Kanye may do and say controversial things, but in the end, it's all part of his marketing. He is just a very avant-garde and provocative person and that shows in everything he does. Great video!
as a fan of Yeezy I can tell you are bang on with the explanations and the ratings of the final ideas. 9/10 was correct too refined but colour palette wise and design it was spot on. a lot of the ideas aren't fully fleshed out on Yeezy at least it looks that way to the average consumer but it probably 100x as many times to make it look that way versus the "clean and polished look" of what we know graphic design to be today. there are few other brands that execute it to this level. Rick Owens being similar, but less graphic design esque at its core.
He's no graphic design genius but a reputation master for sure. If he didn't have the reputation from his prior music career, none of this would've hit. Imagine if lil Banko did the same. Who is lil Banko? Exactly.
i mean he was literally in art school and made paintings with educated skill so you can’t really discredit anything, def not the genius. I think his brand is very consistent and they look very “Yeezy” aka unique for what they are and that fits with his current music and everything just like most of his previous albums and art reflected everything from his imagery and art, for example his college dropout cover with the baroque floral and brown yellow design and the music within, he has a great eye of looking at things in a third person perspective, that awareness is one essential thing,. Marketing and image is obviously the main driving point for product exposure so he got that going for him

Question-The splash on the shoe, would you say it’s not inline because the splash is loud and lively feeling? Would a melting effect have been more in line with the brand do you think more dystopia or still too loud?
To me, it's too organic and fluid. Kanye often creates things that are edgy both in terms of shape psychology and in concept. A melting effect would perhaps be more ideal yeah 👍
Agreed. As a teen I had a couple of tanks tops that had that crested logo on them. I’ve seen other designers pull from areas that are not fashion, but to xerox a logo with next to no modifications, really makes me question his design chops. Sitting next to a designer, makes you design adjacent. Not. A. Designer. Just my personal opinion.
Some things you missed to clarify or even mention: 1) Art is NOT Graphic Design. Graphic Design is a comunication tool while art is simply free for interpretation. And Kanye is simply an artist who likes to jump over the edge sometimes. 2) The vultures Logo has nothing to do with nazis. It's simply adapted from the official "The coat of arms germany". Kanye holds special sympathy towards germany as we've seen. 3) Virgil Abloh was not only a close friend, but also a huge inspiration and personal creative director for kanyes merch. Thats where most of the "handwritten" stuff comes from.

The vultures logo is a take on the current German coat of arms but brings the two heads from the Roman Empire coat of arms that the German version was built upon. Still original and sort of a full circle.
