straight cut gears in stock cars needs to not be a thing, i’d understand with a gearbox upgrade like they used to do in forza motorsport 4 but not stock. also half the time it sounds like they’re literally playing a recording from inside/outside of the car no depth to it at all. this isn’t for all of the cars however, majority sound amazing.
There are some cars that have straight cut gears tho, like the sesto. And some cars are hybrids which make a comparable high pitched noise that some people mistake for straight cut gears

Complaints over I would like to add I’m really impressed with the improvements they’ve made to so many cars, it’s easy to pick faults and forget the amount of work put into these new sounds. These are minor things I hope they can change.
In FH1 your character's hand have animation when you use the handbrake, in FH4 there's no such thing. Idk why they always have to downgrade some small cool detail

Just so that people know: at the moment the sounds of the Nissan 350Z and the BMW M3 E46 are currently swapped/mixed up. The 350Z uses the engine sounds from the M3, the M3 uses the sounds from the 350Z. This is from the preview game version, so I expect the devs to know about this issue. It's not really gamebreaking, but it's still an important thing in Horizon 5. A lot of us are exited about the improved engine sounds, it would be a shame if they were mixed up. Also, I like that we can hear the engine more loudly in the cockpit view. In Horizon 4, they felt a little bit too quiet.

Same here, i prefer the tone of the 918 in fh4, but like how much louder fh5 is and is pronounced and beefy/raw, but the whine is not accurate as it doesn't whine ofcourse, but also the tone of the 918 isn't there, i am specifically talking aboit the Porsche tone you hear in almost every Porsche, it's a signature sound i hear often when listening to their engines and i can't hear it in fh5 like in fh4.
Gear whine. I agree that it should be toned down but it definitely has nothing to do with the engine itself. It should ideally only appear when installing racing gearboxes...

The whine is associated with the cog shapes being straight cut instead of slanted. A straight cut gear is more efficient but noisier, hence why it's only used on race transmissions irl. Needed since the implementation of custom liveries in motorsport, but still missing in both motorsport and horizon, the option for custom opponents!! Why can’t we race the car/livery combos we want? *select opponent from garage* button on custom races. FH3 Convoys still haven’t returned despite them being brilliant & still no TDU/PGR/TheCrew style garages or showrooms.
Now now let’s not get too hasty here. I know these are very great ideas, and I would love to have them in this game, but I’m glad they focused on the biggest flaws which were the terrible car sounds and the bland map. This surely took ALOT of time, since forza has so many cars. Maybe in the future they will add such things because they said for certain features it won’t be there at launch, but they are willing to update this. For example, being able to start races anywhere on the map when creating a race, instead of being limited to certain spots.
I think the people with a brain can understand that this game is pretty much FH4 with a new map, I am glad they have changed the car sounds but honestly that’s about it

Personally FH5 for me will feel like a while different game now with all the new minigames, multiple horizon sites, accolades where you can track all your achievements, car collection “sticker book” thing with rewards. I don’t know, but personally, I will have lots to do in this game since they showed the sheer amount of accolades, and that alone will keep me busy for a while. And I can’t wait to upgrade the different festival sites. But hey, that’s just me. I don’t bore too easily, and even if I did, I see alot of potential, but then again, that’s my opinion, you’re entitled to yours :)
Heh. Could be the transmission, intake noise, or (in the case of hybrid cars) any electric PU / flywheel system. From what I've heard so far they could probably still tone those sounds down a fair bit. Should be a relatively easy fix, tho.

In my native language I'd refer it to as a flywheel system, but I understand how English could have different rules regarding this. It's also a useful way to distinguish the flywheel in the FES from the crankshaft flywheel (which would be a source of concern if it produced a noticeable noise in an automotive engine, lol).

Nah they ruined all the american v8s if you go to the other video with the mustang gt, c8 corvette, and the hellcat, they sound nothing like they do in real life. The mustang especially it sounds so dull not at all like what a 5.0 sounds like

They need to haven’t you hearing that lovely whistle from the exhaust too, it’s how you can’t hear the turbos from the back, like at all. Also need slower spooling for when you just wanna go 25-70% throttle
I hope we’ll be able to tweak different noise levels a bit better in the settings , decrease whine, decrease excess white noise, etc.. overall it sounds better but some will get annoying with the trans whine.
Me too. Honestly, I'd be fine with them releasing the game a week early with bugs and glitches still present. I'm willing to play the game while it still gets updates/patches/bugfixes. I'm used to play open beta games on Steam, a couple of bugs wouldn't scare me away.

