Oil Catch can - amzn.to/3DT61WO
It is my understanding that Honda has engineered their current direct injection engines including Gen 2 Ridgelines to wash the valves with fuel to keep carbon deposits from building up on the valves so if that is so why do you feel the need to install a catch can on your Honda Ridgeline? I know some early direct injection engines had a problem with carbon build up on the valves but since then several strategies have been employed to solve the problem including a combination of direct and port injection as well as direct injection that also cleans the valves.
I had injector failure at 54000 miles. My intakes were a little carboned up. With a Honda "Dream Engine" , the Tech said it goes into an Atkinson cycle to clean the intake valves. Though not very well I think. The oil catch can would be helpful to reduce carbon deposits long term.
Was the injector covered under the powertrain warranty?
Many injector "failure" on the v6 are supposedly caused by manufacturing defect.
@@squidusn71 They've extended the injector warranty on certain years of Pilot/PP/RL, 10 yrs, 150k miles.
@@silverwolfe8788 they should extend the warranty on the 6 speed transmission as well because it's junk.
Yet another great video! I'm curious what the composition of the fluid in oil catch can is cause if its 100% oil it looks like a lot
What does the fluid smell like - purely oil, or like gas, too? I wonder if the amount will change in winter weather.
You need a stronger magnet. At local feed stores you can get a cattle magnet, they are very strong, & iirc they come in smaller & larger. The smaller is like a thinner Vienna Sausage. (they have the cattle swallow it, attracts nails, wire, etc, instead of the metal embedding in their stomachs/intestines...)
Smells primarily of oil.
Yeah, didn’t have any other magnets. Wish I had a neodymium magnet.
@@YuriyMotso Thanks for your response.
Until you find a neodymium magnets, maybe try a cattle magnet, lol.
I see your posts on fb, my '19 touring Pilot will be getting a catch-can soon. ;)
Send the “oil” in and have it analyzed.
Sure send a check or money order as well.
I keep up on your videos they’re so informative. Question what do you think about the engines on the pilots having the vcm engine that shut off cylinders when cruising on the highway? Maybe do a video on it if it’s a good idea to add a vcm defuser like the S-VCM
It’s one of the videos on my radar to make. I unfortunately have been running into time issues with the weather changing and days getting shorter. So I’m at the mercy of the weather to make videos. My garage is full of stuff so can’t pull in and shot a video. Lol. But it’s one of the things I would like to test.
@@YuriyMotso I just purchased a ridgeline and would love to see this test.
I have a new ‘21 and I’m considering adding a catch can. Thanks
Me too
Looks really dark.
Were do I get this
I have a link in my description for the part and an installation video on my channel. 👍🏻
i think i need a better catchcan lol. been having for 2years now and check oil change 5k or so i dont even get that much
Every engine will be slightly different to the next. It’s like a fingerprint. Similar but completely different. So your engine may be better than others, tighter tolerances, better seal, oil, heat, stress, etc.
Is there a chance you can do a video on replacing all 4 of the o2 sensors?
What is this for......😮
Yuriy, thanks for the update.
Thanks for the update.
Now that my warranty is almost up I think I may do this. Though dealer may use this as a reason to void the extended warranty on fuel injectors on my 2017. Great video.
Doubt it. The magnuson-Moss warranty act protects owners from being denied warranty in the event something happens where a modification on a vehicle is found during a problem. The manufacturer will have to prove that the item caused the failure and not just say it did.
Great video I want to add this to my 2017 ridgeline. I was reading that they may be illegal and will fail your emissions test. Have you had any issues?
Good point I also heard it's warranty voiding. On one hand it looks like it serves a purpose but on the other hand you wonder why if they help then the manufacturer should put one in.
I guess I'll be removing it before taking it in for inspection. But definitely adding one to my Ridgeline.
@@glockwhore being a gdi engine, the catch can serves more purpose than the idle stop/start, imo.
I installed this exact one on my 2017 and it was super easy to do. They're right about the warranty. Mine is out of warranty so there you go. I've had no issues, no lights coming on or anything. Next emissions test we'll see what happens. If it fails I'll just pull around the corner, disconnect it and try again. It's not like they even open the hood for those tests anyways. All you need is a screwdriver to disconnect the hose and re-route it to the manifold.
How much damage would 20mL every 5000 miles cause?
Don't think about it in 5K miles terms. Remember that carbon will continue to build up on top of the valves and eventually they won't sit right when closing.
