failed attempt on getting into Rad Tech. Interview there is once a year and is pretty competitive due to limited program throughout the whole state and hospitals willing to teach students. I know i'm getting to that age where I am not able to just sit around and wait, not doing something in my life. Currently work in an office and work from home, but salary cannot compete with the inflation. Now, my only choice is either switch my degree to CS with another 4 or so years to finish due to being a part time student, or jump straight into we development and learn as much as i can until i make myself marketable. any advice would be appreciated!

Congrats on landing your first role! Us devil dogs are holding it down over here in tech.

I'm 35 myself and am making the transition myself from construction to coding.

I'm 50 and I am looking to shift myself. I'm a teacher and musician so it's encouraging to know you got into ✌🏾
I learned how to code in 1998 and now I'm still learning how to code after a 10 year hiatus.
39 years old. Just retired from the Army yesterday, and started my first FE job today. Definitely doable

I'm nearly 33 and started learning web dev in 2020, and I've been a FE dev for 1 year now. You can do it! Keep at it!
I just started to around 2 months ago. Still in javascript. Lots of reading and that's the hard part trying to read and then do the exercises

I got my new slab. Like this channel sir. Very helpful in my journey. These few videos I’ve watched so far gave me to boost I needed at this stage.
Glad I could help

You got this man, rooting for you!
It really is the case that a lot of things are physically possible, but mentally they're seemingly impossible.
When are we going to get a setup/room tour? 👀

@@MichaelWhiteDev I think I will bounce between the two eventually. Or just go into TOP once I get a little more knowledge and feel more comfortable.
You sound like Barak Obama when you talk. ;)
Love the motivation! Keep it up!
Thanks, inspiring video as usual.
Never too old
I’m 28 and i’m going this route too!
Just my associates degree at 34 in programming. I still have a long way to go

Start front end! At least to the point where you understand how it works with the backend.