If they cut cars, for better sound I'm all im for it honestly. I know a lot of people complained about the lack of new car models, but look at the work they've done on the existing cars. Sounds so much more realistic now

Venom GT and 918 got a bit butchered lol. I hope it's a similar case as the E46/Z33 getting their samples mixed up and it gets addressed at launch. P1 should be much angrier with some unequal-header burble (McLaren engineers tried their best to make it sound angry and visceral like a crossplane V8 despite being a flatplane - similar story to the Shelby GT350R years later!). Hoonicorn's sample is amazing but needs a few more revs. Some road cars are a bit too shouty with what I believe is the stock exhaust (240Z, Audi Quattro to name a couple) but the sample quality improved drastically. Last but not least, most of the JDM bois are now proper, although the EK9 and AE86 are a bit weird (maybe they mixed up the stock vs tuned sounds?). Definitely a big step up, but nitpicking is fun isn't it, this is the internet after all xP
The sound for the 911 GT3 is incredible. Every new video i see of Horizon 5 just gets me more and more hyped up. It seems they really outdid themselves this time around

Agreed, it's missing the tone, fh4 has it slightly there, it needs to be amped up more, make it more natural and louder and raw like the v8 it is, have the tone be more pronounced like a actual signature Porsche sound, than and only than will it sound like q 918, right now it just sounds like a race car with the gear whine and loud engine sound.
I like the fm7 syle interior sound. the only thing they need to add is more screen shake like fh2 so it actually feels like your going fast so as the third person camera

The McLaren P1 still sounds nothing like a McLaren, the 918 just got worse in every single aspect, the 458 sounds like a mosquito, the civic sounds like a dying pig with lung problems and the backfires are still lame af. every thing is better but there is one thing left that did not change on fh5 is the turbos sfx , for example the single turbo on supra is sooo quiet,annoying and unrealstic we need it louder and more agressive like nfs heat(unit) with some stustustustu vibes lol :D

its awesome how they could even improve Subaru boxer sound :D and also thats V8s. But for the other side, turbo noises are quite annoying, at least for me its just boosted up for no reason (if we are talking about stock cars).
They need to bring back idling sounds big time. Like the old FH games. And some cars need serious work. The sound is better than FH4 but they still lack depth, especially with American muscle cars. Also the sound on the Lambo countach and Diablo are pitifully bad.

Tone down the transmission whine (and the hybrid whine in the case of the i8), fix the 918 sound and swap around some of the sound files then you got it. The i8 on the whole though, that is much improved over FH4. In 4 it just sounded like a lower pitched Ford GT V6
Unpopular opinion but FH4 sounds sound less stressful and smoother to my ears. FH5's are a bit too high and will probably cause me headache after a short time.

Overall, FH5 sounds are better, but there is a whine or a sizzle that bothers me a lot. It is just as loud as the actual main engine note.

@@josephmachado6081 I know that but I hope there’s a save option where it saves your map preferences when you reach a certain point in the game so like when we first start we can keep everything on the map and then once we stop racing or got what we want we can disable everything on the map then it stays that way instead of having to do it every time we start it, it would just be easier lol

Venom GT and 918 got a bit butchered lol. I hope it's a similar case as the E46/Z33 getting their samples mixed up and it gets addressed at launch.
P1 should be much angrier with some unequal-header burble (McLaren engineers tried their best to make it sound angry and visceral like a crossplane V8 despite being a flatplane - similar story to the Shelby GT350R years later!).
Hoonicorn's sample is amazing but needs a few more revs.
Some road cars are a bit too shouty with what I believe is the stock exhaust (240Z, Audi Quattro to name a couple) but the sample quality improved drastically.
Last but not least, most of the JDM bois are now proper, although the EK9 and AE86 are a bit weird (maybe they mixed up the stock vs tuned sounds?).
Definitely a big step up, but nitpicking is fun isn't it, this is the internet after all xP

The sound for the 911 GT3 is incredible. Every new video i see of Horizon 5 just gets me more and more hyped up. It seems they really outdid themselves this time around

Agreed, it's missing the tone, fh4 has it slightly there, it needs to be amped up more, make it more natural and louder and raw like the v8 it is, have the tone be more pronounced like a actual signature Porsche sound, than and only than will it sound like q 918, right now it just sounds like a race car with the gear whine and loud engine sound.

I like the fm7 syle interior sound. the only thing they need to add is more screen shake like fh2 so it actually feels like your going fast so as the third person camera

sounds amazing even with the shitty manual + clutch shifts of the early access players. and nothing makes me happier than some sweet sweet straight cuts. I love that the race transmission is what gives it that sound, makes it so you don't absolutely need that sound. playground nailed this one, hats off to you guys

every thing is better but there is one thing left that did not change on fh5 is the turbos sfx , for example the single turbo on supra is sooo quiet,annoying and unrealstic we need it louder and more agressive like nfs heat(unit) with some stustustustu vibes lol :D

I was so scared to hear the 918 for the first time in FH5 and what can I say, I'm not impressed, it sounds better but not more realistic, I don't think I like it.
Keep in mind that was upgraded. The sound changes with upgrades

its awesome how they could even improve Subaru boxer sound :D and also thats V8s. But for the other side, turbo noises are quite annoying, at least for me its just boosted up for no reason (if we are talking about stock cars).
They need to bring back idling sounds big time. Like the old FH games. And some cars need serious work. The sound is better than FH4 but they still lack depth, especially with American muscle cars. Also the sound on the Lambo countach and Diablo are pitifully bad.

They got to ease the whining noise in those hybrid cars and this game is golden
Tone down the transmission whine (and the hybrid whine in the case of the i8), fix the 918 sound and swap around some of the sound files then you got it. The i8 on the whole though, that is much improved over FH4. In 4 it just sounded like a lower pitched Ford GT V6
Unpopular opinion but FH4 sounds sound less stressful and smoother to my ears. FH5's are a bit too high and will probably cause me headache after a short time.
Hmm on fh5 some car sounds sounds like a bag full of nuts or to metalish or sounds to windy but overall much better than fh4
